@  TM2-Megatron : (14 November 2019 - 03:55 PM)

Admittedly, it's been a long time since I've been to a walk-in clinic, as I tend not to get sick (and the one time I do every 4-5 years, I prefer just riding it out at home), but the last time I went I'm pretty sure you could just show up, no appointment. It may be different in Quebec, though

@  Nevermore : (14 November 2019 - 02:36 PM)

One thing to note about health insurance in Germany is that we have a two-class system: mandatory health insurance is basically the economy class, while private health insurance is the business class.

@  Nevermore : (14 November 2019 - 02:32 PM)

My local doctor is actually a shared office with several doctors where you will get randomly assigned to one of the doctors available that day.

@  Nevermore : (14 November 2019 - 02:30 PM)

Also, employers are required by law to cover part of their employees' health insurance fees, so I only have to pay my part.

@  Nevermore : (14 November 2019 - 02:28 PM)

Basic examinations and sick notes (known as "work-inability certificates" in Germany) for the employer are covered by our health insurances by default.

@  TheMightyMol... : (14 November 2019 - 12:02 PM)

Around here, we can go to a walk-in clinic whenever, but might have to wait in the queue until there's a doctor available, which can take hours on a busy day. And then hope our insurance will cover anything.

@  wonko the sane? : (14 November 2019 - 07:38 AM)

There actually are a good number of clinics around here: but the walk ins require an appointment (what?) and are only done once a week. IF you can get an appointment, you see a doctor usually within 40 minutes, but good luck getting the appointment.

@  Nevermore : (14 November 2019 - 03:35 AM)

Depending on the day.

@  Nevermore : (14 November 2019 - 03:35 AM)

We have family doctors (called "house doctors") with regular office hours where you may need an hour or two of waiting time.

@  TM2-Megatron : (14 November 2019 - 12:50 AM)

Two weeks? That seems a little long; are there not a lot of walk-in clinics around you?

@  wonko the sane? : (13 November 2019 - 07:01 PM)

Does germany make it quick and easy to see a doctor too? Cause an emergency doctor visit can take two weeks out here, and an emergency ROOM visit can take 18-24 hours.

@  Nevermore : (13 November 2019 - 06:43 PM)

(Good thing is, under German law, if you call in sick during your vacation and see a doctor immediately, you get to keep your vacation days.)

@  Nevermore : (13 November 2019 - 06:42 PM)

Too bad. My plans wee to do two more overtime hours before having my last day of vacation for the year on Friday. Oh well.

@  Nevermore : (13 November 2019 - 06:41 PM)

So I'm currently on medical leave for a particularly stupid reason: Burned my back with a hot-water bag while sleeping last night. Though the doctor said I'm hardly the first person to have this happen to them.

@  Patch : (13 November 2019 - 06:11 PM)

Just a particularly odious example of the 90s era of depicting transgender women as either the subject of crude humor, or "Jerry Springer" material.

@  Ashley : (13 November 2019 - 04:55 PM)

I think Ace Ventura legit contributed to me spending years in self denial. I will never be ok with Jim Carrey.

@  Benbot : (13 November 2019 - 01:22 PM)

I thought he since changed his tune.

@  Tm_Silverclaw : (13 November 2019 - 12:51 PM)

Jim Carry Paladin?

@  Maximus Ambus : (13 November 2019 - 12:22 PM)

Don't doubt what he can do. Sonic the Hedgehog!

@  Paladin : (13 November 2019 - 11:51 AM)

not giving a dime to a transphobic antivaxxer.

@  wonko the sane? : (13 November 2019 - 11:25 AM)

It'll be a terrible movie if jim carrey phones it in. Otherwise it should be decent.

@  Paladin : (13 November 2019 - 10:45 AM)

sonics' still gonna be a terrible movie but at least they whined loud enough to make him look passable for a 2-minute trailer. "yay."

@  ▲ndrusi : (13 November 2019 - 10:37 AM)

But of course to annoying people there's no such thing as different decisions made for different reasons, there is only "I like it so it's right" and "I don't like it so it's wrong."

@  ▲ndrusi : (13 November 2019 - 10:35 AM)

Even if we pretend it's objective truth that they were both bad, then they were bad in very different ways.

@  ▲ndrusi : (13 November 2019 - 10:33 AM)

Sonic's previous movie design looked genuinely bad. The Transformers '07 designs just looked insufficiently like what certain loud and obnoxious parts of the fandom think Transformers are required to always look like.

@  Otaku : (13 November 2019 - 08:50 AM)

Um... Purple Monkey Dishwasher?

