I'll probably try waving treats in front of her and whistling it, see if I can encourage it

@  Ashley : (23 October 2019 - 12:14 AM)

I'll try. She's not the most obedient bird, so it's going to take some work to get her to do it on demand.

@  wonko the sane? : (22 October 2019 - 10:03 PM)

In fact; we demand video.

@  MEDdMI : (22 October 2019 - 09:26 PM)

Now you have to get it on video

@  Ashley : (22 October 2019 - 08:11 PM)

I'm so proud

@  Ashley : (22 October 2019 - 08:11 PM)

My parrot just whistled the Transformers theme music

@  Steevy Maximus : (22 October 2019 - 06:10 PM)

Yeah, I think both are too old and too expensive at this stage. Hasbro/Paramount are going to try for younger actors that can do multiple films AND can be locked into a multifilm contract cheaply

@  Paladin : (22 October 2019 - 06:05 PM)

so he'd probably be sixty by the time they get to another GI Joe project.

@  Patch : (22 October 2019 - 06:04 PM)

According to Wikipedia he's 51.

@  Paladin : (22 October 2019 - 05:38 PM)

isn't Crews like sixty now???

@  wonko the sane? : (22 October 2019 - 02:11 PM)

... I could get behind that.

@  RichardT1977 : (22 October 2019 - 12:33 PM)

Who thinks that, in the event of a GI Joe cinematic reboot, John Cena and Terry Crews would be perfect for Duke and Roadblock, respectively?

@  Telly : (21 October 2019 - 05:17 PM)

@  Shrug : (21 October 2019 - 04:59 PM)

I've barely used them over the years, so I'm sure they won't miss me, but I'm done too. Thankfully Pulse put up the Seacons today.

@  Telly : (21 October 2019 - 04:58 PM)

i didnt complete it, which is why this is confusing and pi$$ing me off. theres no record of it in my order history. i emailed them about it, so we will see what happens. either way, i think im done using them after this

@  Shrug : (21 October 2019 - 04:55 PM)

Either we're both unlucky or they're trying to force payment now for these takaratomy mall exclusives.

@  Shrug : (21 October 2019 - 04:55 PM)

I asked them to kindly undo that and I got a sternly worded email about how I should use their website right.

@  Shrug : (21 October 2019 - 04:55 PM)

Yeah, if you completed the order, they charged you the money now. Mine said stack before I finished checking out. I only noticed I was charged because of Paypal.

@  Telly : (21 October 2019 - 04:53 PM)

i wasnt even wanting to pay now. i was going to add them to my stack but i didnt get the chance after i was done setting up paypal

@  Shrug : (21 October 2019 - 04:53 PM)

If you haven't officially placed the order, I don't think so? Although, I had to request a cancellation with them last week because their system changed details about my order after I placed it, so I don't exactly trust them.

@  Telly : (21 October 2019 - 04:51 PM)

so im not actually being charged then?

@  Shrug : (21 October 2019 - 04:48 PM)

So, if you were one click away from purchasing, then they probably did the pre-authorization already. The next click will charge you the money now.

@  Shrug : (21 October 2019 - 04:47 PM)

TFsource charges upfront for regular pre-orders.

@  Telly : (21 October 2019 - 04:45 PM)

i was considering buying the upcoming seacons from tfsource. i had them in my cart and was on the checkout page. i set up a credit card through paypal, and before i even hit the "place order" button, i got a text saying that a charge or hold was placed on my card! is this normal? is it just checking to see if i have the money? why did it do it before i even placed the order??

So whenever he addresses his troops, he keeps cracking jokes. Sometimes these jokes are about the blunders he himself had made in his speech the previous day.

@  Nevermore : (19 October 2019 - 01:01 PM)

At the moment, I'm blessed with a pretty nice superior. He's got a military background, but he takes an oddly entertaining approach to it. Imagine a stand-up comedian who accidentally enlisted as a drill sergeant.

