@  Tm_Silverclaw : (11 November 2019 - 11:33 PM)

But that requires actually going IN walmart. ;P

@  Liege : (11 November 2019 - 11:22 PM)

Pro tip for anyone hunting the for the Walmart 35th exclusives: try the seasonal aisles rather than the toy section. I found the display with all the exclusives and a bunch of the reflector wave practically untouched amongst those novelty arcade machines and a bunch of frozen merch.

@  SHIELD Agent 47 : (11 November 2019 - 09:45 PM)

Although that does spark an idea for me. In a new continuity, Censere the Necrobot could be the herald Cityspeaker for Quintessa the Necrotitan just to play on their monikers utilizing Greek for dead, nekrós.

@  SHIELD Agent 47 : (11 November 2019 - 09:26 PM)

I hate to burst your bubble, Maximus Ambus, but 90% of things said in IDW turned out to be amnesiac half-rememberings courtesy of Adaptus or outright lies courtesy of Shockwave.

@  Jenny : (11 November 2019 - 08:54 AM)

The toy's designed to look like Wipe-Out, anyway.

@  NotVeryKnightly : (11 November 2019 - 08:14 AM)

Didn't they try to retcon that into a figure of speech because that connection went against everybody else's long-term plans?

@  Maximus Ambus : (11 November 2019 - 03:53 AM)

There's still some connection given Trypticon was created by Mortilus.

@  NotVeryKnightly : (11 November 2019 - 12:12 AM)

Yeah that toy doesn't exactly look like Necrobot.

@  Sabrblade : (10 November 2019 - 08:24 PM)

But.... it's just "Necro" not "Necrobot".

@  TheMightyMol... : (10 November 2019 - 05:10 PM)

But why does the God of Death need a giant space kaiju? Wait, never mind, answered my own question.

@  Maximus Ambus : (10 November 2019 - 02:15 PM)

Yowza I just realised Titans Trypticon comes with Necro AKA Censere AKA Mortilus.

@  Nevermore : (10 November 2019 - 01:15 PM)

I... think the best equivalent would actually be the British "There is room for improvement".

@  Nevermore : (10 November 2019 - 01:15 PM)

There's always a sense of irony to it, but what the ratio between irony (you really failed) and straightworwardness (at least you achieved something) is depends on the situation and the speaker.

@  Nevermore : (10 November 2019 - 01:12 PM)

The meaning can be both literal (you succeed on one level but fail on another), or it can be utterly ironic (you fail in every regard but the most technical; or even worse, "you really gave your best"), and anything in between.

@  Nevermore : (10 November 2019 - 01:10 PM)

For example: A singer can hit the notes really well, but clearly isn't a native speaker and what little of the lyrics you can make out sounds nothing like what it's supposed to be.

@  wonko the sane? : (10 November 2019 - 01:06 PM)

The premise seems to be the mixing of technical and aesthetic technical qualities towards the overall success.

@  wonko the sane? : (10 November 2019 - 01:05 PM)

But both "hollow victory" and pyrrhic victory" are referring to having lost as much as you've gained. IE; a battle was won but both armies were destroyed. The town being seiged is victorious, but all the soldiers are still dead. Nevermore's concept is more "You did it, but it's so ugly we don't know if you actually succeeded".

@  Sabrblade : (10 November 2019 - 11:35 AM)

Alternately, one could probably also call it a "hollow victory".

@  Sabrblade : (10 November 2019 - 11:35 AM)

Example: In the Powerpuff Girls episode "Uh Oh Dynamo", the monster-of-the-day was a really tough, giant-size one that required the use of a really destructive mech to defeat it. While the monster was ultimately beaten, the city of Townsville was utterly trashed by the mech's weapons in the process. So, while the city was saved from the monster, it was harmed even worse by the mech that saved it, making the victory bittersweet.

@  Sabrblade : (10 November 2019 - 11:32 AM)

@Nevermore, sounds to me like what one might call a "bittersweet victory". The goal was met, but at great cost or by disastrous result that call into question if the achieved goal could even be called a success.