@  TheMightyMol... : (13 November 2019 - 08:25 AM)

Do we really need to have Every Movie Transformer Thread Ever in the Squawkbox?

@  Bass X0 : (13 November 2019 - 08:13 AM)

Sure it made money but that doesn’t mean it has appealing character designs. Lot of god awful fugly faces in the Transformers movies.

@  Otaku : (12 November 2019 - 08:25 PM)

@Liege My issue with Transformers (2007) were elements I thought were unnecessary.  I know it was supposed to just be a joke, but I didn't ever need to hear about "Sam's Happy Time". >.> Which, being in awe of the first "live action" TF-film, didn't even register until I'd already purchased and watched it on DVD a few times (after seeing it in theaters 3 times).

@  Liege : (12 November 2019 - 08:22 PM)

For all the Bayisms in the 07 movie, it was tempered by Spielberg as producer. Designs aside it was an enjoyable popcorn blockbuster about a boy and his first car who happens to be an alien from another planet. They sequels are just Bay going unchecked after he proved how much bank he could bring in.

@  TM2-Megatron : (12 November 2019 - 07:12 PM)

I didn't find the designs in the '07 movie to be that bad, personally. What got really offputting was how Cybertronians in general become such huge a-holes in the later films; the designs were very much secondary to their horrible personalities

@  Sabrblade : (12 November 2019 - 06:59 PM)

And yet, Transformers still broke the bank at the box office, opened up the brand to a whole new generation of fans, shot the brand up to mainstream appeal, and enabled all kinds of new collector-oriented lines and other avenues to come about. Not saying Sonic's movie will do the same for his series, but the 2007 TF movie certainly did more good than harm.

@  Bass X0 : (12 November 2019 - 06:09 PM)

Paramount changed Sonic due to fan backlash but refused to redo Transformers 2007 with new cgi appearances based on their classic forms everyone’s knows and loves, and can relate to. Trailer 1 Sonic is as appealing a design as 2007 Bumblebee...

@  TheMightyMol... : (12 November 2019 - 02:14 PM)

I don't. They're a pain in the ass to repair.

@  Benbot : (12 November 2019 - 12:48 PM)

I wish car companies would bring back flip up headlights

@  TheMightyMol... : (12 November 2019 - 09:07 AM)

Wear a hazmat suit. It's Walmart, they're used to weird.

@  wonko the sane? : (12 November 2019 - 07:54 AM)

2 inches of snow on the side of the house, 2 feet of snow on the deck. I hate this winter already.

@  Tm_Silverclaw : (11 November 2019 - 11:33 PM)

But that requires actually going IN walmart. ;P

@  Liege : (11 November 2019 - 11:22 PM)

Pro tip for anyone hunting the for the Walmart 35th exclusives: try the seasonal aisles rather than the toy section. I found the display with all the exclusives and a bunch of the reflector wave practically untouched amongst those novelty arcade machines and a bunch of frozen merch.

@  SHIELD Agent 47 : (11 November 2019 - 09:45 PM)

Although that does spark an idea for me. In a new continuity, Censere the Necrobot could be the herald Cityspeaker for Quintessa the Necrotitan just to play on their monikers utilizing Greek for dead, nekrós.

@  SHIELD Agent 47 : (11 November 2019 - 09:26 PM)

I hate to burst your bubble, Maximus Ambus, but 90% of things said in IDW turned out to be amnesiac half-rememberings courtesy of Adaptus or outright lies courtesy of Shockwave.

@  Jenny : (11 November 2019 - 08:54 AM)

The toy's designed to look like Wipe-Out, anyway.

@  NotVeryKnightly : (11 November 2019 - 08:14 AM)

Didn't they try to retcon that into a figure of speech because that connection went against everybody else's long-term plans?

@  Maximus Ambus : (11 November 2019 - 03:53 AM)

There's still some connection given Trypticon was created by Mortilus.

@  NotVeryKnightly : (11 November 2019 - 12:12 AM)

Yeah that toy doesn't exactly look like Necrobot.

@  Sabrblade : (10 November 2019 - 08:24 PM)

But.... it's just "Necro" not "Necrobot".

@  TheMightyMol... : (10 November 2019 - 05:10 PM)

But why does the God of Death need a giant space kaiju? Wait, never mind, answered my own question.

@  Maximus Ambus : (10 November 2019 - 02:15 PM)

Yowza I just realised Titans Trypticon comes with Necro AKA Censere AKA Mortilus.

@  Nevermore : (10 November 2019 - 01:15 PM)

I... think the best equivalent would actually be the British "There is room for improvement".

