@  wonko the sane? : (08 April 2020 - 08:42 AM)

It is. Thankfully, we don't use the thing too often. It was purchased to help take down one tree and spends about 362 days a year sitting in the shop.

@  Darkstream : (08 April 2020 - 08:23 AM)

Sounds tedious

@  wonko the sane? : (07 April 2020 - 06:25 PM)

grinding wheel on a dremel and a lot of patience.

@  Darkstream : (07 April 2020 - 06:11 PM)

What do you use to sharpen it? I was debating buying one of those kits on Amazon

@  wonko the sane? : (07 April 2020 - 11:49 AM)

Wasn't the first time. I probably did it one of the times the chain jumped the blade, or when I was cleaning it or sharpening it.

@  Darkstream : (07 April 2020 - 11:38 AM)

Sounds like something I'd do. I always install things backwards first.

@  wonko the sane? : (07 April 2020 - 07:32 AM)

Not while I'm outside working with the chainsaw. If it's working fine: then I don't need it. If it's NOT working; I use hand tools cause there is a job that brought me out there. No time to read.

@  PlutoniumBoss : (07 April 2020 - 03:07 AM)

You can Google manuals these days.

@  wonko the sane? : (06 April 2020 - 06:06 PM)

I can't. One: we don't know where dad hide the damn manual. Not that he read it either. And 2.) I'm congenitally incapable of reading it, being as I'm male.

@  TheMightyMol... : (06 April 2020 - 01:52 PM)

Lesson learned: RTFM.

@  wonko the sane? : (06 April 2020 - 11:45 AM)

It's time for todays lesson! Did you know there's a wrong way to install a chainsaw blade? I didn't. I thought the damn thing was just blunted, but nope. Backwards.

@  CORVUS : (05 April 2020 - 06:41 PM)

CONTAGION is on my current watchlist. I'm kicking it off with OUTBREAK, and I have a whole lineup of pandemic-based films. I treat this stuff as a fear-innoculant.

@  SHIELD Agent 47 : (05 April 2020 - 03:52 PM)

My point is that of late, Taiwan's government executed lockdown procedures to great success. Vietnam has done similarly.

@  NotVeryKnightly : (05 April 2020 - 03:34 PM)

Didn't SARS just suddenly stop before it got very far?

@  SHIELD Agent 47 : (05 April 2020 - 03:24 PM)

*raises eyebrows due to familial knowledge of SARS*

@  Steevy Maximus : (05 April 2020 - 01:43 PM)

It was uncomfortably real in 2011, it's downright scary in relation to the current pandemic.

@  Steevy Maximus : (05 April 2020 - 01:42 PM)

It is, almost to an uncomfortable point. The virus portrayed in that film was FAR more aggressive and fatal than Coronavirus, but the sourcing and spread and impact hit REALLY close to home compared to what we're dealing with now

@  Maximus Ambus : (05 April 2020 - 04:50 AM)

Actually on the subject, I've hard a lot of people refer to a 2011 film called Contagion that they think is relevant.

@  Maximus Ambus : (05 April 2020 - 01:11 AM)

Ah well, I'll stick to the classic British sitcoms: One Foot in the Grave, Til Death Do Us Part and They Think It's All Over.

@  TM2-Megatron : (05 April 2020 - 12:53 AM)

There's always the original, cheesy as it is

@  Tm_Silverclaw : (05 April 2020 - 12:10 AM)

Dunno... Tonight one of the major networks showed a movie with plagues.. including that listening to their leader causes the first born to die. ;P So nah.. I think the Stand could work. :D

@  TM2-Megatron : (04 April 2020 - 09:18 PM)

That's probably the last thing anyone needs to see, at the moment. Maybe when we get to the end of June/beginning of July and we can venture back out, it might be possible to find some enjoyment in The Stand.

@  Maximus Ambus : (04 April 2020 - 02:08 PM)

I suppose the CBS adaptation of Stephen Kings The Stand will be delayed.

@  Rycochet : (04 April 2020 - 11:26 AM)

We'll always be together. Together in electric dreams.