@  Arvegtor : (10 November 2019 - 09:40 AM)

Seems to be close enough to "Pyrrhic victory"

@  NotVeryKnightly : (10 November 2019 - 09:37 AM)

What do you get from putting the German term through a translator?

@  wonko the sane? : (10 November 2019 - 08:57 AM)

That is a ridiculously interesting concept. But I don't think english has a singular term for what you're describing.

@  Nevermore : (10 November 2019 - 08:28 AM)

Is there an English equivalent for what we Germans call "deductions in the B rating"? Context: Someone did something and suceeded on a technical level (as in, achieved the intended goal), but failed to some degree in the details, i.e. there was some collateral damage, or while a technical success, the end result is an aestetic failure. It can be used highly ironically, as in "barely achieved the intended goal, but failed so much in every aspect that's not purely technical that it might as well be considered an utter failure altogether." The German term is derived from the old judging syste in figure skating, which gave separate ratings for "technical merit" and "presentation", with the latter being the origin of the German term.

@  SHIELD Agent 47 : (10 November 2019 - 02:32 AM)

Huh. I did not know before today that "medieval" had an alternate spelling "mediaeval". Like "paleontology" and "palaeontology".

@  Maximus Ambus : (09 November 2019 - 04:15 PM)

'Beast Wars in underrated' the comment went. I exploded.

@  PlutoniumBoss : (09 November 2019 - 02:19 PM)

Absolutely.

@  wonko the sane? : (09 November 2019 - 02:14 PM)

So... you can look like a cop from the 70's AND a huge nerd at the same time?

@  PlutoniumBoss : (09 November 2019 - 02:09 PM)

I feel like the best way to carry the Switch would be an under-arm torso holster.

@  Tm_Silverclaw : (09 November 2019 - 12:31 PM)

It's not. hell. If the 3DS zelda case just stretched a LITTLE more it would fit.

@  TheMightyMol... : (09 November 2019 - 03:38 AM)

I feel like the Switch Lite is a bit big to have hanging on your belt like that, but I don't take my Switch out with me often anyway.

@  Tm_Silverclaw : (09 November 2019 - 01:13 AM)

I must be the only one who wants a switch lite case with a belt loop. o.O

@  TheMightyMol... : (08 November 2019 - 03:03 PM)

I'm gonna have "Chainsaw Buffet" and "Candy For the Cannibal" by Lordi playing in my head all night.

@  Maximus Ambus : (08 November 2019 - 12:36 PM)

Trick or treaters can only consent to cannibalism in Germania.

@  Sabrblade : (07 November 2019 - 12:12 PM)

Hey, if the trick or treaters can't take some loving insults, that's their problem.

@  Arazyr : (07 November 2019 - 11:39 AM)

Just make sure to put the leftovers in the fridge, so they don't get spoiled.

@  wonko the sane? : (07 November 2019 - 11:10 AM)

I love children... but I can never eat a whole one.

@  TheMightyMol... : (07 November 2019 - 09:52 AM)

I can neither confirm nor deny this allegation.

@  Paladin : (07 November 2019 - 09:46 AM)

...you don't roast the trick or treaters, do you....

@  wonko the sane? : (07 November 2019 - 09:38 AM)

A cold beer, a warm fire, some smores and trick or treaters... Man, you got this life thing down.

@  wonko the sane? : (07 November 2019 - 09:37 AM)

That actually sounds pretty awesome.

@  MEDdMI : (07 November 2019 - 08:59 AM)

we'll move to the open garage if it's raining

@  MEDdMI : (07 November 2019 - 08:58 AM)

every Halloween since we got a house, TMM and I chill in the driveway with a fire bowl and roast things while handing out candy. It's pretty great.

@  Maximus Ambus : (07 November 2019 - 03:42 AM)

Peter Cullen voiced King Kong let that sink in.

@  TM2-Megatron : (06 November 2019 - 11:42 PM)

I've noticed that after a year or two, though, people with children will start getting into it for their kids

@  TM2-Megatron : (06 November 2019 - 11:41 PM)

I think a lot of the decline you see in Halloween is due to newcomers to Canada who don't really get it... I mean, there are only a handful of countries in the world that practice this particular oddity

@  SHIELD Agent 47 : (06 November 2019 - 12:29 PM)

I recently attended a talk on Samhain and its associated mythology by a professor from Limerick.

