Ha! Talk about getting away with something!

@  Maximus Ambus : (01 June 2020 - 09:08 AM)

Carnivac was still an evil Decepticon at heart, and no one shot him in the back for it.

I feel a need to lighten up the mood.... ;)

@  -LittleAutob... : (30 May 2020 - 10:38 AM)

:p

@  Maximus Ambus : (30 May 2020 - 02:14 AM)

Shockwave did it.

@  NotVeryKnightly : (30 May 2020 - 12:21 AM)

I'm not in the US and at least some of the episodes seem to work for me. I don't know the actual list of places it's available, though.

@  Shockwave 75 : (29 May 2020 - 10:37 PM)

Unfortunately It seems Cyberverse is only available in the US on YouTube.

@  -LittleAutob... : (29 May 2020 - 09:19 AM)

Yes, and its ongoing.

@  NotVeryKnightly : (29 May 2020 - 01:05 AM)

Cyberverse is already officially uploaded to YouTube.

@  fourteenwings : (29 May 2020 - 12:36 AM)

Spin Master is abridging current episodes of Bakugan Armored Alliance and posting the result on YouTube. Maybe Hasbro does that someday too.

@  -LittleAutob... : (28 May 2020 - 10:59 PM)

I see... :/

@  wonko the sane? : (28 May 2020 - 08:14 PM)

Within the US anyway. Those channels aren't easy or cheap to access in other countries, and their website often region lock content. Tubi is the only good thing on that list: largely identical (but not perfectly so. Damnit. I wanna watch COPS.) country to country and free.

@  Steevy Maximus : (28 May 2020 - 07:24 PM)

So yeah, Hasbro is using plenty of venues to spread exposure of their brands

@  Steevy Maximus : (28 May 2020 - 07:23 PM)

Starz currently licenses Transformers G1 and the GI Joe movie (as well as MLP specials). Netflix has more current series available.

@  Nevermore : (28 May 2020 - 07:21 PM)

Study shows: Holders of the title "world's oldest person" have a severely increased risk of dying.

@  Steevy Maximus : (28 May 2020 - 07:18 PM)

Tubi TV and Youtube both host various Hasbro cartoons. Both are freely accessed and ad supported. Any basic TV package (barring straight antenna) includes channels like USA Network, SyFy and FX, all of which regularly air the films from Transformers and GI Joe.

@  wonko the sane? : (28 May 2020 - 06:18 PM)

I dunno what to tell you, media might be changing slowly, but at least it's still accessible. Even the folks that DON'T get one of the streaming services can watch it on the company website. It's a vehicle for the toy line after all, they need to make an effort to make it as consumable as possible.

@  -LittleAutob... : (28 May 2020 - 05:41 PM)

Well. Thats said, then.... I guess... :doh

@  wonko the sane? : (28 May 2020 - 04:13 PM)

As long as the the cartoons are profitable, then they'll make more. The media it's shown on is completely irrelevant. I say that as a guy whose earliest surviving memory is a big red truck turning into a big red robot.

@  ZakuConvoy : (28 May 2020 - 03:06 PM)

Might be the end of an era. With the rise of streaming, who knows if Transformers will ever be on broadcast TV again.

@  -LittleAutob... : (28 May 2020 - 11:46 AM)

3 seasons on a show is usually enough... but yeah ;-;

@  Roddie Luver : (27 May 2020 - 09:37 PM)

I’m also sad Cyberverse has no season four.

@  Paladin : (26 May 2020 - 08:10 PM)

@  Steevy Maximus : (25 May 2020 - 01:37 PM)

I'm actually sad Cyberverse won't get another season. 2 and 3 (of what I've seen) have REALLY nailed it in being fun little actions shows, like the Sunbow series.

@  Rycochet : (25 May 2020 - 01:00 PM)

Seems that every other episode is typically animated worse than normal.

Finally finished. What a spectacular show full of brilliant characters.

That said it all felt very familiar. Gather the people, learn the history, use the Elements of Harmony... it seemed like it was trying to tick a lot of Contemporary Awesome Animated Show boxes. Which, cool.

But as a revival of She-Ra I feel I didn't get anything out of it at all. I just couldn't really get past the lack of secret identity. It's so fundamental to the classic Adam and Adora, I just can't read this as She-Ra without it.

Still, examined from a less 80s-enslaved perspective, it's definitely bloody good. Bring on season two, and we've plenty of Filmation to watch while we wait.

But it's so friggin bad.

There is literally no disguise aspect to it. She changes clothes.

Even Clark Kent has glasses.

I can't say that sounds too bad after watching Sailor Moon take like 80 episodes for anyone to point out that Usagi's different identities visually resemble each other, and the oddly complicated identity-figuring schemes in its earlier episodes.

Though I'm speaking as someone who's never seen She-Ra.