@  Nevermore : (10 November 2019 - 01:15 PM)

There's always a sense of irony to it, but what the ratio between irony (you really failed) and straightworwardness (at least you achieved something) is depends on the situation and the speaker.

Was intending the species more than the individuals. Thinking about it, since most of their actual story is intricately tied into Bombshell, I'll go with him specifically instead. Sorry about being imprecise.

You weren't imprecise, I was just curious what specific angle you wanted to tackle them from. Personally, I don't think Bombshell warrants a profile of his own. The Insecticons are so intrinsically linked, it would be best do them as a whole, like Bob, D.0.C, and Buster or Rumble and Frenzy.

I'd actually would love to see your hand at the trio Tindalos. I also think we should do something the original Sourcebook never did: species and sub-species profiles.

Because Broadside is a horrible influence, I'm also claiming Armada Thrust/HoS Thrust, who will also use the Beast Wars "Transmetal" Claw Jaw redeco as a repurposed beast mode.

I have a better idea on how to write some of these.

And here he is

Name: Thrust
Real Name: Cephalotron
Occupation: Mercenary
Legal Status: Citizen of Eukaris, presumed dead/Decepticon fugitive
Place of Birth: Eukaris
Marital Status: Amica Endurae with Trickdiamond
Known Relatives: None
Group Affiliation: Wave Walker tribe, Crew of the Axalon (formerly), Decepticons (formerly), "The Thrusters"
Current Base of Operations: The Thrusters' ship, the "Hydra Cannon"
First Appearance (historical): Transformers Armada episode #25, "Tactician"
First Appearance (this continuity): Hearts of Steel #2

History: The Decepticon that would later share the Decepticon identity of "Thrust" was originally a Eukarian tactician serving under Domitius Major named "Cephalotron". Transforming into a creature remiscent of an Earth cephalopod, Cephalotron was part of the Wave Walker tribe, before he joined Domitius's exploration crew at the behest of Onyx Prime, where he continued to lend his tactical skills. However, as the crew's mission was exploration, not warfare, Cephalotron found his talents mostly unneeded. Due to growing paranoia and wanting to avoid obsolesence, Cephalotron staged a mutiny that ultimately failed. As a consequence, he was put into forced stasis for the rest of the mission.

However, their mission's end never came. The Eukarian ship was shot down over a planet called Earth, and Cephalotron, along with his fellow crewmates, were collected, remodeled, and reprogrammed to believe they were Autobots and Decepticons from the planet Cybertron. Ironically, Cephalotron would be the one partially responsible for what befell him and the crew, as it was his mutiny that ended up prematurely depleting their vessel's Energon stocks. Cephalotron was remade in the image of Thrust, a Decepticon air warrior, and was given a new flying alt mode, losing his submersible capabilities.

For the next century, "Thrust" and his fellow "Decepticons" battled "Optimus Prime" and his Autobots in simulated war games orchestrated by Shockwave, until all the Eukarians became low on energy and went into stasis. Thrust would wake up, many centuries later, after the departure of Shockwave. The two sides resumed their war in 19th century Earth, and Thrust was present when his "superior" Starscream tried to sway the human Tobias Muldoon to their side. However, something was amiss with the so-called Decepticon.

A random glitch in his diagnostic systems had caused Thrust's original memories to start to return, first in bits and pieces. This was enough to make him flee the Decepticons in confusion, and as a result, he fled them in order to make sense of the myriad memories running through his head. He went underground, spending many years in stasis as his original identity reasserted himself. But in all actuality, he could never go back to the way he was. He was no longer Cephalotron, nor was he the Decepticon he'd been remade in the image of. Instead, he was a combination of the two.

Thrust bided his time. Over the years, he watched as the real Autobots and Decepticons brought their war to Earth, and he became aware of the real Thrust's death in New York City. Taking advantage, he used the opportunity to get off planet by scanning Thrust's schematics and joining the Decepticons' exodus from the planet. No one noticed as he took the original Thrust's place on Astrotrain, and he was able to abandon the ship before anyone noticed him as well. Thrust drifted through space for some time, until he was able to catch passage to Troja Major, where he managed to find someone willing to remodel his outer appearance. Thrust was effectively reborn, retaining his new name while adopting a colorscheme that was evocative of his Eukarian identity.

Since then, Thrust has allied himself with a runaway Camien mercenary named Trickdiamond and a surviving refugee from the destruction of Prion named Inferno. The trio work together as soldiers for hire, with Thrust serving as the "brains" of the operation. Due to his own ego, Thrust has dubbed the group the "Thrusters", but neither Trickdiamond and Inferno are particularly fond of it.

