@  Liege : (18 November 2019 - 09:19 AM)

Hound is at least a very good toy.

@  ThunderWear : (18 November 2019 - 09:11 AM)

Hound is the only other one that even comes close to Chromia in my area, and he ships in two separate waves.

@  Liege : (18 November 2019 - 08:58 AM)

This might be how they finally get rid of all the Chromias. I've not seen a shelfwarmer like that in ages.

@  RichardT1977 : (17 November 2019 - 08:26 PM)

It's a good deal if you want a full set of Refraktor (and if they have them at your location)

@  TheMightyMol... : (17 November 2019 - 04:43 PM)

Here we can buy two and get one free, but at least two of them are gonna be the same toy, because lol distribution.

To be fair to boba: everyone else to go into the sarlacc was a sacrifice. Stripped almost naked and tossed, and didn't have body armor, a jetpack and a weapon.

@  TheMightyMol... : (15 November 2019 - 06:54 AM)

Nah, he just has to keep up his plot insurance payments so he can shoot his way out of the Sarlacc again.

What type of vehicle does Boba Fett use for time travel? A Man-DeLorean.

@  TM2-Megatron : (14 November 2019 - 03:55 PM)

Admittedly, it's been a long time since I've been to a walk-in clinic, as I tend not to get sick (and the one time I do every 4-5 years, I prefer just riding it out at home), but the last time I went I'm pretty sure you could just show up, no appointment. It may be different in Quebec, though

@  Nevermore : (14 November 2019 - 02:36 PM)

One thing to note about health insurance in Germany is that we have a two-class system: mandatory health insurance is basically the economy class, while private health insurance is the business class.

@  Nevermore : (14 November 2019 - 02:32 PM)

My local doctor is actually a shared office with several doctors where you will get randomly assigned to one of the doctors available that day.

@  Nevermore : (14 November 2019 - 02:30 PM)

Also, employers are required by law to cover part of their employees' health insurance fees, so I only have to pay my part.

@  Nevermore : (14 November 2019 - 02:28 PM)

Basic examinations and sick notes (known as "work-inability certificates" in Germany) for the employer are covered by our health insurances by default.

@  TheMightyMol... : (14 November 2019 - 12:02 PM)

Around here, we can go to a walk-in clinic whenever, but might have to wait in the queue until there's a doctor available, which can take hours on a busy day. And then hope our insurance will cover anything.

@  wonko the sane? : (14 November 2019 - 07:38 AM)

There actually are a good number of clinics around here: but the walk ins require an appointment (what?) and are only done once a week. IF you can get an appointment, you see a doctor usually within 40 minutes, but good luck getting the appointment.

@  Nevermore : (14 November 2019 - 03:35 AM)

Depending on the day.

@  Nevermore : (14 November 2019 - 03:35 AM)

We have family doctors (called "house doctors") with regular office hours where you may need an hour or two of waiting time.

@  TM2-Megatron : (14 November 2019 - 12:50 AM)

Two weeks? That seems a little long; are there not a lot of walk-in clinics around you?

@  wonko the sane? : (13 November 2019 - 07:01 PM)

Does germany make it quick and easy to see a doctor too? Cause an emergency doctor visit can take two weeks out here, and an emergency ROOM visit can take 18-24 hours.

@  Nevermore : (13 November 2019 - 06:43 PM)

(Good thing is, under German law, if you call in sick during your vacation and see a doctor immediately, you get to keep your vacation days.)

@  Nevermore : (13 November 2019 - 06:42 PM)

Too bad. My plans wee to do two more overtime hours before having my last day of vacation for the year on Friday. Oh well.

@  Nevermore : (13 November 2019 - 06:41 PM)

So I'm currently on medical leave for a particularly stupid reason: Burned my back with a hot-water bag while sleeping last night. Though the doctor said I'm hardly the first person to have this happen to them.

@  Patch : (13 November 2019 - 06:11 PM)

Just a particularly odious example of the 90s era of depicting transgender women as either the subject of crude humor, or "Jerry Springer" material.

@  Ashley : (13 November 2019 - 04:55 PM)

I think Ace Ventura legit contributed to me spending years in self denial. I will never be ok with Jim Carrey.

