And you're turning us on

@  Nutjob R/T : (26 April 2017 - 10:15 PM)

The terrible secret of the Allspark: We all have this twisted fetish for rational thought processes

@  lastmaximal : (26 April 2017 - 10:13 PM)

Not everyone likes everything, and people aren't blind to shortfalls or annoyances resulting from constraints of how the brand is handled. We make many a joke out of these things. But it's a rare thing when entitlement replaces logic on here, where that seems to be poster raison d'etre everywhere else.

@  lastmaximal : (26 April 2017 - 10:11 PM)

It's utterly weird how these here boards seem so impervious an oasis when it comes to that depth of idiocy. Worshipping 3p and demanding the official companies "step it up" and stop being so lazy? Insisting the movies be done THEIR way, crapping on every single thing revealed about the films or toyline, then whining that they can't find (insert hot movie to here) or the official release of a movie figure doesn't capture the look in the film they hated? Etc

@  lastmaximal : (26 April 2017 - 10:09 PM)

It's not even a "brand pissing contest" or "board loyalty" thing, not least due to the fact that those don't really even happen here all that much. I'm just happy to be with levelheaded people who've outgrown the usual fan dumb tropes. You can have a civilized conversation here and people don't shit on things only to hide behind "but but but to each their own right?" when their myopic BS is challenged.

@  lastmaximal : (26 April 2017 - 10:07 PM)

With each time nonsense like this flares up on tfw or on local discussion venues (and it does quite a bit) I'm just reminded of why I've essentially been allspark bound for the last... Fifteen or so years.

@  Noideaforaname : (26 April 2017 - 10:07 PM)

On the plus side, tho, TFW has "appreciation threads" for practically everything, even stuff like Kre-O and PCC. And their toy database is quite handy.

@  Noideaforaname : (26 April 2017 - 10:03 PM)

I've been happily posting on TFW for years. Then, after being *here* for a few months, I look back and wonder how the hell I even bothered with it. I mean, my ignore list had hundreds of people on it. Literally HUNDREDS of ignored people. I even showed off said gargantuan list once (with a small thumbnail that you couldn't read any of the names on, mind you). That... that really should have been a warning sign, I suppose...

@  WorkbenchManiac : (26 April 2017 - 08:03 PM)

Thanks, I enjoyed reading the nerdrage. I should hang out over there more often.

@  Diecast : (26 April 2017 - 07:07 PM)

I mean, Reveal Your Shield. That gets complained about too.

@  Diecast : (26 April 2017 - 07:04 PM)

One of the reveal the shield news threads at TFW has movie fans and G1 fans arguing over who has it worse

@  WorkbenchManiac : (26 April 2017 - 06:49 PM)

You got me awfully curious. What thread ware we talking about?

@  Diecast : (26 April 2017 - 02:17 PM)

That was a quality read. Both sides of that thread's argument went pretty crazy.

@  Noideaforaname : (26 April 2017 - 02:11 PM)

"When Beast Wars made Optimus a monkey nobody complained" ~ someone desperate for a 'gotcha'

@  Diecast : (26 April 2017 - 02:05 PM)

I want to find the rock they've been under that there isn't constantly complaining about something.

@  Diecast : (26 April 2017 - 02:04 PM)

For the lack if a better word, it baffles me when someone starts a discussion somewhere that's like "Does anyone else not like the movies?"

@  TheMightyMol... : (26 April 2017 - 12:13 PM)

Careful, it might have something to say about that.

@  MEDdMI : (26 April 2017 - 12:13 PM)

I'm gonna have to check your opinion out real good to make sure.

@  TheMightyMol... : (26 April 2017 - 11:55 AM)

Oppinions are like assholes. Everyone has one, but mine is better so shut up.

@  ▲ndrusi : (26 April 2017 - 11:08 AM)

To clarify on point 1 since I was typing early in the morning again, "you must hate exactly what I hate" and "you msut like exactly what I like" aren't actually the same statement but they're the same thought process which is "my opinions are objective facts." If you see someone espousing one, they're probably thinking the other, too.

@  lastmaximal : (26 April 2017 - 10:57 AM)

... what.

@  Bass X0 : (26 April 2017 - 10:15 AM)

Andrusi, I imagine to some people online, there isn't that much of a world of difference, at least going by the venom they post; although not at RiD specifically.

@  unluckiness : (26 April 2017 - 08:55 AM)

The scale of liking and hating is an interval one so you can not like something but not hate it. Pretty sure there's apathy and dislike in between there at least.

@  wonko the sane? : (26 April 2017 - 08:07 AM)

And humans are perfectly capable of hating things in unison while being divided on liking.

@  ▲ndrusi : (26 April 2017 - 07:34 AM)

On the other hand, there's a world of difference between "I hate RID" and "I hate Nazis."

