@  Nevermore : (17 May 2021 - 05:15 AM)

So, then, isn't redecoing or retooling an existing toy also "fixing" someone else's art?

@  PlutoniumBoss : (16 May 2021 - 10:07 PM)

A toy is not on the same level as a piece of drawn art, true, but it is 100% an entertainment product.

@  Nevermore : (16 May 2021 - 05:05 PM)

A toy is an object of utility, Comparing that to a piece of drawn art is grossly ignoring the difference between the two. Also, you didn't answer my questions. Try again.

@  PlutoniumBoss : (16 May 2021 - 04:25 PM)

Part of the difference is that those covers are primarily one person's art. Sure, you probably have an inker and a colorist, but the lines and composition are one person. A toy however is a team design at pretty much all levels.

@  Cyoti : (16 May 2021 - 03:52 PM)

toymaking is a collaborative process, you have to make compromises and factories are going to get things wrong

@  tigerhawk : (16 May 2021 - 03:43 PM)

Earthrise had a few holes, Runamuck's legs YIKES!

@  NotVeryKnightly : (16 May 2021 - 03:37 PM)

I doubt that say, the designer for Kingdom Cheetor was happy about every bit of unpainted plastic on it.

@  Bass X0 : (16 May 2021 - 03:28 PM)

J Scott Campbell recently had his Spiderman cover "fixed" by someone online. A few weeks ago, someone on twitter "fixed" someone's Sonic the Hedgehog fan art where Sonic, Tails and Knuckles were drawn as humans. Both times and other times, the "fixer" gets called out and criticised as you shouldn't go around "fixing" someone else's art because its rude and disrespectful to the original artist. And I was thinking isn't "fixed your s*** for ya" exactly what toy customisers do?

@  Nevermore : (16 May 2021 - 02:28 PM)

Have you ever changed your car in any way whatsoever compared to the factory configuration, or are you leaving the designer's art unchanged in that case as well?

@  CORVUS : (16 May 2021 - 02:28 PM)

It's best not to ponder it too hard.

@  Nevermore : (16 May 2021 - 04:16 AM)

Bass X0, I really wonder sometimes how you come up with these random tangents apropos of nothing.

@  PlutoniumBoss : (16 May 2021 - 04:11 AM)

It's collaborative art.

@  NotVeryKnightly : (16 May 2021 - 04:07 AM)

Toys are subject to budget constraints, so its not like customizing would ruin the designer's vision or whatever.

@  Bass X0 : (16 May 2021 - 03:38 AM)

Isn't customising a toy just "fixing other people's art"?

Perfect is the enemy of the good. And it's still better than making him a remold of RTS Jazz as planned originally. Fact of the matter is: Nightbeat is just not a priority with Hasbro.

@  Demovere Xeno : (08 May 2021 - 08:58 AM)

Generations Nightbeat never really scratched that itch sadly; he looked okay, but his transformation was fiddly, his robot mode had far too many bits and pieces flopping around unsecured, and his chest dragged along the surface in var mode. =/

@  Demovere Xeno : (08 May 2021 - 08:57 AM)

I second wishing that we got a Deluxe Nightbeat from TR, mostly because as a kid he was second-in-command to my old Powermaster Optimus for the longest time. =P

Frankly, I love mitch the bitch's suggestion! Let's take ALL the corporate money out of politics, and see which party gets more donations from voters.

Given the number of people around here STILL flying their Trump 2020 flags and with the Trump 2020 signs still in their yards, we still have a ways to go before the republicans are no longer a viable political party....

It's like watching a car crash in slow motion. At this pace, I'm curious if the Republicans will even exist as a viable party by 2022.

I'd like to see the Republicans enact this, and see how many ® voters are stricken from the rolls.

See how much support they have then...

...

Oh, right, cult.  As long as their agenda is being pushed and "winning" they probably won't care if they got to vote on it or not.

Republicans opposed the Civil Rights Act, because they thought it should be legal to discriminate against black people.

Republicans opposed the Equal Rights Amendment, because they thought it should be legal to discriminate against women.

Republican Betsy Devos thought schools should be allowed to discriminate against disabled kids.

Republican Donald Trump tried to pass laws allowing businesses to discriminate against gay people.

But today, Republican governors have finally decided to fight discrimination ... against anti-maskers and anti-vaxxers.

Stop making excuses for your Republican friends. They're awful people. Every last one of them. Awful people.

Conservatives think doxxing (eg- of racists) should be outlawed, because that is a public call to harm an individual. But they don't think hate-speech should be outlawed even though it's a public call to harm members of a group.

At first glance, this seems wildly inconsistent, but of course, it makes sense once you understand that their position is not based on the concept. It's based on whether they can identify with the victim.

To put this another way: If hate-speech is just "freedom of speech", then so is doxxing.

Conservatives: "Conservatism and racism are not the same thing!"

Also conservatives: "I am sick of all this leftist 'woke' talk!"

---

Pro tip: if you treat leftism and anti-racism as the same thing, then you are tacitly admitting that racism is a conservative value.

