Now I've been working permanent late shift for almost three years. Don't regret it one bit. One of the rare cases where the needs of the company overlap with my own preferences.
Before the permanent late shift was introduced three years ago (which I volunteered for as soon as the form became available), I always tended to plan my vacation for early shift weeks. Since the majority of the people in most departments prefer to work early shift and thus tended to plan their vacation for late shift weeks, there were usually enough slots available for me to get my request fulfilled.
I was promoted last December, so this past year is my first with the company where I've been able to get whatever vacation I wanted. Instead of competing with 100 other people, there's now only 1 (out of 3 others who share my job) that's been in the building longer than me, and so has first dibs at weeks. It's pretty easy to work it out between ourselves before we give in our requests, though
The current series of direct to video movies is mostly based on the comics and is not related to the old DCAU at all. Some of them take 16-20 issues of a comic and compress them down to 75 minutes of animation. Unrelated to either is the Unlimited setting, which turned out a few movies and a bunch of toys but seems to have run its course. And they seem to be trying to make the Batman 66 stuff more than a one-shot.
Looks like the only good direct to video DC cartoons these days are the Lego ones.
Nope. I don't even think that this is Timmverse either. I think that it is its own thing.
It couldn't be any more blatantly Timmverse. They just don't specifically acknowledge that, so they have an excuse to get around the "You're ruining my childhood!" people.
But, regardless of what they say on the record, in the most practical and reasonable sense, it's pretty much Timmverse, with some deliberate childhood-ruining perversions.
I thought Nightwing was involved with Starfire in this new DCAU (at least that seemed to be the case in Justice League vs Teen Titans)? So I'm guessing, whatever ambiguity about it the creators have left, this isn't really canon with the main DCAU.
You're confused. JL vs Teen Titans is part of the animated new 52 continuity which is distinctly separate from the old DCAU. Batman Harley is a stand-alone that capitalizes on but is not actually linked to the old DCAU.
Ah, I just figured people were calling these new animated movies (everything since Flashpoint, anyway) the DCAU now. There's a "DC Universe" boxset coming out soon that contains all of them.
Sorry if this was already posted, but there's a mid-credits and a post-credits scene.
Overall, don't spend money on this. Catch it whenever it arrives free on streaming services.
I've heard this way too many times to ignore it. I have it on my Netflix DVD queue. It says long wait and it was discounted to $16 at Best Buy. So I was tempted. But then I remember everything said about it and though...hug it. Long wait be damned. I'm waiting. And I'm not really looking forward to it so much the more I hear to be honest.

