What stupid thing did the GOP say or do this time? Episode 3!

Florida is not the only state forgetting that it can't go against the First Amendment:

Five years ago, a bill like this would violate federal law. Remember Net Neutrality? Net Neutrality forced ISPs to act like phone companies, treating all traffic the same with almost no ability to limit or filter the content traveling on their networks. But Net Neutrality was repealed in 2018, essentially reclassifying internet service as a luxury with little regulator oversight, and upending consumers’ right to free access of the web.

“We really need lawmakers to wake up and understand that tech policy issues aren’t wonky concerns,” Greer said. “These are bread and butter mom and pop issues, and they have just as much of an impact on people’s reproductive rights as legislation moving for or against abortion access in general.”

Democrats have been working to restore Net Neutrality ever since, and they probably would have done so already if Republican lawmakers hadn’t been working to stop the essential functions of government. President Biden nominated lawyer Gigi Sohn to fill an empty chair at the FCC in 2021, but Republicans have blocked her nomination ever since.

They tried that with porn. It didn't work because there's no possible way to implement such a filter perfectly.

wonko the sane?

You may test that assumption at your convinience.

To be fair to them: it's absolutely possible. If they axed the military budget, they could do it.

They won't, it's another lie: but in concept entirely possible.

Even aside from everything else, I think it speaks volumes about how horribly our system has failed that someone who didn't even finish high school is now a member of Congress.

She did get a GED, so there is that. Problem is she wants to gut education which could prevent OTHERS from getting their GEDs. I'm fine with a congressperson not graduation from HS in a traditional way, as long as they have proven their intelligence in other ways.... She unfortunately has failed that test, repeatedly. Thankfully she won by only around 500 votes and the more she talks the lower that vote count will likely get, especially given the way CO is leaning now.

I think it's fair to expect our highest level of government to be staffed exclusively by people with at least a BS in Political Science, ideally a Master's.

Given how much access to higher education costs in the US, no you don't. This would just exacerbate existing problems of separation from reality as even fewer average citizens are able to enter the political process. It literally means that ONLY rich people can even consider running for federal government.

I agree with you in principal. This isn't the 1800's, we need educated and critical thinking individuals in political position: but given how US society is currently handling education and money as a whole, to implement this concept is just asking the rich to continue abusing and exploiting you.

Miles said that she got out of the car and began to walk north up U.S. 501 toward her cousin’s house in Winfall. “He was screaming at me” to get into the car, she said. “I said a firm ‘no’ and kept walking,” she said in the affidavit.

Next, Fariss cut a 90-degree turn to the left toward where Miles was walking, and then hit her with his SUV and got out of the vehicle, yelling that “I should have gotten into the g——-d car,” Miles said in the affidavit. She said she was knocked to the ground, and her “sunglasses flew about 8 feet off my head.”

“Luckily a man across the street saw all of this and yelled,” Miles said. “Once Matt saw that there was a witness he got in his car and fled the scene.”

Republicans on both sides here, but the fact that it didn't go nearly far enough can probably be blamed on that. The fact that even this overly specific version didn't even pass is just messed up.

For each unhinged and comically ridiculous whackjob like MTG or Lauren Bimbobert, there are at least a dozen less-famous Republicans who act normal but who agree with the whackjobs about basically everything, and will vote accordingly. All of them deserve to be vilified just as much as the whackjobs are.

Remember when so-called "moderates" thought it was over-the-top to accuse Republicans of colluding with foreign powers for political gain?

Now it's finally come to light that Republicans made a secret back-room deal with the Iranians in 1980 to NOT release the hostages until after the election. This is just how ruthless they are. For all their talk of flag and country, they don't give a shit about either. They would happily collude with an enemy of the state if they thought it would give them a percentage point in the polls.

Imagine if, on the day Al Capone was indicted for tax fraud, fully one half of Congress vowed to help him.

That revelation, even late as it is, confirms what many have thought for years. Reagan really is one of the absolute worst presidents we have ever had. And the GOP owes Jimmy a ******* apology. Little goddamn late, but still due.

“So you are including people, if I understand this correctly, that are changing because that’s their choice. I mean they can do that, but now you’re including people that were not born as girls, they’re something else. So now they’re being included, so the perception that I have is now I’m potentially gonna be excluded. Because now I’m coming up there with that we are all equal, but apparently some people are more equal than others. I just, I struggle with that.”

On Twitter, many couldn’t believe she said the quiet part out loud, pointing out that Harder is clearly worried about losing her own privilege and drawing comparisons to the quote she, herself, referenced from George Orwell’s allegorical novel Animal Farm: “All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others.”
