@  PlutoniumBoss : (16 May 2021 - 10:07 PM)

A toy is not on the same level as a piece of drawn art, true, but it is 100% an entertainment product.

@  Nevermore : (16 May 2021 - 05:05 PM)

A toy is an object of utility, Comparing that to a piece of drawn art is grossly ignoring the difference between the two. Also, you didn't answer my questions. Try again.

@  PlutoniumBoss : (16 May 2021 - 04:25 PM)

Part of the difference is that those covers are primarily one person's art. Sure, you probably have an inker and a colorist, but the lines and composition are one person. A toy however is a team design at pretty much all levels.

@  Cyoti : (16 May 2021 - 03:52 PM)

toymaking is a collaborative process, you have to make compromises and factories are going to get things wrong

@  tigerhawk : (16 May 2021 - 03:43 PM)

Earthrise had a few holes, Runamuck's legs YIKES!

@  NotVeryKnightly : (16 May 2021 - 03:37 PM)

I doubt that say, the designer for Kingdom Cheetor was happy about every bit of unpainted plastic on it.

@  Bass X0 : (16 May 2021 - 03:28 PM)

J Scott Campbell recently had his Spiderman cover "fixed" by someone online. A few weeks ago, someone on twitter "fixed" someone's Sonic the Hedgehog fan art where Sonic, Tails and Knuckles were drawn as humans. Both times and other times, the "fixer" gets called out and criticised as you shouldn't go around "fixing" someone else's art because its rude and disrespectful to the original artist. And I was thinking isn't "fixed your s*** for ya" exactly what toy customisers do?

@  Nevermore : (16 May 2021 - 02:28 PM)

Have you ever changed your car in any way whatsoever compared to the factory configuration, or are you leaving the designer's art unchanged in that case as well?

@  CORVUS : (16 May 2021 - 02:28 PM)

It's best not to ponder it too hard.

@  Nevermore : (16 May 2021 - 04:16 AM)

Bass X0, I really wonder sometimes how you come up with these random tangents apropos of nothing.

@  PlutoniumBoss : (16 May 2021 - 04:11 AM)

It's collaborative art.

@  NotVeryKnightly : (16 May 2021 - 04:07 AM)

Toys are subject to budget constraints, so its not like customizing would ruin the designer's vision or whatever.

@  Bass X0 : (16 May 2021 - 03:38 AM)

Isn't customising a toy just "fixing other people's art"?

@  Demovere Xeno : (08 May 2021 - 08:58 AM)

Generations Nightbeat never really scratched that itch sadly; he looked okay, but his transformation was fiddly, his robot mode had far too many bits and pieces flopping around unsecured, and his chest dragged along the surface in var mode. =/

Imagine a chain smoking duck running off at the beak... and that's pretty much what joile sounds like. If you grew up with it, you're fine. If you come here speaking proper french: well, that's just another reason for les quebecois to hate and shun you. Despite speaking the language, you're the problem because you apparently refuse to assimilate.

Audacity varies depending on which government is in power. It's less noticeable (but still prevalent.) during liberal mandates, and up to xenophobic levels during a seperatist mandate. Mandates tend to get split 50/50, so to figure out how badly you'll be hated: roll the dice and guess. Then just hugging move to ontario, that's what all the smart ones did forty years ago.

Tom brady is going to bring baseball back to montreal in 2022! AND he's excited about becoming MLB's first owner/coach/player.

SO! In a city that's hemorrhaging people due to poor wages, lack of affordable housing, lackluster services and piss poor infrastructure AND in a culture notorious for being god awful fans: he wants to build another stadium and bring in another sports team.

