It will be a lot messier if it happens again. We are essentially talking about rural vs urban instead of slave-holding vs non slave-holding. The lines simply aren't so clearly drawn this time. I'm in a deep red area of a reliably blue state, for instance.

So there's currently a story about extreme right-wing Republican Madison Cawthorn (that's the same guy who thinks women are "earthern vessels") getting a divorce from his wife after less than a year of marriage.

Conspiracy theorists have rediscovered a video in which he tells the story of how he met was introduced to the woman that would become his wife, which involves a vacation in Sweden and Norway, a ferry trip to Russia that makes little sense geographically, a trip to a casino in Saint Petersburg where gambling is illegal, him meeting an American Army captain at said casino, said captain staying in touch with him and later inviting him to a Crossfit competition in Miami that turns out to be a sham and was only an excuse to introduce him to the woman who would become his fiancee.

A lot of people are pointing out that this sounds like a classic honey trap story, and his soon-to-be ex-wife might actually be a Russian spy, with him as the target. And he denies all of that.

Also Biden is no Abe Lincoln. I imagine he'd just let them secede peacefully and even try to ignore any acts of war they committed against us as long as possible. If anyone ever wondered "What if the south had seceded while Buchanan was still in office?" we might get to find out.

Everyone's worried about a second Civil War.
Thankfully, it's Tacticool vs the Military Industrial Complex.

And the secessionists this time around are all from areas that are wholly dependent on Federal Aid.

The big shots in Washington can talk "Divorce" all they want. The States they represent, and the Governors there-in, have vested interests to remain united. To say nothing of the fact the nigh $800 Billion a year elephant in the room also has a vested interest in keeping all 50+ under the same umbrella. Worst case scenario, nothing changes, the Defense Contractors just take direct control and drop the dog and pony show of "Democracy".

wonko the sane?

You may test that assumption at your convinience.

I think a dog and pony show would be a notable upgrade from the "reality tv" bullshit y'all got going now.

Despite my best efforts to keep my head buried in the sand, I'm slowly coming tot he conclusion that I might be too...

IF there's another civil war: there won't BE clear cut lines like the mason/dixon line. It'll be neighborhood against neighborhood, block against block... for the first year anyway. During which there probably won't be a whole lot of actual combat, but lots of attempted migration, and the consequences OF mass migration. High unemployment, lack of resources, hoarding and price gouging, and more than likely masses of tent cities especially in blue areas.

At the end of which I can easily see the hard borders (and what a twisted mess that will be.) popping up berlin style, and even the return of slavery as the economies in red regions crash and burn. During which those red regions will be increasingly more militant and tyrannical, all while screaming about how they are the only legitimate united states

There's not going to be a Civil War.
The economy won't stand for it.

You think they're going to keep revising down COVID isolation requirements to service Corporate Earnings but then turn around and allow the country to tear each other to pieces? Think of the profit losses.

One weird thing about coming to accept the fact we exist in a corporate dystopia is letting go of fears like a national bloodbath. These are organizations that ruthlessly throttle Unions in the cradle. You seriously believe they're going to let an armed uprising happen?

They already do that. They're just not organized enough to do it en mass, and the courts are still letting it go.

I don't know. Why don't you ask the near-majority of Congressmen who continue to passively if not actively support the one that already happened a year ago? Are they not getting lobbyists urging them to take it seriously and stop impeding the investigations? Or are the lobbyists just not offering enough?

Here's the thing - if a near-majority of Congress was willing to play ball with the Coup, then the Coup would have succeeded and Trump would still be smearing shit on the White House walls.

January 6th was a hair's breath of success away, but no one dared pick up the ball because they're limp dick prostitutes doing tricks for their paymasters. And their paymasters said knock it off.

Actually, the evidence that came out recently suggests that the trump riot scared the shit out of the traitors, and actually prevented the real coup.

They're more than happy to shout the words, but when it's their own heads on the line, they back down.

Now if only they had more visible consequences more often......

She still has her professional account at RepMTG which they haven't banned, so Twitter's action seem pretty weak TBH.

If she 's been smart enough not to tweet garbage on that account up to now, they don't have the same justification. We'll see what happens once she DOES start doing that(as I think it's safe to assume she will)
