Eh, he would've gotten beaten up if the government sent just about anyone.

@  Pennpenn : (22 February 2017 - 07:56 AM)

Regardless, literally everything I've ever seen (and a lot on tfwiki) attributes Megatron's slide into violence to Whirl beating him up while in custody. Maybe not like flicking a switch but Megatron's line "You made me. You taught me words were weightless without force" kinda spells it out.

@  NotVeryKnightly : (22 February 2017 - 07:38 AM)

I'm not sure if there even was a specific turning point, but he didn't seem kill happy yet when he was with Terminus, and that was after Whirl beating him up.

@  NotVeryKnightly : (22 February 2017 - 07:24 AM)

It was also before any sort of uprising or him actually doing much of anything.

@  Pennpenn : (22 February 2017 - 07:20 AM)

I mean, the whole thing didn't start as "the great war". It was an uprising that eventually morphed into a the war.

@  Pennpenn : (22 February 2017 - 07:17 AM)

Yeah, of course it's before the war, Whirl beating Megatron while he was in custody was the tipping point that made Megatron turn violent.

@  Pennpenn : (22 February 2017 - 03:28 AM)

Like so many awful things in that universe, it's basically Whirl's fault.

My funds for Transformers is limited this year and with the reveal yesterday of Trypticon, he is on my short list.  My question is I have passed on Fort Max for a little while now but had planned on picking him up.  After reading some feedback from others about him being so close to Metroplex in feel and transformation, I am questioning if he is worth the expense knowing everything else coming out this year.

For those of you that own both (or even if you just own one of the other), what is your opinion on this.  Is it worth it for someone already owning Metroplex to drop what limited funds they may have to pick up Fortress Maximus?

No. Headmaster aside, Metroplex does everything Max does but better. Moderately better city mode, much better vehicle mode, more little playfeatures in base mode, actual weaponry (well Takara's has the sword but still, Max needs guns)

He's nice, but short of Cerebros / Fortress you're not missing much if you have Metroplex.

I find the original Fortress Maximus to be better overall.  Minus Cerebros / Fortress as I mentioned.

The noises and sword on the Japanese one are especially nice.  I have all 3, and kind of like the various versions of Metroplex and Devastator, kind of feel that the other versions are not worth having once you have one.

But yeah, he's neat but I don't feel he's as good as the original or Metroplex.

Cerebros / Fortress is one of my favorite (if not my favorite) Titanmasters though.

Fort Max is absolutely not worth it if you already have Metroplex unless you just really, really want Cerebros.

If you have G1 Fort Max, TR Max is completely unnecessary.

It still comes down to how much you want Cerebros/Spike. Which are admittedly really cool.

The G1 Fort Max body is still probably better - better fortress and space modes, stable points of articulation, actual firepower.

I can't justify both Fortress Maximus AND Metroplex, but I have Metroplex and totally wish I had Maximus instead, since red and blue are totally cooler colours than white. So your mileage may vary.

I kinda touched on this over in the Trypticon thread.  I think part of what is making Titan Masters such a successful line for so many of us is the fact that Hasbro has given us something that we didn't even get with G1 Headmasters.

#1.  An entire line of Headmasters rather than just a subline

#2.  Play integration and swap-ability between all size classes.

#3.  Smaller transformable vehicles as well as base-modes for almost all larger than deluxe figures.

#4.  Titan Master features in the guns and larger figures specifically designed around the Titan Masters.

There was thought and almost a sense of frolic on the part of the designers with the Titan Master's line.  What you saw with the Fort Max remold of Metroplex is a completely safe and already done gimmick.  TR Fort Max doesn't have the 'Largest Transformer Ever' moniker that Metroplex was able to carry.  He wasn't the first of his kind as Metroplex was.  He also took a 30 year old gimmick and offered us nothing really new about it.  What's more....Hasbro couldn't even be bothered to provide proper ramps cover those stupid hands and we are literally talking about possibly $1 in plastic.  Fort Max was a lazy half-hearted attempt...even for a kids toy.

I still bought it, still spent way too much to have Cheets paint it up nice for me.  But at the end of the day I agree with others here.  There is no reason to own him if you have the original and that says a huge amount given how much we all love our updates to those iconic characters.

I like TR Fort Max probably more than it deserves but I would also agree with most everyone's assessment here. Both Gens Metroplex and G1 Fort Max do their jobs better than TR Max does. In fact I'd even say that Metroplex scales better with Titan Masters than it does the figures from its own line. It just doesn't have the little foot pegs.

If you really want a cartoon-style Cerebros and a decent giant body to stick him on, he's totally worth it. Cerebros is really fun.

I wouldn't buy it for the really great base mode, though. Really Great Base Mode is not included.

Funnily enough I'm in the opposite boat. Metroplex came and went during a time where I really couldn't afford big ticket toys so I never got it. By the time that changed it was a $200+ item on the secondary market. No thanks. But then a $75 shipped Fort Max came into my life and I love it. In fairness the closest I ever got to the G1 was a Brave Max that I had to sell off like eight years ago so there was never any decision to make there.

So for me absent a reissue or something weird like a batch showing up at TJ Maxx all these years later I'll probably never own Titan Metroplex. And life goes on just fine. :p

This is my thinking too. I am saving my funds and space for Trypticon to go next to my Metroplex.

It's odd, that now space is becoming more of an issue than funds.
