x-x when in vehicle mode we can travel much F A R T H E R-

@  wonko the sane? : (30 June 2020 - 05:52 PM)

Because despite the fact that we can travel around the world in the time it takes to get a good nights sleep and a couple of meals: people rarely wander more than 25 miles away from home for the duration of their lives.

@  Otaku : (30 June 2020 - 05:49 PM)

I don't know how many days that trip takes - especially while sightseeing - but explaining they're 3936 kilometers (2445 miles) apart gives an idea, paradoxically because it is too large to easily picture.

@  Otaku : (30 June 2020 - 05:44 PM)

Aye.  When I catch lay people discussing miles and not how long the trip takes, it is in an attempt to stress how far away something is... like NYC to LA.

@  ▲ndrusi : (30 June 2020 - 01:20 PM)

But I can imagine 45 *minutes* easily.

@  ▲ndrusi : (30 June 2020 - 01:20 PM)

I can imagine a mile, it's a distance I've run. I can't really imagine 45 miles.

@  ▲ndrusi : (30 June 2020 - 01:19 PM)

I think there's also an element of the thing where things that are much bigger than us all blur together.

@  Otaku : (30 June 2020 - 11:49 AM)

If you're not, then you're more concerned with how long it takes.  Actual distance doesn't tell you that very well.  Besides traffic and road conditions, you'll need to know what kind of driving (city/interstate/rural/etc.).

@  Otaku : (30 June 2020 - 11:47 AM)

Distance matters if you're being paid by the mile.

@  TM2-Megatron : (30 June 2020 - 11:44 AM)

Canadians are the same way, for the most part. If you're driving somewhere far, especially, it helps you plan out the day more than a distance in KM would.

@  Otaku : (30 June 2020 - 11:42 AM)

We use the time it takes to get someplace because that is what is relevant to us.

@  TheMightyMol... : (30 June 2020 - 10:55 AM)

Because even we can't figure out miles half the time.

@  Paladin : (30 June 2020 - 09:54 AM)

it's a big country with a lot of empty space. between our citizens' ears.

@  Bass X0 : (30 June 2020 - 09:52 AM)

Why do most Americans measure distance by hours of driving?

@  TM2-Megatron : (29 June 2020 - 07:26 PM)

And as a result the world's lone blu-ray release of the film, an Australian disc that came out 7 years ago, now goes for hundreds of dollars on eBay. Thanks Disney.

@  TM2-Megatron : (29 June 2020 - 06:21 PM)

Well, they censored Daryl Hannah's butt in Splash :rolleyes

@  Paladin : (29 June 2020 - 05:43 PM)

@  Steevy Maximus : (29 June 2020 - 05:00 PM)

X-Men films are coming to Disney+ next month. But will they censor Hugh Jackman's butt?

@  TheMightyMol... : (29 June 2020 - 11:59 AM)

Behold! Night Strike Galvatron!

@  Bass X0 : (29 June 2020 - 09:53 AM)

I will grant you a recolored body, and recolored troops to command.

@  Cybersnark : (29 June 2020 - 09:47 AM)

I don't want to be reissued. This body sucks, I wanna be updated.

@  Nevermore : (29 June 2020 - 09:43 AM)

I definitely don't intend to be reissued. Nobody would buy me.

@  Bass X0 : (29 June 2020 - 08:31 AM)

will anybody else attempt to be reissued?

@  wonko the sane? : (29 June 2020 - 07:51 AM)

*Gasp* Decepticons re-writing history to serve their own needs?!?!

@  Nevermore : (29 June 2020 - 05:48 AM)

The whole point of the DJD is that they're fanatical Megatron fanboys (especially Tarn) to the point of having their own headcanon taking priority of the actual canon, simply speaking.

@  TheMightyMol... : (29 June 2020 - 04:01 AM)

They didn't know the war was over until later. And then they denied it anyway.

