UK politics thread – it just keeps on getting worse

The EU can't offer Scotland candidate nation status under its current rules because Scotland's still part of the UK. If that changes, well, it won't be an automatic process, but given Scotland was in the EU and its predecessors for over forty years, it shouldn't be a massive problem to rejoin.
I remember way back when Brexit was still being run up the flagpole, people were saying they likely wouldn't acknowledge Scotland's independence if they seceded because something something Spain.

That was mostly Brexiteers misrepresenting the issues with Catalonia. There wouldn’t be any major issue with Scotland being a candidate member state as long as it didn’t unilaterally secede and cause s big legal mess.

Chancellor Rishi Sunak and Secretary for Health Sajid Javid have just resigned, and some other ministers may be imminently resigning. Could this be the end for the prime ministerial career of Boris Johnson – the final end?

Sure. Just like [insert your choice of "final bullet" incident for Trump] will be the final bullet for Trump.

Way higher chance of Bojo getting removed than Trump ever was – remember, parliamentary system. I think he’ll be gone by late September. Not that it’ll fundamentally change anything in terms of how this country is run, other than presentationally.

wonko the sane?

You may test that assumption at your convinience.

For that to happen: you would need to actually be, you know, represented by your government. Most of the western world has been under minority rule for the last few years, and it's not working.

I feel like comparing Boris to Megatron is giving him too much credit.
He's clearly G1 Starscream.

That's because both are insurgent candidates who somehow miraculously got into a leadership position. Of course being weak leaders themselves they had to use compromised supporters. Boris had people like Pincher and Paterson and Starscream had the Combaticons.

The UK elects someone who's a tiny bit more competent and we move on back to our march to V for Vendetta.

Ironbite-duh.

TBH, there’s little chance we’ll get anyone who’s significantly different from Boris Johnson. Other than less haphazard and incompetent.

Unfortunately it's amazing what that can do for a party's polling. The conservative party here had a number of terrible leaders and polled poorly until they got in their current leader, who manages to have an air of respectability about him. Now they poll well, indications that the new leader wouldn't be any better for the country than the previous ones.