@  Rycochet : (04 April 2020 - 11:25 AM)

Please remember that in these times of social distancing, we'll always be together however far it seems.

@  wonko the sane? : (03 April 2020 - 12:41 PM)

It arrived! Yay!

@  wonko the sane? : (03 April 2020 - 11:25 AM)

Given how the virus lasts about 3-4 days on metals and plastics, it's about the only way to go about getting stuff right now. I ordered a monitor mount for my desk and the delivery has been pushed back twice already.

@  Maximus Ambus : (03 April 2020 - 11:04 AM)

He ordered it online, says it was to keep those delivery boys in business. I did the same a week ago with some Transformers Studio Series figures off Kapow. Don't know if it's wise or not considering.

@  wonko the sane? : (03 April 2020 - 09:12 AM)

You'd be the first. Everyone else has either been frustrated cause the one they wanted was sold out (like during boxing week.) or rushing to replace something broken.

@  RYNO : (03 April 2020 - 08:53 AM)

I actually walked into a store the other day and just randomly decided to buy at 32inch TV. It was just a Vizio, and grabbed a Mounting Bracket for it. No duress. Just a spur of the moment wanted a TV for my master bedroom.

@  wonko the sane? : (03 April 2020 - 07:31 AM)

Conversely: I've never met a person who wasn't buying a TV under duress... so... yeah.

@  wonko the sane? : (03 April 2020 - 07:20 AM)

I think I've met maybe two people other than myself who count cables before buying a TV.

@  Tm_Silverclaw : (03 April 2020 - 05:33 AM)

Seriously.. HDMI splitters and switches are so bloody finicky, but most tvs don't have enough inputs.

@  Maximus Ambus : (03 April 2020 - 05:09 AM)

Just spent a hour trying to get my brothers new Samsung TV to read his Playstation and Blu Ray player only to find he was using a HDMI splitter.

@  Sabrblade : (01 April 2020 - 08:58 PM)

This morning, for one of my online classes, I had to give a positive oral presentation about a play that I hated having to watch. I went into it completely unprepared and just winged it. My professor LOVED my presentation and thought it was excellent. She believed every word I said and honestly thought that I enjoyed that miserable play. Best April Fools ever!

...huh. I would have expected the little peg-bumps to get in the way, but maybe not. Come to think of it, it's weird as hell that the little red ramps are mirror-flipped. You'd think it would be easier to make two identical ones.

In other news, my box from Shapeways has turned up, and while I've already determined that one of the items needs revision, I have high hopes for the other two when I test them on Monday (all my TR bases are at work). They're both variations on the extension ramp: one is longer, and the other has one of its connectors replaced with the type used by Micromaster ramps. (I figured since I was ripping off the design anyway...)

I just got in my first batch of items I designed based on suggestions in this thread. That means it's time for curves (which aren't showing up on the shop for some weird reason wait no there they go) and intersections!

I also received a test print of my Blaster/Soundwave offramp storage block, which is not ready yet. It stores ramps fine, but it has other features that I need to either tweak or abandon.

If you wanna get fancy, you can offer a mirror-flipper adapter for the ramps on Fort Max that are incompatible with other ramps.  :)

I actually do have one of those, but I did something boneheaded with the design that I didn't realize was stupid until I had it in hand, so it's not quite ready yet.

I just placed my first order for some of your ramps: curved and the extra-long ramp extension. I can't wait for them to arrive.

No news from me yet, but I've just discovered that Robot Caravan is also offering TR extension ramps. His are shorter and most of them have a "gappy" design (meaning they have holes through them, like Blaster's built-in ramps), which means they use less material and are a little cheaper as a result.

He also has a tiny fusion cannon for Nucleon, and if you don't think that went straight into my shopping cart then I don't know what to tell you.

Got my ramps this weekend and they are awesome! I'll take some pics tomorrow. By the way Andrusi, any chance you can design a trailer hitch piece for Energon Prime's trailer that is compatible with CW Prime?

