@  TheMightyMol... : (12 December 2019 - 05:33 PM)

Can it raise the dead?

@  RichardT1977 : (12 December 2019 - 05:33 PM)

Cheddar can do just about anything.

@  RichardT1977 : (12 December 2019 - 05:32 PM)

Cream cheese has to be on a bagel or crackers.

@  RichardT1977 : (12 December 2019 - 05:31 PM)

(for example: I like Swiss cheese on sandwiches, but find it merely tolerable by itself)

@  RichardT1977 : (12 December 2019 - 05:30 PM)

I mean are you eating it by itself? With crackers? On a sandwich?

@  TheMightyMol... : (12 December 2019 - 04:48 PM)

I would ask, but I'd rather not know.

@  PlutoniumBoss : (12 December 2019 - 03:38 PM)

With my mouth, usually.

@  RichardT1977 : (12 December 2019 - 08:48 AM)

Depends on how you're eating it.

@  PlutoniumBoss : (12 December 2019 - 01:40 AM)

Havarti, without a doubt.

@  Greebtron : (12 December 2019 - 01:28 AM)

Not Don, thanks. I'd like a writer who actually cares enough to do the job properly

@  Benbot : (11 December 2019 - 09:34 PM)

What's your favorite cheese? I'm not sure, but it's hard to beat muenster.

@  Maximus Ambus : (11 December 2019 - 05:10 PM)

Man I wish IDW could do a season 2.5 with a few writers like Michael Charles Hill or Donald F Glut or Paul Davids involved.

@  TheMightyMol... : (11 December 2019 - 04:33 PM)

They were looking for Skids, but the animators forgot he existed again.

@  Benbot : (11 December 2019 - 08:20 AM)

Did he get infected with the rest of the Autobots or did he smartly remain off-planet?

@  TheMightyMol... : (11 December 2019 - 05:38 AM)

He really just went to the beach for a couple of days, then called it in. Who's gonna follow up on it?

@  Maximus Ambus : (11 December 2019 - 05:05 AM)

Anyone really believe Cosmos searched far enough for more ingredient for Corrostop?

@  Nevermore : (11 December 2019 - 03:48 AM)

Oh, we are pretty good at "forgetting" about that. Insisting on sending people home on their overtime, THEN suddenly rushing to do the "backlog" stuff when it's really overdue.

@  wonko the sane? : (10 December 2019 - 05:43 PM)

I've yet to find an organization which didn't have a backlog of "stuff" that needs to be done, but isn't important enough to put on the schedule proper.

@  TM2-Megatron : (10 December 2019 - 05:01 PM)

I'm sure most good/bad (depending on your POV) bosses would be able to find something for the worker to do, in most cases, even if it's spending 8 hours pretending to push a broom around

@  Tm_Silverclaw : (10 December 2019 - 04:39 PM)

Still better than American jobs. x.x;

@  NotVeryKnightly : (10 December 2019 - 11:10 AM)

I'm pretty sure you've already mentioned this before. Especially that last one.

@  Nevermore : (10 December 2019 - 11:05 AM)

That can be fun if you're strong-willed enough. "Hey, you want to go home? Overtime reduction, there's nothing to do..." - "Nah, not today. I want to work."

@  Nevermore : (10 December 2019 - 11:04 AM)

This applies to the field of work as well. Meaning, your boss orders you to show up for a full shift, you show up on time and are absolutely willing to work, and then your boss realizes he has no work for you, your boss has to pay you for a full shift even if you don't work at all.

@  Nevermore : (10 December 2019 - 11:03 AM)

Fun fact: German law has a concept named "default in acceptance", which postulates that if there is a "service for payment" contract, the party that should provide the service correctly offers their due service, and the party that should pay fails to accept the service within due time, the second party still has to pay the first party even if there was no service delivered.

@  wonko the sane? : (08 December 2019 - 10:54 PM)

If it's seasonal affective disorder, check with your doc about vitamin D supplements.

