@  unluckiness : (21 July 2018 - 10:38 PM)

I have the green one and it's more or less okay. One side has louder clicks but it was like that form the get go

@  Shrug : (21 July 2018 - 05:23 PM)

Well, his gold isn't quite the color I associate with GPS and I see little, if any swirling in it. But hip ratchets in gold plastic that loudly clicked once only to be suddenly silenced. Hrmm. Messing with it now, one leg has no ratcheting and the other ratchets at something like 80 degrees apart.

@  Nevermore : (21 July 2018 - 03:37 PM)

I like that figure. :(

@  Nevermore : (21 July 2018 - 03:37 PM)

@  Shrug : (21 July 2018 - 02:11 PM)

Anyone have experience with HFTD Seaspray? I just bought a used one (for a buck!) and all his hip ratchets broke on first movement. Does he just generally have fragile ratchets or is GPS starting?

@  TheMightyMol... : (20 July 2018 - 08:01 AM)

No Decepticons. It's Autobots Civil War.

@  Gryllid : (20 July 2018 - 07:55 AM)

New York Comic Con is in October, maybe there?

@  Nevermore : (20 July 2018 - 05:49 AM)

So.. thus far, Hasbro only revealed Autobots for Siege. Any ideas which show they will reveal the Decepticons at?

@  Nevermore : (20 July 2018 - 05:44 AM)

So where did the "Stege" logo come from? All I can find is Sipher posting it an making fun of it. Where did that inconvenient version originate?

@  Sabrblade : (19 July 2018 - 11:53 PM)

True. But it was due to Transformers' use of the name that Saban at the time couldn't use it.

@  Tm_Silverclaw : (19 July 2018 - 11:38 PM)

But that's not necessarily a reference, just an attempt to use "Technobable" name.

@  Sabrblade : (19 July 2018 - 10:57 PM)

It's not Power Rangers, but Saban's VR Troopers was originally going to be titled "Cybertron".

@  Tm_Silverclaw : (19 July 2018 - 09:26 PM)

@paladin Energon would be too obvious. That's why I like Ore-13. It's not overt.. but still a nice nod.

@  Paladin : (19 July 2018 - 08:05 PM)

the original Sentai called it "Enetron." all they have to change is ONE LETTER.

@  Tm_Silverclaw : (19 July 2018 - 06:26 PM)

@saberblade True.. But I don't know.. I just want something simple like the "Energy source" in Beast Morphers to be Ore-13 or something like that.

@  Sabrblade : (19 July 2018 - 05:41 PM)

@Tm_Silverclaw: Operation Overdrive did have a weapon called the "Transtech Armor" ;)

@  SHIELD Agent 47 : (19 July 2018 - 04:49 PM)

*sigh* This is going to be a long subline.

@  SHIELD Agent 47 : (19 July 2018 - 04:49 PM)

I already hate the overuse of "STEGE".

@  Tm_Silverclaw : (19 July 2018 - 04:16 PM)

I just want Power Ranger refferenes in TF and Vice versa now.

@  Onyxstrike : (19 July 2018 - 11:32 AM)

I think Hasbro might be after more than just my money this time around with these reveals.

@  Otaku : (18 July 2018 - 02:39 PM)

@TheMightyMollusk Thanks for clarifying.

@  TheMightyMol... : (18 July 2018 - 12:34 PM)

@Otaku, most people were oblivious. The smart ones did their emergency shopping the day before, so there wasn't much left anyway.

@  MEDdMI : (18 July 2018 - 09:37 AM)

@wonko Only happened a few times and I don't remember the exact details, but yeah.

@  Otaku : (18 July 2018 - 08:06 AM)

@TheMightyMollusk Is that really the same thing? I mean, it is if the people were casually shopping and oblivious to the danger to them or the employees of the store, but if they were desperately trying to get needed supplies themselves... or am I just supposed to be smart enough to know you wouldn't have brought it up if it wasn't the former? >_<

@  wonko the sane? : (18 July 2018 - 07:59 AM)

Okay, what? I've had to explain why the TV wouldn't work when the power is out to children, but never to an adult in their right mind.

