It's a good deal if you want a full set of Refraktor (and if they have them at your location)

@  TheMightyMol... : (17 November 2019 - 04:43 PM)

Here we can buy two and get one free, but at least two of them are gonna be the same toy, because lol distribution.

@  Bass X0 : (17 November 2019 - 01:01 PM)

In the U.K., it’s more like you but two, you only get one given how expensive they are.

@  RichardT1977 : (17 November 2019 - 11:38 AM)

Transformers are Buy 2 Get 1 free at Target this week.

@  Bass X0 : (17 November 2019 - 04:29 AM)

2019 has been one long South Park episode.

@  Sjogre : (16 November 2019 - 10:46 PM)

Okay, that actually sounds pretty fun.

@  Maximus Ambus : (15 November 2019 - 12:49 PM)

It was set in the forties, featured Nazi's as the villains and had Kiko fight mostly Ice Age animals and a mythical dragon that now ruled the island guarding Kongs treasure.

@  Paladin : (15 November 2019 - 11:37 AM)

and it was ALSO eleven hours long.

@  Maximus Ambus : (15 November 2019 - 10:55 AM)

In a alternate reality Peter Jackson made Son of Kong.

@  wonko the sane? : (15 November 2019 - 09:30 AM)

To be fair to boba: everyone else to go into the sarlacc was a sacrifice. Stripped almost naked and tossed, and didn't have body armor, a jetpack and a weapon.

@  TheMightyMol... : (15 November 2019 - 06:54 AM)

Nah, he just has to keep up his plot insurance payments so he can shoot his way out of the Sarlacc again.

@  PlutoniumBoss : (15 November 2019 - 02:59 AM)

Funny, but everyone knows he bounty hunts for Jabba Hutt to finance his 'Vette.

@  Tm_Silverclaw : (15 November 2019 - 02:54 AM)

Okay.. Not sure why.. but streaming is harder than jsut playing the game.. even though that's pretty much what I was doing.

@  Xellos : (14 November 2019 - 06:47 PM)

What type of vehicle does Boba Fett use for time travel? A Man-DeLorean.

@  TM2-Megatron : (14 November 2019 - 03:55 PM)

Admittedly, it's been a long time since I've been to a walk-in clinic, as I tend not to get sick (and the one time I do every 4-5 years, I prefer just riding it out at home), but the last time I went I'm pretty sure you could just show up, no appointment. It may be different in Quebec, though

@  Nevermore : (14 November 2019 - 02:36 PM)

One thing to note about health insurance in Germany is that we have a two-class system: mandatory health insurance is basically the economy class, while private health insurance is the business class.

@  Nevermore : (14 November 2019 - 02:32 PM)

My local doctor is actually a shared office with several doctors where you will get randomly assigned to one of the doctors available that day.

@  Nevermore : (14 November 2019 - 02:30 PM)

Also, employers are required by law to cover part of their employees' health insurance fees, so I only have to pay my part.

@  Nevermore : (14 November 2019 - 02:28 PM)

Basic examinations and sick notes (known as "work-inability certificates" in Germany) for the employer are covered by our health insurances by default.

@  TheMightyMol... : (14 November 2019 - 12:02 PM)

Around here, we can go to a walk-in clinic whenever, but might have to wait in the queue until there's a doctor available, which can take hours on a busy day. And then hope our insurance will cover anything.

@  wonko the sane? : (14 November 2019 - 07:38 AM)

There actually are a good number of clinics around here: but the walk ins require an appointment (what?) and are only done once a week. IF you can get an appointment, you see a doctor usually within 40 minutes, but good luck getting the appointment.

@  Nevermore : (14 November 2019 - 03:35 AM)

Depending on the day.

@  Nevermore : (14 November 2019 - 03:35 AM)

We have family doctors (called "house doctors") with regular office hours where you may need an hour or two of waiting time.

@  TM2-Megatron : (14 November 2019 - 12:50 AM)

Two weeks? That seems a little long; are there not a lot of walk-in clinics around you?

