@  Bass X0 : (22 June 2017 - 05:47 PM)

No. We still say miles. Kilometers is only really used for actual specific distances whereas miles being used in a common phrase is still miles.

@  SHIELD Agent 47 : (22 June 2017 - 04:59 PM)

People from outside the U.S.: as we are all English-proficient here, do you ever use the phrase "I saw it coming from miles away.", or do you say "kilometers" instead?

@  Hg Dragon : (22 June 2017 - 04:06 PM)

Wow, that was supposed to :shout" hours ago...

@  Hg Dragon : (22 June 2017 - 04:05 PM)

Indeed. Especially on opening week. We're talking avg, 5-8%. It's more at your discount/sub-run houses.

@  Steevy Maximus : (22 June 2017 - 10:25 AM)

AMC knows it, freakin $7 for a regular drink

@  Paladin : (22 June 2017 - 08:22 AM)

and if you want to support your theaters, buy more concessions. because they get SHIT from the ticket sales...

@  Hg Dragon : (22 June 2017 - 08:15 AM)

So, we charged an extra $1 per. F'em

@  Hg Dragon : (22 June 2017 - 08:13 AM)

First, they threatened to stop sending us digital because we weren't upcharging for it (back when we were still "mixed" format). Then they threatened to stop sendingus 3D because we didn't upcharge for those either initially.

@  Hg Dragon : (22 June 2017 - 08:12 AM)

Can't blame the theater totally for those ticket prices. The studios have a say in them as well.

@  Noideaforaname : (22 June 2017 - 12:00 AM)

Charge 'em for the lice! Extra for the mice! Two percent for looking in the mirror twice!

@  TM2-Megatron : (21 June 2017 - 11:45 PM)

Even here in Canada where price gouging is commonplace, IMAX 3-D is still $19.50

@  TM2-Megatron : (21 June 2017 - 11:44 PM)

$27 a ticket? That's ludicrous

@  Sean Whitmore : (21 June 2017 - 11:40 PM)

I gave up on IMAX this year. I was just about able to put up with $20 per ticket, but by the time the new Kong came out, my theater started charging $27 per. They must be outside their damn minds.

@  unitremover : (21 June 2017 - 10:50 PM)

I paid for a ticket to a 2D showing but they showed it in 3D anyways for some reason. I think me taking an Ibuprofen before I went for other reasons is the only reason I didn't walk out with a massive headache.

@  TM2-Megatron : (21 June 2017 - 10:38 PM)

One thing I'll give Bay and/or the promoters of this film... I like how they've advertised on the poster that this was actually shot with real, IMAX 3-D cameras. I wish the marketing of other films exhibited a similar interest in the quality of the equipment used. Hell, for some films, being visually interesting is about all they have going for them

@  TM2-Megatron : (21 June 2017 - 10:35 PM)

I assume the Autobots will be even bigger assholes in this one, especially Optimus

@  TM2-Megatron : (21 June 2017 - 10:35 PM)

I have my ticket to see it in IMAX this Saturday... looking forward to another bizarre, 3 hour spectacle of something or other

@  wonko the sane? : (21 June 2017 - 08:58 PM)

Bay already said he won't do another... but what does a persons word mean these days anyway. Doesn't really matter how bad the movies are (or aren't. You know, whatever floats your goat.) so long as they make money. And his flicks do make money.

@  Telly : (21 June 2017 - 06:12 PM)

maybe this one will do poor enough that theyll have to rethink their entire strategy going forward. and hopefully this WILL be bays last one (specially if it does do poorly). well, rethink after bumblebee anyway

@  wonko the sane? : (21 June 2017 - 06:07 PM)

Yeah... the reception for the movie has been... mixed to poor to say the least. Thanksfully, I gave up on the bayverse films after the first one.

@  Telly : (21 June 2017 - 05:46 PM)

well theres SOMETHING showing in movie theaters. whether it can actually be CALLED a "movie" seems to be debatable

@  Patchouli Kn... : (21 June 2017 - 05:45 PM)

Oh, is the new movie out?

@  Dracula : (21 June 2017 - 05:41 PM)

I got a rock.

@  Xellos : (21 June 2017 - 05:31 PM)

BB here

@  SHIELD Agent 47 : (21 June 2017 - 04:38 PM)

Who here got a Bumblebee shirt and who got the Optimus shirt at the premiere?

@  Nevermore : (21 June 2017 - 02:50 PM)

"Bowdlerizing" basically means censorship, in the "removing anything the person in charge of the editing considers unsuitable for children" sense.

@  Foffy : (21 June 2017 - 01:38 PM)

Sorry, not sure what happened there. Shout edited; link should work now.

@  Robowang : (21 June 2017 - 01:29 PM)

So bowdlerizing is sending someone to a 404 link?

@  Foffy : (21 June 2017 - 09:49 AM)

http://tvtropes.org/...Main/Bowdlerise

@  Robowang : (21 June 2017 - 09:46 AM)

What the hell is "bowdlerlize"?

@  unluckiness : (21 June 2017 - 08:39 AM)

Language evolves. As long as enough people know what the other's talking about, they'll use whatever term's handy despite incorrect etymology or meaning.

@  NotVeryKnightly : (21 June 2017 - 06:48 AM)

Just saying, it doesn't suggest that Xanatos "changed the face of cartoon villainy", which would require something like influence of Xanatos himself on cartoons in general. His name being used as a shorthand on the internet isn't really relevant to this, especially when it's not about his fame specifically.

@  Patchouli Kn... : (21 June 2017 - 05:36 AM)

The English language is a bit like that, though. We know what it means to bowdlerize something, even if very few of us remember Thomas Bowdler.

