@  Sabrblade : (18 July 2019 - 12:10 PM)

All this awesome SDCC news is really making these boards run slowly.

Racism must be stopped. No matter the cost.

by now I think this jokes' been creamed.

We have a cornfield? Can I get a few ears?

@  Kalidor : (16 July 2019 - 12:56 PM)

And lastly, if it becomes too much hassle to deal with - it might just get sent into the cornfield and replaced with a Discord box anyway. So cool it.

@  Kalidor : (16 July 2019 - 12:55 PM)

Second thing is we do actually have the ability to ban users specifically from using Shoutbox if it's being abused like that

@  Kalidor : (16 July 2019 - 12:55 PM)

Hey all - just a reminder and heads up. The Shoutbox has been kept here as a courtesy because it's what you folks like in lieu of Discord - but a few things to remember is that P&R should stay in P&R and isn't really something that needs to be dragged out here in the most public of spaces.

@  Nevermore : (16 July 2019 - 11:04 AM)

Done.

@  NotVeryKnightly : (16 July 2019 - 10:25 AM)

You can make a new one. I doubt anybody would stop you.

@  Nevermore : (16 July 2019 - 10:16 AM)

There was a thread but it appears to have disappeared. Might have been lost in one of the older forum sweeps.

@  NotVeryKnightly : (16 July 2019 - 09:58 AM)

Yeah this is pretty much circumventing the fact that we have different rules for political talk.

@  fourteenwings : (16 July 2019 - 09:55 AM)

Okay, so, basically, can we not do politics in here anymore? I mean, considering how often @Nevermore, you talk about your work conditions, don't you think it's time for a dedicated thread in P&R?

@  unluckiness : (16 July 2019 - 09:39 AM)

Scratch that; that's insulting to honest salads. Whatever that was was the text equivalent of hamburger.

@  unluckiness : (16 July 2019 - 09:38 AM)

Would you like some dressing to go with your word salad?

@  Paladin : (16 July 2019 - 09:34 AM)

yes; it now goes "shit piss hug *BLEEP* ^$@^ motherhuger **** turd fart encyclopedia & Socialism."

@  unluckiness : (16 July 2019 - 09:24 AM)

This is an American site, but isn't that unnecessarily severe language? IIRC it's one of the top four offensive pejoratives to English people

@  SHIELD Agent 47 : (16 July 2019 - 08:52 AM)

It's amusing how so many (U.S.) wankers in this world love to whine "capitalism good socialism bad!" in the abstract while simultaneously pretending that megacorporations dominating de facto monopolies is anathema to the core capitalistic principle of competition benefits everyone.

@  unluckiness : (16 July 2019 - 05:17 AM)

I know Shockwave's super mode is pretty lame and Magnus is kinda greebly but it's not that bad.

@  TM2-Megatron : (16 July 2019 - 12:38 AM)

Though with the luck and caliber of leaders we've had of late in the darkest timeline, maybe it's too much to hope for.

@  TM2-Megatron : (16 July 2019 - 12:36 AM)

Just like democracy, it's not perfect but better than the present alternatives. Capitalism as it's practiced today won't be able to weather the coming wave of automation, though. Best to plan for it and hope for a gentle transition rather than the aforementioned collapse

@  unluckiness : (16 July 2019 - 12:27 AM)

Capitalism is the worst amiright? Sent from my iPhone

@  Vexwing : (15 July 2019 - 11:24 PM)

Because the collapse is gonna be just great.

@  TM2-Megatron : (15 July 2019 - 10:41 PM)

Let's hope this is late stage and we're on the cusp of something better.

@  abates : (15 July 2019 - 09:45 PM)

Late stage capitalism is the absolute best.

@  TheMightyMol... : (15 July 2019 - 01:33 PM)

So, welcome to all retail, everywhere.

@  Nevermore : (15 July 2019 - 01:24 PM)

Oh, and Greenpeace also conducted a protest at a German Amazon facility, to protest against Amazon's practice of throwing customer returns in the trash.

@  Nevermore : (15 July 2019 - 01:17 PM)

Right, because with Amazon, it's just the employees that have to step in dog shit while having no space to breathe.[/slightexaggeration]

@  Tm_Silverclaw : (15 July 2019 - 01:03 PM)

At least I can use Amazon without losing the ability to breath or step in dog shit.

@  RichardT1977 : (15 July 2019 - 12:58 PM)

Considering that Amazon is the new Walmart...