@  Nevermore : (19 October 2019 - 12:54 PM)

Another type of everyday absurdity: Imagine you're leaving your workplace for your lunchbreak. Upon your return, you discover that your workplace has been cordened and/or gated off during your break, with "construction site" warning signs everywhere. You go to your superior and tell him: "I can no longer access my workplace! Why is there suddenly a construction site?" Your superior takes a surpised look and says: "I don't know, first time I see this." You figure: "Must be a Tuesday, then."

@  Nevermore : (19 October 2019 - 12:51 PM)

It's kind of surreal, really.

@  Nevermore : (19 October 2019 - 12:50 PM)

They agree that things are less than ideal, but they acknowledge that their scope of making decisions is limited. Oddly, I keep getting that regardless of how high up the chain of command I bother people.

"I hear you, but you know how it is, there's nothing I can do about it." That's it, basically.

What's it like to have management that's willing to listen to things they don't want to hear? I've never seen that.

@  Nevermore : (19 October 2019 - 04:41 AM)

I manage to argue within the company's own internal logic and point out the flaws, shortcomings and discrepancies between "official company policy" and "everyday company reality".

@  Nevermore : (19 October 2019 - 04:40 AM)

Many of my coworkers are scared to even talk to managers. I often discuss company matters with them I disagree with, and it isn't a rare occurrence that they say "yeah, you're right..."

@  Nevermore : (19 October 2019 - 04:38 AM)

I know how to watch my tone, and I prefer to keep things straightforward and factual, never to attack the person, always the problem itself.

@  Nevermore : (19 October 2019 - 04:37 AM)

The good thing for me is ever since a minor hiccup many years ago when I was still non-permanent, I've always managed to along just fine with my various superiors (I've been through over a dozen already). And that's despite my outspokenness, my blunt honesty and my oftentimes harsh criticism.

@  Sabrblade : (18 October 2019 - 11:04 PM)

Amazon in the US has pretty good benefits, though, and even the temp workers had forty hours a week to start with. Even with minimum wage, that's pretty good pay.

@  Nevermore : (18 October 2019 - 01:20 AM)

Oh, the turnover rates are high here as well.

@  TM2-Megatron : (17 October 2019 - 09:45 PM)

Amazon.com and .ca, on the other hand, can be pretty terrible. I know from your squawkbox posts that you guys have your issues with Amazon over there, although you're lucky to have stronger government regulations and a union there. I gather the warehouse workers in the USA and Canada have it pretty crappy, with very high turnover, close to minimum wage pay, and no unions

@  TM2-Megatron : (17 October 2019 - 09:38 PM)

Amazon.de doesn't really have the same issue. I've ordered from them (and UK, FR, IT and JP) several times, and their packaging is much better

It does, but "here's what a bunch of dudes you never met did in the olden days" is generally less compelling a concept than "here's what happened to your beloved heroes next".

Which is no measure of quality obviously. But I think it's a common and reasonable position to take.

They had the Skeksis 'Mmmmmmmmm' at the end.

I m now very ready to be proven wrong about my misgivings with this prequel series.

I assume that was specifically the Chamberlain. I think he was the only one with that specific vocal tic.

Should be a cool prequel series to a classic fantasy that is one of my favorite movies for 33 years since i was 4 and i have the 2-disc CD soundtrack, poster, comics, graphic novels, Skeksil action figure, DVD, blu-ray and UltraHD bluray. Looks awesome and it's one of my most anticipated shows of the year since i'm a huge fan of the original since i was a kid! looks like a labor of love and a passion project with the right balance, budget and all that just like Blade Runner 2049 of being true to the source materal instead of being a half-assed moneygrab itaking a shit nsult to a franchise like Critters A New Binge, the sequels after Aliens (which was the last Alien film worth a damn), Predators/The Predator, stinkbusters 2016, new Star Wars films, Robocop 3/the tv show and miniseries/Robocrap 2014 and all that.

And there we go, young, non-decrepit, youthful Skeksis, exactly what I was hoping to see.  I will have to check at home later to see which ones are shown, and if any new ones are there.

The Gourmand, Ornamentalist, Chamberlain, Gathim Master and the Scientist are at the very least fully visible in the trailer from what I saw.