@  MEDdMI : (18 July 2018 - 07:44 AM)

@  TheMightyMol... : (18 July 2018 - 03:11 AM)

We had people still trying to shop while we were being pushed by state police to shut the store down due to flooding. The police finally had to help herd them out.

@  MEDdMI : (17 July 2018 - 07:36 PM)

Or working for an airline and people complaining about not being able to take off in severe weather, and expecting us to know when the bad weather will end. *points at window*

@  MEDdMI : (17 July 2018 - 07:34 PM)

Outages/fire alarms are fun when you work retail and people complain that they can't keep shopping.

@  Echowarrior : (17 July 2018 - 07:11 PM)

Outages occasionally happened at the fulfillment center I used to work at. Never fun.

@  Nevermore : (17 July 2018 - 04:51 PM)

Apparently the early shift (i.e. those who didn't participate in the walkout) were sitting in the cafeteria, waiting for power to return, while the late shift couldn't even enter the building.

@  wonko the sane? : (17 July 2018 - 04:18 PM)

Oh, wow. I thought the news about the website outtage would have been the topper, but that pretty much wins.

@  Nevermore : (17 July 2018 - 04:14 PM)

Whoopsie.

@  Nevermore : (17 July 2018 - 04:14 PM)

First the union called for a two-day strike yesterday, and then today the entire city where the Amazon warehouse I work at is located apparently had a power outage.

@  Nevermore : (17 July 2018 - 04:14 PM)

So,uh. Seems like Amazon's Prime Day really didn't go well this year.

I post stuff in Beast Mayhem, but it's nothing TF related, or even robots/vehicles. So I guess I'm not sure if anyone outside of Beast Mayhem would even be interested in seeing that stuff. We also started doing weekly art challenges over there, so maybe that's something we can do in the Art forums, too.

I discussed this with a few people in the pony art thread a while back. A lot of us would use the art forums if we felt welcome here. It really feels like unless you're good and draw robots, your art isn't welcome. There is a level of intimidation that exists. It really seems like people would rather post in the forums they feel their art will be most accepted.

No way! Pony and Mayhem alike are welcome no matter what the content is.

I WANT everyone to converge here with whatever art they want. As long as it's not overly sexualized stuff that borders MA content, it's fair game.

Even for me, I've been veering towards a lot of non-tf stuff in the news and forums like D&D and such.

No way! Pony and Mayhem alike are welcome no matter what the content is.

From the time I've been here, there's always been a bit of a TFD/Mayhem/Allsparkle rivalry of sorts. Sometimes fairly friendly and sometimes...not. It leads into the fact that the question of "why is Iacon so deserted" is a bit multilayered. As noted above, some don't feel their content is valued. The interesting thing there is that this is multilayered too. While there's the content concerns, from asking around, there's also size concerns. People who do smaller touchups tend to be less likely to start whole threads and usually just post in TFD's picture thread (or various respective threads elsewhere). Even I'm affected by this considering I've only done one full disassembly and repaint (so far...) and sometimes feel intimidated to post minor things.

There's also visibility concerns that I think have caused a vicious circle--"no one goes to Iacon so I'm not going to post there, thus no one goes there". Contests and front page support should help this some but it's possible that some people are set in their ways to only post in one location. The sitewide announcements are of limited help since they don't stand out that much on this forum (and thus for as much as I try to avoid the shoutbox but am stuck with it, posting there was brilliant on your part). In fact, while we're on the note of being unsure how much is poor visibility and how much is apathy, I remember you had a solidly commissioned drawing of one of your superheroes that got almost no likes or comments when posted down here.

There's also minor nitpicks here and there. While the archive purge earlier this year was needed for most of the forum, some of the slower moving parts like Iacon, Fun and Games, and Allsparkle were a bit more negatively affected since threads were surprisingly farther back. This isn't blame or anything since I was caught off guard that a few threads weren't as current/new as I thought. While permission was given for fanfics to be placed in Allspark Pictures, it never got truly officialized and in turn, I don't think any got posted.

I'll note that I have no intention of being negative and I may have stuff to post over the next few days. Merely noting some of the problems and concerns I've had or overheard.

EDIT: Just remembered that we might need some keyword flexibility for newly created threads in this section.

So much this. It is such a lower anxiety bar to post a reply in an existing thread than to start a new one that's already about the things you're doing where other people who do those things are apt to see it and comment on it. I would post things to the threads where I presently post them regardless of whether they were in the subforums they're presently in or not.

