@  MEDdMI : (01 March 2017 - 02:38 PM)

I'm genuinely amused/impressed, even if it wasn't intentional.

@  Benbot : (01 March 2017 - 02:38 PM)

That's a lot of shouting

@  MEDdMI : (01 March 2017 - 02:37 PM)

Wow, Bass, your post took up the entire Shoutbox exactly without being over/under a line.

@  ShadowMan024 : (01 March 2017 - 02:36 PM)

The best Marvel issue is, was, and always will be Decepticon Graffiti. The Battlechargers are awesome.

@  Bass X0 : (01 March 2017 - 02:27 PM)

ReGeneration was criticised for being too slow paced and drawn out way too long, yet the Decepticon leaders are introduced and dispatched just to tick the box that they made an appearance. I also preferred the single stand alone stories from the original Marvel comics instead of each issue having like four different plots running through it, which didn't make for satisfying reading IMO. If a writer is writing for a trade, don't release individual issues. I also thought the artwork was poor - before, the Marvel comics tried to have the best artwork they could at the time, whereas now they were intentionally limiting themselves to appear "retro", and it shows. The pacing was the worst though, some characters just stand around doing nothing to progress their part of the story, like Shockwave's segments. In contrast, compare any six consecutive issues from the Marvel comics and a whole lot more happens than in RG1. Furman also fell into his pattern of wasting space world building and pointless scenes when the story had to end at #100.

@  LBD "Nyt... : (01 March 2017 - 02:10 PM)

Even then, Furman's material never really had a huge toy-push aspect to it, other than "here's new character!"

@  LBD "Nyt... : (01 March 2017 - 02:09 PM)

Considering it was a wrap-up for a story whose toyline had ended anyway, I feel like it worked out well enough. I mean, the last major iteration did play an important part in things.

@  Steevy Maximus : (01 March 2017 - 02:04 PM)

New comics didn't need to shill any toys at all...so there wasn't any push to do weird and different things.

@  Steevy Maximus : (01 March 2017 - 02:03 PM)

The big problem is that stuff like the old comics were produced under the idea of shilling toys...which ultimately resulted in a lot of the weirdness people remember

@  Rycochet : (01 March 2017 - 02:01 PM)

He was hired to write an exercise in nostalgia and that's what he produced.

@  LBD "Nyt... : (01 March 2017 - 01:38 PM)

Speaking of Marvel, finally read the rest of ReGeneration One, thanks to a Comixology sale. I... don't understand the hate.

@  lastmaximal : (28 February 2017 - 09:09 PM)

Works for some, not all. http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Trademark

@  Waspinator : (28 February 2017 - 08:57 PM)

Yeah, making it "Autobot X" seems to be their way of getting around many of those issues with overly generic terms

@  Rycochet : (28 February 2017 - 08:41 PM)

Hasbro would just call the toys Marvel's Thunderstrike or Autobot/Decepticon Thunderstrike.

@  ShadowMan024 : (28 February 2017 - 08:19 PM)

D.C. owns Bumblebee and they've made toys of her, so if a Mattel licensee can share names with a TF...

@  Telly : (28 February 2017 - 07:42 PM)

doesnt marvel own that? i know theyve got the comic character, not sure about the name for toys though. there ever been a thunderstrike figure? would it even be in the same area as a tf name?

@  ShadowMan024 : (28 February 2017 - 07:38 PM)

You know, "Thunderstrike" would actually be a pretty kickass TF name! Surprised it's never been used!

@  ShadowMan024 : (28 February 2017 - 07:27 PM)

Thunderstruck.

@  Waspinator : (28 February 2017 - 07:25 PM)

How about Thunderblust? http://gatherer.wiza...iverseid=157411

@  ShadowMan024 : (28 February 2017 - 07:23 PM)

Or Shockburninator, who turns into a satellite and a dragon.

@  Waspinator : (28 February 2017 - 07:22 PM)

Burninationblastatron

@  ShadowMan024 : (28 February 2017 - 07:22 PM)

It's Thunderblast, but she turns into a wingaling dragon instead of "transforming" into a boat.

@  ShadowMan024 : (28 February 2017 - 07:22 PM)

Thunderburninator.

@  Waspinator : (28 February 2017 - 07:20 PM)

@  ShadowMan024 : (27 February 2017 - 09:27 PM)

They need to make a dragonbot named "Burninatron."

@  BlackMax : (27 February 2017 - 09:15 PM)

I find upcoming Last Knght's Steelbane sexy. A very Skyrim name for a giant robot who is also a dragon? Be still my heart.

@  MEDdMI : (27 February 2017 - 06:24 PM)

I never found most Hollywood heartthrobs sexy, even if they were around my age. I think I knew even back then that the char they play doesn't reflect how the actor really looks/behaves.