@  wonko the sane? : (13 November 2019 - 07:01 PM)

Does germany make it quick and easy to see a doctor too? Cause an emergency doctor visit can take two weeks out here, and an emergency ROOM visit can take 18-24 hours.

@  Nevermore : (13 November 2019 - 06:43 PM)

(Good thing is, under German law, if you call in sick during your vacation and see a doctor immediately, you get to keep your vacation days.)

@  Nevermore : (13 November 2019 - 06:42 PM)

Too bad. My plans wee to do two more overtime hours before having my last day of vacation for the year on Friday. Oh well.

@  Nevermore : (13 November 2019 - 06:41 PM)

So I'm currently on medical leave for a particularly stupid reason: Burned my back with a hot-water bag while sleeping last night. Though the doctor said I'm hardly the first person to have this happen to them.

@  Patch : (13 November 2019 - 06:11 PM)

Just a particularly odious example of the 90s era of depicting transgender women as either the subject of crude humor, or "Jerry Springer" material.

@  Ashley : (13 November 2019 - 04:55 PM)

I think Ace Ventura legit contributed to me spending years in self denial. I will never be ok with Jim Carrey.

@  Benbot : (13 November 2019 - 01:22 PM)

@  Paladin : (13 November 2019 - 10:45 AM)

sonics' still gonna be a terrible movie but at least they whined loud enough to make him look passable for a 2-minute trailer. "yay."

@  ▲ndrusi : (13 November 2019 - 10:37 AM)

@  ▲ndrusi : (13 November 2019 - 10:35 AM)

Even if we pretend it's objective truth that they were both bad, then they were bad in very different ways.

@  ▲ndrusi : (13 November 2019 - 10:33 AM)

Sonic's previous movie design looked genuinely bad. The Transformers '07 designs just looked insufficiently like what certain loud and obnoxious parts of the fandom think Transformers are required to always look like.

@  Otaku : (13 November 2019 - 08:50 AM)

Um... Purple Monkey Dishwasher?

@  TheMightyMol... : (13 November 2019 - 08:25 AM)

Do we really need to have Every Movie Transformer Thread Ever in the Squawkbox?

@  Bass X0 : (13 November 2019 - 08:13 AM)

Sure it made money but that doesn’t mean it has appealing character designs. Lot of god awful fugly faces in the Transformers movies.

@  Otaku : (12 November 2019 - 08:25 PM)

@Liege My issue with Transformers (2007) were elements I thought were unnecessary.  I know it was supposed to just be a joke, but I didn't ever need to hear about "Sam's Happy Time". >.> Which, being in awe of the first "live action" TF-film, didn't even register until I'd already purchased and watched it on DVD a few times (after seeing it in theaters 3 times).

@  Liege : (12 November 2019 - 08:22 PM)

For all the Bayisms in the 07 movie, it was tempered by Spielberg as producer. Designs aside it was an enjoyable popcorn blockbuster about a boy and his first car who happens to be an alien from another planet. They sequels are just Bay going unchecked after he proved how much bank he could bring in.

@  TM2-Megatron : (12 November 2019 - 07:12 PM)

I didn't find the designs in the '07 movie to be that bad, personally. What got really offputting was how Cybertronians in general become such huge a-holes in the later films; the designs were very much secondary to their horrible personalities

@  Sabrblade : (12 November 2019 - 06:59 PM)

And yet, Transformers still broke the bank at the box office, opened up the brand to a whole new generation of fans, shot the brand up to mainstream appeal, and enabled all kinds of new collector-oriented lines and other avenues to come about. Not saying Sonic's movie will do the same for his series, but the 2007 TF movie certainly did more good than harm.

@  Bass X0 : (12 November 2019 - 06:09 PM)

Paramount changed Sonic due to fan backlash but refused to redo Transformers 2007 with new cgi appearances based on their classic forms everyone’s knows and loves, and can relate to. Trailer 1 Sonic is as appealing a design as 2007 Bumblebee...

@  TheMightyMol... : (12 November 2019 - 02:14 PM)

I don't. They're a pain in the ass to repair.