@  PlutoniumBoss : (28 June 2020 - 10:47 PM)

"He's comin' right for us!"

@  Telly : (28 June 2020 - 08:40 PM)

was that even still in effect once the war ended?

@  TheMightyMol... : (28 June 2020 - 06:51 PM)

According to Roberts, soldiers can ignore the order to spare Whirl if he's directly threatening them. But mostly the DJD were out of their heads on Nuke and not really caring much at the time.

I thought it might be a good idea to have a separate thread for this, since the Personal Canon thread doesn't really seem suited to it. Tell everyone about your original characters, either from your own stories or to slot into the background of an existing continuity!

To start things off, here's some of mine: the Field Support Patrol, a Decepticon Micromaster team who fit into nebulous late-G1 continuity.

  • Detonator: The team's leader and EOD expert, who transforms into a mine flail. She's brave, compassionate and charismatic, and would be the ideal Autobot hero if she wasn't a Decepticon. How she reconciles her heroism with her bosses' maniacal supervillain plans is a mystery.
  • Sigint: A radar van serving as a communications specialist and transmissions monitor, Sigint is... overly twitchy, and she tends to advocate immediate and drastic response to pretty much everything, exaggerating potential dangers to anyone who will listen.
  • Red-X: A military ambulance, veteran field medic and complete grouch who resents having to do her actual job, getting mad at patients for getting themselves hurt. That said, she's basically unfazed by everything, and can work under ridiculous pressure with shells falling around her.
  • Overreach: An egotistical braggart who turns into a bridge-layer and constantly overestimates her own capabilities. She's almost fallen down crevasses trying to stretch over too-wide gaps before, and tends to be smug and disdainful of others even after failing to live up to her own hype.

What characters have the rest of you come up with?

My character is named Shin Shadow Sephiroth X. He looks like Sonic the Hedgehog wearing Megaman armor, and he is a vampire who loves Jesus.

well then the real one seriously needs to stand up.

"Disabled people donít have special needs. We have very reasonable human needs. Our needs include freedom from abuse, violence, and mistreatment, the right to autonomy and self-direction, the right to represent ourselves, equal opportunity for education and employment, the right to accommodation, and societal inclusion and acceptance.

The need for accommodation isnít a ďspecial needĒ. Itís a basic human right. Itís a leveling of the playing field that allows us the same opportunities and chances as non-disabled people."

A long time ago I came up with a Decepticon OC named Pinion; he came to Earth in the 1930s looking for the Nemesis, but lost his memory in a crash. In his confusion, he scanned a passing steam locomotive, and took up residence in the New York Central railroad; even after he recovered his memories, he decided that he liked his new life too much to go back to being a Decepticon.

I mainly come up with fanchars to repurpose toys into.

(body: Armada Side Swipe)
Autobot technician. Seems perpetually stoned, only speaks in one-syllable sentences ("Yeah." "'Kay." "Whoa." "Nah."). No one is entirely sure of his motivations --he has no problem interacting with Decepticons, seems equally at home (or out-of-place) on Earth or Cybertron, and doesn't seem to have any real ambition. He's very, very good with computer systems, so the Autobots are glad to have him, even if he is a little odd.

(body: Cybertron Downshift)
Autobot historian. Has been stuck in the 1970s since 4 million BC (robot mode includes sideburns, an open collar, and a big gold medallion). His particular area of study is the beginning of the Great War, which in turn led to his interest in Earth and its role in modern Cybertronian history. He can usually be found hanging out with Jazz and/or Hound, exploring Earth's culture.

(body: the blue ROTF motorcycle triplet)
Autobot historian. Flashback's specialty is ancient Cybertron. Before the War, she was considered a crank, though Alpha Trion and Orion Pax were aware of her. She disappeared for a few hundred years early in the war, and reappeared with stories of an alien time-traveler in a blue box, and supposed first-hand knowledge of prehistoric Cybertron --knowledge that flies in the face of doctrine about Primus, Unicron, and the Thirteen.