@  Benbot : (13 November 2019 - 01:22 PM)

I thought he since changed his tune.

@  Tm_Silverclaw : (13 November 2019 - 12:51 PM)

Jim Carry Paladin?

@  Maximus Ambus : (13 November 2019 - 12:22 PM)

Don't doubt what he can do. Sonic the Hedgehog!

@  Paladin : (13 November 2019 - 11:51 AM)

not giving a dime to a transphobic antivaxxer.

@  wonko the sane? : (13 November 2019 - 11:25 AM)

It'll be a terrible movie if jim carrey phones it in. Otherwise it should be decent.

@  Paladin : (13 November 2019 - 10:45 AM)

sonics' still gonna be a terrible movie but at least they whined loud enough to make him look passable for a 2-minute trailer. "yay."

@  ▲ndrusi : (13 November 2019 - 10:37 AM)

But of course to annoying people there's no such thing as different decisions made for different reasons, there is only "I like it so it's right" and "I don't like it so it's wrong."

@  ▲ndrusi : (13 November 2019 - 10:35 AM)

Even if we pretend it's objective truth that they were both bad, then they were bad in very different ways.

@  ▲ndrusi : (13 November 2019 - 10:33 AM)

Sonic's previous movie design looked genuinely bad. The Transformers '07 designs just looked insufficiently like what certain loud and obnoxious parts of the fandom think Transformers are required to always look like.

@  Otaku : (13 November 2019 - 08:50 AM)

Um... Purple Monkey Dishwasher?

@  TheMightyMol... : (13 November 2019 - 08:25 AM)

Do we really need to have Every Movie Transformer Thread Ever in the Squawkbox?

@  Bass X0 : (13 November 2019 - 08:13 AM)

Sure it made money but that doesn’t mean it has appealing character designs. Lot of god awful fugly faces in the Transformers movies.

@  Otaku : (12 November 2019 - 08:25 PM)

@Liege My issue with Transformers (2007) were elements I thought were unnecessary.  I know it was supposed to just be a joke, but I didn't ever need to hear about "Sam's Happy Time". >.> Which, being in awe of the first "live action" TF-film, didn't even register until I'd already purchased and watched it on DVD a few times (after seeing it in theaters 3 times).

@  Liege : (12 November 2019 - 08:22 PM)

For all the Bayisms in the 07 movie, it was tempered by Spielberg as producer. Designs aside it was an enjoyable popcorn blockbuster about a boy and his first car who happens to be an alien from another planet. They sequels are just Bay going unchecked after he proved how much bank he could bring in.

@  TM2-Megatron : (12 November 2019 - 07:12 PM)

I didn't find the designs in the '07 movie to be that bad, personally. What got really offputting was how Cybertronians in general become such huge a-holes in the later films; the designs were very much secondary to their horrible personalities

Some of the stuff that occurs south of the border is just... Bizarre.

One of the drops is a Donkey Show Flipbook. Viewing it gives you Complete Sleaze Damage Immunity for ten adventures, because 'That's it, you've seen it all, nothing could POSSIBLY get any lower than that.'

So I'm 1/8th through what might be the longest quest in the game: The Island war. At least, in the manner in which I'm doing it.

Hippies vs. Frat Orcs. The Kingdom wants to stir up a war between them so that they can clear out the troublemakers in time for vacation season. You disguise yourself as one side or the other, agitate the conflict to open war, and then fight on one side or the other until you slaughter 1000 of one side, effectively bombing them back to the stone age (Literally. As in their instances are populated with Neanderthal versions.)

Around the battlefield are six sub-quest areas. Three are Frat subquests, three are Hippie subquests. If you have a certain number of kills, though, you can complete the subquest disguised as the opposing team, and get better immediate loot for the quest completion. (64, 192, and 458 kills, to unlock said opposing-side subquests.)

Each subquest completed, however, DOUBLES the number of kills you get on the battlefield, when adventuring for the side you completed the subquest for, since you rally extra troops around yourself. Zero Subquests =1 kill per fight, then two, four, eight, sixteen, thirty two, or sixty four kills per fight. (Switching costumes and fighting for the opposing side loses this bonus, though, and you can only complete each subquest for a single side, per ascension.)

