@  Otaku : (23 October 2018 - 09:12 AM)

Now, I'm not saying that Cybertronians ought to have human life-spans, just that "millions of years" is too long.  Though I suppose it makes the "Oh, I suddenly remembered [plot point]!" moments credible because where do you store all the memories in an easily accessed form?  If you do remember even most things clearly... might that not be maddening?

@  Otaku : (23 October 2018 - 09:09 AM)

The "millions of years old" thing is probably the most alien aspect of Cybertronians.  It pushes my suspension of disbelief for anything remotely human to live that long and still be sane, or maybe even functional.  I think of how aging has affected my own view and sure, some of it is biological maturation, but a lot of it is experience.

@  wonko the sane? : (23 October 2018 - 07:11 AM)

But they don't really have a childhood either. They go online and all maturation is literally job experience.

@  Shrug : (23 October 2018 - 06:47 AM)

Well, they're practically immortal. That kind of lifespan doesn't exactly push growing up.

@  TheMightyMol... : (23 October 2018 - 04:00 AM)

They can't handle physical scale, did you think temporal scale would fare any better?

@  Pennpenn : (23 October 2018 - 03:44 AM)

Maybe it's that they're functionally intelligent, but don't ever really mature much psychologically. That and presumably the original writers gave as much of a shit about deep time as they did about space geometry.

@  Whirl Maximus : (23 October 2018 - 02:03 AM)

I'm mixed about the millions of years thing, it's somewhat at odds when transformers are humanized as they often are.

@  TM2-Megatron : (22 October 2018 - 11:59 PM)

Are any of the Transformers terribly bright, really? This is a spacefaring civilization that's millions of years old that seem to be fighting a perpetual war for no particular reason. Transformers are stupider than humans

@  wonko the sane? : (22 October 2018 - 08:31 PM)

Depends on the machine. Are you recruiting them, or MAKING them?

@  Cybersnark : (22 October 2018 - 08:30 PM)

... And not terribly bright.

@  wonko the sane? : (22 October 2018 - 07:51 PM)

Makes sense for robot soldiers: you would want something fast, low profile, but lots of power.

@  Waspinator : (22 October 2018 - 06:31 PM)

If we go by the Prime cartoon, sports cars apparently ARE the expendable troop of choice.

@  TheMightyMol... : (22 October 2018 - 04:29 PM)

Just fold 'em into a box and slap some wheels on it, they'll figure it out.

@  Pennpenn : (22 October 2018 - 01:57 AM)

Given that by the time we're up to in the story Functionalism had been dead for millions of years and many of the people around were made during and for the war, it's probably more likely that "sports car shaped thing" was an easy to make alt mode for expendable troops.

@  MEDdMI : (21 October 2018 - 09:52 PM)

maybe there's underground demolition derbies too

@  Locoman : (21 October 2018 - 09:25 PM)

Every single sports car was one of those two jobs? Considering how many there seem to be....

@  RichardT1977 : (21 October 2018 - 07:34 PM)

Athletic Entertainment

@  TheMightyMol... : (21 October 2018 - 03:32 PM)

It's mentioned in one issue that Bumblebee was a courier. The only other fast cars I can remember seeing in Functionist times were Blur and a couple of Stunticons, as racers.

@  SG Roadbuster : (21 October 2018 - 12:14 PM)

i figured the sports cars were either racers or couriers.

@  Nevermore : (21 October 2018 - 12:13 PM)

Upper Class. They're clearly not made for manual labor.

@  Locoman : (21 October 2018 - 12:09 PM)

Functionism only really makes sense for certain alternate modes like mining or construction equipment; where do things like sports cars fit in?

@  Xellos : (21 October 2018 - 11:51 AM)

At least in the movies they can switch to a (similar) alt mode at will, it seems. Especially if they want to sell more toys per movie.

@  wonko the sane? : (21 October 2018 - 10:44 AM)

They are a race of adaptive machines. Maybe they were expected to change themselves to fit the role?