(body: the reddish ROTF motorcycle triplet)
Autobot inventor. A student of Wheeljack. She's easily excitable, and her inventions tend toward the awesome-but-impractical (including the self-returning spear, the gunade, and the Improbably Large Gun [which could, in theory, take out a Metrotitan [size-2]before it catastrophically melts down[/size]]). Despite her technical genius, she's squeamish around cybiology. Along with Flashback, she was summoned to Earth in the hopes of rebuilding the shattered Underbase cube, and ended up conscripted to assist Ratchet with emergency surgery on Optimus when his Matrix needed to be removed.

(body: the purple RotF motorcycle triplet)
Autobot bodyguard. Jaded, cynical, and sarcastic, Deadpan has been assigned to protect Kitbash and Flashback while they work on the Underbase Cube. This mainly means protecting them from themselves, while trying not to go insane. Has considered joining the Decepticons, but has decided that the Autobot weirdos are at least generally quieter than the Decepticon equivalents.

Infecticon Force Reduction STREPTICUS

"The most dangerous fire is the one that spreads from within."

At least outwardly the least pleasant of the extremely unpleasant INFECTICONS. Though his comrades are physically and morally repellent, STREPTICUS has the personality to match. Seemingly incapable of holding a conversation without turning it to the most disgusting topics; delights in recounting his various unsavory misdeeds. Craves the discomfort of others. During battle, often broadcasts the same stories to everyone within sensor range, friend or enemy. Carries a putrefaction cannon that transmutes inorganic materials to rotten protein-based muck. In nanotech disease mode, can afflict any mechanical or organic individual with a variety of painful and debilitating symptoms, including temperature increases, pain, leakage of fluids, even deactivation. Spreads easily from victim to victim through physical contact or even via the air. Often gets too caught up in being awful to make an effective military asset; can easily be distracted from an actual target by a large enough collection of other hosts.

Infecticon Infiltrator HOT ZONE

"Time is the ultimate equalizer."

A mystery to even DECEPTICONS. Remote, patient, cold-blooded. Those interacting with him rarely know if they're talking to the real HOT ZONE or a duplicate. Lays groundwork for plans that may take years or even centuries to unfold. Skilled in information technology, cryptology, electrical engineering. In nanotech disease mode, can lie inside a victim undetectable by nearly any means. Active form causes host to slowly reconfigure into a duplicate of HOT ZONE himself, with all the same traits and powers. Groups of these duplicates make highly effective squads. Sometimes too fixated on the long game to be useful in the short term. Fully-converted victims degrade and deactivate after only a few hours.

Infecticon Leader SPORELOCK

"A mind is a wonderful thing to waste."

Only nominally the INFECTICON leader; in practice, neither holds nor exercises much command. Primary motivation to avoid personal physical labor. Specializes in ruining organic supplies and foodstuffs. Believes that the destruction of enemy materiel is more effective than pitched battle. Superior, refined manner hides cruel nature. In robot mode, wields gas gun that exudes a dizzying, nauseating mist. In nanotech disease mode, spreads easily through the air. Affected victims are placed under SPORELOCK's mental control; can be used to breach security or turn on allies. Thralls can also be detonated to produce an infectious cloud. In practice, thralls usually used to personally attend SPORELOCK. Physically weak.

OMG, I could probably fill a thread of my own... I've even written Tech Specs & Bios, a few of which I've re-written, since the originals were done by a 12-year-old. 8^)

My first OC was probably Bloodshot. Originally, a slightly-customized copy of Laserbeak. (When I got an extra when a friend and I split a pack 'cause he wanted Frenzy.) I'm probably going to use Booster X-10 for him nowadays. And, yeah, his weapon description does crib off Laserbeak some.

Autobot              Bloodshot              Function: Warrior

"What the heck!"