@  Maximus Ambus : (08 December 2019 - 12:46 PM)

That's what I was thinking too, It's the christmas rush and if that's not stressful enough the cold weather can also impact mental health.

@  wonko the sane? : (08 December 2019 - 12:41 PM)

Might be a stupid question given the comment, BUT: have you done anything outside the ordinary lately? Might just be a stress reaction.

@  Maximus Ambus : (08 December 2019 - 12:29 PM)

I've experienced sleep paralysis with ghostly images and similar things in the past and can snap out of it through moving my fingers. I've definitely hallucinated before and members of both sides of the family have had similar experience, some suffered forms of mental instability in two cases schizophrenia.

@  wonko the sane? : (08 December 2019 - 10:47 AM)

So... either a hallucination or night terrors. Are you prone to this kind of thing?

@  Maximus Ambus : (07 December 2019 - 11:55 PM)

It kept repeating until I sat up.

@  Maximus Ambus : (07 December 2019 - 11:54 PM)

I've been up since three and when sheepish I was hallucinating something knocking twice against my bedroom door.

@  TheMightyMol... : (07 December 2019 - 06:58 PM)

Then repaint Apeface and Snapdragon as Transmetal Optimus Primal and Megatron. It's crazy enough to work.

@  PlutoniumBoss : (07 December 2019 - 05:32 PM)

Moral imperative.

@  Nevermore : (07 December 2019 - 05:13 PM)

Wishful thinking, rumor or leak?

@  Maximus Ambus : (07 December 2019 - 04:48 PM)

Snapdragon for Earthrise.

@  TM2-Megatron : (04 December 2019 - 10:22 PM)

Still not the weirdest thing a Nic Cage character has done in a film

@  TheMightyMol... : (04 December 2019 - 04:00 PM)

Couldn't be worse than him pissing fire as Ghost Rider.

@  Rycochet : (04 December 2019 - 03:38 PM)

The Tim Burton Superman Movie is the DC movie we deserve. It would have Nic Cage in a technosuit punching polarbears.

@  Paladin : (04 December 2019 - 02:59 PM)

Wonder Woman was great. Shazam was amazing. Aquaman... exists.

@  RichardT1977 : (04 December 2019 - 01:54 PM)

TBF, Aquaman and Shazam! were pretty good.

@  TheMightyMol... : (04 December 2019 - 01:00 PM)

Not a difficult feat.

@  Benbot : (04 December 2019 - 11:50 AM)

You just put more effort into telling a compelling story than all of WB's execs.

@  Cybersnark : (04 December 2019 - 11:41 AM)

Cue the flashback to Jonathan, reassuring a terrified child: "What you are is never as important as who you are." Cue Superman's response to Brainiac: "I already know who I am."*John Williams fanfare plays*

@  Cybersnark : (04 December 2019 - 11:38 AM)

I don't think we even really need to see Krypton. I'd start with Clark growing up in Kansas, thinking he's normal, and follow him through the development of his powers. There've been enough alternate takes on Krypton that it could actually work as a mystery; is this the pre-Crisis utopia, the sterile science world, or the relic of a fallen empire? Brainiac was there, and he tempts Clark with the knowledge of what he really is.

@  Otaku : (04 December 2019 - 11:12 AM)

First, a Krypton film, ending with baby Kal-El being found on Earth.  Then Supe's early career film, establishing his values... and if Jonothan Kent needs to die, it happens because of something like a heart attack while Clark is savnig folks on the other side of the world.  After we know Clark minimizes property damage and never kills, have Zod & Company show up and force him to make tough choices.

@  Otaku : (04 December 2019 - 11:07 AM)

Man of Steel seems like someone came up with a Superman trilogy and then the execs said "We've got to catch up to Marvel, make it one film!".  I don't mean that based on the film's actual pacing, but because various story beats make more sense to me if they weren't all squished together.

