Newer to getting convention exclusives in Canada, anyway. Previously, I was too broke to even entertain the thought -- which probably still colors my thinking at this point, though reading the other posts here has helped (though there's still the matter of seeing if my wife will go for it -- now a tougher challenge). Are you new to living in Canada? Exchange rates mean you always end up paying more than the US retail--in this case roughly 20%, not the "nearly 100" you cited earlier.
So... the entire reason I might consider buying it myself at a convention instead of just importing it or something is effectively negated?
And getting it at a convention still requires you to travel to and pay to get into said convention, in addition to any other costs. In terms of pure numbers that will always be the most expensive option.
I'm not trying to pick on you (I don't think anyone is really), but no one understands why you're upset about this either. Maybe there's something missing from your thought process here. From my perspective at least, it looks like you thought you were going to walk into a convention in Canada and pay the US price.
That said, 20 percent of 50 is 10, so if it was only a 20 percent markup, wouldn't it only be $60? $80 is... maybe not twice the price, but more than 20, yes?
Edit: And I think I figured out where I might have gone wrong, I'll double check later.
And side note: I'm not paying anything to go to this thing, so those costs don't factor in.
Looks like if I can grab one, I'm getting it. Thanks, all!
