@  wonko the sane? : (28 May 2020 - 08:14 PM)

Within the US anyway. Those channels aren't easy or cheap to access in other countries, and their website often region lock content. Tubi is the only good thing on that list: largely identical (but not perfectly so. Damnit. I wanna watch COPS.) country to country and free.

@  Steevy Maximus : (28 May 2020 - 07:24 PM)

So yeah, Hasbro is using plenty of venues to spread exposure of their brands

@  Steevy Maximus : (28 May 2020 - 07:23 PM)

Starz currently licenses Transformers G1 and the GI Joe movie (as well as MLP specials). Netflix has more current series available.

@  Steevy Maximus : (28 May 2020 - 07:18 PM)

Tubi TV and Youtube both host various Hasbro cartoons. Both are freely accessed and ad supported. Any basic TV package (barring straight antenna) includes channels like USA Network, SyFy and FX, all of which regularly air the films from Transformers and GI Joe.

@  wonko the sane? : (28 May 2020 - 06:18 PM)

I dunno what to tell you, media might be changing slowly, but at least it's still accessible. Even the folks that DON'T get one of the streaming services can watch it on the company website. It's a vehicle for the toy line after all, they need to make an effort to make it as consumable as possible.

@  -LittleAutob... : (28 May 2020 - 05:41 PM)

Well. Thats said, then.... I guess... :doh

@  wonko the sane? : (28 May 2020 - 04:13 PM)

As long as the the cartoons are profitable, then they'll make more. The media it's shown on is completely irrelevant. I say that as a guy whose earliest surviving memory is a big red truck turning into a big red robot.

@  ZakuConvoy : (28 May 2020 - 03:06 PM)

Might be the end of an era. With the rise of streaming, who knows if Transformers will ever be on broadcast TV again.

@  -LittleAutob... : (28 May 2020 - 11:46 AM)

I might have just happened across a previously undocumented 1984 Transformers commercial while watching the programme it was embedded in on Youtube: the animation included in the first half doesn't seem to be new, but the second half advertises the Decepticon spy cassettes and mini-Autobots (including Bumper, if my eyes don't deceive me!). It's from UK television, but I have the impression that the UK adverts reused US footage and just supplied a different voice-over. Anyway, I thought I'd mention it in case it's of interest.

EDIT: and there's a second advert later in the same programme, saying that Soundwave is the Decepticon leader!

Yeah, 'warrior robots in disguise' was what they were called here.

It also appeared in 1984 UK catalogs:

By 1985, the UK catalogs were changed to simply "Robots in Disguise":

TFTM wasn't successful because at the time, there wasn't any way for studios to fight film piracy. So the box office returns were diminished by people downloading the film from torrent sites like ThePirateBay or file sharing programs like KaZaa.

Is this kind of pedantic picking-apart of normal English localization actually that necessary? You might as well just watch both versions of the episode in the time it would take for you to read this entire section now.

Okay, so this might very well be a "Mandela Effect" situation, but in the past, I've always been right about this kind of thing one way or another.

Cover B of the final issue of Lost Light:

LL25_cvrB.jpg

My brain keeps telling me this is an homage to a specific superhero comic book cover, most likely a Justice League cover, presumably from the 1990s era, the same one that gave us countless variations and parodies of the "crammed group shot" that's been homaged and parodied by MTMTE/Lost Light multiple times.

However, I can't for the life of me track down this supposed original inspiration, and it's driving me mad.

The closest things I could find are the covers of Justice League Europe #36, Justice League America #58, Superman (vol. 2) #100 and of "JL?" (part of the "Justice Leagues" event), but none of them are even remotely close to that Lost Light cover.

Justice_League_Europe_36.jpg  Justice_League_America_58.jpg Superman_Vol_2_100.jpg Justice_Leagues_JL_Vol_1_1.jpg

So, have I just been conflating these four covers in my head? Or is there a different, very distinct inspiration for this cover? I'm also certain the one I'm half-remembering specifically has a trail of abondoned costumes at its center, which neither of these has.

Oh hey, remember  how last year I insisted on the Mini-spies only being named that in the TV commercial (and much later in Dreamwave's MTMTE profile book), while the toys themselves are simply called "Motorized Transformer" on the Minicars' packaging?

It gets weirder!

Maz actually reported this two years ago.

Apparantly there was a Japanese company named Koma that released licensed versions of Takara's pre-Transformers "Mecha Senshi" figures, both as pre-assembled and model kit versions. Aaaaand then a vintage Hasbro shipping case identifies the Minicar assortment as "Minicar asst w/ Koma car". Huh?

So I hate to bring this topic up again, but I must. Because consistency and all.

