So in Civ IV, there's a REALLY popular mod called Rhye's and Fall of Civilization (like a version of the mod was included with the Beyond the Sword expansion pack) that attempts to make the game more historically accurate.
And like many mods, there are modmods of it. I already had a couple, one Europe-centric and one Asia-centric.
But I discovered yesterday that there's another modmod that expands beyond the regular Rhye's and Fall stuff (because the original mod stopped development, like the creator hasn't even been on the forum that hosts the mod since 2017) called Dawn of Civilization and like.
It's Rhye's and Fall turned up to 11.
Probably the best way to describe the differences between Rhye's and Fall and Dawn of Civilization is this:
In Rhye's and Fall, there are 27 Civs you can play as.
In Dawn, there are 48 Civs you can play as.
Although there is still one issue I have with Dawn of Civilization.
While there are obviously many new Civs to play as compared to Rhye's and Fall, it's still significantly lacking in African Civs, especially when you compare the improvements to American Civs.
Like in Rhye's, here's all the Civs you can play as that are on the Americas:
That's just four
And for comparison, in Dawn of Civ, you can play as all of the above plus:
So five more for a total of nine Civs on the Americas. Personally I'd have liked to have seen maybe a few Native American nations represented, maybe the Iroquois or Cherokee, but still, it more than doubles your options.
Meanwhile for Africa, in Rhye's you can play as (only counting Civs which originated from Africa, not ones where you can expand to Africa like Rome or Arabia):
Just like the Americas, that's four options.
In Dawn of Civ, you get those options (although Carthage is replaced with Phoenicia, which technically makes it not African since The Phoenician civilization originated in the Levant, but whatever) plus:
- the Moors
That's it, you only get two new options for a grand total of six African civs to choose from in the modmod. Like hug seeing all of the new American Civs in the modmod are post-colonial states, why not have some post-colonial African states as options?
IDK it's just a bit annoying that Africa always get snubbed in these games.
