@  Diecast : (26 April 2017 - 02:17 PM)

That was a quality read. Both sides of that thread's argument went pretty crazy.

@  Noideaforaname : (26 April 2017 - 02:11 PM)

"When Beast Wars made Optimus a monkey nobody complained" ~ someone desperate for a 'gotcha'

@  Diecast : (26 April 2017 - 02:05 PM)

I want to find the rock they've been under that there isn't constantly complaining about something.

@  Diecast : (26 April 2017 - 02:04 PM)

For the lack if a better word, it baffles me when someone starts a discussion somewhere that's like "Does anyone else not like the movies?"

@  TheMightyMol... : (26 April 2017 - 12:13 PM)

Careful, it might have something to say about that.

@  MEDdMI : (26 April 2017 - 12:13 PM)

I'm gonna have to check your opinion out real good to make sure.

@  TheMightyMol... : (26 April 2017 - 11:55 AM)

Oppinions are like assholes. Everyone has one, but mine is better so shut up.

@  ▲ndrusi : (26 April 2017 - 11:08 AM)

To clarify on point 1 since I was typing early in the morning again, "you must hate exactly what I hate" and "you msut like exactly what I like" aren't actually the same statement but they're the same thought process which is "my opinions are objective facts." If you see someone espousing one, they're probably thinking the other, too.

@  lastmaximal : (26 April 2017 - 10:57 AM)

... what.

@  Bass X0 : (26 April 2017 - 10:15 AM)

Andrusi, I imagine to some people online, there isn't that much of a world of difference, at least going by the venom they post; although not at RiD specifically.

@  unluckiness : (26 April 2017 - 08:55 AM)

The scale of liking and hating is an interval one so you can not like something but not hate it. Pretty sure there's apathy and dislike in between there at least.

@  wonko the sane? : (26 April 2017 - 08:07 AM)

And humans are perfectly capable of hating things in unison while being divided on liking.

@  ▲ndrusi : (26 April 2017 - 07:34 AM)

On the other hand, there's a world of difference between "I hate RID" and "I hate Nazis."

@  ▲ndrusi : (26 April 2017 - 07:27 AM)

On one hand, "hating what I hate" IS "liking what I like." One of those cultures can't be worse than the other because they're literally the same culture.

@  ▲ndrusi : (26 April 2017 - 07:26 AM)

I think that comparison is both an oversimplification AND a meaningless distinction.

@  wonko the sane? : (26 April 2017 - 07:16 AM)

That's the internet effect. Distance and anonimity make for easy and consequence-less extremism.

@  Bass X0 : (26 April 2017 - 06:58 AM)

I think the aggressive "How dare you not hate exactly what I hate" culture online is worse than the aggressive "How dare you not like exactly what I like" culture.

@  MEDdMI : (26 April 2017 - 06:19 AM)

And now that song/scene and its many many parodies are running through my head.

@  unluckiness : (26 April 2017 - 06:18 AM)

Patrick Swayze didnt!

@  MEDdMI : (26 April 2017 - 05:58 AM)

lol. As long as they knock first.

@  LBD "Nyt... : (26 April 2017 - 05:57 AM)

Or as ghosts. I guess ghosts would be acceptable.

@  LBD "Nyt... : (26 April 2017 - 05:57 AM)

For now, I'd just find some small comfort in knowing those who have passed actually are in some sort of better place.

@  LBD "Nyt... : (26 April 2017 - 05:56 AM)

I'd find comfort in knowing that one way or another, that suffering would eventually end and a new, potentially happier beginning awaits.

@  MEDdMI : (26 April 2017 - 05:54 AM)

@LBD At the same time, I can't imagine wanting to stay in even a happy afterlife when fleshies are still suffering.

@  2017 : (26 April 2017 - 05:49 AM)

Celebrating and welcoming death just gives them more ideological hoops to justify killing others. So yeah, no thanks.

@  LBD "Nyt... : (26 April 2017 - 05:48 AM)

The idea of death doesn't bother me so much as no longer existing.

@  MEDdMI : (26 April 2017 - 05:48 AM)

at the very least, my body will feed the grass which feeds the antelope which feeds the lio- ....wait

@  LBD "Nyt... : (26 April 2017 - 05:47 AM)

Yeah, that's kind of the thing.

