@  Nevermore : (17 May 2021 - 05:15 AM)

So, then, isn't redecoing or retooling an existing toy also "fixing" someone else's art?

@  PlutoniumBoss : (16 May 2021 - 10:07 PM)

A toy is not on the same level as a piece of drawn art, true, but it is 100% an entertainment product.

@  Nevermore : (16 May 2021 - 05:05 PM)

A toy is an object of utility, Comparing that to a piece of drawn art is grossly ignoring the difference between the two. Also, you didn't answer my questions. Try again.

@  PlutoniumBoss : (16 May 2021 - 04:25 PM)

Part of the difference is that those covers are primarily one person's art. Sure, you probably have an inker and a colorist, but the lines and composition are one person. A toy however is a team design at pretty much all levels.

@  Cyoti : (16 May 2021 - 03:52 PM)

toymaking is a collaborative process, you have to make compromises and factories are going to get things wrong

@  tigerhawk : (16 May 2021 - 03:43 PM)

Earthrise had a few holes, Runamuck's legs YIKES!

@  NotVeryKnightly : (16 May 2021 - 03:37 PM)

I doubt that say, the designer for Kingdom Cheetor was happy about every bit of unpainted plastic on it.

@  Bass X0 : (16 May 2021 - 03:28 PM)

J Scott Campbell recently had his Spiderman cover "fixed" by someone online. A few weeks ago, someone on twitter "fixed" someone's Sonic the Hedgehog fan art where Sonic, Tails and Knuckles were drawn as humans. Both times and other times, the "fixer" gets called out and criticised as you shouldn't go around "fixing" someone else's art because its rude and disrespectful to the original artist. And I was thinking isn't "fixed your s*** for ya" exactly what toy customisers do?

@  Nevermore : (16 May 2021 - 02:28 PM)

Have you ever changed your car in any way whatsoever compared to the factory configuration, or are you leaving the designer's art unchanged in that case as well?

@  CORVUS : (16 May 2021 - 02:28 PM)

It's best not to ponder it too hard.

@  Nevermore : (16 May 2021 - 04:16 AM)

Bass X0, I really wonder sometimes how you come up with these random tangents apropos of nothing.

@  PlutoniumBoss : (16 May 2021 - 04:11 AM)

It's collaborative art.

@  NotVeryKnightly : (16 May 2021 - 04:07 AM)

Toys are subject to budget constraints, so its not like customizing would ruin the designer's vision or whatever.

@  Bass X0 : (16 May 2021 - 03:38 AM)

Isn't customising a toy just "fixing other people's art"?

The 1988 G1 line up could all have been done as Titan Master things, I figure the Pretenders could be done as Titan Master Drones and Prime Master shells.

@  Cyoti : (08 May 2021 - 11:14 AM)

Perfect is the enemy of the good. And it's still better than making him a remold of RTS Jazz as planned originally. Fact of the matter is: Nightbeat is just not a priority with Hasbro.

@  Demovere Xeno : (08 May 2021 - 08:58 AM)

Generations Nightbeat never really scratched that itch sadly; he looked okay, but his transformation was fiddly, his robot mode had far too many bits and pieces flopping around unsecured, and his chest dragged along the surface in var mode. =/

@  Demovere Xeno : (08 May 2021 - 08:57 AM)

I second wishing that we got a Deluxe Nightbeat from TR, mostly because as a kid he was second-in-command to my old Powermaster Optimus for the longest time. =P

Well I call my wife dude so I guess some people's mileage will vary

Personally, I'm in agreement of Dude being non-gender; but I just wanted to bring up that not everyone in the LGBT community would agree with that.

We could always borrow some Southern vernacular and start calling folks "Honey" or "Sugah".

I would rather get called Dumbass than Honey or Sugah by strangers.

I mean, that is also socially acceptable. Though more in a group of very close knit friends then strangers. Not sure how socially acceptable shouting "Hey, you stupid dumb eff!" "Oh for fak's sake, it's these shitheads!" to nominal strangers outside a bar setting would be.

To be honest, the most common pronoun I use is "you," as in, "Can I help you?" or "Could I ask you a question?"

It's just something that came to mind regarding (typical) service industry scenarios. So like say you're a cashier or some similar job and someone forgets their credit card - and you need to get their attention verbally because you can't catch them fast enough. Normally, that would be either "Excuse me, sir!" or "Ma'am!" so in a situation like that it would be good to have a stand-by neutral salutation. I mean, you could just say "Excuse me, customer!" but that in itself starts to border on absurdity in eggshell walking when in the end you just want to give someone back their credit card, which is presumably the most important thing in this example.

It never really has come up directly in my life, but I've definitely been on both sides of similar scenarios. I don't even know what prompted me to think about it off hand other than I think I had to get the attention of an employee at Target before they could scurry off without having to make eye contact with a customer.

imo, using sir or ma'am is fine, becuase you shouldn't be expected to know a person's gender or how they identify.

I'm not sure how widespread it is, but locally we've just begun calling everyone 'sibling' even our straight allies. (or sib as short hand)

Yeah, I don't think there's something obvious enough that you can assume everyone will understand it but also not obvious enough to be obvious. If the situation is too formal for "Oh, hey-hey!" and "Excuse me" isn't clear enough in context that it's addressing someone to prevent imminent disaster, I think you divert the trolley.

I mean, if its an emergency situation... "HEY YOU!" said loudly enough should get anyone's attention regardless.

if it's a situation where you're worried about offending somebody's identity - then frankly it isn't an emergency situation and you could just run after them and hand them their card or whatever.

also in that scenario their Name is right there, just yell that out to them.

I've never really ever personally been involved in a situation where this has actually happened however so I have no story to tell about how I actually correctly navigated the rough waters of the social morays we're talking about.

but even still, there's nothing inherently wrong about making a mistake and then apologizing for it after you have learned the correct answer for that person from that person.

for me it's not any different than if somebody ran up to me and handed me my wallet that I mistakenly dropped and say, "hey Bill" you dropped this.. because they thought my name was Bill.  Does it mean I should get upset that they don't know my name isn't Bill, or should I just thank them for handing me my wallet? ...

hell I might even just say, "thanks, but it's actually Jon." -and if they happen to be cute I'd also give them my number, and offer to take them out for a drink some time as thanks.

but then again, you all might live a much different life experience than I have/do so again... *shrug*  its 2am here and this reply feels like it's starting to reflect that.

I agree. Mistakes are going to happen. If it were a deliberate thing where someone 's being an ass, then yeah, call them out on it. But it shouldn't be a surprise if honest mistakes happen. Hell, I sometimes make mistakes with cis-gendered people because maybe the face is so soft/hard or hair is short/long.

Again, if it's someone deliberately being an ass, call them out on it. Otherwise, people in society as a whole (ie. not calling out anyone specifically here) needs to get a thicker skin.

And on the other side of the equation, don't be an ass and if you make a mistake, apologize. If it's accepted, great. If they chew you out, slowly back away. Some fights just aren't worth having.

Sorta on this topic, a comic by a trans artist; about a boy learning he's transgender by first just wanting to look like a cute anime girl:

https://www.webtoons...16&episode_no=1

Little drama, mostly comedy, as Charon slowly realizes that Cheryl is more then an occasional thing. So yeah, the "I wanna be the big tiddy gf" thing isn't that odd for the current generation as others have said.

It seems either the comic has been taken down or My internet hates me. Don't suppose it was hosted elsewhere as well?

*sigh*
Never mind. Weird!