Height: 23'
Weight: 18 tons
Eyes: Red
Hair: None

Strength Level: Thrust has average average strength for a Cybertronian, and his origins as an aquatic Transformer give him above-average endurance and resistance to pressure and force.

Unusual Powers: Like all Cybertronians, Thrust has the ability to transform between "robot" and "alt-mode". Where he once transformed into a squid-like lifeform, he now turns into an aircraft of extraterrestrial design, which is capable of both atmospheric and subluminal space flight. His origins as a member of the Wave Walker tribe also allow him to submerge himself without causing damage to his internal systems, though his new external modifications are still vulnerable to being flooded with water.

Weapons: Thrust is equipped with two underwing  laser cannons in vehicle mode, while in robot mode, he relies on spewing jets of flaming exhaust from his hands, which serve as his vehicle mode's engine thrusters. He's also able to create windstorms by rotating the wings on his back, which is similar to an ability he used on Eukaris that involved rapidly spinning his tentacles to create whirlpools.

Our needs include freedom from abuse, violence, and mistreatment, the right to autonomy and self-direction, the right to represent ourselves, equal opportunity for education and employment, the right to accommodation, and societal inclusion and acceptance.

And here we go, the Insecticons.

Insecticons

Past Members: Bombshell (deceased), Kickback, Shrapnel, Barrage, Chopshop, Ransack, Venom
Occupations: Insecticons
Legal Status: Indigenous Cybertronian Life
Current Base of Operations: Cybertron
First Appearance (historical): The Transformers episode "A Plague of Insecticons"
First Appearance (this continuity): Megatron Origins #4

History: The insecticons began existence as just another type of beast, no different than the others who owed their existence to Onyx Prime. Like the other beasts, their fortunes rose and fell with Onyx, and after the War of the Primes and the rise of Nova Prime, they became the lowest rung of Cybertronian citizens, treated as little more than vermin.
As such, the beasts became the perfect test subjects for Nova's scientist, Jhiaxus. The scientist was obsessed with the secrets of combination that had been lost with Onyx's brother, Nexus Prime, and sought to recreate them anew.
To this end he performed experiments, linking both the minds and bodies of beasts, forming abominations of science that only came to an end with the creation of his "perfect" combiner, Monstructor.
One of his rejects, easily forgotten when compared to his prize, were a group of insectoid beasts, which although lacking a true gestalt consciousness, experienced a kind of (reinforcement effect).
Simply put, the more of them there were in close proximity, the smarter they became. Individually their intelligence withered, as they became more reliant on swarming together as a hive.
Abandoned by their creators, they found refuge beneath the surface of Cybertron, lurking in the deep, cavernous tunnel system.
In the pre-war period of the Senate, as the Decepticon movement started to blossom, a few members of the Insecticons found refuge amongst it. Often being taken in as mere fodder in their underground gladiatorial matches, many actually became proud members of the faction. Some, less intelligent ones became tools, being used to perform primitive forms of mnemosurgery with their feeding mouth-parts.
The Decepticon leader, Megatron, had always been obsessed with the science of combination. And when he had abandoned many of his other routes through the war (the loss of his chief Scientist and apprentice to Jhiaxus, Shockwave, and the apparent destruction of Monstructor chief among them) he turned his attention to the Insecticons.
While not a true gestalt, their intelligence was a useful tool for war, and he had the Scientist Deluge attempt to break them through into a true hive-mind.
His results were mixed.
Instead of a hive mind, he instead produced a swarm of thousands near-mindless monoformer drones and three Insecticons gifted with all the neural circuitry their compatriots lacked.
One of them, Bombshell, proved an absolute genius, creating many battle strategies that unleashed devastation against the Autobots during the surge. He also became a master of mnemosurgery, able to alter memories to create sleeper agents to work against the Autobots.
He even helped turn Sunstreaker, making him betray Optimus Prime by turning already traumatic memories into a living hell.
The rejects were unleashed upon Cybertron's surface, already a radiation soaked wasteland by then, which the swarm took to like it was paradise, feeding on the leftover scrap and devouring every drop of Energon they could find.
The swarm eventually met its end years later, when the Titan Metroplex returned to the world. They were crushed beneath the power of his arsenal, with only a small number making it to safety in the depths of the planet, returning to the ancient home of their precursors.
After the war ended, the remaining Insecticons became split, with some remaining true to Megatron's cause, while others sought service with more mercenary leaders such as Lockdown's group of Titan Hunters.

