@  Cybersnark : (17 June 2021 - 04:40 PM)

And then there was the Writers' Strike, which isn't the show's fault.

@  Cybersnark : (17 June 2021 - 04:40 PM)

Yeah, Sylar should've been, if not killed off, at least left to rest.

@  Nevermore : (17 June 2021 - 03:43 PM)

It never truly recovered from that.

Here in Germany, the price you see is the price you pay, tax included.

Yeah, I read about this over on Blu-ray.com; I'd also never heard of this cut.  Warner Archives is a great label, although I'm kind of surprised they're doing this one instead of WB just including it in the upcoming Superman Anthology boxset that includes all the Chris Reeve films as well as Returns.

Now, what the hell's the hold up with The Abyss and True Lies?  Why are TV cuts of films making it to blu-ray while those still languish in SD-land.

im GLAD they arent putting it in a boxset with all the others. the first 2 are they only ones i ever really liked. 3 had its moments (i especially like evil superman), but was mostly too goofy. and 4 was just terrible. the only thing i liked about returns is that routh did a pretty dead on impersonation of reeves' clark

That airplane/shuttle rescue scene was amazing, too.

And Kevin Spacey's Lex Luthor is delightful.

I think the concept of being educated and being able to educate is something that more people need more of in their lives.

No, we don't all know everything but we should spread and share that what we do know.

If I'm consistently misspelling a word, I would want and expect people to correct me as should I imagine all decent people who know the value of good literacy.

Its just arrogant laziness to know you're spelling a word incorrectly and not correct yourself or ignore the advice when people do tell you how to spell a word correctly.

I’m just going to say it. I actually liked Returns. It was flawed. I mean, it was very flawed. But it was still entertaining and definitely more enjoyable than Man of Steel.

Tough choice, but I'd rather have the emo Superman that isn't a stalker and a deadbeat dad.

...who let his father die in a tornado because...reasons? I still don’t get that. For one thing, after the school bus thing, the town had to have known. Plus, I don’t care who knows about some secret ability Ihave, if My fathers life is in danger and I can save him, you damn well better believe that I’m going to save him.

Plus the Kryptonion ships at the beginning look like dildos.

Not that I disagree that stalker/deadbeat dad Superman is creepy. He is.

I just don’t think there’s been a good DC movie outside Nolan’s Dark Night Trilogy in quite a while. And Wonder Woman...that was pretty awesome.

I mostly liked the casting, but Kate Bosworth was 23 when she played a Lois who won a Pulitzer 5 years earlier, compared to Erica Durance being 26 when she started playing a Lois who wasn't a reporter yet. She's also theoretically supposed to be 5 years older than Margot Kidder who was 30 when Donner's Superman was released.

I think it's at least understandable that someone could find an idiot more pleasant than a stalker, and there might not be much more than that preference.

Honestly, I wasn't that bothered by Routh's deadbeat dad/stalker Superman because, unlike Cavill's Superman, I could actually feel sympathy (or even anything) for him.

Poor Superman Returns. It gets defended so halfheartedly that the "deadbeat dad" thing has really cemented itself into Comedy Fact.

Anyway, I guess it'll soon be time for me to buy the good movie again. Going on 4 times now, I think. Other than the scene from the televised version where he saves Miss Tessmacher from the lion pit, I'm not sure what more there is to add. I'm expecting a lot of extended/alternate takes of existing scenes, which aren't always a good thing.

picked it up a couple weeks ago. all the added stuff just really feels like padding. LOTS of extended stuff. for example, when the cops are following otis in the train station, they pad it out. theres a shot of some dude on krypton thats going to jor-els quarters i think to kill him, but he doesnt make it and winds up smashing into a falling wall (that was pretty hilarious though). i think theres one or 2 scenes that benefit from being extended, but like i said, most of it is just padding. i can see why they cut what they did

thats not to say i didnt like it. for a first time bluray purchase, its great and im glad i finally had a reason to buy it on the format. and you get donners directors cut to boot. now all i need is to get donners superman 2 on bluray and ill be set

im still VERY sad the last really good superman movie we had was made 37 years ago...

I completely forgot this was even a thing. I'm going to have to check out Amazon for this, because I'm pretty sure I haven't seen it in any brick and mortar (hence why I forgot it was even a thing).

Regardless of whether this footage is worth the wait or not, I'm always happy to see movies get this treatment.

Can we get Batman Forever now? Seriously?

Batman Forever? Seriously? Only good thing about that movie was that it wasn't Batman and Robin. And the only thing that made it better was Jim Carry. I say if you want retro Batman, get the Tim Burton ones and call it a day.