So I know that these have been around for a little while now. I had been hoping that I'd be able to get the complete set with Headmasters, Masterforce, and Victory along with that cool Fortress Maximus litho ('cuz I loves me some Fort Max, don'cha know).

Yeah, I think it's realistic to say that ain't happening now.

That said, there's still a complete set sans litho, and there are the individual sets. Out of curiosity, aside from maybe the case to contain all three series, is there any difference between the contents of the individual series and the collection? Because I don't want to miss anything, and if not, I might just look at getting them piecemeal one series at a time instead of trying to save up for the whole kit 'n kaboodle.

(And before anyone brings it up, I know the reputation of the series. I got through Energon, so I think I'll survive, and I'm just interested in seeing it all play out anyway.)

All that said, any indication they might bring over Beast Wars II and Neo?

As far as I know, the complete set is just the three individual sets bundled together, with no content differences between the individual sets and the complete set.

As for BWII and Neo, not likely. It would seem that the main reason the Shout! Factory releases of The Headmasters, Masterforce, and Victory were able to be done was because the Metrodome and Madman releases in the UK and Australia had already been done beforehand, with there having been a preexisting set of official subtitle scripts for all three series that Hasbro and Shout! could use and butcher tweak for their U.S. release.

BWII and Neo, however, had never been completely subbed in English beforehand (what with neither series having come to DVD in Japan at all until 2011 and 2012), with BWII's first complete fansubbed release having not come about until just last year, and that was an unofficial release.

For there to be an official English subtitled DVD release of BWII and Neo, Hasbro and/or Shout! Factory would have to create their own new subtitle scripts from scratch. And there's also the notion that the current Hasbro team seems to be ignoring the Beast Era as of late, so the interest in subbing and releasing these two series doesn't seem very high.

Also, the most recent subtitled Super Sentai release by Shout supposedly copied a fansub available on the internet after the one before it got some pretty negative feedback for inconsistent quality.

I don't think Shout is really interested in spending money on fresh translations.

That's a laugh, 'cause it's exactly what happened with the Metrodome DVDs. Headmasters was a bit ropey, so they employed the TV Nihon subs for MF and V. All above board in their case, though!

Yeah it looks to me like each individual series is going for less than 20 bucks on Amazon. I'd just get 'em peacemeal.

If you love some Fort Max you oughtta love some Headmasters. I think it's an awesome series and I won't hear anything otherwise!

Headmasters is pretty great, honestly.

Nothing else in the entire franchise comes close to this level of brilliance. And no, I am not taking a potshot at the series. The dub is a genuine masterpiece of hilarity.

I have the individual sets of HM, MF and V. I've watched them each once. Well worth the watch of you don't mind following a long with subtitles. But I noticed a lot of them you can simply watch them and figure out what's happening without really needing much of the subtitles to help.

I like the series well enough.  Masterforce is the best, then Victory then Headmasters.

I find the 4 Headmaster characters not as interesting as some of the other leads (or even characters on the show).  But I'm currently watching this one.

One thing that annoys me is some of the changes to the names that don't generally make sense.  Or some errors in the subtitles, whether it be grammatical, misinterpretting two people talking as one person talking, or doing a find and replace of all the times "blood" is mentioned and having "Bomburst" actually replace a reference to a human's blood.

I'm a big fan of Masterforce.  I really dig how they handled Powermasters.  It helps that it has some of my favorite late G1 designs as characters that only got Western fiction in the comic book (which is coincidentally the era of the comics that I love.)

I've really been meaning to watch through Headmasters.  I think the sudden switch to animeness with some of the Season 3 crew is what throws me.  Maybe I just need to skip like the first 3 episodes.

----

When Shout translated Dairanger, they translated nearly all instances of onii-chan based on the context of the scene.  They were inconsistent episode-to-episode and scene-to-scene with the series after that though, leaning heavily on not switching it to brother/sister or a name.  In at least one episode they started switching spoken names to onii-chan.

Doesn't top finding and replacing "blood" though.  That's amazing.

I love Shout for releasing stuff no other company has interest in releasing, but man, I wish they'd put a like a minimum 20% more effort into stuff.  If not spending time/money proofreading subtitles is what makes it profitable, then keep on keeping on I guess.

This reminds me of the liner notes to that "Coming Out Of Their Shells" live TMNT band show thing, in which any word with "-don-" in it ended up replaced by "Donatello", such as:

"Ain't gonna stop until the Foot's undone" being rendered as "Ain't gonna stop until the Foot's unDonatello"

"The word 'gourmet' just don't exist" being rendered as "the word 'gourmet' just Donatello's exist"

To be clear, they're only bad in that quite a lot of characters' names are changed in sorta arbitrary ways. It never bothered me because I can hear the names being said and I already know what they're supposed to be. If you're the kinda person who gets irked by characters saying "Rodimus Convoy" but the subs say "Rodimus Prime," and so on, then it will be bothersome to you. Otherwise it's fine
