x-x when in vehicle mode we can travel much F A R T H E R-

@  wonko the sane? : (30 June 2020 - 05:52 PM)

Because despite the fact that we can travel around the world in the time it takes to get a good nights sleep and a couple of meals: people rarely wander more than 25 miles away from home for the duration of their lives.

@  Otaku : (30 June 2020 - 05:49 PM)

I don't know how many days that trip takes - especially while sightseeing - but explaining they're 3936 kilometers (2445 miles) apart gives an idea, paradoxically because it is too large to easily picture.

@  Otaku : (30 June 2020 - 05:44 PM)

Aye.  When I catch lay people discussing miles and not how long the trip takes, it is in an attempt to stress how far away something is... like NYC to LA.

@  ▲ndrusi : (30 June 2020 - 01:20 PM)

But I can imagine 45 *minutes* easily.

@  ▲ndrusi : (30 June 2020 - 01:20 PM)

I can imagine a mile, it's a distance I've run. I can't really imagine 45 miles.

@  ▲ndrusi : (30 June 2020 - 01:19 PM)

I think there's also an element of the thing where things that are much bigger than us all blur together.

@  Otaku : (30 June 2020 - 11:49 AM)

If you're not, then you're more concerned with how long it takes.  Actual distance doesn't tell you that very well.  Besides traffic and road conditions, you'll need to know what kind of driving (city/interstate/rural/etc.).

@  Otaku : (30 June 2020 - 11:47 AM)

Distance matters if you're being paid by the mile.

@  TM2-Megatron : (30 June 2020 - 11:44 AM)

Canadians are the same way, for the most part. If you're driving somewhere far, especially, it helps you plan out the day more than a distance in KM would.

@  Otaku : (30 June 2020 - 11:42 AM)

We use the time it takes to get someplace because that is what is relevant to us.

@  TheMightyMol... : (30 June 2020 - 10:55 AM)

Because even we can't figure out miles half the time.

@  Paladin : (30 June 2020 - 09:54 AM)

it's a big country with a lot of empty space. between our citizens' ears.

@  Bass X0 : (30 June 2020 - 09:52 AM)

Why do most Americans measure distance by hours of driving?

@  TM2-Megatron : (29 June 2020 - 07:26 PM)

And as a result the world's lone blu-ray release of the film, an Australian disc that came out 7 years ago, now goes for hundreds of dollars on eBay. Thanks Disney.

@  TM2-Megatron : (29 June 2020 - 06:21 PM)

Well, they censored Daryl Hannah's butt in Splash :rolleyes

@  Paladin : (29 June 2020 - 05:43 PM)

maybe New Mutants is too bad even for D+.

@  Steevy Maximus : (29 June 2020 - 05:00 PM)

X-Men films are coming to Disney+ next month. But will they censor Hugh Jackman's butt?

@  Nevermore : (29 June 2020 - 09:43 AM)

If Walmart abandoned their exclusives, then why can their exclusive version of Deluxe Hot Rod in "Autobots Unite" packaging be ordered through their website right now? Or at least it could, as people did already receive their shipments.

Also, a minor oddity regarding that exclusive Voyager Optimus Prime: The version available at TRU is lacking the "Reveal The Shield" logo from its packaging, which the European version available at Argos in the UK, as well as the Tiny Turbo Changer 3-pack and the 1-Step Turbo Changer 6-pack (both of which are still exclusive to Target in the US), have.

I hadn't heard that it had ever come into stock on the website, so that's new.

Yeah, mine should be delivered today.

What's stupid weird is the price for it dropped days after they sold out. They must have some kind of discount algorithm that still runs even when out of stock.

I just got the Wave 3 Deluxes from Target.com today. I know they haven't propagated much yet, but...has anybody figured out how Bumblebee's cannon stows in car mode? There's a big obvious empty area at the front of the cabin, and there's a tab on the cannon that isn't used in either arm mode or pegged-to-back mode, but I can't for the life of me figure out how it's supposed to fit/connect inside the car.

Edit: Oh, I see. It just tabs onto the side. I guess I was tricked by that big empty section.

He is definitely the Okayest figure I've picked up in a long while. Think I'll go cancel my Lockdown MTB pre-order now. Not a mold I need to double dip on.

Is he taller than the other deluxes?  The only other toy I had "out" when I opened him was Universe Hardhead and I couldn't get over the fact that a decade ago I was regretting squeezing my toy budget to buy Ultra class figures for $25 and here I have a piddly $20 deluxe on my coffee table.

It's a bit odd looking next to the others, but I'm glad Hot Rod isn't stuck with the same dumpy body the original mold had. Wish Lockdown had gotten the same height treatment (that sounds odd to say). I mpbest remember him being lanky and imposing.

I wonder how Hot Rod looks next to Battle Blade Bumblebee. He was also strangely tall, wasn't he?

Yeah, and he might be taller than Hot Rod - I haven't done any comparing, but the over-time decrease in sizes could mean Hot Rod is just a normal trilogy-era Deluxe height.

I've fiddled with Hot Rod more.  He didn't wow me on first impression, but the fact that he transforms so well won me over.  Unfortunately I still can't get his driver side arm to peg in.  I've scraped away a little plastic from the slot the tab goes in, but I'm afraid to do too much for fear of going too far and it never staying tabbed in for being too loose.

The arm snaps into place in three places (tab on leg, slot on front near bumper, tiny little nub that goes by the side window bit in the back).  Is it getting caught somewhere?

I think the thing I enjoy about Hot Rod is that it's some kind of engineering game of telephone, if the phone used a couple parts from the prior one.  I mean, he's probably 80% new figure, using 100% of AoE Lockdown's engineering with some extra bits added on top, when AoE Lockdown was a wholesale, if mildly simplified (ie, dropped the panel kibble) use of DotM Roadbuster's engineering.  Hot Rod is three movies' worth of design crammed in one figure.

Keeping them probably kept the figure within the budget.

Personally I'd buy a 3rd-party kit that let you swap them for something more accurate to the movie's design along with his time-stop gun. They're on a mushroom peg, so it's not like it'd be hard to do.

Being part of any fandom is fundamentally embarassing.

It doesn't seem reasonable that Lockdown had an entire metal tool set for just his lower legs, so it's hard for me to imagine how it impacted the budget when they had to cut tools for 80% of a new toy in the first place. If he reused a whole dark sprue, sure. But this? This is just nonsensical.