@  Otaku : (06 November 2019 - 11:49 AM)

Trunk or Treats have become more popular because it is supposed to be safer, and even if it isn't, it just tends to be easier for the Trick-or-Treaters.

@  wonko the sane? : (06 November 2019 - 11:00 AM)

That's okay: between ever more extreme weather, ever more violent society, and general paranoia of parents: halloweens not doing to well out here either.

@  Anonymous X : (06 November 2019 - 09:30 AM)

We used to have Bonfire Night here in the UK as our thing instead of Halloween... It's withered away for the most part. Halloween used to be the strange American tradition you knew of from ET or various cartoons

First, there was Battle Protocol. Then there was the Allspark Fan Character Sourcebook. Welcome to the latest fan project from Allspark's Chronicles of Cybertron...

Allspark-HHSE-Logo.png?ssl=1

Completed Issues:

Issue #1

Issue #2

FAQs:
What is the Hasbro Heroes Sourcebook Extended?
Great question! If you’ll recall, last year, IDW Publishing released the Hasbro Heroes Sourcebook, a guidebook featuring characters from across the newly-minted Hasbro Universe. Over three individual issues, 81 characters from Transformers, G.I. Joe, Micronauts, ROM, Action Man, and M.A.S.K. were given profiles that recapped their known history and revealed previously unknown details about their lives.

But come on, there’s a LOT more than 81 characters in the Hasbro Universe. That’s why we created the Sourcebook Extended, an ongoing project that seeks to celebrate, explore, and expand the Hasbro Universe by giving new, original profiles to every single character that has appeared in this universe (and even some that haven’t.)

In addition, we also want to use this as a vehicle for storytelling, so each issue will include original fan comics and prose stories that expand on the mythology of the IDW Universe in ways the normal comics wouldn’t be able to. Sometimes they’ll be action-oriented romps, sometimes they’ll be quiet character pieces.

And best of all, this book is entirely the work of YOU, the Allspark community!

How do I contribute?
Select a character from the Hasbro Universe that you want to write a profile for, then go to our thread in the Allspark Forums’ Chronicles of Cybertron and (assuming someone else hasn’t already done it) post a reply with which character you’d like to do. Keep in mind that this system operates on a “first come, first serve” basis.

Once you’ve done that, write up the character’s profile following the established Sourcebook format and submit it to our editors (Daniel Adkins, Jolene “Broadside” Blake, and Steven “SoS” Sosa) either via the Messenger function on the Allspark Forums (if you want to keep your profile under wraps) or by posting it in the thread below. The editors will then look over it, give any notes they feel are necessary, and it will go into the drafting process. Also be sure you let us know how you want to be credited in the book.

I like (INSERT CHARACTER HERE), but they don’t exist in the Hasbro Universe. Can I make a profile for them?
Sure! So long as the history of the character works within the established IDW continuity, then new characters can definitely be added in. (See Cogman in our first issue as an example).

What about my OCs?
At this time, we will not be featuring OCs, though reimaginings of minor characters, cameos, concept art and unnamed toys are all fair game. But if you want to talk about your OCs, we'd love to read about them in the Chronicles of Cybertron Fan Character forum!

Can we make up new stories and info for the characters?
Yes. In fact, it's encouraged (within reason). If we wanted pure summaries of what characters have done in canon, we'd go to the wiki.

I’m not much of a writer, but I am an artist. Can I still help out?
Of course! We wish we could have wholly original art for every character in the book, but sadly that isn’t feasible for a fan project like this. We would love to have our users contribute new artwork for characters. If you would like to draw a specific character, you can sign up for that character. If you don’t have a specific character, but still want to volunteer your artistry, our editors can help match you with a character who needs artwork.

We're also looking for artists to contribute cover art for future issues featuring the various characters included.

Can I both write a character’s profile and draw them?
Absolutely!

