Here is the video where David Sobolov finally explains the "I'll clear the way!" line from ROTB:

I've cued it to the exact time since it's in the latter half of the video.

Crossing over with Gi Joe at this point is just stupid, its not like Gi Joe had any serious movies and to regluar people they'll likely look like standard soldiers and take up the screen time that would be better served on the TFs themselves, give the Joes their own movie to establish them properly instead of trying to spring board off the back of TFs

Yeah, a Joe/TF crossover only works when either A) both are active/vibrant franchises, or 2. when it's a ground-up reboot.

Grafting a dormant property onto a successful one IMO is much harder.

Welp, Caple's out and no longer involved with the ROTB sequel that is to be the TF/G.I. Joe crossover movie:

...this does not bode well.

I'm not opposed to more live action movies in principle, but I'd prefer them to be a hard reboot not connected at all to the style or substance of the existing series. Maybe a few years of well performing animated films to clear the old movies far enough out of the public consciousness that the higher-ups feel a brand new take on live action is viable would help.

Look, if we are going to have humans in our TF movies, I personally would like to see GI Joes vs Cobra rather than random 20 year old that stumbles on to ancient Transformer technology.

How about if GI Joe and the Earth Corps team up to stop Cobra from unleashing Metlar at the volcano, triggering the eruption that wakes up the Ark?

Bonus points if Synergy is somehow created using Cybertronian technology.

And a select group of Joes is given vehicles integrated with reverse engineered Transforming technology as the Mobile Armored Strike Command.

Did anyone here actually read the article? If not, then y'all are seriously overlooking the enormous elephant in the room over why, exactly, Caple is no longer attached to the project.

Steven Caple Jr and Lorenzo Di Bonaventura got into arguments over the film- no idea if they were salary related or artistic differences- but they were not seeing eye to eye.
Di Bonaventura reportedly said Caple Jr should consider himself lucky to be involved in a big budget blockbuster that would potentially star an A-lister like Chris Hemsworth.

There were also rumours that Di Bonaventura used racial slurs and insults in his arguments with Caple Jr, but notably the CAA- the talent agency that represents both men- denied that anything racial has been said. Representatives from both camps said it just amounted to "heated negotiations that went south."

The validity of the claims that Di Bonaventura used racial slurs and attacks is paramount here (pun not intended but let's roll with it).
Because if he did go there then 🤬 Lorenzo Di Bonaventura, 🤬 Paramount, and everyone else involved in keeping him around.

but...

and this is important...

that needs to be confirmed. Right now representatives of both men have said it didn't happen, and just because I don't jive with Lorenzo Di Bonaventura's vision of the live action movie franchise doesn't mean I'm going to assume he's something as heinous as a racist based on a rumour that the representatives of the guy he supposedly attacked say didn't happen.

Now yes. CAA represents both men and may be trying to sweep it under the rug so this doesn't blow up further but still. I'm not ready to believe it unless Steven Caple Jr himself comes out to confirm it.

I'm wondering if the offending phase may have been the "be grateful to be working on this project" statement.

That could be intended and interpreted as "because it's a big project which will reflect well on all involved," but could also be interpreted as racially tinged.

"Racially tinged" is doing a lot of heavy lifting in that article for such a vague and weak accusation. If he did use slurs or something stronger, you'd think the article would have mentioned it. He might have just called Caple a diversity hire or something, which while still an awful thing to say to someone, is a far cry from dropping slurs.

Not saying nothing happened, but a single vague article is kind of the definition of "wait and see," IMO. Especially coming from a small website I've never heard of before.

Bit of a bummer, really, as Bonaventura sucks and I wouldn't mind seeing him never touch another Transformers thing again, but a random article casting indistinct asperions ain't enough to go on.

Regarding why they're bothering with GI Joe: its just the typical "collaborate/mash-up/crossover" thing every studio is still trying to find a way to make work after Marvel made gangbusters on the MCU. RotB didn't return them to their beloved Michael Bay numbers, so now the only thing they have left is to try a crossover so they can get people interested in either GI Joe or Transformers to show up. It might even work, who knows!