@  Cybersnark : (03 December 2019 - 07:44 PM)

I've been wanting to write a Superman movie trilogy for years; "Man of Steel" (featuring a Terminator-like Brainiac) was going to be first, with "Last Son of Krypton" (featuring the Eradicator) as the sequel and "Man of Tomorrow" (in which Luthor makes his face-heel turn) as the conclusion. Thanks to Snyder I have to re-arrange my titles.

@  Nevermore : (03 December 2019 - 06:15 PM)

I still wish "Man of Steel" had instead been an adaptation of both the John Byrne miniseries of the same name and the Jeph Loeb/Tim Sale miniseries "Superman For All Seasons".

@  SHIELD Agent 47 : (03 December 2019 - 04:42 PM)

A take I just read: Man of Steel is shot with such a lack of lighting that it is easier to discern what is going on in a porn film.

Because they've given us no reason to love them for some time now, and much reason to wish for them to crash and burn.

Litigation is supposed to be the Last resort, not the first.

I enjoyed the BattleTech cartoon, and was wondering why it wasn't available on DVD. Video game company suing because a cartoon has digital information? Um, it's a cartoon. You make video games. What's the problem? (sigh) I'd have gone with the motion to dismiss right off the bat. Then again, I'm not a lawyer.

Why can't you guys just stop worrying and learn to love Harmony Gold?

Well for me at least - I have literally less than zero interest in Robotech or any of HG's failed attempts at continuing the franchise. The show was before my time, I was born in the mid-1990s, my introduction to the Macross franchise was through renting the Macross Plus DVD from the library when I was like 8 years old in the mid 2000s.

Now there's nothing wrong with people liking Robotech - hey if you do because that's what you grew up with, more power to you, I'm not gonna go around saying 'BLARGH ARGH WHY YOU LIKE THIS SHITTY BASTARDIZATION OF THE JAPANESE MACROSS BLARGH DUB FANS SUCK IT RUINED THE SERIES' because I also won't deny that a lot of Macross fans were probably introduced to the series via Robotech (just like how lots of toku fans were probably introduced to it via Power Rangers and other copycat shows from the 1990s)

But that's why I don't like Harmony Gold - since I have no interest in Robotech, any of their claims of doing something with the franchise are meaningless to me (and let's be honest - not like they even do anything to begin with) - they're just the company that, because of all these legal snarls and other nonsense, is preventing me and other Macross fans from outside Japan from being able to buy or watch these shows legally.

I assume the reference was to "Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb"

Personally, I have never hated Harmony Gold.  However, I loved Shadow Chronicles, and Love Live Alive was actually a pretty good clip show for New Generation (which is still my favorite saga), but my gripe is that they have not expanded since then.  Have gotten quite a few good toys in the meantime, but I love my shows.

I really do not care about any of the lawsuits, though I would not mind if this new deal/extension allows for more Macross to come over.

Robotech lives!

Hello. I'm a new user. I don't post on message boards anymore these days, but I stumbled upon this thread while Googling and saw the post I'm quoting above.

I'm the person who reuploaded that video to YouTube. Seeing it on a message board is the best thing that has happened to me all day. =P So I registered today, just to post my two cents on the Macross/Robotech thing. Maybe I'll hang around this thread often.

I saw Robotech for the first time between the years 2010 and 2013. Someone had recommended it to me like "If you like Transformers, you'll love this". I went in, already knowing that it wasn't an entirely original creation and fully aware that I wasn't going to see Macross, Southern Cross or Mospeada in any of their pure forms. I didn't mind; I was curious.