Just watched the trailer and it looks pretty good but mind you, I've not seen the original movie its a prequel to, I was only 1 when that came out, so if I did, my memory is extremely foggy as that was a long time ago, but NOT in a galaxy far, far away!

I would not be surprised if a lot more of that is practical that one would expect.  Like my expectation is a sort of LotR-esque combination of practical effects, miniatures and CG where needed.

And holy shit does it look stunning.  I am so stoked for this series... just like holy shit.

Yeah I bet anything that could be practical effects is. That they're just using CG to enhance things or for background types of things.

Looks really good.

Here's a comic con sneak preview with brief behind the scenes.

And here's the final trailer

Who thinks this looks epic and a worthy prequel to a classic? i mean it looks like there's actual passion, love and all for the original and this project by the filmmakers.

Anyone glad practical effects have made a comeback with Child's Play 2019, Blade Runner 2049, Shape of Water and this?

"As a filmmaker, one of my earliest influences was Jim Henson’s masterpiece The Dark Crystal, a movie that brought to life a universe rich in detail and teeming with incredible characters. The creativity in the film was limitless and groundbreaking for that time, restricted only by the special effects tools of its day.
As I envision Age of Resistance, I am most excited about joining today’s film techniques with the practical visual effects that are such an integral part of The Dark Crystal – the artistry, the craftsmanship, the performances, and of course the puppets! It is a gift and an honor to work alongside the teams at The Jim Henson Company and Netflix, the artists at Jim Henson’s Creature Shop, and the Frouds, as we begin this new adventure, diving deeper into the world of Thra and working hard to bring fans all they have hoped for.
– Louis Leterrier (Executive producer and show developer and director of the series)".

You heard it here from the director's mouth! it's an actual passion project made by a filmmaker who actually knows what's doing and like Denis villeneuve was to Blade Runner whom he has been a fan of BR all his life and when a sequel was greenlighted, he was passionate about doing the impossible of a sequel no one thought of as he deeply respected the world/ideas/characters of Blade Runner especially Deckard with his amazing sequel.

That's the thing if your gonna bring back a retro movie or property back, you have to have a fine filmmaker who has passion to do something like this as Louis grew up with the original movie since he was a kid seeing it at the movies when it came out in France in 1983 and he loved it as it was one of the movies that influenced him to make movies along with the classic Star Wars trilogy, Jaws and more.

It's not something like Ghostbusters which was an obvious corporate cash-in where Paul Feig didn't give a flying damn about the property nor any passion for the franchise and did the movie for the paycheck to fill in his pockets and it was an insulting disaster of a film in 2016 or that Elm Street remake where Samuel Bayer who had little experience when only doing videos as he did it only for a paycheck and didn't give a damn about the property.

No, it's nothing like that but that's an important thing is you need to have actual passion for a property to make it work and this new show looks like a winner due to it. this series looks to be made to really honor and expand on the movie rather than just cash in like so many other franchises.i mean it's getting huge buzz, positive responses, big interests, solid cast, huge anticipation from Sci-fi/fantasy fans like myself who want something now that Game of Thrones has ended as it and The Witcher are hugely anticipated netflix fantasy shows even HBO's Watchmen and His Dark Materials. It's getting advertising, merchandise even books and all, it's gonna be a blockbuster series among fans and newcomers/a new generation of fans who are interested in the world of the dark crystal even the history of the world before Jen and Kira came along.

And once it becomes a huge hit on netflix, i guaranteed it will usher a new age of puppetry and animatronics and practical effects into hollywood and i hear two more seasons are coming. And it looks much better than star Wars episode 9.

Anyone senses a Demolition Man vibe with the idea that the Skeksis were kind and good just like Cocteau from that movie and Rian is like Edgar Friendly who can see there is greed, corruption, abuse of power and all that to the so called benevolent leader and the gelflings are like the scraps from that movie?

It looks epic and should be Netflix's Game of Thrones in terms of an epic fantasy series in scope and storytelling

it is amazing.

I can see modern storytelling tropes with a veneer of DC.

Sad thing is that I can not get too invested in the characters because I have seen the Dark Crystal, and I know how it has to end for most of these characters.
