I tan nicely! But also have a family history of cancer... so... yeah, pasty for me it is.

@  Otaku : (23 February 2020 - 04:22 PM)

I really do begin to get sunburned after about 5 minutes of direct exposure, nowadays.  Side effect of already being pasty then going on a particular medication.  Yay?

@  TheMightyMol... : (23 February 2020 - 01:36 PM)

It makes me burn. Accursed daystar.

@  Maximus Ambus : (23 February 2020 - 01:33 PM)

Sunshine on my shoulders makes me happy....

@  Vexwing : (22 February 2020 - 03:26 AM)

I watched L.I.L.Y.Cat on there a while back, it was surprisingly good.

@  Steevy Maximus : (21 February 2020 - 08:47 PM)

@Dekafox, no DTP, but they DO have LILY Cat ;)

Next you'll say they have Dominion Tank Police and L.I.L.Y.Cat

@  NotVeryKnightly : (21 February 2020 - 06:06 PM)

Blugh, the english dub of BGC is atrocious.

@  wonko the sane? : (21 February 2020 - 07:02 AM)

I might need to update my software, or they face regional limitations, cause I found no evidence of either.

@  Steevy Maximus : (20 February 2020 - 10:31 PM)

DUDE! Starcom and COPS are on Tubi too!

@  Steevy Maximus : (20 February 2020 - 09:29 PM)

Spiffy! The english dub of Bubblegum Crisis on Tubi. It's gotten so hard to find these oldies on modern streaming services.

@  TheMightyMol... : (19 February 2020 - 03:53 PM)

Oh boy, here we go.

@  ▲ndrusi : (19 February 2020 - 02:34 PM)

Or do Japan's cultural values vary depending on exactly who you're trying to shut down?

@  ▲ndrusi : (19 February 2020 - 02:33 PM)

Could it be that, perhaps, these different cultural values might lead to a different approach seeming appropriate?

@  ▲ndrusi : (19 February 2020 - 02:32 PM)

Hm. Back when we were arguing about the Legends comic, I seem to recall being repeatedly told that Japan had different cultural values than the US (and therefore anyone who had a problem with anything at all was wrong to voice that opinion ever).

@  fourteenwings : (19 February 2020 - 07:23 AM)

Plus, as much as I hate to admit it, every single anime character is built to suit the audience's tastes so they buy more merch/do other things that allow $$$ to flow in the production committees direction, so the authenticity is certainly not for representation's sake.

@  fourteenwings : (19 February 2020 - 07:18 AM)

Both those anime air at midnight and are aimed at a very specific audience in a whole other media landscape. Major projects have press releases about almost everything, and there are groups just waiting to pat anybody on the back for doing what they want (GLAAD, HRC, etc)

@  B-Fox : (19 February 2020 - 03:16 AM)

It's funny that a friggin' anime about zombie idols and an anime about a school of anthropomorphic animals can have really positive trans characters WITHOUT a press release about their inclusion in the series prior to the episodes airing or having the creators announcing it on social media and patting themselves on the back for doing a thing.

@  Paladin : (18 February 2020 - 08:43 PM)

vegan meat must taste delicious. they're grass-fed and regularly exercised....

@  wonko the sane? : (18 February 2020 - 06:57 PM)

Vegans are better than kids if you don't talk to them. They'll keep the lawn trimmed anyway.

@  TheMightyMol... : (18 February 2020 - 06:02 PM)

Do you want vegans? Because that's how you get vegans.

@  CORVUS : (18 February 2020 - 04:33 PM)

Hook up your sprinkler system to a canister of healthy organic carrot-juice. The kids won't be able to get off your lawn fast enough.

@  TheMightyMol... : (18 February 2020 - 03:59 PM)

Just use the hose.

@  wonko the sane? : (18 February 2020 - 03:52 PM)

Ask bing. It'll be a FAR more effective answer.

@  TrnsfrmGod : (18 February 2020 - 03:26 PM)

Google, how do I get those durned kids off my lawn?