@  MEDdMI : (26 April 2017 - 05:47 AM)

Some cultures celebrate/welcome death (of course, those also have some form of afterlife)

@  wonko the sane? : (26 April 2017 - 05:45 AM)

You shouldn't be. What with having absolutely no knowledge or control over it.

@  2017 : (26 April 2017 - 05:45 AM)

Death is scary, which is why we either spend our lives avoiding the subject or staying up late overthinking it.

@  LBD "Nyt... : (26 April 2017 - 05:44 AM)

"Never did want to live forever." I'm more bothered about what -- if anything -- is next.

@  2017 : (26 April 2017 - 05:44 AM)

Though I think the brain is a finite storage space so you'd probably start forgetting so much after some point it'd be like a new person transitioning in every few centuries. That'd be a good reason to keep a diary.

@  2017 : (26 April 2017 - 05:43 AM)

I think immortality is possible biologically in the future, or at least living for vastly longer spans of time. I'd personally be happy to live at least a few thousand years, but I'd aim for forever.

@  LBD "Nyt... : (26 April 2017 - 05:34 AM)

@MEDdMI Oh man, that bugs me all the time.

@  LBD "Nyt... : (26 April 2017 - 05:33 AM)

Well, yesterday was a depressing bout of thinking I was going to get TR Hot Rod and then not getting TR Hot Rod after all (among other things).

@  MEDdMI : (26 April 2017 - 05:31 AM)

Which is also something that bugs me about the "your dead loved ones are always watching you" concept. Do you mind? I'd like a little privacy, please!

@  MEDdMI : (26 April 2017 - 05:30 AM)

Even if it was possible, I can't help but think people would skip to the "good" parts, like sex.

@  MEDdMI : (26 April 2017 - 05:26 AM)

exactly.

@  unluckiness : (26 April 2017 - 05:21 AM)

Besides the fact that it's all silly sci-fi scenarios, you can't just experience a memory and feel what that person felt since you have your own set of perceptual biases by which to judge the event

@  unluckiness : (26 April 2017 - 05:19 AM)

We already have something like that. It's called history class.

@  MEDdMI : (26 April 2017 - 05:18 AM)

"But in my ancestor's memory, they stole our orange first!"

@  Nevermore : (26 April 2017 - 05:14 AM)

"Your great-great-great-great-grandfather stole my great-great-great-great-grandfather's apple! I will kill you for that!"

@  Nevermore : (26 April 2017 - 05:14 AM)

If we had all our ancestors' knowledge, too many people would just use that as a excuse to continue old grudges for generations.

@  MEDdMI : (26 April 2017 - 05:13 AM)

I remember the same event a bit differently than my parents do, some things I'm sure happened but they don't remember or vice versa, etc.

@  MEDdMI : (26 April 2017 - 05:12 AM)

the problem with knowledge and memories is that our brains interpret/fill in gaps so it may not be completely accurate. It wouldn't be much different from autobiographical books/movies.

@  LordGigaIce : (26 April 2017 - 03:37 AM)

yeah...this could just end up as a way for them to sell our grandkids Crystal Pepsi Max

@  TM2-Megatron : (26 April 2017 - 03:35 AM)

Well, maybe this facebook mind reading thing I've been hearing about is the first step to that.... though I have to admit I'd prefer if it weren't such an advertising and data-collection obsessed company working on it

@  LordGigaIce : (26 April 2017 - 03:25 AM)

i'm legitimately hoping for the day when that happens, my snark aside, TM2-Megatron. Imagine what could be accomplished if future generations had first hand knowledge of the thoughts and contexts of the events that shaped their ancestors', and their own, world?

@  TM2-Megatron : (26 April 2017 - 03:24 AM)

Even if it's just a way to download knowledge and memories without consciousness from a brain, I think that would go a long way towards easing people's minds.

I think the concept of being educated and being able to educate is something that more people need more of in their lives.

No, we don't all know everything but we should spread and share that what we do know.

If I'm consistently misspelling a word, I would want and expect people to correct me as should I imagine all decent people who know the value of good literacy.

Its just arrogant laziness to know you're spelling a word incorrectly and not correct yourself or ignore the advice when people do tell you how to spell a word correctly.

Interesting that Starscream's new design is a new body in-universe. Aligned cartoons don't mention designs changing in different series, so are probably just artistic license.

I'm presuming Predaking mauled him after Predacons Rising and he got rebuilt to be bigger and tougher offscreen.