So... first, Cyberverse Scout Class Bumblebee v2, and the Scout Class figures in general.
Scout_wave_5_Bumblebee_packaging_US.jpg Scout_wave_5_Bumblebee_robot.jpg Scout_wave_5_Bumblebee_attack.jpg

This figure was originally revealed by Hasbro as part of a batch of stock renders released shortly after last year's San Diego Comic-Con. For whatever reason, Seibertron was the only site that ever posted the renders of Scout Bumblebee.

Eventually, Bumblebee was also listed at Amazon and Target, complete with the stock photos I posted above. However, no online retailer ever solicited an actual wave containing the figure, and therefore, any assumption as to what wave he would have been released in, or which other figures would have been in that wave, is pure conjecture. The only thing I have are stock photos for re-releases of Ratchet (found at various Brazilian online retailers) and Megatron (found at a US distributor's website) in "Power of the Spark" packaging, neither of which was ever released to my knowledge.
Scout_wave_3_Ratchet_packaging_POTS_US.jpg  Scout_wave_1_Megatron_packaging_POTS_US.jpg

Instead, all retailers around the world skipped straight ahead to the Dead End/Ramjet wave in "Battle for Cybertron" packaging (which also included re-releases of Grimlock and Optimus Prime, the latter in "Bumblebee: Cyberverse Adventures" packaging). Most interstingly, there's a gap in Entertainment Earth's wave numbering:

The first "Power of the Spark"-branded wave that featured the Optimus Prime retool and Scraplet (plus re-releases of Starscream and Grimlock) is labeled as  "wave 5".

Entertainment Earth doesn't list a "wave 6" at all, which would be located here if it existed.

The Dead End/Ramjet/Optimus Prime/Grimlock wave is "wave 8" according to Entertainment Earth.

Then recently, another wave was found in the UK, which features an all-new Wheeljack figure (previously glimpsed in a single photo from this year's Toy Fair) as well as that previously unreleased new Bumblebee figure in "Bumblebee: Cyberverse Adventures" packaging.
Scout_wave_7_Wheeljack_packaging.jpg Scout_wave_7_Wheeljack_robot.jpg Scout_wave_7_Wheeljack_attack.jpg  Scout_wave_5_Bumblebee_packaging_BCA.jpg

Now Entertainment Earth is listing that wave (which also includes a re-release of Megatron in "Bumblebee: Cyberverse Adventures" packaging, which I previously found a stock photo of at the Target website)... as "wave 7".
Scout_wave_1_Megatron_packaging_BCA.jpg

So just to sum it up:

Wave 5: released, contains: new figures Optimus Prime and Scraplet, plus Grimlock and Starscream re-releases
Wave 6: unreleased, supposedly contains: new figure Bumblebee, plus Ratchet and Megatron re-releases
Wave 7: released in the UK, contains: new figure Wheeljack, plus Bumblebee, Megatron and Optimus Prime re-releases
Wave 8: released, contains: new figures Ramjet and Dead End, plus Optimus Prime and Grimlock re-releases

The main problem is that Bumblebee was apparently supposed to debuts in wave 6, which was officially unsolicited, making "wave 7" his actual debut. Except that wave 6 remains unreleased, which would technically make wave 7 "wave 6" contrary to the official numbering?
The lesser problem is that "wave 7" was released considerably later than "wave 8". While there have been instances in the past where the release order of waves at retail didn't match the official wave numbering, those were usually released in close succession, not several months apart.

How the hell to we untangle this hot mess for the Wiki?

The second issue is the "Battle for Cybertron" versus "Bumblebee: Cyberverse Adventures" subline imprint branding.

There are two possibilities:

A) "Battle for Cybertron" was originally intended to be the new subline imprint for 2020, but Hasbro decided at the last moment to change the name to "Bumblebee: Cyberverse Adventures" for whatever reason. Evidence: The "Battle for Cybertron" branding only appears on packaging for figures included in the first 2020 wave of each assortment. All 2020 wave 2 debuts are consistently branded "Bumblebee: Cyberverse Adventures". Evidence 2: Though the stock photos for the 2020 wave 1 Ultimate Class figures depict a "Battle for Cybertron" branding, the actual figures released at retail are branded "Bumblebee: Cyberverse Adventures" instead.
B) "Battle for Cybertron" is a deliberate concurrent subline imprint branding that is fully supposed to co-exist with "Bumblebee: Cyberverse Adventures". Evidence: "Battle for Cybertron" is the title of the opening four-parter of the third season of the Cyberverse cartoon (which is titled "Bumblebee: Cyberverse Adventures"), and the Target exclusive "Cybertronian Villains" sets are branded as part of "Battle for Cybertron".

Here's the complete rundown on which figures are branded what:

We get one shot of Overlord's smashed body drifting in space, on page 7. He's... preeeetty clearly making a fist, with a handy piece of space debris floating past in the foreground obscuring what may or may not be in that fist. Worrisome.

This was a total fake-out and ended up meaning nothing in the story - right?
