@  wonko the sane? : (04 August 2020 - 11:37 AM)

It's almost like all drama is just manufactured pissing contests to keep us all entertained and distracted. :p

@  Tm_Silverclaw : (04 August 2020 - 10:16 AM)

Or they could go White Ranger vs Scorpion route and have both win. ;P

@  ▲ndrusi : (04 August 2020 - 09:35 AM)

Besides, we all know the answer is nearly always "they fight to a standstill and then team up against a common enemy."

@  ▲ndrusi : (04 August 2020 - 09:29 AM)

The best way to prove this is to give an example where the match is really lopsided in favor of one character but in popularity they're either evenly matched or the weaker one is more popular.

@  ▲ndrusi : (04 August 2020 - 09:27 AM)

The "who would win in a fight" discussions are really just people trying to make "which one's better" into something you can theoretically measure objectively, usually in a very specific way they think they've predetermined their favorite will win.

@  Otaku : (04 August 2020 - 02:01 AM)

@Nevermore So... you're saying you didn't like DC Versus Marvel/Marvel Versus DC?

@  Steevy Maximus : (03 August 2020 - 06:59 PM)

So, what happened to Hasbro's Zoids relaunch? An English dub, some stuff in southeast Asia, and now a game coming in October? That it?

@  wonko the sane? : (03 August 2020 - 10:46 AM)

Tidal wave, cause shooting water gets you nowhere.

@  Darth Gonzo : (03 August 2020 - 09:57 AM)

Who would win Tidal Wave or Broadside?

@  -LittleAutob... : (03 August 2020 - 08:17 AM)

Btw Happy birthday to those people in the box to the right \o/

@  -LittleAutob... : (03 August 2020 - 08:16 AM)

The bottom line is obvious. It makes no literal sense to fight someone on your faction. :/

@  wonko the sane? : (03 August 2020 - 06:14 AM)

That's because you're doing it wrong. You're supposed to just stack skills and ability against each other. It's not the palace of doom, it's an episode of american gladiators.

@  Nevermore : (03 August 2020 - 04:32 AM)

The only obvious winners of such a fight would be the bad guys.

@  Nevermore : (03 August 2020 - 04:29 AM)

And what does it even matter? They should work together, not stupidly fight each other for the mindless entertainment of idiot onlookers.

@  Nevermore : (03 August 2020 - 04:29 AM)

Why would two good guys fight each other? What are they fighting over?

@  Nevermore : (03 August 2020 - 04:28 AM)

I never understood these "who would win in a fight between two good guys" discussions. They make no sense to me.

@  Maximus Ambus : (02 August 2020 - 04:17 PM)

If G1 had continued we'd have had Starscream back in spirit - through Krunk, Snapdragons partner and possibly Skullcruncher unless he was mute.

@  Bass X0 : (02 August 2020 - 12:28 PM)

There are some decent impersonators in fandubs though.

@  -LittleAutob... : (02 August 2020 - 10:45 AM)

The only true Starscream voices are Steve Blum and Chris Latta, hands down.

@  Sabrblade : (02 August 2020 - 10:14 AM)

Why they didn't have Scott McNeil voicing that Starscream, when he was the one who had imitated Chris Latta when he voiced Cobra Commander in the DiC G.I. Joe cartoon, is beyond me.

@  wonko the sane? : (02 August 2020 - 09:57 AM)

Look, I just appreciate that he was the best thing Voyager had going for it, that he knows that, that everyone else knows that, and that it's okay for him to tacitly acknowledge that in a self-deprecating homage to another actor. X ]

Also, it's just a damn funny skit and a soaring performance.

Just finished "Demons" and "Terra Prime" two-parter from Enterprise. What a well-written, well-performed endcap to a series. I really wish we could have seen a season 5.

It's too bad those were the last two episodes of Enterprise. Yep.

I've often said the same thing. Granted, imagine what kind of show we could have had if "Demons/Terra Prime" was the pilot instead of the finale.

I am really enjoying Voyager on my rewatch. And while the Doctor is an amazing character, I don't think that he was the best thing about the show.

Janeway - Smarmy and cold

Chakotay - Bland, mildly offensive

Tuvok - Acts like a Vulcan

Harry - Bland and Bland

Tom - Annoying

B'Elanna - Moody and sort of bland

Neelix - More annoying than Tom

Kes - Interesting idea, but turned out boring

Doctor - Usually interesting

Seven - Interesting at first, eventually boring

Being the most interesting thing on Voyager is like winning a free hashbrown in McDonald's Monopoly.  Yay, congratulations.

There is really nothing stopping CBS All Access from making a Romulan War or Early Federeation series now.  They'd need to get a fresh cast, but they could cameo Enterprise characters.