How do I contribute prose stories/comics?
If you’re interested in submitting a prose story or a comic, use the Allspark Forum Messenger to send a “pitch” to our editors of what the story will entail, or if its a story you’ve previously written, send us a link to where to view it. We would prefer they be wholly new stories, and would also like for them to (like those featured in the official Sourcebook) feature characters from more than one franchise, but that’s more of a guideline than an outright rule. Another rule is that, like the profiles, they must be based in the IDW Universe.

Also, be sure to keep them short. 3-4 pages are ideal.

Will you help match writers with artists?
No. If you are a writer who wishes to do a comic, you must find an artist to work with yourself. But feel free to visit the Allspark Pictures threads in our Forum to view many of the talented artists we have in our community.

Rules for submission:

  • You must be a registered Allspark Forums member to contribute.

  • Profiles must be written to be compatible with the current IDW continuity, as well as with the other profiles. So read the comics, consult the wiki, and make sure your character isn’t hanging out on the Lost Light when he died back on Earth.

  • IDW continuity only! You might have a great idea at how to work Cybertron Crosswise into Animated, but that isn’t what this project is for. (For that, try the Character Bio forums in Chronicles.)

  • Have fun!

So get out there and start writing (or drawing) Allsparkers!

I know I should probably do some characters who have actually appeared first, but could I call dibs on Clamp Down? The Sideswipe cop redeco, not the crab dude. I've had an idea for him floating around for ages.

I've also got some notions about Rhinox I could put down, but their ramifications are slightly more significant and, given recent revelations over in OP, they may be contradicted fairly soon, so I'd rather wait a little longer on that one.

One last question (sorry): When you say every character, does that include, like, Jugurnot and Eeems and other such characters whose sole contribution to the mythos is "stood in the background while the important characters did stuff"? Or is that just me being facetious?

Of course! We've already got Cogman in there, and there's already a profile cooked up for a certain trio from Armada...

I don't believe so, though he's established to be a Camien medic in Hot Shot's profile.

(Well, it could be "he"; you could take a page out of Animated's book...)

I'd like to claim Universe Ramjet. Got an idea in mind of how to make an IDW version of him fit.

Ramjet

Real Name: Antrodemonus
Occupation: Talisman Sentinel (formerly), Dire Wraith Pawn (Formerly)
Legal status: Citizen of Eukaris, missing and presumed dead
Place of birth: Eukaris
Marital status: Single
Known relatives: None
Group affiliation: None
Current base of operations: Mobile.
First appearance (historical): Balancing Act (2005)
First appearance (this continuity): N/A