@  Nevermore : (15 July 2019 - 12:39 PM)

All of my best wishes go out to the brave women and men who have the balls (and ovaries) to go on strike at an Amazon facility in the US.

Yes, the character designer at first drew a big bulkier more traditional Starscream, but the producer argued that Starscream should have a sharp mind as his advantage, not a physically strong body, so he asked for a more snake-like Screamer. The character designer then did a loose sketch of a snake and drew Starscream's overall shape on top of it.

Hey, whatever works. Prime Starscream is my favorite top-to-bottom interpretation of the idea of Starscream, so clearly several right things were done in the visual design and character development and certainly the casting.

We would be in a better place visually all around if people were more open to more personified character design! So many Soundwave toys that end up mind-numbingly boring thanks to "well the g1 guy was a stack of squares too so..."

For good or ill, Prime Starscream is more or less a Transformer version of this guy

I never understood why he gets stigmatized over that when other voice actors' voices are just as distinctly the same person. I love Peter Cullen, but his most well known roles are Evil!Optimus Prime (Venger), Bored!Optimus Prime (Eeyore), and Actually Optimus Prime.

It all WORKS, of course. It comes down to inflection and emotional range more so than whether or not you can be a vocal chameleon. Not that that's not impressive, it's just not something every voice actor can be.

Anyway.

Robot toys.

One day I would love to hear Cullen do an SG Optimus Prime voice as M Sipher and Trent Troop envision.

Heh, I remember when I thought David Lucas was his real name and Steve Blum was the fake name...  While I am still great at picking out anime (and animation, and many video game) voices, I remember being quite surprised back in the day when I found out that Steve did Guilmon from Digimon Tamers.

It's always welcome whenever Steve Blum and/or voice directors remember it.

The problem with Blum is that hes typecast as Spike Spiegel. Sometimes directors want that badass as their hero so hes stuck doing that voice for the rest of eternity, and sometimes hes miscast.

I just wish directors would let him show his range more. His performance as Guilmon and the sincerity he put in that character made Digimon Tamers as good as it was.

But in the current, digitized world, trivial information is accumulating every second, preserved in all its triteness. Never fading, always accessible. Rumors about petty issues, misinterpretations, slander... All this junk data preserved in an unfiltered state, growing at an alarming rate. It will only slow down social progress, reduce the rate of evolution. You seem to think that our plan is one of censorship. What we propose to do is not to control content, but to create context.

I certainly never would have pegged the dub voice of Falcomon from Digimon Data Squad (Digimon Savers) as having been done by Steve. It's so far removed from any of his usual voices.

I think the concept of being educated and being able to educate is something that more people need more of in their lives.

No, we don't all know everything but we should spread and share that what we do know.

If I'm consistently misspelling a word, I would want and expect people to correct me as should I imagine all decent people who know the value of good literacy.

Its just arrogant laziness to know you're spelling a word incorrectly and not correct yourself or ignore the advice when people do tell you how to spell a word correctly.

The worst case I ever encountered with this was when he was cast in the dub of Dynasty Warriors 5: he voiced three different roles, and all three used "Spike" as the starting point.

Off-topic, but I think Crispin Freeman is in the same boat as Steve Blum with voice director's wanting that same bad ass man voice all the time to the point where it's believed he's only capable of doing that one voice.

Then you realize he's Winston in Overwatch and that fake gay guy in Please Teacher, which both are very distinctly not that Alucard voice.

My favorite Steve Blum role is one of his earliest: voicing Tetsugyu in the first (yes, there's two) English dub of Giant Robo: The Animation, where he plays a stereotypical muscle-brained good-guy, and his attempt can only be described as 'Steve Blum doing his best Cookie Monster impression'.

Just found the legends, deluxe, Voyager assortment at Walmart.

Picked up Jazz Dreadwind Beachcomber and Slash.

I actually really like Starscream's proportions in person, and the wing greebles don't bother me, I almost picked him up but decided it would be wise to see which way Takara goes with him first.

Same thing with the dinobots, at any rate, in CW and TR taught me anything is that wave 1 will hang around forever so that gives me lots of elbow room

Saw my first signs of these guys at Target - just a Jazz and the non-Slash Legends. Picked up Beachcomber (he's good), was pleasantly surprised by Windcharger (left him for later), and will probably not buy Jazz.

Beachcomber uses Vector Prime to time travel and prevent mass-extinction events. So I guess Beachcomber is now, like, the most powerful Autobot.