Sincerely speaking, I loved it instantly. The theme of struggling on until accomplishing one's goals, even after the end of the world (whether literal or figurative), has given me an escape outlet when I'm going through bad spots in life. It also made me start appreciating anime again after almost ten years, and, in an odd way, it has made me feel nostalgic for the days when anime seemed so new and exciting (which, unfortunately, are also the days when anime fans really started becoming loud and self-aggrandizing, at least where I live). If that's not enough, I'm that weirdo who likes Minmei's English voice and song repertoire, and also the Robotech Masters saga.  That should tell you everything. =P

I haven't lost sight of where the origins are, and while I haven't seen the original Macross nor most of the sequels and spinoffs (I have seen DYRL?, and I have a fansub of Frontier lying somewhere around my room; hope the discs haven't degraded...), nor Southern Cross or Mospeada in their original form, I am genuinely interested in all of it as well for the purposes of comparison and contrast. And because I've loved robots all my life.

What I'm trying to say here is that I think both Robotech and Macross can, should, exist at the same time. They both have entertainment value on their own, much like Power Rangers and Super Sentai; and authentic narrative artistic value, even if some of it may have diminished with the passage of time. I think both of them should be appreciated for their merits rather than their shortcomings, and that whether people preferred one or the other (or, like me, both equally for different reasons) should not be a license to dismiss the opposite choice out of hand as some kind of worthless, unknowable abomination.

Others have said earlier in the thread that the ideal situation would be the legal exportation of Macross out of Japan happening concurrently with new Robotech stuff. I agree wholeheartedly. My ideal situation would be for a good anime distributor, one that wasn't a complete and utter scumbag of an IP troll, to buy Robotech off of Harmony Gold's hands, strike a mutually convenient deal with Big West, Studio Nue and Tatsunoko, start exporting Macross, reissue the original series, Southern Cross, Mospeada, and Robotech, and make The Sentinels and The Odyssey. Maybe even strike a deal with whoever owns the IP of Megazone 23, and release Megazone 23 Parts 1, 2 and 3 and make the 1986 Robotech: The Movie the way Carl Macek intended to (if you believe him). It's a long shot, and I don't have any high hopes for it myself... but I have them.

P.S. I had no idea there were apologists for Commander Leonard from Southern Cross. My God. That dude is despicable.

There's probably loads of people that want someone like Netflix to put together a team to make/remake the Robotech saga.  I know that I'm one of them.  But Jesus Christ, Harmony Gold often feels like it's trying to burn any and all good will people have for the franchise.

Unfortunately, fools are often planproof.

I have no problem with Macross, Southern Cross, and Mospeada being separate from but (nearly) equal to Robotech as individual properties. The problem is that Harmony Gold became so litigious and toxic. The best thing that could happen would be for someone to buy the company, and either renegotiate in good faith or relinquish all claims to the property.

It seems unlikely that anything could redeem the soured reputation, however, that HG and Macek have created.

Yeah I'm in a similar boat. I love Robotech, its the first anime I watched knowing it was anime. It will always hold a special place in my heart.

But enough is too much! Harmony Gold has halted the continuation of any related products in the US while also failing to actually use the brand to extend it.

I would have purchased legal media of Macross Frontier and Delta. But I can't because of HG's douchebaggery.

Agreed. This has been my opinion of HG for years now. They are so fanatical about being in absolute control of every minuscule element of what they think they have control of. While simultaneously not really seeming to want to do anything with the license. Everything seems half-hearted.

Well, except for wanting to sue everything they think they can claim is 'infringing' on their rights.

They're sad and desperate. All they have is Robotech but they don't have the brains or resources to do anything viable with the property. They have to stop sitting on it like a cranky, stupid hen and either let someone else help them incubate the egg, or just sell the bastard thing to someone who can actually do something with it.

Edit: though, quite obviously, they will never do either of those things

The kickstarter for Megazone 23 is live and has hit its goal on the first day.
https://www.kickstar...3-omega-edition

Be warned though, they haven't secured the rights to distribute outside the US but are hoping to acquire the rights for Canada and Europe before the end of the campaign.

I'm gonna do a wait n see if they get the rights to Canada before pledging.

much like how a & e put out those dvds a while back i reckon. just one more place to stream it and another set of dvds no one wants to buy for the 1000th time

remember when it FIRST hit dvd and everyone was so excited? now its just "here we go again"