@  Benbot : (12 November 2019 - 12:48 PM)

Paras has an appealing design and a sinister inspiration, but being a first-gen Grass type means it's entire battle strategy consists of getting immediately killed then maybe hurling a status ailment that never bothers the opponent anyways.

Plus it's Bug/Grass, which means 4x weakness to fire. Or 5x, if its ability is Dry Skin.

So basically Paras will die to just about any Fire-type attack at all. You could light a candle on the other side of the room and that'd probably kill it.

It's an atrocious typing all around. You send him out against a Geodude or Onix thinking Absorb can actually be really useful for once, but NOPE. Rock Throw's Super Effective too.

Although Leavanny's the same type but can actually do something.

Back to Prime stuff. Yay?

Suddenly, there are dozens of Predacon clones in tanks, rendering the whole fetch quest kinda pointless.
Shockwave claims they are only a few days away from fully... evolving? Either he ascribes to the recapitulation theory, or the writing’s trying real hard to sound better than it is...

There are some interesting Predacon designs scattered about. I like this mantis-y one (Buzzclaw?!?) and the owl-faced dragon. I *think* maybe there was a snake/mermaid kind of beastie, too.

Predaking drops in and reveals he can talk and transform! Even Shockwave is surprised, though he confusingly claims that transforming is a basic trait for all Cybertronian life -and- that he thought the Predacons hadn’t evolved that far yet.
(Huh, linear evolution. I, uh, guess Shockwave does ascribe to recapitulation theory?)

Predaking (who’s name kinda comes across like a title here) is quite thankful for his kind being cloned (which is being treated as “revived”) and pledges loyalty to Megatron... but Megsy is immediately threatened and orders the whole plan scrapped even though he keeps whining about not having many troops left after Thirst. Wow.

Starscream comes up with a scheme to have the Autobots wipe out the Predacons. Naturally, it involves sacrificing several Vehicons... and Shockwave (not really (yes totally!)). Wheeljack and Magnus are the ones to come across the lab and blow it all up, right as Predaking shows up. They fight, and 'King snaps Magnus' hammer and stomps his hand into a pulp. Ouch. Optimus has to come in to save the day and, boy, he is just ridiculously toyetic now, isn’t he? It’s like the Transmetal upgrade in Beast Wars, but only OP got it and over a decade after cartoons stopped being so XTREME!!!

Also, HOOMINS! A whole herd of them just running around at the base! Whoa!

Also also, this scene:

The whole bit with Knock Out descending in a thunderstorm with Predaking in the back roaring... it's all rather striking and dramatic. I quite like it.

Minus One
The explosion that killed the Preds somehow made all these metal... things. It’s like a close up of a brillo pad. It apparently can be used to cyberform planets. That’s right, they ditched the whole Beast Hunters thing just to redo the finale to Season Two!

The Cons decide to rebuild the Omega Lock and set off to steal a bunch of stuff from the humans to do so. The Autobots catch up and manage to shoot down and capture Soundwave, and try to make him talk. Ratchet suggest tearing him apart and literally rip the info out of him. WAT. Soundwave does actually talk, but it’s just a taunt (three guesses what the line is!) before taking a robot cyanide pill of sorts. He’s alive, but “crashed.” It takes Laserbeak to reboot him. I do love these bits of quirky alien/robot “biology.”

Soundwave, now back in action, steals Ratchet away...

Random design observation: Soundwave’s drone mode has a visor on it! On the underside of the nosecone.

Shockwave, Predaking, and most of the Autobots go to Antarctica to fight over a supercollider or something. Ultra Magnus breaks in his new claw-hand, and Shockwave, well...

"This is no place for a one-handed Autobot.”

You only have one hand, too, you doofus.

The Bots beat him and demand he surrenders, but Shockwave does one of those “leave a sentence open so an ally can barge into the room” type of things (he got his timing PERFECT on that one, heh) and he and Predaking escape with the science thingy in tow.

'King also can turn his hands into guns now. Huh. I wonder where guns fit into robot evolution...

