Blugh, the english dub of BGC is atrocious.

I might need to update my software, or they face regional limitations, cause I found no evidence of either.

DUDE! Starcom and COPS are on Tubi too!

@  Steevy Maximus : (20 February 2020 - 09:29 PM)

Spiffy! The english dub of Bubblegum Crisis on Tubi. It's gotten so hard to find these oldies on modern streaming services.

@  ▲ndrusi : (19 February 2020 - 02:34 PM)

Or do Japan's cultural values vary depending on exactly who you're trying to shut down?

@  ▲ndrusi : (19 February 2020 - 02:33 PM)

Could it be that, perhaps, these different cultural values might lead to a different approach seeming appropriate?

@  ▲ndrusi : (19 February 2020 - 02:32 PM)

Hm. Back when we were arguing about the Legends comic, I seem to recall being repeatedly told that Japan had different cultural values than the US (and therefore anyone who had a problem with anything at all was wrong to voice that opinion ever).

@  fourteenwings : (19 February 2020 - 07:23 AM)

Plus, as much as I hate to admit it, every single anime character is built to suit the audience's tastes so they buy more merch/do other things that allow $$$ to flow in the production committees direction, so the authenticity is certainly not for representation's sake.

@  fourteenwings : (19 February 2020 - 07:18 AM)

Both those anime air at midnight and are aimed at a very specific audience in a whole other media landscape. Major projects have press releases about almost everything, and there are groups just waiting to pat anybody on the back for doing what they want (GLAAD, HRC, etc)

@  B-Fox : (19 February 2020 - 03:16 AM)

It's funny that a friggin' anime about zombie idols and an anime about a school of anthropomorphic animals can have really positive trans characters WITHOUT a press release about their inclusion in the series prior to the episodes airing or having the creators announcing it on social media and patting themselves on the back for doing a thing.

Vegans are better than kids if you don't talk to them. They'll keep the lawn trimmed anyway.

Do you want vegans? Because that's how you get vegans.

@  CORVUS : (18 February 2020 - 04:33 PM)

Hook up your sprinkler system to a canister of healthy organic carrot-juice. The kids won't be able to get off your lawn fast enough.

Or there's just conveniently no reception, or all of their phones are dead at the same time. Or they're just stupid and forget about them.

its like that scene in commando. the bad guy has to get to a phone to call the big bad to tell him arnold isnt on the plane. that wouldnt happen today

Man - this ship is filthy with holograms! It's kind of fun to think about though - like, it comes with a bunch of generics and unless you pay for upgrades, they're all just duplicates of the owner/captain?

I think a bunch of himself is what he wanted.

I'm sure you're right, but my way is fun to me. :D Considering his brief description about losing his Captain, I wonder if it's his way to avoid getting attached to anyone else, even i they're not real.

So, this is timely for several reasons. Not just because of Seven, but it also addresses a sore point for some, Blud in particular.

Also, GREAT episode. Things are definitely heating up, and we see another consequence of Picard's choice to essentially give up following the Synth attack.

I'm starting to think this isn't a very good show.

We're now halfway through a season, and two things have happened:
1. Several people are in a spaceship
2. The spaceship has gone to space

And now that we've finally accomplished those two things, it's apparently time for a costume party heist episode?

I dunno, man.

Well presumbly stuff will happen in the various side-plots (the Romulans on the Borg cube will have a power struggle or something, someone in Star Fleet will try and stop Picard, stuff like that).

Meanwhile the main characters will do very little, as they try and solve the series mysteries. Picard and co will try and investigate a research station or something, they'll end up being chased by assassins, robot security guards, etc. but the information they recover will be fragmented so they'll have to go to another place to learn more.

Anyway the plot won't progress until the end of episode seven or so, which will end on a big shocking revelation or event which will be drive the rest of the plot.

I've always been a staunch Seven supporter. But this video just reminds me that Janeway was a monster.

I will agree for how many episodes we've seen, the pacing is that slow pace that has become the standard for these streaming platforms. That being said the show has done more than putting a crew together and going to space. These episodes have decided to world build a universe we haven't chronologically visited in what, two decades? And I've found that to be pretty intriguing.

The whole "Destroyer" and "destroying all life" thing makes me wonder if there's going to be a callback tieing the sisters to Control in Discovery.  Alternatively, maybe the Romulans created their own Control in the past and that is what triggered their whole anti-synth and anti-computer bent.  Though, I suppose that doesn't fit with the "secrets that would make you go insane" thing, compared to the Vulcans/Romulans as skinjob Cylons theory...

Yeah. I'd say it's like Lost maybe? Or that era of shows that have a season or series-long mystery that they take their time getting to while establishing the basic rules of their world. That style of story telling seemed to go away for a bit, but it's coming back strong with the streaming world - the difference is they force a weekly viewership (for better and worse) which makes it seem even slower in this day and age. If it could be binged, it wouldn't be as noticeable. As others have mentioned, even if they did the first three episodes as a single pilot, I think it wouldn't seem as annoying.

But the additional world-building is good, and will hopefully be pulled together as the season moves on. The holodeck casino planet bottle adventure is fairly standard fare too. We've now got our "crew" together, and this allows some time for relationship building. I just hope they don't all wind up riding alien horse-dogs through the city being chased by the authorities.

I assumed that Seven was going to be hanging out on the Artifact, but nope.  She's flying around in a spaceship doing space stuff.  I'm very curious to find out what kind of space stuff she's been up to.

It was rather touching to see Picard bonding with young Elnor.  He's come a long way since the early days of TNG when he was severely uncomfortable with children.  I'm looking forward to seeing how their adult relationship progresses.  It isn't in a great place right now.

I wonder if his brain thing is causing him to be impulsive or if he's just gotten ballsy in his old age (a difference that makes no difference, really).  Tearing down the "Romulans Only" sign and provoking the crowd was quite a thing.

Whee, surprisingly bloodless decapitation!

It's pretty sad how things fell apart after the Mars attack.  It seems that Picard just kind of gave up and retreated back to his vineyard.  He couldn't really accomplish anything without Starfleet's support, but he didn't even try to maintain his relationships.  And now that's coming back to bite him.  There might be something to be said about depression in elderly people.

Promises followed by abandonment.  That has some modern real-world parallels.

Seeing the antique Bird of Prey in a modern Star Trek production was pretty cool.  I'm really very happy with the show's balance of new and old.  The nostalgia component isn't overwhelming and it doesn't feel like pandering.

"Lost cause," huh?  Painful but realistic.  This whole ordeal does seem very emotionally similar to the future timeline in AGT.  Although this time, Picard has evidence on his side rather than just the good will of his former crew.

I'm not terribly invested in the stuff happening with Soji and the incest twins on the Artifact.  It's obviously leading somewhere but it seems pretty slow and disjointed at this point.

Rios's ship seems very nice and well-equipped for a civilian cargo vessel.

Nitpick:  when Picard paused the simulation, the birds stopped but the fire kept crackling.  I'm not sure what the point of pausing the birds was except to make the point that this is a holodeck.

Bruce Maddox didn't actually come totally from left field, but he was not someone that the story HAD to accommodate.  Because of this, it is disappointing to me that they DID build story elements out of him when they couldn't or wouldn't get the original actor.  There is no reason that someone at Daystrom couldn't have gotten ahold of B4 and figured out how to take a step forward on Soong's work.

That goes double for

Spoiler
