@  Pennpenn : (17 October 2018 - 07:33 AM)

I was at work when it happened I guess.

@  Paladin : (17 October 2018 - 07:18 AM)

disappeared completely up its own asshole.

@  Pennpenn : (17 October 2018 - 02:14 AM)

Youtube was gone?

@  Tm_Silverclaw : (16 October 2018 - 11:53 PM)

I actually agree with you MEDdMI, or at least be creative. x.x

@  MEDdMI : (16 October 2018 - 11:29 PM)

Death threats are boring. Get to know the person, then torment them with stuff that really gets under their skin. *evil grin*

@  SHIELD Agent 47 : (16 October 2018 - 10:18 PM)

YouTube is back!

@  Waspinator : (16 October 2018 - 09:55 PM)

Remind yourself that overconfidence is a slow and insidious killer.

@  RichardT1977 : (16 October 2018 - 09:27 PM)

BTW for the three of you who haven't discovered yet, YouTube is down.

@  Telly : (16 October 2018 - 08:05 PM)

maybe this is that persons first death threat, and the creativity will come with more experiance

@  Tm_Silverclaw : (16 October 2018 - 06:14 PM)

Nah. Or at least not near as creative as some of them I've got. This one was a basic "If I ever see you IRL I'll slit you're throat."

@  wonko the sane? : (16 October 2018 - 06:00 PM)

was it at least a creative threat?

@  Tm_Silverclaw : (16 October 2018 - 01:07 PM)

Speaking of which.. Got a deaththeat today on an other messageboard. :D

@  Shockwave 75 : (16 October 2018 - 07:14 AM)

Arguing with an idiot is like playing chess with a pidgeon; no matter what you do it's going to shit on the board and strut around like it won.

@  Pennpenn : (16 October 2018 - 05:48 AM)

Well, there is also the fact that the person you're arguing against won't accept the authority as neutral (or valid or credible) unless they agree with everything that person says.

@  TheMightyMol... : (16 October 2018 - 05:35 AM)

Never argue with idiots. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

@  Nevermore : (16 October 2018 - 05:21 AM)

Anyone who's ever argued with dumbasses on the internet knows how stubborn and persistent they can be. Dozens of people can tell them they're wrong, and they' just stick their fingers in their ears and go "na na can't hear you!"

@  Nevermore : (16 October 2018 - 05:19 AM)

Especially if its a bet about an objective truth. Chances are, you provide overwhelming evidence for your position, the dumbass won't accept your evidence or will just change the rules and then claim the money you allegedly owe him.

@  Nevermore : (16 October 2018 - 05:17 AM)

I've just been reminded of a life lesson: Never take a bet with a dumbass unless there's a neutral authority accepted by both sides that will decide on the winner.

@  TheMightyMol... : (16 October 2018 - 03:42 AM)

Peace was never an option.

@  Waspinator : (16 October 2018 - 02:03 AM)

The war between the cerapods and the theropods continues to the modern era

@  Waspinator : (15 October 2018 - 11:51 PM)

The parrot, once I stopped pressing the button on the toy. It might have gone on forever otherwise.

@  Foffy : (15 October 2018 - 11:43 PM)

Depends. Who won?

@  Waspinator : (15 October 2018 - 11:37 PM)

Should I be worried that my 40-year-old parrot got into a roaring contest with a Jurassic World toy?

@  Paladin : (15 October 2018 - 04:38 PM)

was the bride's name Sarah Connor?

@  TheMightyMol... : (15 October 2018 - 04:38 PM)

A sawed off shotgun is fairly easy to conceal. Of course, they're also illegal.

@  NotVeryKnightly : (15 October 2018 - 04:19 PM)

Maybe they wear a really, really baggy coat.

@  wonko the sane? : (15 October 2018 - 04:10 PM)

I don't wanna think about the body type where a SHOTGUN is concealed carry.

@  MEDdMI : (15 October 2018 - 04:08 PM)

"If there any objections-" *Both sides pull out ridiculous amounts of weapons against each other*

@  SHIELD Agent 47 : (15 October 2018 - 03:57 PM)

Someone else quips in the comments, "I have heard of a shotgun wedding, but this is ridiculous!"

@  SHIELD Agent 47 : (15 October 2018 - 03:57 PM)

I saw a random shipost on Facebook. Evidently, there are people in the U.S. who have to ask wedding guests not to bring their concealed-carry weapons.

@  Tm_Silverclaw : (15 October 2018 - 07:09 AM)

Hey.. I tried to say that google game streaming actually works pretty good... Now if that's depressing, that's a WHOLE nother ball of wax. ;D

@  wonko the sane? : (15 October 2018 - 06:29 AM)

The box is being used exactly as it was meant to: for random conversation. If it's depressing it's because the group whom use it is neither oblivious or stupid and we happen to be discussing depressing things.

@  fourteenwings : (15 October 2018 - 12:27 AM)

I'm starting to feel like the box is being used in lieu of actual serious threads (not to be terrible but seeing this as soon as you get on the forums is depressing).