The Decepticons know where the Autobot base is -- Laserbeak simply just followed Fowler there. HOW HAVE THEY NOT DONE THIS BEFORE?

Starscream brings this huge fleet of five whole Vehicons to take on the tiny resistance of just five human jets, and obliterates exactly one building in the entire complex before returning home victorious. But alas, it was all an Autobot trick; they repainted "E" into "F", a detail Starscream took no notice anyways.

........ yeaaaah, that whole scene is just stupid.

The Bots try to locate Ratchet using a chunk of Laserbeak's wing that Smokescreen shot off, which for some reason is trying to get back to the robo... "bird?" Raf apparently just happened to learn the necessary Cybertronian writing to pull the stunt off, and also picked up on some of Ratchet's mannerisms. It’s kinda weird.

Ratchet is taken aboard the Nemesis, where the Cons try to convince him to work on the Omega Lock. This is really where Ratchet’s story was heading, but it's kinda too late now. Like, at the beginning of the season, where the destruction of the lock was raw and Ratch was cut off from the rest of the Bots, that’s when you’d drive in that wedge to pull him to the other side. Here, though, he’s already accepted the loss, happily reunited with his team and the humans, even commending Smokescreen for choosing to save Optimus instead of trying to recreate the Omega Keys -- Ratchet already got the "home is the people not the place" lesson. He’s not making a Faustian deal with Megatron, he’s just trying to make being a prisoner palatable.

Just two episodes and the movie...

And then......... I dunno.*shrug*

Yeah, I've been looking up old episode discussion threads elsewhere and I'm at a complete loss as to how people keep saying these are the "best episodes ever."

Also, a LOT of people kept misspelling the dragon faction as "Predicon"....

On Paras: The funny thing is, Parasect was actually considered by some to be a semi-decent counter to Mewtwo in Gen 1. Entirely because it was the only thing that learned Spore. This says less about Parasect than it does about how stupidly overpowered Mewtwo was (and still is, really, but now we have dark-types to help).

Ratchet and Shockwave do sciency whatever until Knock Out lets it slip that the whole Predacon killing was a set up. Boy, these Cons are HORRIBLE at deception. Starscream tricked by the base, Megatron straight up tells Ratchet he’s a liar, Soundwave never realizes Laserbeak's been bugged...
Which means now instead of getting to know the Decepticon sides of things, Ratchet goes and ruins their day. He lowers the shield, calls the Autobots in, and tells Predaking what happened to his boys.

'King goes after Megatron and starts beating him with the dead body of a Vehicon! But Megs eventually kicks him out of the airlock... with an assist by Starscream of all people.

Although I do like how ridiculous this line is:
"But that's not possible. Laserbeak's right here in Soundwave's torso."

So these last few episodes, the Nemesis has gone from space to in Earth’s atmosphere to space again. We don’t see the ship travel or anything, and there’s not even much time for it to do that "offscreen", it’s just suddenly in a different location.

The Autobots storm the ship and everybody fights and it’s all kinda blah. Arcee ends up tussling Starscream and I’m suddenly reminded how there aren't any rivalries anymore. It’s all just Autobots vs Decepticons, no side battles like Depth Charge vs Rampage or (Animated) 'Bee and Bulk vs "Longarm."

Smokescreen steals away the Star Saber, which seems like it’s supposed to tie into how he wants to be special, but nope. Bumblebee takes it from there and tries to hand it off to Optimus, but Megatron shoots him dead. He actually blows a hole in the poor scout, one of the few times a weapon causes real visible damage (in fact, this scene is sandwiched between Smokescreen getting hit by Shockwave's cannon and Optimus by the Dark Star Saber, and neither of them are damaged that badly). These things vary so wildly it’s impossible to tell how strong anyone or anything is supposed to be.

Not that Bee stays dead. The Omega Lock brings him back to life and even restores his voice, and he up and kills Megatron himself! Which I actually really like. Megs is so utterly focused on Optimus and the various traitors, he doesn’t bother to pay any attention to all the others he’s been trampling over, to his ultimate peril. And poetically, he doesn't even get to say a word after Bee stabs him.
And I do love how acrophobic this whole upside-down Omega Lock battleground is.

