Technically we are all literally dying to play with our next figure.

@  Nevermore : (02 January 2021 - 06:35 AM)

Sunday evenings are awesome. Looking at the clock at 8 PM and thinking "I still have plenty of time before going to bed..."

@  Nevermore : (02 January 2021 - 06:33 AM)

Now I've been working permanent late shift for almost three years. Don't regret it one bit. One of the rare cases where the needs of the company overlap with my own preferences.

@  Nevermore : (02 January 2021 - 06:32 AM)

Before the permanent late shift was introduced three years ago (which I volunteered for as soon as the form became available), I always tended to plan my vacation for early shift weeks. Since the majority of the people in most departments prefer to work early shift and thus tended to plan their vacation for late shift weeks, there were usually enough slots available for me to get my request fulfilled.

@  TM2-Megatron : (01 January 2021 - 05:26 PM)

I was promoted last December, so this past year is my first with the company where I've been able to get whatever vacation I wanted. Instead of competing with 100 other people, there's now only 1 (out of 3 others who share my job) that's been in the building longer than me, and so has first dibs at weeks. It's pretty easy to work it out between ourselves before we give in our requests, though

@  TM2-Megatron : (01 January 2021 - 05:24 PM)

But there's also departments to consider, since we have a varieity of types of machines and not everyone is qualified to run everything. Altogether, there are a lot of ways you can get screwed

@  TM2-Megatron : (01 January 2021 - 05:21 PM)

So a few of the same rules, a few different ones. For regular employees, requests need to be in by January 15th. If they are, those are doled out based on seniority. You're only guaranteed 2 weeks in "prime time" (basically June, July, August). Anything submitted after January 15th is given out first come, first served based on availability

@  SHIELD Agent 47 : (01 January 2021 - 02:39 PM)

So who said "Jumanji!"?

@  TheMightyMol... : (01 January 2021 - 08:20 AM)

I knew a woman at Target who was forced to use up her vacation time before she could qualify for maternity leave. Then they denied the leave because she technically hadn't been at work for two weeks beforehand.

@  Nevermore : (01 January 2021 - 04:21 AM)

Also, if you become sick during your vacation and you turn in a doctor's sick note, it means that you don't lose your vacation days, because according to the law, vacation is intended for recreation, not for recovery from sickness or injury.

@  Nevermore : (01 January 2021 - 04:00 AM)

Another priority is "vacation request for the next year turned in before the deadline". Like, you missed the deadline, you have to make do with what's left.

@  Nevermore : (01 January 2021 - 03:59 AM)

No, they prioritize vacation during school holidays for employees with school-age children. Also, only three of the six weeks during the summer holidays per employee so a larger number of employees can get their requests fulfilled.

@  TM2-Megatron : (31 December 2020 - 08:14 PM)

like, not company-wide, obviously, but by facility

@  TM2-Megatron : (31 December 2020 - 08:14 PM)

That's actually not bad at all for such a large company. Do they prioritize vacation by seniority?

Me and my Brother both just got a Walmart email this morning "Due to high demand your order has been delayed." On the Blaster reissue.

-ZacWilliam, we preordered it immediately upon it going up, not that that really matters with Walmart.

I'm trying to think what it would take to get me excited about a Soundblaster (who I generally care nothing about) rerelease. I think any Cassette that hadn't already got a rerelease would do it.

-ZacWilliam, extra points maybe for a new cassette repaint character but that's probably pretty unlikely. Ratbat I could see. Slugfest and Overkill would be cooler.

Slugfest and Overkill got rereleases in Japan in 2009. Now, Squawktalk and Beastbox would get me excited....

Here's a question for the group; how accepting would we be of 84/85 G1 reissues that were totally made of plastic to keep the costs down? So if there were no diecast, but the price would be reduced by, say, 50% as a result, would that be something we would be happy with?

After all, most of the 86 and over TF's had little to no diecast at all, so would it really be so bad? If you really wanted one that had diecast you could always track down a vintage or older reissue if it was really that important to you.

IIRC Diecast metal uses a different kind of mold than plastic parts. They would have to make all new molds for the replaced parts. Likely you wouldn't lower costs enough to notice the difference.

-ZacWilliam, and if you were making new molds already... I mean the Glacialord toys are some of my favorite modern toys ever, so clearly I'm up for new toys in a retro style but I'm not sure how many other folks are. (I would buy new G1 style cassettes for literally ever)

Practical difficulties aside, I kinda feel like de-diecasted reissues of early G1 toys are a concept that has "who is this for?" problems in this day and age.  We get a new G1 Prowl every five minutes now.  A reissue Prowl has to sell on the strength of "but this is the original-original!" and any significant change is going to detract from that.

Yes I know it's broken. It's an HTTPS thing and I haven't gotten around to dealing with it yet.

On the one hand, I think its nice to have reissues for fans who want to experience those original figures and dont have them already. On the other hand, as a long-time collector, I either already have, or cant afford the G1 reissues I want. And, honestly, for most characters, there are modern figures that are cheaper and do G1 better.

Honestly, if its going to involve creating new molds, Id rather Hasbro put the money into something new, either new previously unproduced figures or a different scale to cover a different niche.

Yeah, Im pretty sure new $100,000 molds or whatever would offset whatever non-metal firing and shipping savings there might of been.

Hell, they might even have to cost MORE.

Opinions will no doubt vary widely.  We also have to stipulate that we can't just put plastic in molds intended for metal, so new molds would have to be created, which would no doubt negate any cost savings (at least for the first all-plastic run).

That said, I've always been opposed to die cast. It's brittle and doesn't hold up to punishment as well as plastic. I love the original Transformers in spite of their die cast content, not because of it.

Walmart shelf tag found for... "G1 Soundblaster"?

In my Walmart order history, the title for Blaster is "Transformers-hasbro Tf G1 Soundblaster", so it's likely just the Blaster reissue we already know about.

But for only $29.84? I mean, Soundwave was $50 and Blaster's much bigger, so shouldn't he be more expensive?

Yeah, I thought his price was a mistake, but he's held steady ever since he showed up online.

While bigger, he's all plastic so maybe that makes the difference? Or Wal-mart has gotten tired of watching every single reissue sit on the shelf for months and months until they mark them down.

I walk in to Walmart this morning before work to get kleenex and what do I see on the shelf?  Reissue Blaster.