@  RichardT1977 : (21 October 2018 - 10:06 AM)

IDW-verse discrimination still made more sense than the backstory in TF: Exodus, where everyone's caste was assigned seemingly at random with no regard for their aptitudes (altmode or otherwise)

@  MEDdMI : (21 October 2018 - 07:55 AM)

Lost Light is good too, so far.

@  MEDdMI : (21 October 2018 - 07:54 AM)

I'm not terribly into Transformers in general, but I did mostly enjoy the More Than Meets The Eye series.

@  Nevermore : (21 October 2018 - 05:11 AM)

Which has been in the state constitution since 1946, but was never actually executed according to documents, and is currently not in effect because the German federal constitution, which takes priority over state constitution, has banned the death penalty back in 1949.

@  Nevermore : (21 October 2018 - 05:09 AM)

Huh. So next weekend, when the German state of Hesse will have its state election, there will also be a ballot about changing the state constitution... and one of the proposed changes will be abolishing the death penalty.

@  Waspinator : (21 October 2018 - 03:44 AM)

I really need to read those comics

@  Pennpenn : (21 October 2018 - 03:28 AM)

Up to and including the fact that certain alternate modes could end up being classified as "surplus to requirements" and systematically murdered.

@  Pennpenn : (21 October 2018 - 03:26 AM)

And in IDW comics where it is/was literally a form of apartheid where your alternate mode pretty much dictated how you were treated by society, what jobs you could pursue, pretty much everything.

@  Waspinator : (21 October 2018 - 02:24 AM)

We do get hints of that from time to time in Transformers, with stuff like some jets acting smug towards cars and whatnot.

@  RichardT1977 : (20 October 2018 - 08:10 PM)

"No shotgun of Mine is going to marry a rocket launcher" sounds like something that Targetmasters (or WFC Siege Micromasters) might say...

@  Tm_Silverclaw : (20 October 2018 - 08:06 PM)

The characters are actually kinda nice. Sure a bunch of them are from New Jersey, but you get a few aliens too.. But if you do that, you might want to go digital delux verisons.

@  Xellos : (20 October 2018 - 06:38 PM)

My only issue is that the aside from Fox, the looks of the characters are kinda bland. If anything, I'll at least get it on Black Friday, as they almost always have deals on the toys to life stuff.

@  Tm_Silverclaw : (20 October 2018 - 06:07 PM)

Well I can tell you, if you are going physical version because you want the toys. The Switch version has the best Ship mount as you just slide the joycons into it. The PS4 ship mount is wired. The game itself is very good in my opionion. In some ways it starts to turn into an RTS without being an RTS. You've got to start focus on keeping your planets from being taken back over. It has a LOT to do. It does have some repitive missions, because well, trying to let you level up all pilots and ships and such. The switch version -ALSO- has starfox only missions and the characters are incorporated into the story.

@  Xellos : (20 October 2018 - 06:03 PM)

How is Starlink anyways? Been thinking of getting the Switch version for StarFox, which is quite unusal for me, as I almost always pick the PS4 versions (favorite controller and I already have so many Trophys on it).

@  Waspinator : (20 October 2018 - 05:42 PM)

No shotgun of mine is going to marry a rocket launcher!

@  TheMightyMol... : (20 October 2018 - 05:22 PM)

Should they be allowed to marry outside of their own caliber?

@  Waspinator : (20 October 2018 - 05:18 PM)

I'm conflicted on the subject of marriage rights for shotguns.

@  SHIELD Agent 47 : (20 October 2018 - 03:24 PM)

You say, "Damn it, what do you think this is, a shotgun wedding?"

@  SHIELD Agent 47 : (20 October 2018 - 03:23 PM)

What do you do if someone wants to bring their concealed-carry to your American wedding?

@  Tm_Silverclaw : (20 October 2018 - 01:58 PM)

Benbot, I was streaming the PS4 version of Starlink

@  SHIELD Agent 47 : (20 October 2018 - 01:25 PM)

Ergo their reporting will have its own slant on the facts as they choose, not the most neutral way possible.

@  SHIELD Agent 47 : (20 October 2018 - 01:24 PM)

I find it sad to realize that the prestigious New York Times which I trusted a lot as a kid in fact has its own editorial agenda.