Now, if montreal was in ontario: I would understand the attempt. The leafs don't even have colour pictures of lord stanley's cup, but they still fill the arena to just about capacity every. hugging. time. The habs don't get a full house unless it's game seven during a winning streak. That's why the expos left in the first place: they weren't financially viable. Oh, and let's talk about branding while we're at it: montreal fans DON'T actually want baseball (I mean, I'm sure some of them do, but the majority?) they want the expos. And when the new team in montreal is NOT the expos, a mad massive chunk of the people screaming about baseball will shut up and disappear. No butts in seats, no tickets sold. Another massive public works project left empty and rotting.

Soccer is actually pretty popular in montreal: between the accessibility of the game, and a strong cosmopolitan culture, there's plenty of folk who love a good row on the pitch. And there was MASSIVE backlash against the property when the montreal impact changed their name in the attempt to give themselves a stronger international presence.

Quebec is bad for sports: on an economic level, on a cultural level, on a social level. There was a period of time not so long ago where regardless of the outcome of a match, there would be a riot in the streets. "The habs LOST! Break windows, start fires, flip cars!", "The habs WON! Break windows, start fires, flip cars: cause we're CELEBRATING!".

All that will come of this is lots and lots of wasted money, even more hugging traffic from roads getting blocked due to major construction, and mr.brady will leave bitter and angry at the province that can't be pleased under any circumstance.

https://montrealgaze...his-resignation

Alright everyone: put on your very best sarcastic tone of voice.

The lying liars who lie were caught lying?!?!? I'm shocked!

So, long story short: roberge (yet another piece of human excrement.) falsely stated that the Co2 testing done in schools was done with cooperation from and approval from the quebec provincial health authority. Recently leaked documents from the health authority support the fact that he lied. The subsequent report from those "tests" were used to justify NOT spending money on repairs and upgrades to classrooms, and more recently: to justify sending high schoolers back to class full time.

For those who do not know: The vast majority of quebec schools vary between "old as hug" and "dirt is younger". Coupled with the extant problems of insufficient educational infrastructure (I.e. there aren't enough schools.) and the getting worse by the month teacher shortage, it will be impossible for those high schools to maintain the pandemic health requirements. Some school boards are trying to phase in the forced return to class (and do not be mistaken. It is forced. It was not a suggestion on the part of the minister, it was an order. He made it perfectly clear that schools and school boards do not have a say in the matter.) in the hopes of either outrunning this nonsense, or finishing out the year without too much more disruption. The order is already prompting talks of strikes, and a planned event on the... I want to say the 14th, somewhere around there. Considering how negotiations between the government and the teachers have gone from unproductive to laughable, it's a sure bet we're going to be seeing more orders from the tyrant roberge, and more strikes and events from both students and teachers before the school year ends.

Even longer story short: the CAQ is playing politics... with our childrens health and safety. To quote lord Farquaad "Some of you will die, and that's a sacrifice I am willing to make.".

The consolation prize in this charlie foxtrot; the CAQ just guaranteed they will not be elected in the next mandate. Quebecers are generally apathetic about education, but you DO NOT hug with their kids.

La Meiress de montreal has issued a 500 day challenge to help revitalize the cities economy!... Two days after stricter lockdown measures were enacted.

See, this is one of the cultural, social and logistical problems of quebec. It's not a case of the right hand not knowing what the left hand is doing, it's a case of individual fingers not giving hug and consequently being completely unwilling to communicate with the other 9.

To wit: the stupid bitch wants to bring things back to the way they were BEFORE all this covid noise: and even a person with half a hugging brain can tell you that it won't happen. The office towers will NOT get filled like they were before, the small businesses will not come back, and inexorable march of manufacturing away from north america will continue unabated. She needs to do more to allow for small business owners to actually succeed in the city: like lowering taxes, enforcing rent caps on commercial spaces, subsidies to help people get started or start again after failures like those caused by the pandemic. As it currently stands: small business owners don't survive because it's functionally impossible for them to earn a living wage. Rents are too high, taxes are too high, and competition from walmart will force them to try cut their prices to below a profitable level. Might as well get a job stocking shelves at the grocery: less hours and better pay.

