@  wonko the sane? : (18 November 2017 - 08:37 AM)

You won't be at school or work anymore... so mitigated success.

@  TheMightyMol... : (17 November 2017 - 05:21 PM)

Just don't try to plug yourself into an outlet. It won't end well.

@  Bass X0 : (17 November 2017 - 04:57 PM)

Trying to stay awake at work or school is a lot like using your controller when it's on low battery

@  Pennpenn : (17 November 2017 - 10:31 AM)

If you're used to doing it with tabs, that makes sense. It doesn't feel weird for me.

@  NotVeryKnightly : (17 November 2017 - 10:28 AM)

Also, it just feels weird if switching between webpages uses the same actions as switching between programs.

@  NotVeryKnightly : (17 November 2017 - 10:21 AM)

I switch between different things on the browser and click on various plugins and stuff far more often than switching from program to program.

@  Pennpenn : (17 November 2017 - 10:19 AM)

Yeah I'm mostly just venting from frustration rather than trying to convince anyone, though @NotVeryNightly I will point out that the windows for the other programs I'm running are at the bottom of the screen as well.

@  NotVeryKnightly : (17 November 2017 - 10:09 AM)

Tabs are on the top, near the address bar, browser tools, plugins and whatnot so the cursor will be there frequently anyway. Switching windows would require going down the screen.

@  Shrug : (17 November 2017 - 10:03 AM)

I mean, you do you. No bigs. You've just got a fairly unique stance that surprised me.

@  Shrug : (17 November 2017 - 09:54 AM)

I haven't seen words on the bottom bar of the screen since XP.

@  Pennpenn : (17 November 2017 - 09:13 AM)

All of which is put on the point that I don't care if people want to use tabs, I just want the option to not have them present for me on my browser.

@  Pennpenn : (17 November 2017 - 09:12 AM)

@Shrug- A quick glance at the bottom of the screen shows me what is open and where. Load times are basically so trivial that the load indicator on a tab is something I didn't notice until you mentioned it. The "which instance is playing noise" is a fair point but has basically only really been approaching meaningful for me maybe twice in all the time tabs have existed.

@  Pennpenn : (17 November 2017 - 09:07 AM)

@NotveryKnightly- I have never encountered a situation where that is true, especially given that tabs are on the other side of the screen to the other things I'm switching through.

@  Pennpenn : (17 November 2017 - 09:06 AM)

@ Nevermore- The windows at the bottom have the names of the websites on them, presuming you don't collapse them.

@  Shrug : (17 November 2017 - 08:08 AM)

Geez, this is reminding me of the awful pre-tab days.

@  Shrug : (17 November 2017 - 08:07 AM)

I can look at the tab to see if it hasn't finished loading yet. Now you can see which tab is playing sound, so no need to hunt through windows to find a video ad that started playing.

@  Shrug : (17 November 2017 - 08:07 AM)

And a quick glance lets me know whats open and where. No clicking multiple windows hunting for something. No waiting for some window preview to pop up (which wasn't available when tabs first started.)

@  NotVeryKnightly : (17 November 2017 - 06:03 AM)

Switching between tabs is way quicker than between windows.

@  Nevermore : (17 November 2017 - 04:09 AM)

It's like having a clear structore with sub-directores, instead of just having all files on your computer stored in one giant directory.

@  Nevermore : (17 November 2017 - 04:08 AM)

This way, I can switch between windows and then select the tab, instead of always trying to remember which window is for which website.

@  Nevermore : (17 November 2017 - 04:07 AM)

I find one browser window with multiple tabs a lot easier to handle alongside other windows than multiple browser windows alongside other windows.

@  Nevermore : (17 November 2017 - 04:06 AM)

I find multiple tabs a lot more comfortable than multiple windows.

@  Nevermore : (17 November 2017 - 04:06 AM)

erm... no?

@  Pennpenn : (17 November 2017 - 03:26 AM)

On mobile devices and whatever I understand why tabs would be a thing, but on a full desktop browser it's just- "Hey, here's a thing that's kind of like opening a new window, but objectively worse in every practical way"

@  SHIELD Agent 47 : (17 November 2017 - 01:41 AM)

Someone remind me again: which versions of the CW Hot Spot mold did not suffer from bad hip ratcheting?

@  BlackMax : (16 November 2017 - 06:33 PM)

Holy crap I just pushed the F11 key for the first time on a keyboard since about 1994.

