@  Pennpenn : (21 March 2019 - 02:16 AM)

To be honest they did ignore big chunks of the stuff from the movie. Also never had the balls to portray Jesus as a rogue Goa'uld (yeah yeah I know shut up).

@  Echowarrior : (20 March 2019 - 08:57 PM)

The original Stargate movie was okay for what it was. SG1 was a decent show that probably lasted too long. Atlantis was a decent show that could've lasted a little longer. Universe...gah. There were exactly two characters on that show that I liked, and neither was enough to help it in my mind.

@  Xellos : (20 March 2019 - 04:05 PM)

I got into SG1 right as season 8 ended. The Stargates were the last shows that I would make sure to watch every week. Since Universe ended, I really have not been addicted to any live action series.

@  wonko the sane? : (20 March 2019 - 03:12 PM)

The concept of the film had enormous potential, and the rest was literally writers one upping each other when they didn't know if they were going to get renewed.

@  TM2-Megatron : (20 March 2019 - 02:40 PM)

Haven't got as far as Universe yet, but I finished SG-1 on Prime last week and I'm part of the way through Atlantis, now. Amazing how long it went on, just based off a single film

@  Maximus Ambus : (20 March 2019 - 02:36 PM)

Teal'c PI never happened but Teengate did.

@  Cybersnark : (20 March 2019 - 02:33 PM)

Indeed.

@  wonko the sane? : (20 March 2019 - 01:56 PM)

Yeah, SG1 is fairly and uniformely good throught out it's entire run. Atlantis isn't quite as good, but has quite a few good episodes, and universe wasn't a bad take on the more dramatic and outlandish aspects of the universe.

@  TM2-Megatron : (20 March 2019 - 01:31 PM)

Man, I should've watched the Stargate TV shows years ago; they're a lot better than I ever expected

@  TM2-Megatron : (19 March 2019 - 06:09 PM)

Well, if the merchant benefited from it there's no harm, I guess. Some people just aren't comfortable dealing with foreign currencies; although admittedly those usually aren't the types who'll go to a place like Estonia.

@  SHIELD Agent 47 : (19 March 2019 - 05:51 PM)

I gather this was an ad hoc sale with no machine around. Or the U.S.-Americans in this story were so entitled they didn't bother getting any euros for their trip. One hears about the latter phenomenon often enough.

@  TM2-Megatron : (19 March 2019 - 05:46 PM)

Easier to just use a credit card with no foreign currency conversion fee. There are plenty to choose from in the US

@  SHIELD Agent 47 : (19 March 2019 - 05:40 PM)

Joke's on them because the USD-EUR exchange rate gave him a lot more.

@  SHIELD Agent 47 : (19 March 2019 - 05:39 PM)

Just read an anecdote on Facebook from an Estonian guy who once accepted U.S. dollars on par from some 'Mericans who didn't change their currency when traveling to another country.

Wakfu is a fun little French cartoon trying to masquerade as an anime. It is a show based on a video game that was a spin off of another video game. The story is about his adopted boy named Yugo who lives in a fantasy world and sets off on a journey with his friends to find his real family.

It has beautiful animation. It took me a few episodes to realize that the villain of each episode shows up at the end of the intro like a little preview. Nice touch.

It is an entertaining show, has 65 episodes and a few movies. I never seen a French cartoon before and while it has it's charm I'm noticing this strange level of sexuality about it. It seems less then what would expect from an anime but more so from it's American counter part.

It is nothing bad, just something I wasn't expecting to see in a cartoon. Like Ruel asking Yugo's father about his mother not knowing he was adopted and assuming his father got some girl pregnant and is now raising the kid alone. Or how two of the main character had several kids together and after several years finally decided to get married. Nothing wrong with that, just concepts I didn't expect to come across. It's kinda refreshing actually.

I wanted to show a picture but I thought it might be to sexual so I hide it in spoilers just to make sure...

Overall I think its a good show to watch and recommend it. =)

Glad you're enjoying it! I love this series and think the first season at least is required viewing if you're into little adventure cartoons in the spectrum of Airbender to Steven Universe. It's also just about the best Flash animation I've seen, since they don't treat the software as a crutch for not doing the animation and are animators who just happen to be using Flash. Plus, as main villains for a cartoon of this kind go, Nox is ... pretty damn unique.

