@  Pennpenn : (21 March 2019 - 02:16 AM)

To be honest they did ignore big chunks of the stuff from the movie. Also never had the balls to portray Jesus as a rogue Goa'uld (yeah yeah I know shut up).

@  Echowarrior : (20 March 2019 - 08:57 PM)

The original Stargate movie was okay for what it was. SG1 was a decent show that probably lasted too long. Atlantis was a decent show that could've lasted a little longer. Universe...gah. There were exactly two characters on that show that I liked, and neither was enough to help it in my mind.

@  Xellos : (20 March 2019 - 04:05 PM)

I got into SG1 right as season 8 ended. The Stargates were the last shows that I would make sure to watch every week. Since Universe ended, I really have not been addicted to any live action series.

@  wonko the sane? : (20 March 2019 - 03:12 PM)

The concept of the film had enormous potential, and the rest was literally writers one upping each other when they didn't know if they were going to get renewed.

@  TM2-Megatron : (20 March 2019 - 02:40 PM)

Haven't got as far as Universe yet, but I finished SG-1 on Prime last week and I'm part of the way through Atlantis, now. Amazing how long it went on, just based off a single film

@  Maximus Ambus : (20 March 2019 - 02:36 PM)

Teal'c PI never happened but Teengate did.

@  Cybersnark : (20 March 2019 - 02:33 PM)

Indeed.

@  wonko the sane? : (20 March 2019 - 01:56 PM)

Yeah, SG1 is fairly and uniformely good throught out it's entire run. Atlantis isn't quite as good, but has quite a few good episodes, and universe wasn't a bad take on the more dramatic and outlandish aspects of the universe.

@  TM2-Megatron : (20 March 2019 - 01:31 PM)

Man, I should've watched the Stargate TV shows years ago; they're a lot better than I ever expected

@  TM2-Megatron : (19 March 2019 - 06:09 PM)

Well, if the merchant benefited from it there's no harm, I guess. Some people just aren't comfortable dealing with foreign currencies; although admittedly those usually aren't the types who'll go to a place like Estonia.

@  SHIELD Agent 47 : (19 March 2019 - 05:51 PM)

I gather this was an ad hoc sale with no machine around. Or the U.S.-Americans in this story were so entitled they didn't bother getting any euros for their trip. One hears about the latter phenomenon often enough.

@  TM2-Megatron : (19 March 2019 - 05:46 PM)

Easier to just use a credit card with no foreign currency conversion fee. There are plenty to choose from in the US

@  SHIELD Agent 47 : (19 March 2019 - 05:40 PM)

Joke's on them because the USD-EUR exchange rate gave him a lot more.

@  SHIELD Agent 47 : (19 March 2019 - 05:39 PM)

Just read an anecdote on Facebook from an Estonian guy who once accepted U.S. dollars on par from some 'Mericans who didn't change their currency when traveling to another country.

Welp we just wrapped up a 32 team round robin race to destruction and we'd like to hear what everyone thought. What did you enjoy, what can we do better next year, ideas, and so on.

Tell us what you think and we'll plan to see you all back in very late summer/early fall with Survivor: Dinobot Island!

Honestly, I thought the theme and character choices were pretty weak. There was no real rhyme or rhythm to them other than "what did the staff think would be funny", and the "race" aspect didn't really come across that well.

I like how ties were handled this year. The endless feud between Sideways and Cogman became a sort of game within a game.

Credit SoS for the tiebreaker call as my gut reaction was to do boring revotes. He was very much right.

Sorry you didn't enjoy it this year Broadside. Not to go too deep into this but I felt like we were in a tough spot where a mostly entirely new creative team was forced to follow up three consecutive MM's where the official properties made the direction perfect and obvious (combiners, Masters with the mass return of headmasters to the brand, tying in with the major IDW event) and we felt strongly that doing so again (something all Primes) would have been a bust. We decided to go with a broad range concept and make our innovation the enhanced characterization and in match storytelling. Which was not perfect and we did our best with.

I'll be critical to myself and say that March Mayhem 5 will probably be better if I don't have to write 15/32 bios and all of the fight intros (though Copper Bezel killed it on the bonus rounds though) because I realize my writing style is take it or leave it. But that's why we're getting ready to do another hiring initiative for the staff and get some new blood into the mix as we move towards doing more of these events each year.

Thanks everyone for any feedback, don't hold back. Whether you loved it or hated it.