Picture came out a little blurry, but I am really happy with the rams. Most definitely buying some more. Thanks for linking Robot Caravan's shop because that mini fusion cannon is so bought, as well as the Metroplex ramps, especially the TR ramp connector. :)

It looks pretty doable! Might take a few rounds of testing, though. Not sure I can really measure the ridges inside the peghole that constitutes the most obvious attachment point on the CW Prime end.

New stuff! I've been sick and then on vacation, so I had a lot of stuff pile up waiting for me to get a chance to test it, and as a result I have a pretty sizeable update.

First of all, I think I'm ready to offer the Ramp Storage Tablet, basically a plastic brick that you can attach a couple of off-ramps to and then store the whole thing in Blaster or Soundwave's chest. It's got a place to stash a Titan Master, and a peg and peghole and some decorative elements so you can potentially finagle a way to attach it in base mode. (Mine is pegged onto one of Soundwave's new 5mm posts.)

Second, I have the Ramp Inverter, for working around Fort Max's mirror-flipped connectors. Alternatively, it just occurred to me that you could attach this to the storage tablet and be able to use the connector on its underside.

Third is a weird doohickey that I thought of very early on, which is a TR-to-LEGO adapter. Shapeways Strong and Flexible doesn't really have the tolerances needed for this to be super reliable, but stuff fits well enough that you can build around it and have it hold securely that way.

And arguably veering off-topic, I have reached the inevitable destiny of everyone who designs Transformers-related stuff for Shapeways: I've started making weapons.

My first loyalty remains to Cyberverse, so I have several 3mm accessories to offer: tiny versions of Armada's Star Saber, Skyboom shield, Requiem Blaster, and Leader-1/Clench's weapon mode, and RID Battle Pack Sideswipe's club thing for reasons explainable only in terms of my weird quirks.

On the 5mm side of things, I have big versions of Windbreaker and Blast Off's original guns since FSS Carzap and UW Blast Off have kind of lame weapons, a launcher for CW Prowl/Smokescreen/Bluestreak because I felt like it, and I honestly don't remember why I made a gun vaguely based on BW Airazor's but more pure-tech-y but I'm pretty happy with how it came out.

Considering I've only sold like 2 items ever from my Shapeways store, I'd say your store is pretty successful. :)

It helps when you tap a market that is in demand.  My stuff is more just things I designed for myself but opened up for others if they want them.  You have the right idea with your shop, that's for sure.

Do they connect to Metroplex as well?

Totally buying some of those. I have to say Andrusi, as a big fan of Cyberverse, Mini-Cons, and all things Micromaster related TFs, I really appreciate what you are doing with your designs.

Now with that being said, where's my Energon Prime trailer hitch connector to CW Prime? :)

Once I'm able to secure a Fort max, I will certainly be picking some of these up!

Do they connect to Metroplex as well?

I haven't tried it, but I'm reasonably sure the relevant parts of the runways are identical between Metroplex and Fort Max, so I would think so!

Though they'll only be fully functional out-of-the-box in his land aircraft carrier mode or whatever that is. The thing where they're acting as runways. In city mode they end up upside down, so you'll need a ramp inverter for each, and I'm pretty sure they'll have to be removed for robot mode since the runways fold up together on 'Plex (whereas Max's just dangle behind his arms so it isn't a problem).

Totally buying some of those. I have to say Andrusi, as a big fan of Cyberverse, Mini-Cons, and all things Micromaster related TFs, I really appreciate what you are doing with your designs.

Oh man, if you're a fan of both Cyberverse and Mini-Cons, you're gonna either love or be totally baffled by the next thing I'm working on. Hard to say which, really.

Now with that being said, where's my Energon Prime trailer hitch connector to CW Prime? :)

I actually just got my test print yesterday!

tumblr_oiabljnQXr1rde8t3o2_540.jpg

I think I want to give it another pass, though. CW Optimus's trailer hitch is already at the right height for Energon Optimus's trailer, and the adapter inherently has to stick up further, so it has to go backwards a bit to get back down to the original height, and it can't go back down too soon because it has to clear Optimus's heels first... but as you can see I erred a little too far onto the side of caution.