Instead of wasting her time and tax payer money, she SHOULD be paying people to figure out just what the post pandemic economy will look like and start crafting legislation to enable it. Maybe put some effort into solving the housing crisis, the parking crisis, et al.

Montreal has been described as the economic engine of the province: but its the devil make go engine from a ww2 willy wrecker: sure it works. No one knows how, and we're scared to take it apart to find out.

Let's take a quick tally of montreal at the moment, shall we?

There's lead in the pipes, air in the roads, and people homeless from a critical lack of social housing. The pandemic has proven how far behind quebec is in access to information and information infrastructure EVEN in our most "cosmopolitan" city, and "driving while black" is still a hugging crime.

So yeah: Now's a goddamn GREAT TIME! to spend 6 million on bringing back the grand prix to empty bleachers. hugging go for it. Hey, while we're at it; shave another couple million off the maintenance at the Big O and put it towards a baseball stadium no one will go to!

So, today: bill c21 had a verdict! The court mostly agreed with the bill, BUT found that the english schools aren't required to enforce it. So english school boards can hire as many non-catholics as they hugging well want! The CAQ is already moving to appeal, but it'll probably end up being shunted to the supreme court. Oh, they ALSO found that the restrictions imposed on religious symbols AREN'T applicable to members of the provincial assembly. So, yay! Even more hypocrisy.

Alright, sarcasm aside: This is just going to deepen a couple of cultural divides in the province. Seperatists WILL play up the "refuses to assimilate and obey our laws" bullshit, it will increase the call for cultural purity from them, it WILL continue to scare off the needed population, both driving people out of the province as well as preventing them from immigrating in the first place.

Second: It's going to further high light the ridiculous divide in education in the province. Not to mention make the extant teacher shortage even hugging worse for both sides. Cause why would a muslim, or jewish, or anyone other than christian want to teach here: they can't wear their religious symbols. Oh, no wait; you CAN, but you can only do it in an english school where the quebecois culture now has EVEN MORE REASON to hate and ostracize you. What with refusing to assimilate, follow the law, and teaching the enemy and all that.

Thirdly: I can't wait to see how the CAQ punishes the schools (and consequently: the children.) because of the ruling. Considering we STARTED this entire asinine venture with the minister of education literally threatening institutions which refused to abide by c21. I suspect there will be slashed budgets (lol, how can even you tell?) and even FURTHER restrictions regarding access to education in our future. They already want to cap the number of students at cegeps and universities to prevent those schools from teaching the good little quebecois kids about horrific concepts like multiculturalism, common sense... literacy. The caq has proven they only excel at two things: being monsters and retaliating when they're called monsters.

So yeah... expect quebecs basic literacy and graduation rate to hugging bottom out in a few years. I feel so goddamn bad for my niece and nephews.

Ontario's biggest problem during COVID is that it features neighborhoods with the highest population density in the entire country, and those neighborhoods are also home mostly to people who can't work from home, and work in essential industries. Being the economic engine of the country, there's a limit to how much Ontario can truly shut down.

Fortunately Ontario's numbers now seem to be cresting, though, and vaccination appointment will be open to the entire adult population before the end of May. I've already pre-registered for a vaccine in my area; when more appointments are made available they'll contact me.

Welp, the caq is officially moving to restart the language war. The first is a piece of symbolic legislation: enforcing a mandate which dictates that all communication from the provincial government is to be done in french only.  This was already largely the case.

The SECOND thing though... they want to pass legislation to revamp the french language charter. Which, I can guarantee, will be unconstitutional and horsed through with both "not withstanding" and the CAQs super majority. And they want that done before they break for the summer. So, you know, happy hugging canada day.

So they want to revamp the french language charter, and once again: they drag up the tired little ditty of "justifying to the government why that job requires english". Literal and open discrimination based on language.

So yeah, don't expect the quebec economy to recover after the pandemic, and probably followed closely by another wave of violent quebec nationalism.
