@  wonko the sane? : (04 August 2020 - 11:37 AM)

It's almost like all drama is just manufactured pissing contests to keep us all entertained and distracted. :p

@  Tm_Silverclaw : (04 August 2020 - 10:16 AM)

Or they could go White Ranger vs Scorpion route and have both win. ;P

@  ▲ndrusi : (04 August 2020 - 09:35 AM)

Besides, we all know the answer is nearly always "they fight to a standstill and then team up against a common enemy."

@  ▲ndrusi : (04 August 2020 - 09:29 AM)

The best way to prove this is to give an example where the match is really lopsided in favor of one character but in popularity they're either evenly matched or the weaker one is more popular.

@  ▲ndrusi : (04 August 2020 - 09:27 AM)

The "who would win in a fight" discussions are really just people trying to make "which one's better" into something you can theoretically measure objectively, usually in a very specific way they think they've predetermined their favorite will win.

@  Otaku : (04 August 2020 - 02:01 AM)

@Nevermore So... you're saying you didn't like DC Versus Marvel/Marvel Versus DC?

@  Steevy Maximus : (03 August 2020 - 06:59 PM)

So, what happened to Hasbro's Zoids relaunch? An English dub, some stuff in southeast Asia, and now a game coming in October? That it?

@  wonko the sane? : (03 August 2020 - 10:46 AM)

Tidal wave, cause shooting water gets you nowhere.

@  Darth Gonzo : (03 August 2020 - 09:57 AM)

Who would win Tidal Wave or Broadside?

@  -LittleAutob... : (03 August 2020 - 08:17 AM)

Btw Happy birthday to those people in the box to the right \o/

@  -LittleAutob... : (03 August 2020 - 08:16 AM)

The bottom line is obvious. It makes no literal sense to fight someone on your faction. :/

@  wonko the sane? : (03 August 2020 - 06:14 AM)

That's because you're doing it wrong. You're supposed to just stack skills and ability against each other. It's not the palace of doom, it's an episode of american gladiators.

@  Nevermore : (03 August 2020 - 04:32 AM)

The only obvious winners of such a fight would be the bad guys.

@  Nevermore : (03 August 2020 - 04:29 AM)

And what does it even matter? They should work together, not stupidly fight each other for the mindless entertainment of idiot onlookers.

@  Nevermore : (03 August 2020 - 04:29 AM)

Why would two good guys fight each other? What are they fighting over?

@  Nevermore : (03 August 2020 - 04:28 AM)

I never understood these "who would win in a fight between two good guys" discussions. They make no sense to me.

@  Maximus Ambus : (02 August 2020 - 04:17 PM)

If G1 had continued we'd have had Starscream back in spirit - through Krunk, Snapdragons partner and possibly Skullcruncher unless he was mute.

@  Bass X0 : (02 August 2020 - 12:28 PM)

There are some decent impersonators in fandubs though.

@  -LittleAutob... : (02 August 2020 - 10:45 AM)

The only true Starscream voices are Steve Blum and Chris Latta, hands down.

@  Sabrblade : (02 August 2020 - 10:14 AM)

Why they didn't have Scott McNeil voicing that Starscream, when he was the one who had imitated Chris Latta when he voiced Cobra Commander in the DiC G.I. Joe cartoon, is beyond me.

@  wonko the sane? : (02 August 2020 - 09:57 AM)

Say what you will, that was an awesome scene.

@  -LittleAutob... : (01 August 2020 - 08:36 PM)

Hearing Starscream's screechy voice in Cyberverse has to be the most annoying thing ever in Transformers. Even his G1 voice wasn't as bad. :doh

Still better than what came after.  I literally couldn't watch Dark Of the Moon all the way through in one sitting.

For Bella Rose Fraizer-Grant Sept 8, 2011 to Nov 26th 2011... Pop-pop will always love you!!!!

BTW your Dead Wrong about the younger generation not knowing about Freddy.  The man himself is amazed at how many "Third Generation" fans he has.

When I was a teacher, 10 years ago, high school kids were very aware of Leatherface, and to some lesser extent Jason and Freddy. FvJ had only come out a few years prior but I must conclude they "knew" TCM from those unspeakable bastardized relaunches. And seemingly liked them.