@  SHIELD Agent 47 : (14 October 2018 - 10:35 PM)

It's shameful that randos in richer countries pretend like it's not happening.

@  SHIELD Agent 47 : (14 October 2018 - 10:35 PM)

Small island countries are already sinking below sea level and being consumed by the ocean.

@  TM2-Megatron : (14 October 2018 - 10:28 PM)

Which is why poorer countries are some of the ones most worried at this point, I imagine. Wealthy countries like the US, Canada, etc won't feel the effects nearly as soon

@  wonko the sane? : (14 October 2018 - 10:05 PM)

Realistically: there doesn't have to be truly catastrophic impacts to screw us all over. Frequent enough storms will disrupt our infrastructure, which will hobble our ability to rebuild quickly and cause pretty big backslides in quality of life. I don't mean "oh no, I can't charge my iphone", more like "dysentery is as common as the flu because the resources just aren't there to clean the water anymore".

@  TM2-Megatron : (14 October 2018 - 10:03 PM)

If no, then procrastinate some more

@  TM2-Megatron : (14 October 2018 - 10:03 PM)

Well, the most important question: is it going to stop me getting some drive thru at McDonald's?

@  Noideaforaname : (14 October 2018 - 09:21 PM)

It's kinda nuts seeing insurance ads tell everyone multiple 500-year storms a year is the new normal, but the general attitude over is still at best *shrug*.

@  Tm_Silverclaw : (14 October 2018 - 08:18 PM)

Sad thing is... Boomers are still leaving their vile taint on a lot of the younger generation.

@  TM2-Megatron : (14 October 2018 - 08:08 PM)

Certainly the boomers won't live to see it, and they're the worst generation for not giving a shit

@  TM2-Megatron : (14 October 2018 - 08:08 PM)

We're seeing some of it, yeah, but very likely all the truly catastrophic impacts will hit once most of us are dead

@  wonko the sane? : (14 October 2018 - 07:46 PM)

Stupid thing is: We ARE seeing results in our lifetime, but it's still slow enough that we, as a culture, are willing to ignore it despite what the scientists are saying.

@  MEDdMI : (14 October 2018 - 07:41 PM)

Captain Planet we need you

@  TM2-Megatron : (14 October 2018 - 07:30 PM)

As long as nothing interrupts their morning latte and consumer-driven lifestyles, they're good

@  TM2-Megatron : (14 October 2018 - 07:26 PM)

Because humans are notoriously bad at caring about things they don't see happening within their lifetimes

@  Shrug : (14 October 2018 - 06:09 PM)

And no one else in my class cared. None of my teachers cared. My parents didn't care.

@  Shrug : (14 October 2018 - 06:08 PM)

One of my more frustrating memories regarding Climate Change is from when I was in 2nd grade in 1996. My poor redneck middle-of-nowhere school had a decade old science textbook written so a 2nd grader could read it and it had enough about the impending Global Warming that I was worried as a 6 year old.

@  wonko the sane? : (14 October 2018 - 04:45 PM)

Plus a MUCH higher chance of lake effect snow: since milder means the great lakes will take that much longer to freeze over.

So at Blizzcon Blizzard announced their new game, Overwatch a team/hero based shooter.

Cinematic trailer:

Gameplay Trailer:

site:

http://us.battle.net/overwatch/en/

Some info from blizzcon

Story
  • The game is set on Earth, 60 years in the future
  • Robots became very common in the future and they went crazy, attacking cities all over the world. The war that resulted against the robots was the Omnic (?) Crisis.
  • The strike team that took on the robots was Overwatch.
  • For the next 30 years after the war, Overwatch was a worldwide agency that displayed how great people could be when they came together, representing heroism and sacrifice.
  • In the last few years, Overwatch started to fall apart.

Gameplay
  • Chris Metzen is only doing one voice in this game.
  • Blizzard has been making competitive PvP games for a long time and this will be yet another.
  • Overwatch will have some dark gritty areas, but it will mostly be a world you will want to come back to.
  • The game is all about heroes.
  • The game will be accessible with non-twitch options.
  • You can do things other than put a crosshair over targets, as that is what drives people away from other shooters.
  • The game is less-lethal. You will die, but you should die less frequently than in current modern military shooters. With more time alive, you are able to do more interesting things and interact with your team more.
  • The teams are going to be 6v6, which is just big enough to make it fun.
  • There are Payload and Capture Point maps, no deathmatch mode.
  • The game is focused on Heroes, not classes. Each hero has a unique story.
  • There are 12 playable characters at Blizzcon, with many more to come.
  • Tracer has a ~10 meter teleport / blink that uses energy. Enough energy to do 3 blinks in a row.
  • Tracer has Recall, which puts her back where she was 3 seconds ago. This also includes health, ammo, and energy.
  • Lots of the story is going to take place outside of the game, unlike previous Blizzard games.
  • Regenerate ult by doing and taking damage.