@  ▲ndrusi : (26 April 2017 - 07:27 AM)

On one hand, "hating what I hate" IS "liking what I like." One of those cultures can't be worse than the other because they're literally the same culture.

@  ▲ndrusi : (26 April 2017 - 07:26 AM)

I think that comparison is both an oversimplification AND a meaningless distinction.

@  wonko the sane? : (26 April 2017 - 07:16 AM)

That's the internet effect. Distance and anonimity make for easy and consequence-less extremism.

@  Bass X0 : (26 April 2017 - 06:58 AM)

I think the aggressive "How dare you not hate exactly what I hate" culture online is worse than the aggressive "How dare you not like exactly what I like" culture.

@  MEDdMI : (26 April 2017 - 06:19 AM)

And now that song/scene and its many many parodies are running through my head.

@  unluckiness : (26 April 2017 - 06:18 AM)

Patrick Swayze didnt!

@  MEDdMI : (26 April 2017 - 05:58 AM)

lol. As long as they knock first.

@  LBD "Nyt... : (26 April 2017 - 05:57 AM)

Or as ghosts. I guess ghosts would be acceptable.

@  LBD "Nyt... : (26 April 2017 - 05:57 AM)

For now, I'd just find some small comfort in knowing those who have passed actually are in some sort of better place.

@  LBD "Nyt... : (26 April 2017 - 05:56 AM)

I'd find comfort in knowing that one way or another, that suffering would eventually end and a new, potentially happier beginning awaits.

@  MEDdMI : (26 April 2017 - 05:54 AM)

@LBD At the same time, I can't imagine wanting to stay in even a happy afterlife when fleshies are still suffering.

@  2017 : (26 April 2017 - 05:49 AM)

Celebrating and welcoming death just gives them more ideological hoops to justify killing others. So yeah, no thanks.

@  LBD "Nyt... : (26 April 2017 - 05:48 AM)

The idea of death doesn't bother me so much as no longer existing.

@  MEDdMI : (26 April 2017 - 05:48 AM)

at the very least, my body will feed the grass which feeds the antelope which feeds the lio- ....wait

@  LBD "Nyt... : (26 April 2017 - 05:47 AM)

Yeah, that's kind of the thing.

@  MEDdMI : (26 April 2017 - 05:47 AM)

Some cultures celebrate/welcome death (of course, those also have some form of afterlife)

@  wonko the sane? : (26 April 2017 - 05:45 AM)

You shouldn't be. What with having absolutely no knowledge or control over it.

@  2017 : (26 April 2017 - 05:45 AM)

Death is scary, which is why we either spend our lives avoiding the subject or staying up late overthinking it.

@  LBD "Nyt... : (26 April 2017 - 05:44 AM)

"Never did want to live forever." I'm more bothered about what -- if anything -- is next.

@  2017 : (26 April 2017 - 05:44 AM)

Though I think the brain is a finite storage space so you'd probably start forgetting so much after some point it'd be like a new person transitioning in every few centuries. That'd be a good reason to keep a diary.

@  2017 : (26 April 2017 - 05:43 AM)

I think immortality is possible biologically in the future, or at least living for vastly longer spans of time. I'd personally be happy to live at least a few thousand years, but I'd aim for forever.

@  LBD "Nyt... : (26 April 2017 - 05:34 AM)

@MEDdMI Oh man, that bugs me all the time.

@  LBD "Nyt... : (26 April 2017 - 05:33 AM)

Well, yesterday was a depressing bout of thinking I was going to get TR Hot Rod and then not getting TR Hot Rod after all (among other things).

@  MEDdMI : (26 April 2017 - 05:31 AM)

Which is also something that bugs me about the "your dead loved ones are always watching you" concept. Do you mind? I'd like a little privacy, please!

@  MEDdMI : (26 April 2017 - 05:30 AM)

Even if it was possible, I can't help but think people would skip to the "good" parts, like sex.

I've seen the first two episodes, and I like it.

What I love is that basically everybody except for Archie has been updated with the times, while remaining true to the spirit of the comic books.  Archie is a lovable, yet naive, good-hearted goof.

In addition to the typical CW relationship drama, there's a murder mystery and a noir feel thrown into the mix.  If you're into cheesey teen dramas, this one is definitely better than most and worth your time.

If you're into Archie, I think you'll be able to tell if this is for you after a couple episodes, and those that have enjoyed the recent further-reaching adaptations in the comic books will likely get a kick out of this.

If the only part of the Arrow-verse you enjoy is easter-egg references to comic books in between ass-kicking, this may not be your cup of tea.

I liked the first episode, though dark and edgy Riverdale is pretty hard to swallow. I hope Aguirre-Sacasa doesn't bring too much of Afterlife with Archie to the show. I mean, great book (if you're into that sort of thing) but even without the zombies I don't think we need the show to go that far.