She also like doubles in size. Everyone always comments on how tall She-Ra is in this show.

Yeah, the secret identity angle would work much better in the Netflix version because it's NOT just Adora with a sword and a tan.

The original Adora transformation isn't even that different.  It's Adora with better hair and a more firm voice.  Adam went from pasty to tan.  :D

New She-ra's hair change is even more significant (length and color) and She-ra is fairer skinned than Adora.

Yeah, the secret identity angle would work much better in the Netflix version because it's NOT just Adora with a sword and a tan.

Yet the world setting doesn't really work for that, because Adora is pretty much the only one who seems normal to us, Glimmer teleports and throws sparkly balls, Bow walking around with a shirt with a massive heart on it for some silly reason, on top of carrying a bow and arrows, the other princesses aren't much better, so secert idenity just went out the window when Adora appeared in front of Glimmer's mum and then changed back from She-ra and pretty much put her life in Glimmer's mother's hands as she revealed herself to be a Horde soldier. I think Glimmer's mother might sort of start to think of Adora as a second daughter, at least going by the scene where she invited to join the hug, thou my personal view is, it should of been better for Adora to not be invited to the hug, give Adora a chance to prove herself and maybe set Adora upon a quest for knowledge, to learn who she really is and where she came from so she can better understand her powers as well.

I think one of the plot threads for next season is likely Adora trying to find out about herself or learn more about the powers of She-ra, thou evenly she will have to confront Shadow Weaver in person I suspect for truths about her origins.

That was basically true in the original too. It was a rotating cast of weird magic chicks...

... and Bow, who as you note here (apparently in contradiction to your actual argument I think?) is also just a normal dude.

Normal, define normal in a world where a forest is always changing, a girl who can teleport, another whose hair can move and do stuff, a world where a girl takes up a sword and transforms into a 8 foot woman in a cape, seemingly magical crystals are capable of changing the world, and there are two forces seemingly run by a bunch of idiots, so what is normal in this world? Not to mention a cat girl who was a cadet in a matter of days rose up to become second in command of one of those two forces, so normal is kind of, out of the window, here!!

Okay, then I think I understand your point even less.

There are some superhuman people, there are some regularhuman people. I don't see anything inherent to the new show's universe that immediately discounts the possibility of Adora being a regularhuman who secretly moonlights as a superhuman person. Again, the change from Netflix Adora to She-Ra would make the secret identity angle much, much more credible here than it was in the Filmation days.

Also again, they made a great show and I respect the decisions they made around their deviations, but this is the one that undermined my personal ability to feel like I was watching a show about She-Ra. I'm pretty happy to be able to watch this show about That New She-Ra though, I don't want to sound like I'm just relentlessly bashing them.

I dig the lack of secret indentity, partly because I think it's fun to see Adora be so casual with the powers. I think one of the most intriguing things you can do with the fantastical is what happens when it crashes into reality.

It being secret worked in the 80s partly because it was a world where kids didn't have much voice. So many toys back then had the meta context of "There's an incredible world right under the adults noses, but you know better". Now, the internet makes it easier for young people to have a voice. We have young people organising and challenging the likes of NRA where adults won't. So it makes sense that the She-Ra of this era is likewise open about her identity. Even in show, the war is a problem the cast inherited from their parents.

Part of what bothers me about it is that it puts us in this place where everyone knows the whole deal, and so it's just... Horde, get that sword and do away with it. Catra just gives it back? I think Shadow Weaver would have been smart enough to keep it somewhere more secure. Alternatively, just shoot the broad in the back before she hulks out. I feel like we're swapping one Everyone Is Stupid for a different Everyone Is Stupid. But that's kiddy shows for you.

And of course this is, far more than the original obviously, a show about Adora and not a show about She-Ra. This change unfolds out of that shift pretty tidily.

The difference between She-ra and the other princesses seems less significant here.  The other princesses are stronger and She-ra (while still very powerful) not as powerful by comparison.

Adora herself is also a very capable warrior and might likely be able to best just about anyone in an altercation.

So the change to She-ra doesn't seem as grand of a power boost as it did in the original series.

Kind of more like Aang going from normal Airbender to the avatar state, not like Bruce Banner changing into the Hulk.

Also, keep in mind that there was a span of time where the Horde knew She-Ra existed, but didn't know Adora was her, or even that Adora had switched sides rather than being captured.  She took advantage of the passive effect of people not EXPECTING a dual identity.

Five only just started, finally watching the show and am on ep4. It was going pretty ok but ep4 with Perfuma took at down turn in animation, aw.

Checked out Secret of the Sword and saw that original Glimmer did have teleportation powers.

I thought I'd hate Catra but her story so far was sometimes for interesting that Adora's.

And Bow was totally suppose to say 'Hey girlfriend' instead of 'hey Glimmer' in the first episode.