I think that the best part of the show is that these uninteresting individuals have an amazing dynamic between them. For example, the episode where they try to smuggle some long range teleporter technology off of this planet against the captain's wishes, and Tuvok shows up to do the very same thing. Then Janeway will do something incredibly dumb, make a enemy out of the most powerful forces in the area, and someone will have to disobey her to keep the ship from being destroyed.

Honestly, I'm watching Voyager season 5 right now and the show really does turn a corner toward the end of season 3.

Its just, many of the early episodes that should have been spent building up these characters and their connections, dealing with the actual gravity of their predicament and the conflict between star fleet and the maquis weren't spent on that but rather not great Sci fi plots with uninteresting characters. Unlike next gen, where the characters and said interactions make even the worst plots enjoyable to watch, voyager just doesn't make their characters engaging from the beginning. Outside of the Doctor, that is. I actually think Neelix is one of the more interesting characters, whenever they chose to address his past and focus on him. Like, it takes three years to establish most of these characters to the point its fun to watch them go on assorted adventures which just happens to be when the individual stories improve in quality also.

You're making me think that the Star Trek comedy series we deserve is just Voyager with minor script tweaks by someone who gets the joke.

I like McDonald's hashbrowns a lot, but I am a grownup and have a job and have always had $1 available to me to buy one.  I wouldn't mind winning a car some time.

=-=-=

When Voyager was airing I had no concept that DVD boxsets were less than a decade away.  Tapes of 2 episodes of TNG were available for $20 each.  When Voyager started, I had a choir practice at the same time for the first several weeks, so I programmed a VCR to record the show.  By the time we had our concert and I could watch it live, I was inspired by the idea of having the complete series for almost free, so I kept going and dubbed those to another cassette and cut out commercial breaks so I could save the fortune that the tapes would cost one day.  This is how I spent an awful lot of my weekends in college.  Man that's sad.  But sadder still when those DVD boxsets started rolling out.  So I saw every episode of Voyager Season 1-6 twice a few weeks apart and I don't think I've rewatched those ever.  I have definitely never played the tapes I so carefully made.  And I never bought the series on DVD, except season 7.  I was working full time and also going to my last semester of college when season 7 started and I just gave up on it.  I didn't see most of season 7 at all until I bought the DVD set about a decade ago.  It was need to have new Star Trek shows, but I haven't bothered to rewatch any of those.  I think I just kept up with Voyager because I was a Star Trek fan, but I have very few happy memories of the series.

It wasn't until I went full trek on the internet that I realized people didn't like the show like I did. As I watched it live, I thoroughly enjoyed it, but i was in junior high and a total trek junkie and was too busy absorbing everything to view it critically. Which, is honestly the best way to watch any show. Just have fun and enjoy the good.

My main problem watching the earlier seasons currently, in 2020, is I dove in after having finished DS9 for the first time (when it was on air I never really watched it) and going from that sci fi masterpiece to Voyager is just so jarring. Especially after all the stories DS9 gave me about the interworkings of the maquis, and the show that makes them a major plot point essentially forgets everything about them. Voyager's maquis were probably the most docile of all the cells. There's no way Eddington would have just thrown on a starfleet uniform and resumed business as usual. There's a reason that the first character outside of the Doctor that I gravitated towards was Seska. She was the only character that made sense to me, but again, I was probably still riding high on DS9's cynicism, but stranding yourself 70 years from home to save a species you just met after being kidnapped was just the best example of starfleet's optimism going overboard. I was glad Voyager eventually gave us at least one episode about Janeways guilt, that did a lot for me in changing my feelings toward her and that first call. Again, the later voyager seaaons have a bunch of great episodes, its just the show stumbled to get there and figure itself out.

I'm not super keen on having the Human-Romulan War depicted on-screen, if I'm being honest.

Now had Enterprise done it, I'd have no problem with it, it's just that it feels like that conflict needs sufficient, seasons-length build up towards. Enterprise laid the groundwork best it could while being handcuffed to the moronic Temporal Cold War stuff. We'd almost need a whole new Trek season with a roadmap to the Romulan War as it's Season 3-4, or even 3-5 arc and I'm honestly not sure how effective it'd be since it'd be two seasons of retreading ground Enterprise laid. Granted enough time has passed you could get away with that, but Enterprise also isn't difficult to get a hold of.

And that's not assuming putting a series set in the 22nd Century wouldn't cause some show runner, producer, or writer deciding to open up the Pandora's Box that was the Temporal Cold War again.

I actually caught TOS, TNG, and DS9 in syndication (and did New DS9 from season 4 on) and Earth Final Conflict and Babylon 5. I have NEVER watched any of those tapes. But I did buy DVD sets of DS9 and Babylon 5 and watch them that way. :/

I think Enterprise WAS supposed to do that. So you are also assuming you get to MAKE 7 seasons.

The Temporal Cold War makes a lot more sense with the tie-in books.