Hero Roles
  • Offense - Scout, harass, press the objective, high damage. (Pharah, Reaper, Tracer, Hanzo)
  • Defense - Guard locations, create choke points, establish a front. (Widowmaker, Bastion, Torbjorn)
  • Tank - Protectors, high survivability, disruption, lead the charge, have armor to reduce damage. (Reinhardt, Winston)
  • Support - Heal, buff, utility. (Zenyatta, Mercy, Symmetra)

Maps and Game Modes
  • Exotic worldwide locations
  • Simple objectives
  • Encourage hero mobility
  • Team focus encounters
  • Temple of Anubis - At the base of a technological pyramid.
  • Hanamura - Temple grounds, homeland of Hanzo.
  • King's Row - 30 years ago there was a population of robots that lived below the streets. People were going to send an EMP underground to destroy them.
  • You can change to another hero every time you die.

Q&A
  • They aren't talking about the cost yet, so no idea if it will be free to play, a one time purchase, or something else.
  • There are elements of Titan in Overwatch, both were Earth based, there were some shared ideas, but it is different from Titan.
  • There is no customization to the gameplay. Initially there was a robust customization system, but there are too many heroes to keep track of all of the customization that can be done. Customization works in Heroes of the Storm because it is a slower paced game.
  • Overwatch will be on PC, consoles are something they can look at in the future.
  • It is too early to talk about system requirements, but they should be reasonable, just like other Blizzard games.
  • The game will be balanced so that two of a hero on a team will be okay, but more than that will likely put you at a disadvantage.
  • They aren't ready to talk about skins, leveling, or achievement systems yet, but they are all good ideas.
  • There is party chat and team chat, with party chat being your group that you queued with. The team is also working on VO and chat communication.
  • There will be some kind of long term progression in the game.
  • The team is looking at outside Voice Chat options, as players prefer that over in game chat usually.

I think it looks really good. the designs do remind me of Wildstar mixed with Big Hero 6 but still has a lot of charm.Looks fun will give it a go when it comes out

As much as I want to go "UGH, another online shooter" This actually looks really cool. I could see myself get into this pretty easily.

it enters closed Beta in Jan

Well, there goes my interest.

The designs are cool. I look forward to seeing more videos, or comics or whatever, with them and potentially buying action figures.

The game however sounds like it is very much not my thing.

edit: Why would you admit to having removed gameplay customization?

Oh. Tracer. /dreamy sigh

Couldn't we just get a movie using the characters and art seen in that cinematic, instead? I like shooters, but the experience as it is described (albeit vaguely) there does very little to grab my interest. The world itself is fantastic, though.

Well I'm sold.  I'm not big on shooters, but the crazy 'everyone plays different' mechanics are very appealing to me.  But even if the game looked crap, I'm completely hooked on the world.  That's the most fun looking new superhero group since The Incredibles.

Now the only question is if my poor pos mac will be able to play it.  It runs Starcraft 2 and Heroes of the Storm fine, but as those are literally the only games I play on it (that and Hearthstone), well, I'm hoping for low settings at least.  But Blizz is usually good at making games playable.

I think I want this. Wonder if that was a deliberate Monkeyman homage with the glasses. Only thing I disliked was Tracer's accent. Mary Poppins wants her back.

I'll definitely at least give this a shot.

Symmetra and Bastion are probably going to be my two top picks.

So what company would be either most likely or best suited to make a Bastion that actually transforms?

I've never bought anything from them because they're out of my price range, but ThreeA seems to be killing it when it comes to licensed mechanical designs. Although I don't think they've done anything transformer-y?

Pretty much my reaction. This is isn't the first time a game's drawn me in with characters and setting only for it to be multiplayer shooter with no story to it.

Weren't there controllable cyber-gorillas in a shooter a couple years ago?

edit: Ah yes, it was Mindjack.

That's what I thought of when I saw the first screenshot of this game.

Although, character-wise, I pegged Winston as a Hank McCoy/Beast type right away.

Blizzard Fortress. Instead if collecting hats you will grind out progressively more ostentatious shoulders with a real money marketplace that allows you to purchase sockets for your shoulders.

If a campaign of any kind is revealed, that would be enough to get me to pounce on this. Definitely. I'd kinda expect it be mentioned in the unveiling, though, if it existed. There are a zillion venues for gamers to spit bullets at each other, I'm going to need more than that.

Edit:

The deep and rich story will take place outside of the game. The story shouldn't hinder or restrict the gameplay in any way.

Welp!

Still, I'll look at a comic, or something. It's a pretty neat world they've built, there.

Hmm...

Metzen relayed the tale during an Overwatch press conference at BlizzCon. He also said that Blizzard is trying to represent a more diverse, less overly sexualized group of characters than they did in the past.

Yeah.. they're sort of there with the diversity, race-wise, but all of the female characters so far look like they have the same super-sexy body with slight variations.

The guys on the other hand have cool weird stuff like a dwarf, a robot monk, a gorilla, and an old guy completely obscured by giant power armor.

They're not terrible, but they could be better.

It seems like not all the classes have been revealed, so hopefully there are some surprises left.
