@  TheMightyMol... : (17 May 2021 - 06:41 AM)

Like, in general, not going into specific bands or covers. Because I could point out plenty of repainted toys I didn't like as much as the original, too.

@  TheMightyMol... : (17 May 2021 - 06:39 AM)

Is a musician covering a song "fixing" it?

@  Nevermore : (17 May 2021 - 05:15 AM)

So, then, isn't redecoing or retooling an existing toy also "fixing" someone else's art?

@  PlutoniumBoss : (16 May 2021 - 10:07 PM)

A toy is not on the same level as a piece of drawn art, true, but it is 100% an entertainment product.

@  Nevermore : (16 May 2021 - 05:05 PM)

A toy is an object of utility, Comparing that to a piece of drawn art is grossly ignoring the difference between the two. Also, you didn't answer my questions. Try again.

@  PlutoniumBoss : (16 May 2021 - 04:25 PM)

Part of the difference is that those covers are primarily one person's art. Sure, you probably have an inker and a colorist, but the lines and composition are one person. A toy however is a team design at pretty much all levels.

@  Cyoti : (16 May 2021 - 03:52 PM)

toymaking is a collaborative process, you have to make compromises and factories are going to get things wrong

@  tigerhawk : (16 May 2021 - 03:43 PM)

Earthrise had a few holes, Runamuck's legs YIKES!

@  NotVeryKnightly : (16 May 2021 - 03:37 PM)

I doubt that say, the designer for Kingdom Cheetor was happy about every bit of unpainted plastic on it.

@  Bass X0 : (16 May 2021 - 03:28 PM)

J Scott Campbell recently had his Spiderman cover "fixed" by someone online. A few weeks ago, someone on twitter "fixed" someone's Sonic the Hedgehog fan art where Sonic, Tails and Knuckles were drawn as humans. Both times and other times, the "fixer" gets called out and criticised as you shouldn't go around "fixing" someone else's art because its rude and disrespectful to the original artist. And I was thinking isn't "fixed your s*** for ya" exactly what toy customisers do?

@  Nevermore : (16 May 2021 - 02:28 PM)

Have you ever changed your car in any way whatsoever compared to the factory configuration, or are you leaving the designer's art unchanged in that case as well?

@  CORVUS : (16 May 2021 - 02:28 PM)

It's best not to ponder it too hard.

@  Nevermore : (16 May 2021 - 04:16 AM)

Bass X0, I really wonder sometimes how you come up with these random tangents apropos of nothing.

@  PlutoniumBoss : (16 May 2021 - 04:11 AM)

It's collaborative art.

@  NotVeryKnightly : (16 May 2021 - 04:07 AM)

Toys are subject to budget constraints, so its not like customizing would ruin the designer's vision or whatever.

@  Bass X0 : (16 May 2021 - 03:38 AM)

Isn't customising a toy just "fixing other people's art"?

Perfect is the enemy of the good. And it's still better than making him a remold of RTS Jazz as planned originally. Fact of the matter is: Nightbeat is just not a priority with Hasbro.

The very light gray-blue looks excellent with the glossy black. Good choice over a metallic silver or flat gray.

If it wasn't for Packrat i'd like to exchange last year's box set for this years.

Apparently there is some sort of easy mod that can be done. Pete mentioned it on that Cybercast podcast but didn't elaborate other than saying someone would be on-hand to do it.

— BotCon 2016 (@BotCon) January 19, 2016

Six new figures and six new head sculpts from the boxed set? Am I missing something? Isn't it only 5 new head sculpts? (I mean, that's still impressive,  but...)

I'm glad they make so many figures, myself.

I mean, using last year as an example: I couldn't care less about Diaclone, but the Movie Megatron and Oilmaster figures and the G2 Auto Roller Autobots? I want those very much.

Yeah, doing such a large number of figures means a greater chance of getting the so-called "left field" guys, which they wouldn't otherwise do if they were playing it safer with a much smaller set narrowed down to the likely most-popular choices.  I'm here for the crazy.

"Left field" guys like Apelinq and Shokaract, Megazarak, and Sentinel Maximus? All of whom were released as part of a far smaller set... I mean, almost ALL of 3H's exclusives fit that metric, and at their most numerous they barely had half of the number of toys FuP offers each year.

If because there's so much exclusives that it's not financially viable to be able to obtain all of them, then that person is losing out on some experience of the convention.

I find it ludicrous that someone would feel like their experience was lacking because they couldn't get ALL THE TOYS.

If they made 2 toys, and you got both of them, your experience is the same as if they made 12 toys but you only got two of them.

You still have the same two toys. The only difference is that you don't get to say "I got everything."

And, well, if that's really that important to you...deal with it, I guess?

Edit: Not to mention it's Fun Pub's job to incentivize you to go for the biggest package and spend the most money. They want your money. That's how it works.

Sure, 100% of two total toys or 16% of twelve total toys is exactly identical since in both cases you get two toys. That's perfectly sound reasoning, thank you, Spectre!

It's only meaningfully different if you feel the compulsion to have everything. In which case, no, obviously they are not the same.

But if you are compelled to have everything and can't afford it, and you want Fun Pub to make fewer things just so you can say you got the whole set?

That's an argument and a perspective I cannot get behind.

You make this out like it's just entitlement and compulsion. There is such a thing as liking all the toys offered, or enjoying the theme or set in a given year. Having more characters ALSO means that, even if I DON'T feel some "compulsion" to have every character in every year's offerings, I won't be able to afford all the characters/toys I like in a given year if, say, there's a year with a set which I just happen to like. I loved the first Shattered Glass story and the 2006 Pre-BW story - I wanted all of those toys not out of some compulsion, but because I found the story engaging and compelling. FuP advertises the characters/toys through the comic and related fiction for precisely the reason that they want to create a demand for that character. To then make it only available via some $400 add-on (like they're doing this year), or to have so many that their average attendee can't afford all of them just seems mean.

I mean, you can argue that I shouldn't expect to be able to secure a toy for every character I love (even if one is available), but that's hardly compulsion or feeling entitled. There are clear reasons why people might want all of the toys that are not as sinister as you're making them out to be. And yes, I understand that FuP has a clear incentive to make as much money as they can, and that part of that involves creating more exclusives... But they also have an incentive to service the needs and wants of their target consumers. I'd argue that the ever-increasing number of toys is not the only (or even most logical) way to accomplish that.

The Attendee Figure that comes as a bonus with the Primus Package has a new head sculpt.

So it's: 1) Ravage, 2) Tarantulas, 3) Ramhorn, 4) Seaclamp, 5) Predacus, 6) Attendee Figure.

I resigned myself a long time ago to not having the custom class figures prior to the assembled ones being made available, but I am solidly disappointed by the existence of a Golden Ticket exclusive toy.

Personally, the way alternative version reads, it's just a slight redecoed version of one of the toys you can already get.

(I'd laugh if it was basically the whole Onyx Primal thing again.)

I'm assuming it's like a mold sprue share or something that isn't that all that desirable otherwise so I'm fine passing on it.

Now if it was say Bad Boy from Legends Powerglide I might be tempted.

Odd they'll tell us what's in the $399 set but expect us to shell out for $325 for a single Legend (and priority seating!) sight unseen.