I think my favorite character is Rubilax. X ]

Edit: Fan OP / AMV cut to the full version of the opening theme to give a sense of stuffs.

I'm watching the English dubbed one, do you think it would be more enjoyable in French? The voice acting for some of the minor characters seems a bit, well, flat...

I'm not sure if there's a good legal option. So your preferred form of fansub piracy. I haven't seen the dub; the French voice work seems solid enough.

Edit: Ah, wasn't sure that Netflix had the whole thing, good option.

Yeah, I feel like the special state of repression that the US is capable of is unique to the US and inimitable. Like, there's plenty of stuff out there in the world that can be wholesome and largely sexless, but only in the US have we perfected the taboo inventory for drizzling everything with sex and yet being unable to speak its name....

America is famous for it's less then subtle sexual innuendo in it's cartoons. Like they really want to put a sexual joke in their cartoons and then pretend that they didn't happen. Wakfu feels like it is more accepted in the world and sprinkled into the show and acknowledge it rafter then one big, obnoxious flash.

Yeah, and that's just characteristic of US vs. European media as a whole. In the US, you think you're getting away with something if you make a sex joke. The rest of the world aren't permanently 13.

I'd heard of the KS to dub it but only long after it was a thing. I assume that's the dub that Netflix is using as well? I didn't realize until looking now that the KS and the Netflix deal happened in the same year.

Way, way back in the early aughts, during my first time through college, I had a course on video games where the professor had us play a game called Dofus to teach us about MMORPGs. That game apparently was the predecessor to the game version of Wakfu. Kind of neat to see how far it's come.

Its interesting to note that in the first episode they talk about Wakfu but don't explain what it is. I tried looking up what is Wakfu but all I got was desprictions of the show or game. Fortunately I played the actual game for a bit to learn what it is. It is a special type of energy used to limit special abilities. It is different from mana and stamina which are also types of resources. I'm on like the tenth episode of season one and they haven't mentioned it since episode one. Despite it being the namesake of both the game and show, it doesn't seem to be a big part of the world they live in.

Its an strange and fascinating development...

In the cartoon I think it's 100% just the universe's version of mana, dust, etc., a basically fungible magical energy produced by living things. Considering that the cartoon seemed to get its name from the game, I'd kinda hoped there was at least some logic to why that was the name of the game in the first place. X ] Not to say that it's not a major element of the first season plot, but....

If you guys DO get into the cartoon, try to watch the third season at least on Netflix (coming in April, I guess).

The guy behind this wants 2 more seasons and Netflix may play a big part of when and if we get them.  Spoilers for season 3 in the link!

https://www.reddit.c...ason_3_and_the/

(The original French version DOES feel a bit more charming, though.  There's something about French that makes things seem just a little bit cuter, for some reason.  And we probably won't see a "season 5" until sometime in the 2030's, but anything might help.  :p )

Also, I've seen the Dofus cartoon (and it's movie)...it's a different beast than Wakfu.  Each episode is shorter and it's more comedy focused.  I'd probably say it'd be best to watch it between Season 2 and the OVA (since characters from Dofus start making more of an impact in the OVA and Season 3.   And it gives us a "origin" for one of the characters in Wakfu.) if you do decide to track it down.  It doesn't make the biggest difference if you decide to never watch it, though.  You might be a little confused who some of these characters are, though (of course, later seasons reference stuff from the games and comics, too, so that might be a problem, anyway).

That's really intriguing. The idea of picking up with more is kinda fascinating tbh. I think of this as a tragically overlooked series from last decade. The idea that it is instead a still-active property is taking a bit to set in for me.

Well, the MMO's are still active.  And they're working on a third MMO ("Dofus Cube") that'll...probably be taking place AFTER whatever seasons 4 and 5 bring?  Maybe?  It's unclear. (I've never played the MMOs...and probably won't.  MMOs just aren't my thing)

But, yeah, the franchise is still alive...it's just happening VERY slowly.   PAINFULLY SLOWLY.

(Much like a lot of French comics.  You might get lucky to see one volume a year.  Like Ekho.  French stuff in general usually does have REALLY nice art, but MAN do they take their time.)