Shadelock, Roughedge, and the Insecticon seem to be hired muscle.

Nice to see the Dark Star Sabre again.

Phew. From the title and setup I was worried the plot was going to be Sideswipe gets shrunk by a relic.

What we got was something of actual quality.

Ah, okay, so this is definitely the first of the three episodes that'll be put together as a TV movie in the US.

I'd understand this odd little "season" of six episodes if this really was the end of the show, but it's clearly been proven it isn't, so it's just weird...

"Hey look, I found a prop from the last series!"

But honestly this was interesting, good to see the filler villains tossed aside and replaced by Starcream and some less-obvious model reuse. The Minicons are pretty fun and I'm interested where this is going. Sideswipe stuff was painful and made no sense because everyone has said nastier things about the Minicons at some point. Turns out they just hate it when you violate their personal space which is kind of ironic.

Sideswipe needs some actual development. He's all the worst attributes of cocky young heroes in action toons, which is odd because the pilot had him showcase humility.

Is Roughedge's model reused from something? It kinda looks Prime-y, and it'd be weird for just one of the mercs to have a new model, but I can't place it...

Looks like modified Overload. The big guy is an Insecticon, and laser eye guy looks like a Vehicon body with a new head.

It seems odd that Dragonus and Doomitron aren't among the other Mini-Cons - it'd make sense if it were just the going-to-be-Autobots ones, but Lancelon is there.

Regardless, I assume they'll turn up in the next two episodes, along with Slipstream becoming a Weaponizer, given thatthe RID toyline isn't really in the business of doing non-show characters.

Good episode. Not notably "better than" the show has been the rest of this series and the majority of last. It's been a consistently cool, fun show and this ep was right on target and tone with exactly what it has been.

Love the inclusion on SS and his mercenaries though.

-ZacWilliam, It's interesting that Starscream's goal is revenge on Megatron, whose status quo is currently unknown. I wonder if he could return next season. (Though I think we saw Steeljaw's VA is back next season IIRC...)

I'd understand this odd little "season" of six episodes if this really was the end of the show, but it's clearly been proven it isn't, so it's just weird...

Is it possible that Hasbro ordered 6 episodes to come out between 2 and 3 so that they would have some form of media to advertise toys during the fall?

I mean, the toyline has to stick around for a whole year, but the show only takes 3 months tops ot air all of it's content early on. As a business measure it fills a gap of content.

I find it REALLY weird to see Starscream as the big bopping bad guy after the disgraceful existence he was in Prime, it would make sense if it were a "well against a rookie team he looks badass" but he's suddenly huge and manning people around and his confidence is genuine instead of cartoon buffoon anxiety. Like it's not the show's fault, it was probably Hasbro that forced them to use the character in first place, but it's weird to watch.

I LOVE the minicons, this is easily the coolest the concept has ever been, I had a stupid smile when the electronic-horror music started playing as they posessed the Autobots. I hope this becomes a lore-thing, it's a fun idea.

Optimus looks colored different. He lost the black marks on his shoulders and the blue lights around his neck. Dunno why they changed that but I think it looks better, get on it Takara!

All in all, good episode, but that goes unsaid by this point. Hope the Scavengers aren't completely gone because I would REALLY like a retool of Bisk in those slick marine colors!

I dunno, Prime Starscream was a schmuck, but he wasn't completely incompetent or lacking confidence in himself.

I feel like he works quite well as a big threatening baddie here, if only because he's a good-'n'-proper veteran-of-the-war Decepticon, which naturally carries some weight relative to all the usual present-day RID 'Cons who are only Decepticons in, I dunno, a cultural sense? They've still never really addressed it properly, have they? At times they sort of acted like Decepticon = criminal, but then Fracture was a Decepticon effectively working for the authorities in a legimate capacity, so...

I like what they're doing with Starscream. It makes sense that big name Cons from the war would be a far more credible threat than some random thugs who apparently just get branded as Decepticons by an overzealous government.

But then as a whole RID hasn't charmed me, so of course I'm going to love them increasingly acknowledge the prequel that I loved.

I like how they kept Starscream's face the same and made it look as though was wearing a big bulky helmet around his skinny old head, it was a neat design choice.

I'm kind of hoping that we'll see more of the Scavengers, though... their role felt a bit truncated if their entire purpose was to dig up the Dark Star Saber and then get roflstomped by Starscream.