Once you kill off a side and the war is over, you get a medal for your efforts. What medal you get depends on how many subquests you completed, and which side was wiped out. These medals give you +5 to all attributes, +1 per subquest completed, and +11% items dropped, -1% per subquest completed. So, seven variants of medals, in two flavours, for fourtteen medals possible.

But the big secret is: If you keep REALLY good track of your kills (cumulative with the bonus kills from your army), and only kill off 999 of BOTH sides, so there's only one left per side... You can trigger a 'Final climactic showdown' event. And if you've saved a Pirate Flare Gun, which calls in a Pirate Cannon Barrage, you wipe out BOTH sides at once. (The pirates are also usually found on the island, but are conspicuously absent. Literally, their instance reads 'Conspicuous absence of pirates' while the war is on.) You then get the fifteenth possible medal, which gives you +11 to all stats, +11% item drops, and +11% meat drops.

The trick is, the game won't blatantly tell you your kill count, so you've got to get real good at record keeping.

Anyhow: You can only wear one of each medal, and each medal takes up one Acessory slot. But on your third ascension, you can theoretically be trotting about with +33 to all stats, +16% item drops, and +11% meat drops from accessories ALONE.

Or +16 stats, +33% item, and +11% meats, or any variant therin.

Noice.

Y'see, I didn't realize that you had to do all the Sidequests as one side or the other in the Hippy/Frat-Orc war in order to get one of the best medals. I thought I was being a little smarty-pants by doing them all with different uniforms. So now that I know better, I'm going for broke and getting one of the awesome medals. When I reach that point again.

And since I'm currently getting my ass kicked in The Defiled Cyrpt [sic], I think I may be quite a ways off from that goal.

Cheat like a mofo.

Kingdomofbuffing.com

That, and maximize your Moxie. Makes you harder to hit; Get it high enough, and you'll be untouchable. There's an entire 'Adventure without getting hit' subsection on the KoL Wiki.

And, if you're going for the Order of the Silver Wossname during the Island War, I'd recommend NOT doing it like I did. I started it, and got myself locked into a good week or more on this one quest, and the 'Do opposing side's side quests' gifts really aren't worth the massive hassle. (You can pick up those bonus gifts on your second or third ascension much more easily by fighting for one side only and doing all six sidequests for one side. Also makes the entire war a snap, too.)

Better scheme: Kill one guy on the battlefield. Do a side quest for your own side. Kill one more guy. Do a second side quest. Kill a third guy, do one more sidequest. Kill 124 more guys. Switch outfits, repeat. Remember, since each sidequest doubles the opposing army kills you get for each adventure, the numbers crunch out to 999 kills per side.

That reduces it from 528 adventures out on the battlefield, to only 252, to be left with only the two bosses. Then go out on the battlefield, trigger the Final Showdown event, and call in the pirate airstrike.

More immediate news: Jick has removed the Evil Golden Arches item, which USED to give you a single food item per day, from your campground. It's now a single-use item worth three burgers and then it disintegrates. This is coupled with the Orcish meat locker being removed, too. This is clearing out a fair bit of campground space, so there's some speculation of PVP upgrades to arrive soon.

Also, there's an extremely difficult Ascension type, known as Bad Moon. In this ascension, and only in this ascension, you get access to Hey Deze directly, and can buy up Evil Golden Arches food in a store. Possibly the nerfing of the Evil Golden Arches is to make the Bad Moon more appealing.

I left him until after I cleared another couple of quests, and then came back severey overlevelled. The Bonerdagon is where the game throws off the kid gloves.

You need to be 98 moxie to be untouchable to the Bonerdagon, including spell and equipment buffs. An Elemental Saucesphere is just a generally good idea, as is anything that gives Spooky resistance.

Also, the Bonerdagon is vulnerable to Hot and Stench damage, taking double damage from those.

True, but that costs adventures.

Prior to this, the Golden Arches were just THERE, cost nothing to use.

Now you gotta burn four or five adventures to get two Arch drops.

Go for it. It only takes, ehn, two days at most if you're gonna crush one side alone. (Or a bloody week if you want the +5 stats +11% drops medal, since you gotta kill each of the 1000 individually.)
