In my Marvel comic canon the second wave of special teams were handpicked active robots whose experience would theoretically make more stable combiners, the Combaticons came from Cybertron, the Protectobots were imprinted from crystals explaining both Onslauhghts ancestry and First Aid's experience.

@  Cyoti : (18 June 2021 - 03:32 PM)

Even with B5, it didn't follow its original 5-year plan. Summaries from the supplementary materials for the scriptbooks demonstrates that was originally planned was very different from the actual product. Sinclair's actor's departure seemingly changed the show to the point that the stuff with the Vorlons/Shadows, the Minbari and the ending were all changed. Mapping out a show years in advance is difficult because of changing bts stuff like writers/actors leaving the show or suddenly having to retool because of ratings/execs. No plan survives intact especially in a chaotic environment of television production.

@  Rycochet : (18 June 2021 - 11:27 AM)

To be like Babylon 5, you need to cram a 2 season story arc into one because you fear being cancelled, then get further seasons you have no more material for. You also need a spinoff which the network heads don't want and do everything in their power to kill it while it's on air.

@  wonko the sane? : (18 June 2021 - 10:33 AM)

The required effort is probably why we don't have babylon 6; TNG.

@  Dekafox : (18 June 2021 - 10:23 AM)

Everyone wants to be like Babylon 5 but no one wants to put in the effort

@  Nevermore : (18 June 2021 - 09:36 AM)

And then, after five years of hosting their own official podcast where they would answer fan questions and always encouraged their audience to pay attention to the mysteries, after the show had ended, they claimed the show was never really about the mysteries, it was all about the characters.

@  Nevermore : (18 June 2021 - 09:34 AM)

What really bugs me with "Lost" is that the producers had willfully negotiated a set end date with the network halfway through season 3 (the show ended with season 6, as planned) specifically so they could plan out the plot for the remainder of the show. Then... the plot wasn't resolved properly.

@  tigerhawk : (18 June 2021 - 04:17 AM)

By then I had lost interest in arc TV shows, I followed a few and got the impression they were just making them up as they went along. Seemed to be a trend starting with new Galactica and Lost though in actuality began with The X Files and has become a trope called 'The Chris Carter Effect'.

@  Nevermore : (18 June 2021 - 02:12 AM)

I think it was season 3 part 1 specifically, since they had two separate plot "arcs" for season 3.

@  Nevermore : (18 June 2021 - 02:11 AM)

They threw everything in there, with no clear story structure, no clear stakes, and characters flip-flopping wherever the episode's writer needed them to go for their half-baked plot.

@  Nevermore : (18 June 2021 - 02:10 AM)

Season 3 was the worst, with a terrible meandering random events plot.

@  tigerhawk : (17 June 2021 - 11:59 PM)

'save the cheerleader' then in season 3 he tears her skull open, scans her power and she simply heals. They didn't think any of it through.

@  Shockwave 75 : (17 June 2021 - 07:04 PM)

Well, you know Hollywood; if something's popular, run it into the ground!

@  Cybersnark : (17 June 2021 - 04:40 PM)

And then there was the Writers' Strike, which isn't the show's fault.

@  Cybersnark : (17 June 2021 - 04:40 PM)

Yeah, Sylar should've been, if not killed off, at least left to rest.

@  Nevermore : (17 June 2021 - 03:43 PM)

It never truly recovered from that.

And even if he hadn't physically assaulted a student, let's not forget that he was using his time as a substitute teacher to rant at multiple classes about "suicide, sex, masturbation, God and the Bible." I'd say this guy needs to go on a registry and not be allowed near children.

Liz Cheney was removed from her party leadership position

Trump and conservative media have not stopped promoting his election lies. The scale of his success is astonishing. Seventy percent of Republicans believe Trump legitimately won the election; of those who believe this, a Republican poll found, half attribute Joe Biden's stolen election in whole or in part to hacked vote-tabulation machines. Another poll, asking Trump supporters what happened on January 6, found three-fifths blamed antifa.

Virtually the entire party has tried to co-opt Trump's lies by diverting the effort into voter-suppression bills premised on his fantasies. Almost none of them will admit Joe Biden legitimately won the election. Instead they will concede he simply is the president right now and immediately change the subject. Asked if Biden is the legitimate president, Representative Jim Banks said only, "Yes, Joe Biden was elected. He was inaugurated." Asked the same question, Representative Elise Stefanik, Cheney's replacement, replied, "President Biden is president and the focus is on defeating his radical agenda."

This is the pabulum Cheney refuses to spout, and her punishment all but guarantees it will become the unchallenged party line. "I think [Cheney's removal is] very much viewed as a massive defeat," a pro-impeachment Republican told the Washington Post. "Having someone in leadership was validation and proof that even though Trump was attacking us, we still have leadership backing us and are allowed to survive within the conference." Trump, smelling hesitation and weakness among the party's leaders, is now free to hunt his enemies to extinction.

The problem I see here is that we have two major parties in the US, and if one of them successfully purges anyone who bothers to respect small-d democracy, then... what happens when election time comes around? Will the national media call them out on it or will they go into horse race mode? If the media is willing to call out the GOP for threatening democracy, will it matter if conservative voters don't trust any media critical of their side? What if the current GOP actually takes power again?

I suppose it depends on how clear of a threat their efforts represent to the continued viability of said horse race. If the Republicans start straight-up rigging elections to the point where CNN can no longer even pretend the Democrats still have a shot, they'll probably get off their asses and take a stand for a change.

And that's without even taking into account what Republicans definitely plan to do if they do succeed in establishing a one-party system. There won't be a CNN for much longer at that point.

I weep not for Cheney, but I worry for the future. The Party is actively culling the less radical membership, meaning they're only going to get more extreme, not less and so far there's been nothing to hint at a viable party to fill that power vacuum.

In a perfect world, that just means all the smaller parties we have now could just fill the gap and we could get some honest-to-God choice in elections, but thanks to those two dipshits Jefferson and Madison we're probably locked into a two party system until the wheels well and truly come off. Seriously wish they'd had more foresight into the future, but at least in Jefferson's case he was too busy cheerleading the bloodshed in France to care what ramifications his actions at home would have.

I think Republicans are unwittingly creating a system were they will start cheating as a way to counter Democrat's "cheating" and when caught call Democrats hypocrites and accuse them of cheating Trump out of his election. But I don't think they intentionally design to be this way. Moreso that they backed this lie against all reality to the point they are forced to believe that Democrats can cheat in elections in undetectable ways so they can avoid any type of regulation that would keep things fair so they would be forced to cheat to balance it out.

I'm sure historians will look back on this and try to boil it down to some sort of good vs evil situation with debate being over who was the good guys given both sides will recount that they were the good guys in this. When in reality is it that one side falsely accused the other but is to prideful to ever admit they could be wrong at anything and convinced themselves against all reason that the other side was doing evil.

Start cheating? Look at Dan Crenshaw's district, look at states like Wisconsin and Michigan where the party with the least votes have the most seats, look at the last Georgia Gubernatorial race where the person running was in charge of the election and polling stations in blue districts just so happened to need closing and relocating, look at how gerrymandered red states strip powers from governors when a democrat gets elected in spite of their efforts, look at how the requirements for valid voter registration were surgically created to eliminate native America voters after they turned out for a democrat in North Dakota...

Gaetz ally plans to plead guilty and cooperate with prosecutors

As part of the deal, Joel Greenberg will cooperate with investigators in a wide-ranging probe, according to one source familiar with the matter. For months, federal investigators have been examining whether Gaetz broke federal sex trafficking, prostitution and public corruption laws and whether he had sex with a minor.