I agree with Broadside that the team choices felt a bit weakly themed and random. The theme of a race or demolition derby (which was it, exactly?) could've been stronger but I'm also used to the brackets being vague in general, so that doesn't bother me as much. It's usually not specifically "who would win in a fight" or "which character do you like more" or such, it's left up to the voters, which is how it should be IMO (I'll always point to the GameFAQs character battles as the shining example of these).

I'm not a fan of including non-Transformer characters either, to be blunt. And recognizing that I'm probably in the extreme minority on this one, but overall I'm not a fan of wackyness/randomness as a built-in theme. Let that come naturally from upsets or other results (like the eternal Sideways/Cogman tie). Baking it in from the get-go with stuff like Salt-Man Z and Steven Universe vs. Tracks and Rick & Morty goes too far the other direction. Maybe we'll never really get more than 50 people voting, but to me it'd be interesting to do something a bit more 'scientific' or census-y, such as a bracket full of every non-show Beast Wars character. Or every Decepticon leader, or every version of Optimus Prime, etc. Just sorta get the pulse of the fandom on stuff like that. Which is probably why my favorite one was the first (combiners) since it was a strong category that I was interested in seeing the results of.

I agree and disagree with some of the sentiment on team choices. Some felt entirely random and I didn't care for the 100% non TF characters getting added in. Left me wondering whose whims were being invoked for those choices to get added in. On the other end, some were surprisingly perfect. I liked a few of the out there choices like adding Salt Man-Z and doing his whole bio in Spanish. A few of the battles wound up a bit memorable due to these disparate choices. I'm okay with scratching my head at a few choices when I feel like the team did a good job of including way more than just G1 and including some of the lesser known parts of G1.

The other major concern brought up was the race theme or or more of the lack of follow through on that. Fighting could have been kept in line with the theme due to a demolition derby type narration which would have separated it from the fights of previous years. Some of the characters were perfect for a race theme considering some literally participated in races in their continuities. Still, it felt more of a (majorly) missed opportunity than outright bad.

Actually, I do have an aside for March Mayhem but not for this particular showing. Rather, it's about archiving after the polls are over. Currently, The Space Bridge is like this:

Friends of The Allspark
  • Unicron.com Forum
  • Dave's Allspark Branch Office
Allspark March Mayhem II
Allspark March Mayhem
Chronicles Of Cybertron Archive
Big Post Archive

I think it would be more organized and a better usage of screen space if it was like this:

I think the Primes thing could have been fun, pairing a Prime Master with a different Transformer and having them duke it out. Maybe include OP, Rodimus, and Primal to round it out.

It would be smaller, but that's not always worse.

I just wish I'd gotten to vote in the first round or two.

See, I don't mind non-Transformers taking part, but I think they need to have some sort of connection to the franchise. Joes and MASK are one thing, but Rick and Morty and Steven Universe were too random.

Also, Wheelimus, it was an admirable effort to put out all the writing you did in the amount of time you did. That being said, as constructive criticism, I think you want someone to do an edit of it for grammar, style and readability before it gets posted. It was rough around the edges.

Agreed for emphasis.

(I'm fine with non-Transformers who come from the Transformers franchise being used as partners, as was the case with Verity, but all participants should be Transformers-franchise characters.)

Good old fashioned disinterest, yay!

I also wonder if some people see it as diluting magical toy creation power outside of any thoughts of diluting the theme.

As far as next year, I'd argue in favor of fewer teams if the staff is attempting full five bot teams. It would leave more breathing room for planning and fiction unless you really feel you can handle the workload.

Seems to me the burden of proof (if that's really the right way to put this) should be on "why should we include non-TF-franchise characters?" This is a TF board. We do TF stuff here.

Oh, that's a good point, I think we do now have this well-established "MM leads to toy" feeling hanging around and it probably does colour how some people view the event.

Personally I went into it this year resigned to the fact that we would not recapture that magic again, but fingers crossed! Sad to break the streak.

We have a new Starscream. I'll be really shocked if Thundercracker and Skywarp don't follow at some point as they have most every other time. If so streak lives.

I don't think we really need another Marissa Fairborn toy and sorry, my predecessors didn't leave instructions on how many virgins I'd have to sacrifice to which totem to get a Buster toy.

I don't know if we're going to get both Thundercracker and Skywarp from PotP Starscream, considering we don't always get all three (I think RiD15 lacked Thundercracker and Studio Series lacked Skywarp), Hasbro shifting things, and PotP Starscream having moderate unpopularity. Also, I really do feel like for it to be part of the streak (if it was ever an actual thing), it would include Buster and Marissa and/or they would be released separately but in close proximity.