@  NotVeryKnightly : (21 June 2017 - 01:58 AM)

The Grandfather Clause page outright says that Xanatos Gambit is kept at that name not because Xanatos is super famous and influential but simply because the term itself is used a lot on the internet.

@  NotVeryKnightly : (21 June 2017 - 01:53 AM)

The site's had a history of being weirdly biased to naming things after specific examples even when it's not the best choice, though it used to be worse (i.e. Spikeification)

@  NotVeryKnightly : (21 June 2017 - 01:49 AM)

TVT's naming choice is hardly proof of that a character "changed the face of cartoon villainy".

@  RichardT1977 : (20 June 2017 - 10:47 PM)

I'd say he's second only to the Big Bad of "Watchmen" in that regard (younger fans sometimes check out this website, and I'd rather not spoil his identity until they're old enough to read the comic).

@  RichardT1977 : (20 June 2017 - 10:46 PM)

Proving just how much Xanatos changed the face of cartoon villainy.

@  Sean Whitmore : (20 June 2017 - 10:28 PM)

My favorite trope is "Xanatos Gsmbit", but my favorite name for a trope is "Xanatos Speed Chess"

@  Paladin : (20 June 2017 - 04:19 PM)

they're good dogs, Dracula.

@  Dracula : (20 June 2017 - 01:33 PM)

I quite like "All Animals Are Dogs"

@  RichardT1977 : (20 June 2017 - 01:03 PM)

Mine would be the Funny Moments page for Dragon Ball Z Abridged.

@  Bass X0 : (20 June 2017 - 01:02 PM)

My favourite pages are "comic book time", "not allowed to grow up" and "did not do the research".

@  Benbot : (20 June 2017 - 11:51 AM)

Uh oh, I just ventured into TV Tropes again.

@  Locoman : (20 June 2017 - 11:04 AM)

ALL HAIL THE DARK LORD OF THE TWIN MOONS.

@  Foffy : (20 June 2017 - 09:30 AM)

What about a cow woman?

@  unluckiness : (20 June 2017 - 09:20 AM)

Don't have a cow man

@  Robowang : (20 June 2017 - 08:54 AM)

or before 1992. Even worse.

@  Paladin : (20 June 2017 - 08:48 AM)

is it after 1997? then probably bad.

@  Benbot : (20 June 2017 - 08:19 AM)

I've completely lost track of whether it's in a good phase or bad

Played it for an hour or so. I'm not really a big fan of tower defense, but it seemed alright. The character models are really nice. I'm not down with pay-to-win, though. This would be pretty fun without it, just like Battle Tactics would have been. I'd rather just buy the game and have it, but I do realize that pay-to-win brings more profit.

I'm playing it until I get really burnt out and bored or I get Rust Dust and can read her bio.

-ZacWilliam, we'll see which comes first. Right now it's mild fun with occasional annoyance.

So... I got a 2 star Starscream, so now there are two Starscreams running around my base. Clearly this means Megatron shall fall, and then they'll have to fight it out for which one gets to lead.

Got another Victorion component from a 2* crystal, 2* Jumpstream. That makes 3.

Has anyone else gotten Bumblebee yet? His ability is an AoE EMP which affects defensive buildings. It also doesn't take much energy, so I can usually fire it off 2-3 times in a row. Makes a huge difference in most fights, even more than Ratchet healing my team.

Quite enjoying this, for now. I like the characters and their models.

My team thus far is:
Optimus.
Jumpstream.
Sunstreaker.
Ironhide.
Ratchet.
Jetfire.
Firefly.
Silverbolt.

The character designs are an interesting mix of aesthetics, with some like Optimus going full G1, while others are there CW designs, and still others are a hybrid of elements from across there various incarnations. Although Sunstreaker seems like a hybrid of his Universe and CW versions in robot mode. While being the Dead End(?) mold in vehicle mode, rather than the Breakdown mold.. Weird. Then there's Silverbolt, who seems like he's nicked Unite Warriors Scattershots guns and chest design.

By the way, has abyone on the Spark made an alliance?

I did drop $5 on it, but I don't plan on dropping much on this.  I've been playing clash of clans for over 3 years and have maybe dropped $50 total on that game over that period of time.  I don't plan on dropping any more than that on this one.  I just love that you can still play and fight others without dropping much money.  You won't win the game, but you'll have fun playing it.

I just got a two star Firefly, while having a one star Firefly. This is the one part i think is weird. I mean, you're going to end up with a lot of duplicate characters at different star levels. Wonder why they did it that way instead of simply letting the player combine their duplicate to boost their levels. It would lead to a lot less confusion.

And mean that you won't have three or four Optimus Primes wondering around your base.

Still, i like the game. Its fun without being to complex, and the pay to win thing doesn't bother me. Its just a nice way to pass the time. We do need an Allspark alliance though.

Slag and Headstrong are apparently coming soon.

-ZacWilliam, I can't see this game holding me too much longer. It already takes two days to earn the resources to get stuff at the level I am now and then like 8hrs after that to build them. If that gets much worse I'm likely out.

Game has my interest for now. I'll echo the comments that we need to get an Allspark alliance going. If we can't have a mixed Autobot/Decepticon alliance, we'll need two separate alliances, one for those of us that chose Autobots and one for those of us that chose Decepticons.

So... what's the big twist about Megatron's master plan?

"He learned, almost too late, that man is a feeling creature and, because of it, the greatest in the universe. He learned, too late for himself, that men have to make their own way, to make their own mistakes. There can't be any gift of perfection from outside ourselves. And, when men seek such perfection, they find there's only death, fire, loss, disillusionment, the end of everything that's gone forward. Men have always sought an end to toil and misery. It can't be given; it has to be achieved. There is hope, but it has to come from inside, from man himself."