@  Shrug : (16 November 2017 - 01:11 PM)

tabs being wretched bs is definitely an opinion I've never seen before

@  RC85747 : (16 November 2017 - 08:25 AM)

Vivaldi lets you hide the tab bar

@  Pennpenn : (16 November 2017 - 07:45 AM)

Yeah but that gets rid of everything else as well.

@  Pennpenn : (16 November 2017 - 04:15 AM)

I get that people like tabs. Fine. Whatever. I just detest the fact that most current browsers don't let you have the option of just hiding the bar away so I don't have to even think about the wretched bullshit things.

@  Pennpenn : (16 November 2017 - 04:06 AM)

Does anyone know of a browser that doesn't force tabs on you? Just... any sodding browser that doesn't have tabs.

@  Telly : (16 November 2017 - 01:59 AM)

@  MEDdMI : (15 November 2017 - 06:39 PM)

Do you still have those drawings?

@  BlackMax : (15 November 2017 - 06:31 PM)

I think lesbian ninjas is just an unmitigated good idea. *shrug*

@  Devcon : (15 November 2017 - 05:56 PM)

@  Strafe : (15 November 2017 - 04:05 PM)

"Someone" being me. No mystery to it, I used to draw a lot during class when I was in high school. I came up with lesbian ninjas, which were a specialized team of assassins with amazing hair and impeccable style. I scanned some of my drawings and mentioned them a few times on the ezboard 17 years ago, and people seemed to like the idea.

@  Copper Bezel : (15 November 2017 - 01:05 PM)

Thanks in any case!

@  Copper Bezel : (15 November 2017 - 01:05 PM)

Oh, wow. That is ages ago.

@  Telly : (15 November 2017 - 01:03 PM)

ages ago meaning when the spark was still on ezboard

@  Telly : (15 November 2017 - 01:02 PM)

i think maybe it was part of a title of a movie someone posted ages ago and the "lesbian ninja" part stood out and people just latched on to it. please note this is possibly totally and completely wrong cause my memory is terrible anymore

@  Copper Bezel : (15 November 2017 - 12:11 PM)

I don't think it's a fandom thing, I think it's an Allspark thing. Or that's been my perception. Mayhem has some lesbian ninja regulars now but I think the reference is much older. = ]

@  Robowang : (15 November 2017 - 11:02 AM)

Who knows. I always thought it was stupid.

@  RichardT1977 : (15 November 2017 - 10:31 AM)

What is this fandom's deal with lesbian ninjas? Is it some fantheory about Nightbird or something?

@  OrionPax44 : (15 November 2017 - 08:26 AM)

Huh my phone didn't even alert me for some reason. Guess it only does on the Mayhem Discord Hangouts??

@  BlackMax : (14 November 2017 - 09:41 PM)

Telly, you are FIRED as my PR agent. :D

@  Telly : (14 November 2017 - 09:05 PM)

So... is the RID line mostly done this time, or will there be another subline imprint?

About a year ago, I started this thread, in which I assumed that because pretty much all RID toys that had either been officially revealed by Hasbro, or leaked through the RID mobile game, had been released in some market at that time, the line was mostly finished.

Hasbro then proved me wrong by announcing the "Combiner Force" subline imprint, which is by this point at least a close tie with the previous subline imprint, "Mini-Con Weaponizers", in terms of sheer output of product released under the branding.

We've currently reached yet another point where nearly all figures we know about have been released somewhere in the world, with the only ones currently still unaccounted for being One-Step Changer Soundwave and Team Combiner Galvatronus.

And while I still think there must have been a reason for the drastic shift in focur for the RID toyline from introducing Mini-Cons, to making Mini-Cons the focus of an entire subline imprint, to dropping Mini-Cons almost entirely in favor of a completely different gimmick (and, again, the fact that the final two waves of the single-pack Mini-Cons were only released at clearance chains in the US, while the Weaponizer single packs have never been reported found at US retail at all), I won't make the same mistake again and prematurely predict the end of the line, especially since there currently doesn't seem to be any price point that's severely lagging behind in terms of retail release.

Whether you like it or not, the RID line has already endured for an impressive two and a half years, having been extended via two fully-fledged subline imprints that allowed several price points that have been there since the launch of the line at the end of 2014 to reach wave numbers in the lower double digits, which by itself is a fairly impressive feat.

Just for some perspective, the Titans Return line has also reached the point where nearly all the figures we know about have been released in one form or another, and San Diego Comic-Con is just around the corner.

So my question is: What do you think? Is RID done for good this time? Will Hasbro announce a successor at SDCC? Or will they surprise us again by announcing yet another gimmick-based subline imprint completely out of the left field? Or will they just extend Combiner Force and call it a day?

