Its Bass X0. I named myself after my three favourite Mega Man characters - Bass, X and Zero. I did consider going with Vile Bass X0, but that would have been going too far.

I'm making progress with tweezers. It's no great loss given Dai Atlas minor roles anyway, I really do prefer this mold for Titans Overlord and Sky Shadow,

@  unluckiness : (22 May 2021 - 09:57 PM)

Had that happen once. Drilled a 1 mmhole in the peg and superglued a rivet into it for something to pull on.

@  tigerhawk : (22 May 2021 - 09:44 PM)

pliers, superglue, heat, nothing has worked so far but I had to take yesterday off due to pfizer side effects.

@  unluckiness : (22 May 2021 - 07:04 AM)

is there enough plastic sticking out to yank it out with pliers?

@  tigerhawk : (21 May 2021 - 01:05 PM)

Oh great my Legends Dai Atlas fell and the gun snapped in two, the handle is stuck in the port on top of the vehicle mode.

@  Nevermore : (21 May 2021 - 04:14 AM)

Also, our compound terms are legendary among foreigners, because we throw them together as a single word, with no spaces and usually without hyphens too.

@  Nevermore : (21 May 2021 - 04:12 AM)

You can have straightforward sentences that are a literal word-replace translation of stuff like "I go to school", but once you throw in perfect tense and prepositions, you end up with insane constructions where the main verb is at the very end of a very long sentence, so you have to listen to the whole sentence until you have any clue what is going on.

@  Nevermore : (21 May 2021 - 04:10 AM)

And I stand by that. German sentence structure can be utterly insane.

@  Nevermore : (21 May 2021 - 04:10 AM)

Fun fact: When I was teaching German kids English, I kept telling them that English grammar and especially sentence structure is more logical than German.

@  NotVeryKnightly : (21 May 2021 - 01:17 AM)

e.g. Lion-Eating Poet in the Stone Den was by a Chinese guy pointing out the weirdness in his own language, rather than the frustrations of somebody learning Chinese as their second. So English isn't the only case where native speakers might enocunter funky issues.

@  PlutoniumBoss : (21 May 2021 - 01:17 AM)

Then I shall concede, and retire.

@  NotVeryKnightly : (21 May 2021 - 01:14 AM)

I'm not sure if that's even all that unique to English.

@  PlutoniumBoss : (21 May 2021 - 01:07 AM)

Which is why I specified those comparing learning it to learning other languages as a second language.

@  NotVeryKnightly : (21 May 2021 - 01:04 AM)

And I don't think "ancedotal frustration" means much, considering that every language has complaints from people trying to learn it.

@  NotVeryKnightly : (21 May 2021 - 01:03 AM)

The fact that these stand out certainly makes Japanese "not a smoothie". And it's only consistent within more recent loanwords. Older ones stick out in a different way.

@  PlutoniumBoss : (21 May 2021 - 01:00 AM)

Even writing them generally in katakana is a consistent treatment, and gives someone learning the language a general expected approach. I'd say the anecdotal frustration with English by those learning it compared to learning other languages as a second language is a demonstration that this sort of consistency and organization was not a valued thing in the past few centuries of the language's development.

@  NotVeryKnightly : (21 May 2021 - 12:28 AM)

Frankly, it just sounds like you think other languages seem a certain way because you don't look into them all that much.

@  NotVeryKnightly : (21 May 2021 - 12:28 AM)

It's pretty pervasive in Japanese as well, with how these feature into everyday speech.. And I don't know what you even mean by "deep", since writing them in a particular character set basically calls attention to not just their derivative nature, but their relative recency as well.

@  PlutoniumBoss : (21 May 2021 - 12:25 AM)

Indeed, every language has those artifacts if you examine deeply enough, but in English they're not deep, and they're pervasive.

@  NotVeryKnightly : (20 May 2021 - 11:56 PM)

like Japanese using three different script types together, and more recent word borrowings tend to be in katakana.