When you first meet Bloodshot, he seems shy and reserved. It's only when he flies off into battle that he reveals his true nature as a raving lunatic. He goes into battle with his ruby-filtered laser cannons firing almost constantly. This, unfortunately, sometimes causes as much damage to his fellow AUTOBOTS as to enemy DECEPTICONS. He tries to not be so careless, but Bloodshot just seems to be incapable of thinking clearly in a combat situation.

I once found a knock-off based on the G1 Deluxe Insecticon Barrage where they replaced the wings/carapace back, and turned it into a ladybug. I bought it and made it into an Autobot. He's always been one of my favorites.

Insect-Bot              Carniveron              Function: Internal Saboteur

"He's got a bug...namely me."

Carniveron has neither great physical power nor great firepower, but is considered one of the most dangerous of the AUTOBOTS. Using his ability to shrink to the size of a ladybug (in insect form or otherwise) he flies around the battlefield looking for DECEPTICONS with battle damage. If their armor has been breached, he goes inside the Decepticon's body and uses his Electro-Disruptor Rifle and time-delay bombs to wreak havok on his victim's inner workings. Fortunately, he is also preturnaturally durable--Carniveron has been known to survive the explosions that reduce his victims to scrap with nothing more than a scortch mark.

Jumping forward to my most recent OC... Didn't want to use "Laser Prime" from the Titans Return box set as Optimus Prime, so I slapped the "Rodimus Prime" Titan Master on him (which I think I posted a pic of in the pics thread, can also be found here) and made him into a new character.

Autobot Diesel Function: Fueler
"Not bombs, nor missiles, nor blaster fire, nor cold of space will keep me from my appointed rounds."
DIESEL isn't especially strong, fast, or smart, but has a work ethic like you wouldn't believe. Will wade into the messiest battlefield to bring much-needed fuel supplies to the front-line combatants. Is well-liked, and others thing highly of him, but considers himself just your average, hard-working 'bot. Binary-bonded to Slick, a former hazardous-waste cleanup crewman, who keeps Diesel's systems clean and functioning at peak efficiency.

I made several Transformers for a comic I've been wanting to make but the closest to a personal OC would be

Wire Transfer.

He's a minicon who transforms into a piggy bank. Body based on Dead End or the moon minicon of Armada Unicron. He's small at an action figure size so he moves around by a wire line (like the Sky Commanders tv show). He has a subspace pocket slot so he can store the coins his owner keeps putting in the bank.

His comic story is that his little girl owner keeps saying her piggy bank moves around but she knows it's not evil. Wire Transfer tries to stay hidden but regularly communicates with Decepticons (or Autobots. I wasn't sure yet.). The little girl was left alone in her place and a burglar breaks in. When he threatened the kid, Wire Transfer falls off a high place and bonks him on the head in piggy bank form. Little girl takes it in stride because she knew her bank is a good guy and just doing his job because he's a 'savings bank'.

Man, I drew him before. Should find it and scan it.

Phoenix (no relation to the Masterforce Pretender) was originally a Thundercracker that I painted silver and red... and totally didn't realize that made him look almost just like Starscream until I was done. (Honest!) These days, I'm using the Generations T30 Armada Starscream for him.

Decepticon              Phoenix              Function: Special Operations Sergeant
"An army is only as good as its commander."
Once the Commander-In-Chief of a remote Decepticon colony, PHOENIX is an invaluable part of the Decepticon command structure. Some of this Renaissance Mech's talents include: medicine/repair, strategy, and marksmanship. When not leading troops into battle, he helps hone said troops skills by providing intensive training for the best and brightest. Wields a pair of energo-swords in robot mode, and two high-powered ion pulse cannons in robot and fighter jet modes.

Up to a certain age, all my OCs were just obnoxious, thinly-veiled self-inserts that were mostly Hot Rod in black and such.

Then I abandoned that and started just coming up with new names for repurposed toys.

Virtually every custom as good as the title suggests!