Of course, immediately following all this is Starscream being genuinely upset that Megatron died. *sigh* What the hell happened to "aligned with no side, servant to no one" Starscream? I miss him dearly.

Soundwave gets sent to the Shadowzone (it really looks like he got torn in two)
The Autobots restore Cybertron
Knock Out joins their side... and gets decked by Miko for some reason. (oh, she didn’t become a full-fledged Wrecker after all)
Ratchet stays behind on Earth 'cuz why not?
The human cast is recruited into that Unit:E thing that never happened (one wonders how a series that rejected that Binder of Revelation would’ve handled that whole "shared universe" thing anyways)
Predaking makes an obligatory sequel hook

Christ, this season was hugging awful. Part of why I even re-watched this series was because I thought maybe Season Two poisoned my view of the rest of the show, but no. God no. Somebody elsewhere has said the characters had been reduced to catchphrases, and yeah that's kinda what happened; plus, this Beast Hunters subplot the writers clearly did not give a shit about; plus a redo on the last season finale because god forbid the Autobots lose, I guess.

(it's kinda telling how my silly little sketches went from being observational to just referencing other movies...)

I might as well finish off with Predacons Rising, but I think I'll have to rewatch Stronger, Faster and Partners just to scrub my mind of all this shit.

Predacons Rising
Is actually kinda OK. Not super amazing, but, well... there’s no real nonsense thrown in, it’s a very concise story about the Bots ('Bee in particular) learning to take care of things without Optimus (mostly), even when all literal hell breaks loose. And as misleading as the title is, the Predacons at least feel part of the story.

More importantly...
A doodle!! Because Shockwave and Starscream's secret lab is in an amusement park!

They’ve made some new Preds, neither of which are as visually interesting as the test tube dragos, or even 'King with his buggy mandibles. Nor do they really do much or make much of an impression. They’re kinda blatantly there because toys.

(Also, there’s a third that never fully 'evolves')

... How much time has passed since Deadlock? It’s impossible to tell.

Unicron revives Megatron and takes over his body, because Dark Energon damns your soul! Good thing Starscream took that chunk out of himself. This is also probably where Airachnid and her insects were supposed to come back in, but who cares? FOSSIL ZOMBIE DRAGON ROBOTS! Unicron's possession also comes with some kind of fancy wormhole travel. It’s another pretty space shot, with Saturn and moons and rainbows reflected all over Megatron (he kinda just randomly switches between shiny and matte a lot, doesn't he?)

Meanwhile, the Autobots have enlisted the help of some Vehicons to help rebuild Cybertron (it doesn’t go so well), while they keep the rest of them and Knock Out in prison. Why? No clue. KO declared himself an Autobot, so....?

Starscream frees the Decepticons later on, and KO eventually turns on him because Star told him to shut up while he was busy trying to take control of the Nemesis from the Autobots. I mean, Scream gave Knock Out plenty of reasons to turn on him, but this moment just seems kinda petty? *shrug*

Shockwave gets killed by the hoard of zombie dragons... except he doesn't, because he just randomly pops back up for a quick word to Predaking before vanishing back into the aether. Wut?

There's a whole fight at the well of allsparks, and Optimus saves the day by trapping Unicron in a jar and then diving into the planet’s core. This destroys the Matrix of Leadership and ends the line of Primes and --- hang on, was the Matrix even passed down in this series? They act like it does, but Optimus got it straight from Primus. And returning it to him literally just destroyed it, so?????????

Megatron disbands the Decepticons because he felt "oppression", depsite that being exactly why he created ‘Cons in the first place. Ehh, there’s potential here (Tarn and Animated Megtron play with similar themes), but this show is just totally disinterested in fleshing out anything.

Starscream finally acts likes himself.... but the Preds ambush him. Gah.

And that is that.

Lord Smokescreen, Emperor of Destruction *flails limbs*