@  Nevermore : (20 October 2018 - 01:20 PM)

The end result is NOT that stupid bullshit gets equal coverage as reasonable arguments. That would be problematic in itself (the "false balance" bias), but the provlem is that the controversial stupid bullshit gets MORE coverage than the reasonable arguments.

@  Nevermore : (20 October 2018 - 01:17 PM)

The media doesn't want to miss the opportunity to report on a controversy, and as a consequence makes sure that the controversial statements reach an audience.

@  Nevermore : (20 October 2018 - 01:17 PM)

Because they realized that saying controversial shit is guaranteed to get coverage.

@  Nevermore : (20 October 2018 - 01:16 PM)

It's the same here in Germany. Our right-wing moron party is still a political minority, yet they succeed in driving the topics the media keeps reporting.

@  Nevermore : (20 October 2018 - 01:15 PM)

The main problem was that Trump was banking on controversy, and the media was reporting controversy because it gave them ratings.

Gonna keep a list of friend codes and names of us who play the game, hopefully to help some new people out:

Xellos: NA - Miku - 089,222,366
              JP - Miku - 330,757,329

Original outdated post below:
________________________________________________
Well, looks like Fate/Grand order, the only mobile game that has consistently gained my time, attention, and sometimes money, is being released this summer in English.

https://mobile.twitt...322170025603072

Looks like you cannot transfer a Japanese account to the new server though.  As of now, it is still a possibility of having an English patch for the Japanese like Granblue Saga, so hopefully that will be the case.

I'll likely make a new account for the story aspects (I have way too many good things in my Japanese account to abandon it and start over).  In fact, it will be really nice to see the story, as I generally skip or fast forward through them, since there is no way for me to really tell what is happening in a visual novel...  And it will be really nice to be able to know what each skill is and not have to constantly look at the wiki for it.

Warning: Gameplay description that may or may not be hard to follow coming.  Read at your own risk:
Gameplay is really nice, most servant classes have a rock/paper/scissors relationship with others, and you get to choose a party of 6 to go to battle (one of which is a guest servant you pick from another player, which is an awesome crutch for most of the game), with the last 3 being one reserve in case one of the front ones dies.  Each servant has 5 "cards" that are either Quick (low power, but extra hits and crit generation for the next turn), Arts (medium power, but charges the Noble Phantasm (NP), the super attack for each character), and Buster (high attack, low everything else), and when you take a turn, it shuffles the 15 cards from the 3 characters, shows you 5 of them, and you choose 3 to attack.  The nice thing is that it is all turn based, so there is no need to rush anything, which is perfect for a mobile game.  There are also skills each character has that can be used before you attack, and the NP can also be used to attack if the gauge is full.
Bad description of good gameplay over:

There is also the Gatcha system for getting new servants...  Really low percentage to get 4 or 5 star characters, but they are so worth it.  Unlike some other ftp games, you can't raise the rarity of the servants, only later can raise their level cap by using special very limited items.  You get the Saint Quarts or tickets needed to summon new characters through logins, playing the story, events, or by using real money.  It actually has a pretty good rate of giving them out, so it is actually not hard to be a FTP player (I started Jan '16 and only started buying a bit in Sept, trying in vain to get a limited character).

I lucked out by getting my favorite character, Saber Alter (a 4 star), at the beginning of the game, then got a limited 5 star during the event that was going on (Saber Wars), then got the next limited 5 Star character (Saber Nero Bride), then nothing for a while...  I did not have a 5 star for all 7 of the main classes until this past January.  Though every month or two they have an event (or now event reruns) where you can easily acquire a free 4 star character who is usually pretty decent (or really damn good, like Kuro from the Fate/Prisma Illya collab event).

My only problem with the game (aside from not being able to read anything, which will be rectified in the summer), is that I find some of the voice acting to be pretty terrible (yeah, personal preference, but can get really annoying).  Granted, the story segments are not voiced, only the battle lines, when the characters are Ascended (level cap break), and some lines in your "room."  It is the battle one that can get pretty grating for me  (Saber Nero Bride is one of the prime examples).  I can overlook most of it because it is FTP and the gameplay is fun, and expect them to do the lazy/cheap thing and not have a dub (like Fate/Extella for the PS4), but damn, some of the voices are just...