@  NotVeryKnightly : (20 May 2021 - 11:51 PM)

I don't know what you mean by "cohesively". Borrowings are probably obvious if you know what to look for.

What would you do if you found a bunch of Transformers in the road?

Would you turn them over to the police? Because that's what happened in Nanaimo, British Columbia last week:

If you were driving by the intersection of Fifth St and the Nanaimo Parkway on Tuesday September 12th at approximately 10:30 am, and saw dozens of Transformers lying on the side of the road, have no worries that a battle is looming between the honorable Optimus Prime and his evil arch enemy Megatron. These powerful beasts appear to have simply fallen off the back of a truck and ended up scattered along the highway and throughout the intersection.

An alert northbound motorist saw the Transformers roadside and pulled over, gathered them up and then turned over to the Nanaimo RCMP for safekeeping. A few pictures are attached of the items gathered up.

A story posted by the Nanaimo News Bulletin claimed that the owner of the figures contacted the RCMP and retrieved them. (But who knows if it was really the owner. "Sure, yeah, those are my Transformers...")

The RCMP posted a couple pics of the haul, and it's MIB stuff including a Prime First Edition Optimus and a Fury of Bonecrusher two-pack:

I'm honestly not sure how I'd react in this situation. Undoubtedly my brain would start shooting eBay auction prices into my eyes and I'd start thinking about what I could buy with the sales. But then I'd think about how I'd feel if I lost something like that in the road...I dunno!

Honestly If it were only a couple things I'd probably just pick them up and keep them. If they were a lot of toys, or something expensive or I saw something about them being lost I'd happily return them, but there's a size/expense qualifier in whether I search for an owner or keep a toy. I don't think it would really occur to me to contact the cops about just a random found toy or two. Too small a thing. A couple dozen.. I'm not sure...

ZacWilliam, the one time we found a small unopened Lego set sitting in a parking lot I told my brother to leave it and if we came back in a couple hours after what we were doing and it was still there he could take it. It was. He did.

Yeah, if it was like... four or less I probably would have just kept them.

But several dozens? Valuable ones? I would have made an effort to make sure I was getting the original owner myself. Ask specifically what they lost and so forth on Facebook groups or Craigslist or something.

I had a friend lose a cellphone to a lost&found bandit because the attendant just asked if it was an iPhone or not.

The only way I would find Transformers in the road is after a big storm and the Power company would already be working on them.

Ya know, my wife used to work with teaching English to refugees from war-torn countries like Iraq. In some of the worst cases, misconceptions of the US are so bad, that there are people in other countries that literally think that America is so plentiful that you could come here, never work a day in your life, and you could pick giant gold nuggets off the side of the road and pay your way through life that way, and drink milk and honey that rains from the skies.

And now, it literally rains Transformers in Canada. Like, you can have Transformers just picked up off the side of the road. Goddamnit... :D

This makes me proud to be Canadian.

Like others have said, depending on what they were, if it were just a small few (literally like 2 or 3), honestly, I'd probably keep them. But if it were more than that, I'd probably try to find the owner. Though, admittedly, if there were something vintage and truly valuable in there, I'd struggle with keeping it or not. But mostly modern stuff like what it seems to be, wouldn't really catch my interest.

I have to say this thread isn't at all about what I was expecting it to be about, but I guess my response of "act casual and hope they don't realize I'm onto them" is technically still valid.

Looking at the story, I kind of have to ask, why wasn't the back of the truck secured or why wasn't the container those boxes should of been in, strapped down for transport? While I don't see an answer to this, it kind of makes me think whoever owns those figures should of paid more attention to ensuring the safety of the content of those boxes. If those boxes containing the items are so valuable, why not do your up most to ensure no harm comes to them, I understand people like to collect and keep in boxes figures but one needs to ensure their safety even when moving home.

As for what I would do, it kind of depends on what I find and what at my disposal, thou I would likely round up all of the escaped figures and maybe make a display of them or something, then again, most likely I would hand them over to the police with my contact details, if the owner choses to say thank you, its the most likely thing to happen with me.