You mean Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D aka three-dicks and Leatherface 2017? the remake was decent and The Beginning i thought was crappy! the last TCM movie worth a damn was Leatherface: Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3 and the first 2 i love and liked the third film, the fourth film was utter shit and turned the character into a joke just like TCM 3D and Leatherface 2017 are turning the character into a joke.

@Egon1982

You made me do this. :p
Robert Englund brought Freddy to life onscreen, no denying, but hes only as good as the script hes given.

Case in point.

https://m.youtube.co...h?v=-rrc3gyLieg

https://m.youtube.co...h?v=TN7BmVcVMgI

And if you want to talk about dodging a bullet, read this rejected script for Freddy vs Jason. No one on this planet could make that thing work onscreen. Not Robert Englund. Not nobody.

And while I didnt like the 2010 remake, it did have some inspired moments.

https://m.youtube.co...h?v=LbZrQT0k4BM

Jackie was decent as Freddy. You can rip on the movie as a whole or his makeup or whatever. But his performance was good.

And besides that, Robert Englund himself has suggested that for a potential reboot, that Freddy appear different to each of his victims & be played by a different actor for each nightmare sequence. The man himself is okay with others taking up the mantle & bringing their own unique takes on the character.

Indeed. I'm one of the biggest Freddy Krueger/Robert Englund marks around, and I can tell you that the big problem with NOES 2010 was NOT, Jackie Earl Haley, but rather the film and actors that surrounded him.

But that doesn't matter when I'm dealing with someone who dismisses the Ghostbusters remake in a sexist fashion.

I don't think the new Ghostbusters is a case of recasting because Jillian Holtzmann, while filling the same role in the team as Egon Spengler did in the original, is a new character. Kate McKinnon might have played an absolutely brilliant version of female Egon Spengler, but I'm glad she didn't, because then we'd have been deprived Holtzmann who is awesome.

Ghostbusters is an interesting example, because The Real Ghostbusters is a recast and that was popular and long-running. I guess the format change to cartoon mitigated the problem though. Live action shows like Ferris Bueller and the Bill and Ted series doesn't seem to have done all that well, though I'm not sure if that was due to the audience not accepting the recasting or not.

Ghostbusters is weird for me because I loved inventing all new characters but they went and made it not the same universe and I was all wtf about it. Like different people fighting ghosts couldn't exist on the same earth a mere 30 years later.

Hm, so these cinematic icons you can't recast can't be derived from books or other sources, even though I'm sure most of the Bond films' audience never read the novels.

Hmmmmmm...

You know, I seem to recall an iconic 1930s gangster film being remade in the 1980s with a different actor... And that remake and the actor became even more iconic....

Going back to Ghostbusters: ATC I hold firm that the script wasn't that strong and the cast wasn't the problem.  Those women are hella funny when given good material.

Yeah, aside from McCarthy, whose acting I have never cared for, I did not mind the characters.  Now I did find it funny that the analog for the sassy and humorous Janine was the stereotypical bimbo-ish Thor.  Who ended up stealing the show whenever he showed up.  Seriously, the three Chris's from the MCU are pretty good in anything I have seen them in.

As for recast:  Star Trek.

William Shatner IS Captain James T. Kirk.

Chris Pine IS Captain James T. Kirk.  I see movies he is in and think "Hey, it is Kirk playing Jack Ryan."  "Kirk is hitting on Wonder Woman!".  Then there is This Is War, which is Alternate Kirk vs Clone Picard!

Star Trek had a pretty good recast of characters, as well as not completely forgetting what has come before (I love the time travel "reboot").

And I love Zachary Quinto's Spock as well as Karl Urbans McCoy, Really the only ones who kinda weird me out is Simon Pegg as Scotty and Anton Yelchin as Chekov. And even then I feel they did fine in their roles. If anyone felt off It was Cumberbatch as Kahn and and Alice Eve's version of Carol Marcus but in Eve's favor we never saw Carol in her younger years.

Yeah, this is nonsense. You can absolutely recast a prominent cinematic character even if (gasp) they didn't originate in a book or other non-film medium.

Sometimes those recasts will float and sometimes they'll sink, and often they'll land in some subjective place in between, but to claim it's impossible to succeed is ridiculous.