That's funny ... I don't recall Mitch McConnell telling corporations to stay out of politics when those corporations were selling beans and pillows.

Conservatives on George Orwell's dire warnings about the surveillance state: "Everyone should read this! This is IMPORTANT!"

Conservatives on George Orwell's dire warnings about state religion and economic class:

what happens when you run a dogwhistle through a bullhorn?

A new caucus tied to Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) and Paul Gosar (R-AZ) has shared a platform with blatantly nativist language, arguing in favor of “uniquely Anglo-Saxon political traditions” and new infrastructure that “befits the progeny of European architecture.”

In the document obtained by Punchbowl News, the “America First Caucus” vows to follow in former President Trump’s footsteps—“and potentially step on some toes and sacrifice sacred cows for the good of the American nation.” The group’s platform rails against immigration and America’s education system, claiming it “has worked to actively undermine pride in America’s great history and is actively hostile to the civic and cultural assimilation necessary for a strong nation.”

“History has shown that societal trust and political unity are threatened when foreign citizens are imported en-masse into a country, particularly without institutional support for assimilation and an expansive welfare state to bail them out should they fail to contribute positively to the country,” the document says. According to Punchbowl, Reps. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) and Barry Moore (R-AK) have accepted invitations to join the group. https://www.thedaily...ical-traditions

That's not only a massive violation of the Constitution, it's a massive violation of a SCOTUS ruling itself.  And SCOTUS has very rarely contradicted itself.

I see three possibilities here, only 2 of which the article seems to point out:

1) They think that declaring it as "permissive" instead of "required" loopholes them around the existing precedents.

2) They're just trying to signal to their supporters where they stand so they can keep in good standing with their voting base, like pushing abortion legislation where they don't care if it passes or not.

3) They're hoping it gets taken tot he Supreme court so they can get a dissenting opinion that tells them exactly where the border they need to toe is so they can rub all over it like cats in heat.

Most people interpret the right-wing evangelical embrace of Donald Trump as proof of their immorality. I regard it as 50% proof of immorality and 50% proof of stupidity. There is no way that the people who think Trump is God's chosen representative on Earth have normal, functional intelligence.

If you worship a god who once travelled in the guise of a homeless beggar to see how you would treat him, but you think it likely that his chosen representative would be a heartless greedy billionaire, you have to be a hugging moron.

Stop calling Marjorie Taylor Greene and Lauren Boebert "crazy". They're not crazy. They're evil. Every horrible thing they do or say comes not from mental illness, but from a horrible personality that is sociopathic to the core.

To call them "crazy" is to diminish the sheer horror of what happened when they were elected to office, by pretending that they're just crackpots. They're not crackpots. They're representatives of a re-energized white-supremacist movement in America. If this were the 60s, they would be part of a lynch mob.

You know perfectly well that you can easily envision Marjorie Taylor Greene screaming "string him up!" when Emmett Till was being murdered.

Republicans will deny that they are racist while LITERALLY donating money to any police officer who is on trial for killing a black person. Or even vigilantes who kill black people or BLM protesters, like Kyle Rittenhouse or George Zimmerman.

If you're a Republican, you may bullshit about not being racist but you must secretly know that this is true. If you shoot an unarmed black person or a BLM protester and claim that it was self-defense, Republicans WILL donate to your legal defense.

So Joe Biden had a speech the other day that went over pretty well with the country.  Of course, the Republicans weren't having any of it.  If it was pictures of Ted Cruz sleeping or Republicans not even trying to pretend to care about the country as Biden detailed steps to make child poverty a thing of the past, it was this stunt by QOP Congresswoman Lauren Boebert that was truly funny.

On Wednesday, April 28, President Joe Biden gave an address before a special joint session of Congress.[/size]
Republican reactions to Biden's address were muted to say the least, but there was also one Congresswoman who made a point of being as noisy as possible.
In the middle of Biden's remarks, conspiracy theory supporting Republican Congresswoman Lauren Boebert of Colorado noisily unfurled a loud mylar blanket then made a point of playing on her phone.

It was later revealed Boebert was trying to make a point about unaccompanied minors at the southern border.
The health and welfare of unaccompanied minors—children who arrive at the United States' border without any family—are the new hot button topic for the GOP. This comes after Republican silence while the Trump administration forcibly separated migrant children from their families for years without keeping records or setting up plans to reunite the families.

Many people online pointed out Boebert has no deep care for migrant detentions at the border.
She knows to succeed with her conservative base, she doesn't need to make any positive legislative changes.
She only needs to be seen disrespecting liberals, no matter how childish or petty.

Boebert wanted to be noticed during President Biden's speech and she got her wish.
But this may be a better case for being careful what you wish for than Boebert "owning the libs."

Oh so petty Congresswoman.  Just beyond petty.  But keep owning the libs.

Ironbite-the more you keep doing this, the less likely you'll get reelected.

That only works if the specific district that Boebert represents is... well... reasonable. There's no indication that this will likely be the case (even after redistricting).
