EB was still struggling with the net when it dissapeared. He blinked at his now empty hands, then shrugged and got up, offering Howard a hand.
"Who knew nets could be so horrible?"

Howard takes EB's hand and leaps to his feet, shouting "TOUCHDOWN...wait, dat ah nah rite...Goal? Hm...Oh! STRRRRRRIKE THREE!!!!" Having found the proper blurb, he runs circles around the team, waving his arms.

Meanwhile, the PoeT searched the grounds for any signs of the prior apparitions.

 

He said, 

 

"How swiftly our opponents appear and melt away,

 They exist less to harm us and more to cause delay."

 

Then, turning to the glowing light, he continued,

 

"If so, then we should proceed with all due haste,

 For it would only aid our enemy, any time we waste."

Continuing onward, the group found that the path grew narrower and narrower as the light grew brighter. As the trees closed in to make walls, they saw the end...and what was guarding it. Up ahead was a rusty Adapter in the form of a two headed bull standing on it's hind legs. However, instead of forehooves, it had four arms with three fingered hands that it held up in a boxing pose. Sprouting from its back were large wings it held up in a territorial display. Bobbing and weaving, it shouted,

DECLARATION: You won't get your meat back, meatbags!

At the sight of the two-headed boxing bull Adapter, Kage folded his arms and simply stared the thing down.after bug witches, Stalebutter, ‘football’, Abbys sudden appearance and the ‘game’ in general. He still would not have expected this.

What he did next was most likely a futile gesture. Yet he fekt like trying it anyway.

Kage barely finished his sentence before the Adapter hit him with a herculean punch. Roock rushed to catch Kage as he stumbled backward. Oracle helpfully intoned, "I believe this is when you should block, sir" before the Adapter gloated,

"PROVOCATION: I may be outnumbered but you are outmatched, meatbag!"

"That must've hurt." EB blinked at Kage, in Roock's arms. "Hey man, you ok?" EB checked Kage to see if he was still conscious.

Seeing Kage knocked easily aside, the PoeT turned to Howard and cocked his head in the direction of the boasting monstrosity.

 

He said with amusement,

 

"Outclassed, says he, but what wouldst he know?

 What say ye, my friend, shall we give him a proper show?"

 

Here the PoeT turned and he strode forth.  Passing Kage, he tapped his staff sharply upon the ground and flame leapt about him¹, a flurry of sparks whirling about the prostrate Knight, restoring some of his strength².

 

"Come, Omega, t'is no time for rest!

 On thy feet and make no further jest!³"

 

Now standing before the Adapter, the PoeT leveled the ironwood staff toward it and his voice rumbled as an oncoming storm.

 

He said,

 

"A single warning, that is all thou wilt receive:

 Turn back now or of thy life I will relieve⁴."

Kage blinked as fireworks exploded behind his eye and his chest crunched with a horrible metallic splintering sound. Shadows threatened to wash him away as he fought stay conscious, only vaguely aware of the flying backwards, the catching, or his friends words.

Well, until the PoeT spoke.

His words were clear and sharp, carrying with them a strange shock to the system that brought Kage back to full Compus Mentus. Looking up, Kage saw EB and Roock. Kage would have attempted a ‘Thank You’, until the pain hit him!

With a jerk, Kage fell to all fours and groaned. Reaching up to run his fingers across his chestplate, Kage felt only crackled metal and ragged punctures. The Adapters punch had completely smashed in his chestplate. To the point that, Kage was sure, only a single layer of armour had prevented said metal fist from going through him.

“Ooookaaayy... Diplomacy... bad idea...,” he wheezed. Slowly (to him), control returned and the Omega Knight rose again.

“Rook, EB. Thank you... i’m alright... ish...”

Shaking his head sharply, Omega nodded to the PoeT and faced their overzealous opponent.

“I still stand, tin man!”

With a cry of mixed pain and anger, the Omega whirled his Cape around him and let fly with at least six Omegarangs. Slamming home into the metallic monstrosity, the deadly projectiles flared bright white as they detonated in unison.

Dropping to one knee, Kage was breathing heavily as he pushed past his pain and readied for the next attack.

EXASPERATION: Ouch.

The Adapter then exploded. With no more obstacles in the way, the glowing finish line awaited the group.

Kages jaw...dropped. Stunned, he said.

“What... what just happened?”

[Zamuel]

"The Adapter exploded, sir" Oracle replied in a matter-of-fact tone.

EB shrugged, then looked Kage up and down. "You look like crap. Wanna lift?" He motioned to his back, as if he fully expected Kage to hop on.

A weary smile crossed Kages lips as he retracted his Cowl. He then began to chuckle, before wincing sharply.

“Hehehah—ow! Oh, it hurts to laugh.

Trust me, it feels worse than it looks,” he said. Then looked confused. Unclipping Retributions Scabbard from his belt, Kage used to to slowly lever himself into a standing position.

“Don’t worry though, i’ll be fine, just... that punched me hard enough to nearly break my heart, literally. Yet it had hardly any defence. I just seems... odd.

‘sigh’

I think i need more training, Oracle. Or common sense. Or... something.”

Looking around at his friends and the light before them.

“The end is clear and, if nothing else, this crazy game has certainly built up my appetite.”

[Sunbeam]

Though he really was fine, Howard's ego had been bruised by the net a little more than he'd like to admit, so he'd kept back from the latest challenge. Seeing Kage get knocked back, he chalked this decision up to his boundless wisdom.

However, now that the way was clear, he smiled and skipped toward the finish line, humming a merry tune he's picked up from the PoeT.

EB frowned at Kage's words and staggering.
".......that's it." EB reached for Kage and attempted to scoop him up in his arms. "You need to rest."

And so, the group crossed the finish line. Some under their own power while others needed assistance. Nothing happened. They then saw Varian Stalebutter racing towards them as the surroundings melted away. He stopped but his eyes practically glowed with hatred in the distance as he faded away and the forest gave way to San Lorenzo.

Howard found himself inside but his patient and his cooking had been returned. The others outside saw a cloud of flies become a very disgruntled Moscareina. "You won...how obnoxious. Well, at least I'm secure in the knowledge that surely your day was rui..." Just then, the Viknadian royal family, Beannu, Friday, and all the food they brought with them appeared. "Daughter!" The Queen rushed over to give Dee a hug while the King walked over and squeezed EB's shoulder...again. "HA HA! My boy, you should have told me vegetables could be so adventurous. We encountered this giant plant that tried to bite us so I bit it back. That battle was some of the most fun I've had in years!" "What??? No! You can't have had fun with that!"

Seeing her parents were safe and sound Dee was glad for the embrace from her Mom.

 

"The royal chefs will likely gasp when Father tells them he wishes to try a salad."