Zam's right that subcommunities have something to do with it, too - that lowers the bar a bit as well, at least, because users are more apt to feel they're sharing with friends rather than asking for attention in a public forum, even if those are actually the same thing. I'd say it increases the kind of visibility the post will get that's most relevant to the person posting, but ... as much as I think that might be a perception that could make a given subforum seem like a better place to post a piece, I do think it's a false perception. I know that for most of the things I post, I know the three or so people who are going to comment on it and they'll more or less do so wherever.

Edit: I'm going to get the pony miniatures thread locked talking like this. That makes me sad. I started it, I'm attached.

All good points. I think the lack of feedback has been an issue for a long, long time. There are so many cases of artworks getting posted and people could pop by, see it and move on without really feeling like they had anything to say.

This leads to the person seeing 300 views on their art and maybe 2 replies and thinking it's a kind of rejection or disinterest. Sadly, before the 'like' button was introduced, population in the art forum had already fallen off. I think now it might work better to see 50 likes or whatever than nothing at all. But that's just me.

Other times, some posts contained art that wasn't necessarily "Good" but users might offer feedback and suggestions on how to improve their craft and rather than take it in stride, would get defensive and stop posting.

And then the rare jewel would come in that was mindblowing and outshines everything else as professional caliber work and get 100 "OMG [X-COMPANY] HIRE THIS PERSON!"

Then there was the time that we split the forums up from a 'wip forum' to a 'completed forum' and that was a dismal mistake.

Then there was this time that our art manager designed the forums in the current state to revive it and immediately took to illness and had to back off and it's kind of been lingering ever since.

I do think the current layout of "3D and 2D art" and "Physical Art" is a good division IF there were more things posted. What I'm really thinking at this point is to compile all 3 forums back into a single art forum in which "3D/2D, Physical Art and "Questions" become tagged and it can simply be sorted that way.

It also leaves a space to re-open the Fanfic forums (much to Razorsaw's delight I"m sure) to get that ball of fiction rolling once again.

Thoughts?

I was just about to suggest the same. As long as the traffic is low, there is no sense in dividing it any further.

In regards to not wanting to open a new thread for every small project or art work, how about handling it in a manner similar to the "ask"-threads over in Mayhem? I.e. a user opens a thread where they collect all "minor" posts, reserving new threads for projects that are supposed to stand out more.

I would love to see life breathed back into the art forum.

I can admit that the dwindling activity over there is why I stopped posting. The demise of the Secret Santa Art exchange was probably when I stopped all together. I used to look forward to that every year.

But yeah. I'm down for helping in any way I can to revitalize the art forum. Might get me drawing more of my Beast Wars OCs.

EDIT: I agree on merging the 3 back into one. At least currently, there's no need with the amount of traffic for there to be three forums.

There's some of that already and it's a good thing, but I was thinking organizing in the other direction - threads for a category in which multiple users participate. So, like, you could have a TF-related minor tweaks and finishing thread, a wargaming miniatures thread, a Pony OC art thread, etc. Totally at the user's discretion whether to post in there or start a new project / personal thread, of course.

Edit: Exactly like Allsparkle, I mean, where we have an Allsparkle 2D art thread, a miniatures and modding thread, and also personal art threads by the heavy hitters.

Is there any way to have preview thumbnails like what TFW does in their Radicon section? I'm thinking there might not be so much incentive to go and click a thread titled something like "My FanArt Thread" by a user who's avatar is lifted from some old cartoon and who's signature just simply states that they draw stuff, no examples or nothing...

I'm gonna have to make the effort to actually comment on stuff, instead of maybe clicking a thread, quickly scroll thru and think "well alright" without leaving so much as a Like (it's not like there's even a limit on those, the hell am I being stingy for?). Although, ech, I never know what to say.

I like Copper's idea too. It'd be nice to have threads discussing fave artists/works, for instance. Instead of just fan fiction, we could have a poetry/short fiction threads or such.

It was pretty much the lack of feedback that kept me from posting much, and I don't know much about the TF stuff so I may not be a good judge, but I'll try to get more involved. I had no idea the art forums had gotten so deserted.
