Feels like it's been so long since there's been a proper storm that I've been awake for. This one even has pink lightning, which always great.

Sadly, my first reaction was "And I'm sure way too many people would seriously, unironically really vote for the blatant bad guy and still cheer at him while he's slaughtering the masses because they saw him on TV and he's cool."

Oh yeah, feeling feverish. What fun.

@  wonko the sane? : (16 November 2018 - 10:07 PM)

My father used to ask his boss that question. Then he STOPPED asking, and got used to twiddling his thumbs. Made things so much easier, and didn't actually change how his bosses thought of him.

@  Nevermore : (16 November 2018 - 07:31 PM)

So of course you wait until the end of your shift like everyone else, THEN you walk up to the manager on duty and ask him what you're supposed to do during the requested overtime.

@  Nevermore : (16 November 2018 - 07:30 PM)

Fun: The employer allows (paid) voluntary overtime, cannot backtrack on the permit, and before the regular end of your shift, you notice you're rapidly running out of work.

I say yes, but I imagine many would disagree with me.

@  Paladin : (16 November 2018 - 12:34 PM)

settle a bet: is "drama queen" a gender-neutral description?

@  TM2-Megatron : (15 November 2018 - 08:38 PM)

Sounds like management is the same everywhere :p

@  TheMightyMol... : (15 November 2018 - 08:12 PM)

My bosses are too busy trying to see if they can have their heads up their own asses while still being able to kiss the asses of everyone above them. It'd be amusing to watch if I wasn't one of the ones trying to get everything done to cover for it.

@  Nevermore : (15 November 2018 - 07:05 PM)

He's living by the standard "bow to those below you; kick at those above you. You got more people below you than above you."

@  Nevermore : (15 November 2018 - 07:04 PM)

Whenever we go on strike, he's there with us. He told me that this is the only completely legal way for him to show his own bosses the finger,

@  Nevermore : (15 November 2018 - 07:03 PM)

Well, this guy has been getting flak from above, it's just that he doesn't care. He's doing what he thinks is right. He's easily the smartest of my superiors, and also the one with the biggest balls.

@  TheMightyMol... : (15 November 2018 - 05:24 PM)

Must be nice, having a boss that cares.

@  SHIELD Agent 47 : (15 November 2018 - 01:03 PM)

Indeed.

@  Echowarrior : (15 November 2018 - 11:58 AM)

That's a good superior.

@  Nevermore : (15 November 2018 - 06:21 AM)

Arguing in my favor that I was working under sub-par conditions, there were problems with sudden halts of the conveyor and other issues that affected my productivity, and besides, why was this guy giving a feedback to one of HIS subordinates, wich was his job?

@  Nevermore : (15 November 2018 - 06:19 AM)

Also, yesterday he stood up for me when a superior from the department I was sent to was giving me a productivity feedback.

@  Nevermore : (15 November 2018 - 06:19 AM)

So this week all of my superiors save one guy are absent, and I'm not noticing a difference. Which says a lot about this guy.

Jetfire - do we just love him for his body?

Seems everybody loves the Valkyrie Jetfire design and he gets frequent homages and updates. When Botcon was running he was one of the most frequent boxed G1 figures I noticed, as it really seemed like everybody wanted one and the dealers knew it.

Yet he really hadn't done much with his "experimental high-tech science idealist" persona, in any media. The G1 cartoon that advertised him only put him in a handful of episodes and mostly used him for transporting other guys.

Who loves Jetfire for his personality? What was his best storyline? If not for that Macross design that Hasbro briefly licensed once, would he be popular at all?

I would love to like G1 Jetfire but for now any fond feelings I have towards him are due to his cool design (and that time in ExRid where he grumbled about having to fly the ship just cuz he turns into a jet)

You can say this for a lot of G1 characters though. Who legitimately loves x for their personality or storylines and not for the way they were part of your childhood.

But also a lot of fans like Jet/Skyfire because of his connection to Starscream in the cartoon; especially female fans.

I like him in IDW, but that might just be because it makes use of his variable mask and he looks cool.

I never had the G1 toy and have no attachment to the Valkyrie alt mode for him. The thing I've always associated with him is his debut episode. He wakes up after millions of years on ice, tags along with his old friend who saved his life, eventually realizes how said friend's new team isn't where he should be, and makes his stand, seemingly dying in the process. It was one of the more memorable episodes that came out of the G1 cartoon, and always stuck with me.

Of course, then he came back a few episodes later, only to never again do anything significant. Maybe diminished the impact a bit, but that first episode is still what I'll likely always associate with the character.

I always thought Jetfire was great. Second in command, turns into a space shuttle, voiced by Scott McNeil, what's not to love?

He was big and powerful and had the same generic "witty brave guy" personality as 90% of the season 1 Autobots, or at least, he does after Fire in the Sky. And that's why I love him. I didn't read his G1 bio until later but it captured me with the descriptions of his equipment and the idea that he believed scientific advancement would win the war.

Seems like fiction didn't really capitalize on that part until IDW.

Here's what I know about G1 Jetfire:

- He's one of the best transforming toys ever designed, with good articulation, nice heft, a precise and satisfying transformation, fun accessories, and a nicely contrasting white/red/black color scheme

- I think in the cartoon he was a scientist and he was frozen in ice for a while or something

- I love him

So yeah, I'm completely in the "body" camp. I've also got three Bandai reissue Macross Valkyries because of that sweet-ass body.

I'd very much like to see a new attempt at a non-Macross Jetfire... Not Skyfire.

I think our last one was the Titanium? Eesh. Why did I just make myself remember that toy?

(And I know the Classics and Generations toys split the difference, but they both leaned heavily towards Skyfire with deco and robot designs.)

Why the hell do we like the Insecticons again?

DO we like the Insecticons?!

I love the Insecticons! They turn into cool insects, and we didn't have many animal guys early on. They have a keen matching team color scheme. On top of that, Bombshell is a creep supreme, with one of my favorite G1 character hooks, and Kickback is one of the best small G1 toys. Also, Shrapnel has a memorable voice. Plus they can clone themselves into a giant swarm and giant swarms are great.

I also love the Deluxe Insecticons for, like almost all the non-Takara toys in G1, being really neat toys.

I'd have to agree that I initially liked him because he was a cool aircraft in the show and comics, then later when I really started collecting in the 90's (and when I started getting into anime), I loved him because he was a Veritech.  So kinda in both camps.

The Insecticons were in a lot of episodes, conspicuously using their awesome voices and mind control and lightning powers and eating EVERYTHING and being distrusted even by Megatron. Both factions had to fight them like twice! Kickback was kind of a nobody but he rounded out the trio. They had much more character exposure and storyline pushing than Jetfire.

I'm not sure I get what you mean. Something that looks recognizably "G1 Jetfire" but doesn't heavily lean on the Valkyrie or even the Skyfire design?