Anywho, to sum it up, pretty good mobile game, keeps my attention, and will finally be able to read the story for it.  And if you want to play it now japanese, will likely need the wiki...

I'm not sure if I want to try considering that I'll probably get pretty far on the JP version by the time this starts, but translations for all the story material would be appreciated.

Some more info on the release:

http://www.animenews...-canada/.114901

Looks like they are possibly keeping the app and UI upgrades, but only starting with 2 chapters...  If they have chapter 2 before they nerfed it, it should be... interesting.  I started right after chapter 4 came out, but I have heard the horror stories, especially when there will be few level 90 supports to help us through.

Unless I get Saber Alter very early, I doubt I am gonna spend a whole lot of time on it, too much invested in the Japanese version, but considering it is still the only mobile game I constantly play, who knows.

Yep, gonna be rerolling much of the day then.  I'll likely post some of my good-but-not-good-enough-for-me rolls her for others to take.

Only thing that sucks is that I think it will be real close to a event in the original version.   Let's see how my attention span is....

animal-house-schitzo-theres-a-distinct-possibility.jpg

...Still gonna keep trying until I get something going decent.   Just remember, 5star servants have a 1% drop rate...  And 4star ones aren't common either.   Getting a decent 4star will likely be fine for a long time.

Edit: They also announced that the anime F/GO First Order (an alternate telling of the "tutorial" first stage of the game) is having the dub premiere at Anime Expo.  Looking forward to the BD release, but damn, Aniplex prices...

Excellent, the updated starter set.  I initially did many hours over 2-3 days in order to get a 4-star at the beginning (Saint Martha), and super lucked out by the Saber Wars event happening at the time, and I rolled Saber Alter as well.

I hope they have the updated UI to go along with it as well.

Now, deciding which to choose is hard.... Heracles will eventually save you many a later-game fight, and can probably rush you through early game, but Saint Martha is so tanky as well...

Not much longer to go.  And not much longer for Epic of Remnant: Argatha in the Japanese release, too.

It will be a code at a later date, it seems...

Got up early for work to try it out, damn, that first slow tutorial battle is torture...

Skipped the cutscenes (can reread them later), got Heracles on my free pull. Figured I was gonna reroll anyways, and gonna rush to the end to unlock the possibility of saber alter... so did a 10 pull for the he'll of it, got nothing good, so figured I would waste the rest of the quartz... got a 5 star Waver (El Malloi II), one of the best supports. Now I am torn on rerolling.

Whelp, lots of stuff going on, have been able to play both versions, and reroll a ton, but haven't been able to keep up or post any spare rerolls.

Aside from some bad translations *cough* Altria *cough* (and aside from my dislike of some of the voices), it is pretty good.  I ended up keeping my Waver/Heracles from my first pull (prolly 60+ rerolls, never saw him again, saw others multiple times).

3 10-pulls on story after Fuyuki, still no Saber Alter.  Did do 1 10-pull on Gilgamesh, and now one of the biggest a-holes in the Nasuverse is on my team.  Great character to have though.

I still have not finished anything besides Fuyuki yet, though, as I am still committed to getting Saber Alter, and best chance is when there are not as many new additions to the story gatcha.

I do have a couple Jeanne rerolls and a single Vlad reroll left over if anyone wants one though.

Who did you use your free 4-star pick on?

It was either Stheno or Elizabeth, and since there will be no more gold Lancers til Scathatch or when London comes out, I picked Elizabeth.  Stheno is okay, but only real great use is during Camelot.

About 20 minutes ago, I tried again for Saber Alter, and Altera popped up.  Still shocked at 3 5-stars in just over 2 weeks, what took me 3 months to get on the Japanese server.

Just hope my luck returns when Jeanne Alter shows up.

I've only gotten 5-stars on one of the four 10-pulls I've done (Altera came with a Kaleidoscope). I'm running out of Saint Quartz, though. Any suggestions on how to farm it more efficiently?