Mostly I have my fingers crossed for Hot Dog.

This show is like eating a bag of potato chips. You know it's not good for you, and will probably come back to haunt you later, but you just can't seem to quit it until it's over.

I think the concept of being educated and being able to educate is something that more people need more of in their lives.

No, we don't all know everything but we should spread and share that what we do know.

If I'm consistently misspelling a word, I would want and expect people to correct me as should I imagine all decent people who know the value of good literacy.

Its just arrogant laziness to know you're spelling a word incorrectly and not correct yourself or ignore the advice when people do tell you how to spell a word correctly.

I've only seen the first episode so far, but I mostly enjoy it. Its a pretty good send up to the Archieverse and its characters, while also being the sorta typical CW Drama.

Watched the first episode but not big into either the teen drama genre or Archie to keep it going. I'll watch it if it's on maybe but I don't think I'm going to keep it going as I would the Arrowverse shows. The Superman spin is what kept me with Smallville all ten seasons even for the lackluster payoff. Archie just isn't going to draw me in long term.

The thing that seems to be keeping me going with it is that it seems to have an ongoing serialized narrative that will continue from episode to episode with the mystery surrounding Jason's death driving the story forward.

Saw two eps. I think it's too easy to have any main character seen so far be the killer. Maybe someone will appear mid season to be the killer. Too easy to be Cheryl or Betty's mom.

Who the hell is Polly? Did Betty really have a sister?

Grundy is, well, wow. It's not the real Grundy tho. The comic Grundy is Gertrude and this one is Geraldine.

I feel that Reggie should be scheming and more involved here. Kevin has a bigger role than him and Reggie is a classic main cast guy.

Kinda disappointed in loner, unfunny Jughead. He's the coolest guy in the comics for me and here, he's so dark, haha.

I'm digging it so far. I do think it's pretty cheesy, but I do eat that stuff up.

I do love Jughead's narration over the episode and the very 'Twin Peaks' feel to the mood. I'm excited to see where it goes.

Also, I'm wondering how you can follow up with Season 2. Will there be another murder? A disappearance? I just see themselves having issues topping the murder from this season.

I looked some of this up after the first episode, since some things didn't match with my memories of Archie:

Betty has an older Brother and Sister, though they were apparently kinda non-canon for a bit only showing up n 'Lil Archie' comics to be a more 'adult' presence. They came into offical canon in the 90's with their absences explained due to having Jobs away from Riverdale. Also, Betty's Mom being kinda a bitch is different from the comics as well.

Jughead's personality here seems to be shaped by Jason's Death and whatever cuased him and Archie to no longer be as close as they were.

Regie is apparently gonna get more focus as the season goes on, based on a bit I read about upcoming character.

My money's on Ms. Grundy.

She could turn out to be the obsessive-type who was also sleeping with Jason and shot him after he dumped her or threatened to make their relationship public.

The end of episode 2 tells us the gunshot they heard isn't the one that killed him since they say he died a week later.

I'm actually wondering if it'll be like the comics where there's no continuity and season 2 will be Veronica arriving again and there's a different mystery, haha.

I did see Betty's mom and dad in the comics before but they barely register. It's was Fred, Archie's mom and Mr Lodge who were always around. I don't recall Fred being a construction guy but it was a good excuse to explain how Archie got hot, haha.

Aw, I suddenly miss the Mr Lodge and Smothers dynamic of can't standing Archie.

This time, it'll be Cheryl who died and Jason will be the school's grieving big man on campus.

Instead of Archie taking Jason's football number, Betty or Veronica will take Cheryl's cheerleading position.

Episode 3 recap:  Betty is straight up cray-cray. The scarlet lipstick...the wig...incarnating her allegedly cray-cray sister...GOLD!

Line of the episode:

Archie's Dad:  I met your met your music teacher last night.  Yeah, Miss Grundy?  Whoa. They did not look like that back in my day, son.

For being an obvious over-the-top guilty pleasure, this show is WAY better than it has any right to be!

I had a different answer in mind when Josie asked Archie why they were called the Pussycats.

I'm sorry. (Hahahaha)

Ethel's name appeared on the book twice. (Btw, she's really Barb from Stranger Things?) And I saw Midge listed and followed by 'Go Moose!'.

I thought episode three was a bit disappointing, it just all felt a bit clunky to me, like the dialogue could have used an extra polish or the execution was just a bit off. And I'm worried that Betty's a bit too crazy. And everything that has anything to do with Cheryl is just kind of insufferably stupid.

But on the whole, still enjoying the show a lot. Big Luke Perry fan (best Buffy character) and loving Cole Sprouse's Jughead. For some reason.