@  TrnsfrmGod : (18 February 2020 - 03:26 PM)

As an IP specialist, these threads make me want to scream.

So much wrong. And then there's the corrections/clarifications...with more wrong.

It's no wonder the TFWiki has pages devoted to brief explanations of IP topics instead of just linking to Wikipedia.

And that's just the law. Then there's stuff that would fall under the details of specific contracts that nobody has read, but people just know or assume was worked out a certain way, based on intuitions that are really nothing more than speculation, at best.

I'm just going to address this one and take a soothing tea:

You can't copyright a transformation scheme. You can patent a VERY SPECIFIC toy, but a toy that has the same jointing but is different otherwise is not infringement.

Check out Patent No. 4,516,948 based on G1 Optimus Prime.

The bounds of the patent are based upon the claims, which are just words describing the truck and the transformation scheme. The actual look of the truck itself isn't a limitation.

Meaning: A toy robot/truck with the same jointing/transformation, but a different look would be infringing.

Actually, it wouldn't even have to be an identical transformation scheme. The patent is REALLY broad.

Sadly, Buster, I have patented the concept of infusing plant matter into thermally elevated water and then consuming said fluid for relaxation purposes.

Your patent would be invalidated under 35 U.S.C. 102(b)

102(a)(1) if your patent is subject to the America Invents Act.

Yup. Patents are 20 years, give or take (some adjustments based on how slow the Patent Office is). Copyrights (for works for hire, which Transformers would be) are 95 years after publication, and can probably be thought of as lasting effectively infinitely given how the copyright term keeps getting extended by legislation.

I'm fine with this state of things.

I have some nostalgia for the Gobots cartoon. Leader-1 being a tiny subservient captor for Megatron was cute. The eHobby Gobots were incredible. Intended-for-Universe Crasher/Fracture was awesome.

But, like so many things, any fun that was in tiny Gobots crossovers has been unceremoniously bled dry. If I never see a Gobot reference in TFs again, it will be too soon.

Huh, didn't know that. Why does it work that way?
The purpose of utility patents is to cover new technology, in contrast with design patents that cover the aesthetic look of a product, or copyrights, which cover fixed works of art.

Throwing a new design over an identical transformation is essentially using the same technology.

In the Optimus Prime Patent (now expired), this is what the patent actually covers:
What is claimed is:
1. A reconfigurable toy assembly wherein a toy vehicle is reversibly reconfigured into a toy robotic humanoid and a play space, said assembly comprising:
a tractive unit; and
a trailer section; said tractive unit and trailer section being separatably connected to each other and adapted to form said toy vehicle in the connected state, and said tractive unit being adapted to be foldable and pivotal at proper portions thereof so as to be reversibly reconfigured into said toy robotic humanoid, while said trailer section being adapted to open and close at proper portions thereof and having therein an unfoldable play space to be used for a play with said toy robotic humanoid.

The rest of the patent basically provides context to understand what that means. But the scope of the patent isn't limited to the specific examples given, but to what falls under the scope of the language above.

It's broad enough to cover basically any truck/robot with a trailer that opens up into a playset. For example Micromaster Overload, Powermaster Optimus, G2 Optimus, Machine Wars Optimus, etc., all with different transformations, would still arguably fall under the scope of the patent.

Um wow I had no idea the wild fire I would cause with this. I was really only taking a guess from my knowledge in the first place. I guess some of the names are still usable for new Transformers like Cy-Kill and Leader-1 but for the majority it's a bad idea.

Wow I feel like Rattrap right now. "I know I know. Shut up Rattrap." :o

Look here mate it's Slag not Slug! It's metal related and nothin else in this day and age your just being pedantic! Plus how is a Triceratops connected to a Slug?! Not a invertebrate nor is it very fast. Don't look at me like that Slugs are a type of ammo broaden your horizons!

I have to admit, I always groan at the very thought that there are Transformers fans who want to integrate some random unrelated toy line/cartoon series from an unrelated company...