Unusual Powers: As with other forms of Cybertronian life, most Insecticons possess the ability to change between "robot mode" and an "alt mode." The Insecticons prefer multi-limbed insectoid modes based on the indigenous life of various alien worlds.

Weapons: Members possess fearsome teeth, claws, and feeding instruments. Many also possess firearms when in robot modes.

Not perfect, but hopefully suitable. Attempted an explanation their various appearances outside AHM. Also provides a useful explanation for the difference between Sunstreaker's memories and what we saw happen.

Side Burn

Real Name: N/A
Occupation: Velocitron Race Champion
Legal Status: Citizen of Velocitron
Place of Birth: Velocitron
Marital Status: Single (call him, ladies)
Known Relatives: X-Brawn (brother), Mach Alert (sister)
Group Affiliation: None
Current Base of Operations: Navitas, Velocitron
First Appearance: "Transformers: Robots in Disguise (2001)", episode 1, "Battle Protocol"

History: The Velocitronian known as Side Burn was born from a rare triple branched spark born from the hot spot carried by the Titan, Navitas. Both he and his two siblings, X-Brawn and Mach Alert, were brought on-line at different points in time, however, with Side Burn being activated last. As the "younger" sibling, he was constantly chasing after his two siblings; Mach Alert was the fastest of the trio, and X-Brawn the most technically inclined, which left Side Burn constantly feeling as though he was in their shadow.

These feelings turned into even greater frustration when Mach Alert opted to become a race marshall, overseeing the various rules and regulations of the many races going on on Velocitron, rather than becoming a racer themselves. Side Burn felt his sister was wasting her talents, which was especially aggravating when he'd been unable to establish himself. Seeking to rebel against his older sister and to fulfill his natural Velocitronian drive to race, Side Burn fell in with the underground racing circuits organized by Velocitronian criminals, Dirt Boss Downshift, and Blight.

The underground races were brutal, but Side Burn managed to make a name for himself, winning multiple races. Dirt Boss, who had been drummed out of the official racing circuits for multiple rule violations, came to resent the young racer, feeling that his spotlight was being stolen. He tasked Blight with switching Side Burn's fuel with a toxic form of synthetic energon, dubbed "Tox-En" by the nefarious physicist, which began to steadily poison and weaken Side Burn during his next race, leaving him at Dirt Boss's mercy. However, Side Burn would be saved when the race was suddenly interrupted by a raid from Mach Alert and the race marshalls. To her horror, Mach Alert found her brother, poisoned , heavily damaged, and nearly on the verge of spark failure.

Rather than admonish their sibling, Mach Alert and X-Brawn realized they'd partly driven their brother to this, and resolved to help with his recovery. Not only that, Mach Alert managed to convince Override to grant her brother a reprieve. Together, they helped Side Burn in his physical recovery, and before long, Side Burn managed to get back into racing shape. This time, he tried for the official circuits again, with X-Brawn serving as head of his pit crew and Mach Alert supporting him from the sidelines. After several disappointments, he finally qualified, and officially began his career as a major racer.

When contact was made with Cybertron, Side Burn was excited. He observed, but was unable to participate in, the race won by Blurr, which triggered in him an interest in other worlds. When space bridge access was opened up, Side Burn took every chance he could to visit his people's homeworld along with the other colonies, eager to meet new people and race new, interesting opponents.

Height: 28'
Weight: 13 tons
Eyes: Red
Hair: None

Strength: Side Burn possesses average physical strength and above average speed and endurance befitting a Velocitronian racer.

Unusual powers: Side Burn shares the Cybertronian ability to transform between "robot" and "alt-mode". His alternate mode is a Velocitronian racer. He lost his left optic in the race that nearly claimed his life, and replaced it with a new optical unit that doubles as a speed radar.

Weapons: As a Velocitronian, Side Burn does not typically carry weapons. However, during his days in the underground racing circuit, he opted to carry a bowgun and a small energy pistol with a miniature bayonet for protection. He has kept them, but only carries them with them when going offworld. One might also say that his greatest weapon is his charm (that "one" being Side Burn himself; he actually has very poor luck with relationships).

"Disabled people dont have special needs. We have very reasonable human needs. Our needs include freedom from abuse, violence, and mistreatment, the right to autonomy and self-direction, the right to represent ourselves, equal opportunity for education and employment, the right to accommodation, and societal inclusion and acceptance.

The need for accommodation isnt a special need. Its a basic human right. Its a leveling of the playing field that allows us the same opportunities and chances as non-disabled people."