History: Antrodemonus has, over the millennia, become privy to vast amounts of secret lore. From his early life, studying at the hooves of Onyx Prime, to his implanted memories as "Ramjet" in Shockwave's Beast Wars, and even his exposure to the eldritch knowledge of the dire wraiths.
This has, unfortunately, left him utterly insane.
Forged early in Eukaris' time, Antrodemonus never accepted the tribalization that Eukaris was undergoing. Abandoning any connection to the future Scale Walker tribe, he pledged himself directly to Onyx Prime. He spent many centuries memorizing the Prime's prophecies, even while knowing he would never truly understand them. When Onyx was assembling the Axalon's crew, Antrodemonus was honored to accept a place on board, serving under Vexillum as a protector of the Talisman.
This mission would come to an abrupt conclusion, when the Axalon was shot down by the Decepticon Scientist, Shockwave. Inspired by the errant words of one of Antrodemonus' crew-members, and struck by the crew's similarity to many figures of his own history; Shockwave reprogrammed the Axalon's crew, implanting memories based on heroes and villains of Cybertron's past. His goal was to study the Cybertronian war in miniature, a war game he controlled. Antrodemonus was chosen to play the part of Ramjet, filling him with the easily bruised yet self-inflated ego of the Decepticon grunt.
Some sense of the original Antrodemonus' devotion was still intact as when the war broke down, both sides collapsing for lack of energon, "Ramjet" was one of the last to give in, still fighting as his systems shut down, frozen in the ice for what seemed like an eternity.
When he awoke many millennia later, he was not welcomed by his fellow "Decepticons", or found by the native human population. Instead he was captured by a race of multi-eyed horrors serving even worse gods, carrying him back to their nameless city in the depths of the ocean.
These were Dire Wraiths, part of the invading force on Earth. They believed the lifeblood of the Eukarians would help feed one of their dark gods, awakening it to live once more; while they could use their magic to become one with the "Decepticon" warriors, striding across the land alongside their god in invulnerable bodies of iron.
While most of his fellows were used in raids across the surface world's coast, "Ramjet" found the memories of his original life surfacing at the worst time. As the wraith tendrils merged with his armor plating, "Ramjet" started letting loose a string of rambling prophecies memorized millenia ago. The wraiths would have continued heedlessly, until "Ramjet" mentioned Elonia, a world the Dire Wraiths were attempting to colonise with little success.
Fascinated by this titbit of knowledge, the wraiths turned "Ramjet" into a kind of oracle, probing his mind as they slowly altered his body into a hybrid of Cybertronian alloys and wraith biomatter. Even as their plans were foiled, and one of their gods wounded by "Optimus Prime" (formerly Antrodemonus' commanding officer, Domitus Major) the wraiths became enraptured by the prophecies of Onyx Prime.
"Ramjet" spoke of a time of ending, when the ores of the cyclops would feed the dark god. The wraiths became convinced they were on the right path, and started harvesting Ore-13 from Earth, using it in their attempts to wake their gods.
This proved the wraith's undoing, as it got them entangled in the plots of invading Cybertronians, microscopic adventurers, men of action, and other humans. They allied with the wraith's foes, the Solstar Order, driving them out, scattering them to the winds, and destroying their plans.
Which left Ramjet alone. Now fully adopting his assumed name for his own, his body had been reshaped and recreated so many times by the Dire Wraiths, which allowed him to finally escape -- although his mind was long since broken by his experiences. Now a fusion of wraith and Cybertronian biology, he reshaped his body in imitation of a story long since forgotten. A warrior Onyx Prime had spoken of, for in his delirium, Ramjet believed he was the Chosen One.

Height: 25'
Weight: 20 tons
Eyes: Yellow
Hair: None.

Strength level: Originally Ramjet once was below average strength for a Eukarian, his flyer mode requiring him to be as light as possible. Now, he possesses strength far above his weight class, his adaptable wraith biology also making him highly unpredictable in combat.

Unusual powers: Once Ramjet possessed the normal Cybertronian ability to change between "robot" and an alternate mode. His alt-mode was a draconic beast, soaring the sky as a powerful predator. Now as a dire-wraith hybrid, he can alter his body at whim, adopting an alternate mode based on one assumed by Starscream in the past. Unfortunately, his shape-changing is now limited by his attention span, whenever his thoughts wander his chassis erupts into tendrils of wraith biomatter. If sufficiently distracted, he may even lose his sense of self, collapsing into an indeterminate mass of metal and flesh.

Weapons: While Ramjet primarily uses a pair of swords for self-defence, his greatest weapon is his touch. The wraith biomatter that makes up half of his body is extremely dangerous to Cybertronian life, corroding and poisoning whatever he comes into contact with.

Hopefully this works okay. I tried to tie Infestation 2 a bit more closely into the Hasbro Universe, combining with the tormented version of Ramjet and a theoretical Eukarian version. (Ramjet being the only one of the coneheads not to show up in any of the Hearts of Steel stories.) His original name is taken from the swords that came with the Timelines toy.

It seems the link to Battle Protocol is down. Where can I find it again?

Here's the new one!

Thanks to all of the staff that hustled against impossible odds and deadlines to get this first issue done to announce at Robocon 2 and to all the people jumping in now! It looks the future is bright for free by the fans for the fans projects in this community and it's unstoppable number of thriving sub communities. You all keep making me proud. :thumbsup

Who knows, maybe if this proves a success, there could be others. There's a whole multiverse of Transformers out there!

And I would like to draw them! This project is really cool and it would be great fun to take part in it.

Got a scanner and some POTP cards? I'm collecting scans! Check out my progress and upload what you have.

Awesome! We'd love to have more original art featured in the book.