I wasn't adverse to doing a DCAU/Timmverse film that could poke fun at itself. And early on...there were some legitimately good bits...but every good "bit" is crapped on by something that I either rolled my eyes at or just pissed me off...often right together! FAR too much of this felt like a pure indulgence to Timm and the crew...for their own amusement. It took itself too seriously for a comedy, yet was too eager to stick in any old bit of comedy it could scrap together. And much of it hung pretty low on the tree, so to speak. There was some solid ideas at play in the overall story...but the film itself never seemed sure of what it really wanted to do.
But the point I went "Meh" to "Oh for hugs sake" was the henchmen shack. I was all over the easter eggs and in jokes, regardless the sense it made, even if it spent FAR too much time INDULGING in song sequences. But then the henchmen obviously ganged up on the heroes...for Batman to hork down a glass of milk (?), DROP HIS GODDAMN UTILITY BELT and smile like a sadistic bastard to beat them up to 60s style exclamations over a damn still shot of the exterior. And just minutes before we spent several minutes and a fairly elaborate "chase sequence" for Harley to attack a schoolmate that stuck her up. REALLY?
The film is FULL of shit like this: a solid sequence or set up...flushed down the toilet for cheap gags.
WTF?!
Feels like a longstanding issue anymore: a creator comes to fame making or reinterpreting classic material in a new and popular way. Then they ride this success to future projects where they have less and less oversight...and we get crap like this.
Saw it in the Killing Joke adaption. In the Star Wars prequels. IN pretty much anything Frank Miller has produced over the last 20 years. If it isn't some sort of meme, it should be.
I went and rented it off of Amazon. Admittedly it looks like I had seen the majority of it on someone's YouTube channel save for a couple of scenes . Frankly I enjoyed it. It was an aged up and lengthened Batman TAS episode. Too many call backs to say otherwise. One can consider it non canonical but it was a fun romp to me. Sure the bedroom scene with Harley and Nightwing was there but it wasn't even close to as bad as some have made it out. Sure Dick hesitates for understandable reasons, but you can't tell me he wasn't willing.
And really other than a few fart jokes I had a good time with the flick. Sure it was a bit out of character considering the strong TAS leanings and the ending was just huh?! But it's meant to be more of a comedy than anything else. And with Harley starring why would you expect otherwise?
Harley has serious eps. Not just Mad Love with her origin. Harliquinade (spelling) had her entertain in a club too but had a real dark ending that bothered me as a kid. (when she was threatening to shoot the Joker and he was daring her, saying she would never go against him etc etc then she actually pulls the trigger! Shocking that they had her shoot him in the face. Of course, it was the wrong gun but they both didn't know that. But even more twisted that Joker welcomed her gleefully into his arms, I guess cuz he knew she was just as crazy. Couldn't quite wrap my young head around their damage relationship dynamic.
Actually, I kinda enjoyed the henchmen guess who's who and, surprisingly, I enjoyed hearing the twins' song. If it wasn't for the atrocious dancing animation (ye gods), I would have thought it a highlight.
Nightwing's jerk motion surprised me more than the him getting excited in bed.

Well, in spite of the fact that the list said "long wait," I just got an email saying it's been sent.

<sarcasm>oh yay I can hardly wait this is going to be so much fun </sarcasm>
The thing is, the perverted side was always there...just restrained. It started peeking out in The New Batman Adventures and he alluded to it in Beyond, but it was his "help" with the Killing Joke that made everyone realize that it wasn't some uncomfortable/awkward bit of history...this man has a ship and dammit is he going to share it with the world.
There once was a man named Bruce Timm And everyone used to love him But he made some bad flicks Now everyone's sick Of that creepy old pervert Bruce Timm

Still not sure why this is surprising. Naughty and Nice: The Good Girl Art of Bruce Timm was published like 5 years ago
What the ever loving hug did I just watch? Like...seriously! What...the ever loving hug...did I just watch?
I mean, I would just write an essay for the next few pages doing my own personal Cinema Sins of this whole thing, but that would kill me. KILL...ME...!
I mean, I knew it was going to be bad...but...damn! I mean...damn!
I would say so. But I seem to be the odd one out here. I like cartoons and all but I don't usually consider them serious business. By all means this wasn't a good movie but it's not as bad as everyone here seems to be making it out as.
It really is bad. And as much as it pains me to say it, the Nightwing/Harley sex thing wasn't even the worst of it, though that's pretty bad too. They bullied and basically blackmailed Harley into joining even though she was only trying to live the straight life after a life of crime, Batman kept treating her like shit even though (again) she was trying to straighten out her life, a long chase scene that predictably goes nowhere and could have been cut, a long driving scene from point A to B that could have been significantly cut down, fart joke sequence (I never thought I'd say the words 'fart joke' in a sentence in relation to a Batman movie, but, hey, here we are), a deus ex machina that goes nowhere...and you never see the villain defeated. They come up with the plan and...CUT TO MOTHER HUGGING BLACK!!!!
Oh...and also...
Spoiler
Ivy changes sides because Harley brings the waterworks. Are...you...hugging...KIDDING ME?!?!?
It's bad. It's just really bad. So much could've been cut and made absolutely no difference to the "plot." If it were funny stuff, I'd have been okay with it. But I never laughed once and more often than not was just face palming.