It's really too early to say. They'll extend the line if they do another season of the show, but we don't know if they'll do that. (They might do one more to pad things out before the Boulder Media show.)

It is the show that never ends. It just goes on and on my friends. Some people started watching it, not knowing what it was, and they'll continue watching it forever just because this is the show that never ends...

I think its likely that the RID toyline has run its course from Hasbro's propective and its time for a new gimmick of some kind to take its place, not that I bought any of the RID stuff, its pretty likely the latest reboot is on the horzion, TF lines don't last very long these days because they like to keep things fresh and try and prevent what happened to G1 where things stagnated, thou that was also largely down to the show ending its run.

Is it wrong that I want the line to last long enough to give us a repaint and remold of Blurr into a new character? Or at least a different one?

If the show's hit 65 episodes after Combiner Force, maybe

Assuming Combiner force gets a full season (or a 3 and 3.5), it would indeed surpass 65 episodes (even a shorter 13 episode season would take the count to 58 episodes, and the second season was technically 19 episodes)

I think Hasbro's non-committal slide from the investor info speaks volumes. It indicated Transformers animated content for the 5-10 (ish) range was slated for 2018 and 2019, but unlike Rescue Bots, didn't maintain a branding.

My belief is that 2.5-3 years, somewhere around (or beyond) 65 episodes of animated content, a modestly successful app integration...I can see Hasbro wrapping it and developing a new concept. We know Boulder Studios is working on a new series, and it is rare for us to hear of new series more than a year or so out. And given broader market trends, RiD is reaching a successful "end date" for its branding (Disney's Ultimate Spider-Man wrapped last year after 4-odd years and 104 episodes, and is being replaced by the "Homecoming" inspired series this fall).

All of that spooled out my head...I can see this being RiD's final year. We might see a last gasp next spring (maybe some reruns of Warrior and Legion figures that have been out of cirulation for a while like Jazz and Sideswipe), but with the reported "more modest" Bumblebee film next year, Hasbro would be in a solid spot to launch a major new mainstream animation project. Though, I could also see (depending on distribution venue for the next series and performance of RiD this year alongside TLK) Hasbro taking a "victory lap" through all of next year, relying on the Netflix reruns and reused assets to eek out a cheap filler year (an unlikely scenario IMO)

That said, I don't feel we've seen all the remainder of the year for Combiner Force. I figure at least another couple of Legion, Warrior and ONe Step waves, and another batch for the other assortments beyond what we've seen.

I also don't expect Hasbro to reveal anything about the next series until at LEAST HasCon, if not next Toy Fair. Since collectors OBVIOUSLY don't care about all this kiddie crap.

I'm hoping for more. It's been a fun and varied line (set of sublines?) for kids, with occasional Warrior stuff for old farts like me who are set in their ways. So set, in fact, that I still want this line to give me a damn Warrior Springload (because those KO guys who upsize everything seemingly won't touch kiddie stuff, aside from the first wave of RID)...

I still think the kid focus line would benefit from the customisation stuff they keep putting into Generations.

That or paint. Good word do RID toys need paint. Windblade looks like a prototype, not a completed retail toy.

I would very much like RID to keep going, even if it won't give us toys of a lot of the Decepticons, but my gut feeling is that it's winding down. There are probably waves for this year we haven't seen yet - I hope - but I'd be inclined to bet against 2018 RID product.

I would also be inclined to bet against the next series being a continuation of Aligned, also despite my wishes. Maybe it'll be a new movieverse-inspired show, or something entirely new...but God it feels like the Hasbro zeitgeist is for a limp G1 remake that everyone hates anyway for not being enough like [preferred existing G1 of choice].

I don't mind if RiD wraps up so much (not that I don't like it, but all good things...). I am hopeful that whatever follows is still in Aligned, though... if only because I'm happy that the war is over and done with and I don't want them to reboot with that as their starting point again.

This franchise has shown that it can do so much more in recent years, and I'm worried that if nothing else, the temptation to "go back to what works" might be too great for the powers that be if they decide to start completely anew.

Amazon Canada also has listings, but "currently unavailable":
Twinferno
Bludgeon
Thermidor

Also included in this wave are re-releases of Warrior Bumblebee in his original 2014 deco (which was already re-released in "Mini-Con Weaponizers"-style packaging) and Power Surge Optimus Prime (the non-TRU exclusive deco).

Meanwhile, Smyths (UK retailer) has listings for Twinferno and Bludgeon.
