Murder remains legal for white boys

wonko the sane?

You may test that assumption at your convinience.

But only if you're painfully white. The double standard is still in play: a black person trying to pull the same crap wouldn't live to the trial of the cop who put them down.

I don't know about Wisconsin, but believe it or not Florida's law actually does. Our self defense laws explicitly carve out an exception for provocation. There's only one self defense card to go around. Whoever feels threatened first gets to shoot first. Whoever threatens first has a duty to retreat or surrender.

But we have an exception within the exception. If the initial aggressor does retreat or surrender, the person who felt threatened first has an obligation to stop. If they don't, the self defense card changes hands.

How this didn't come up in the Zimmerman trial is a mystery.

Nobody would have died if Kyle Shittenhouse stayed home, and yet millions of Americans stroke their chins thoughtfully and conclude that his "I just went there to help, and then I had no choice but to defend myself from the RAGINGVIOLENTDEATHMOB" argument is completely solid.

The people who reach this conclusion do so not because of logic, but because they evaluate situations like this by imagining themselves being there, and guess whose shoes they ALWAYS choose to put themselves in.

At what point does America's love of guns get classified as a mental illness?

It doesn't, since the mentally ill seldom see themselves as the problem, and even healthy people (physically, mentally and otherwise.) cannot be trusted to diagnose themselves properly.

You either need a revolution, or to be conquered. And no one is going to conquer you: you're all armed to the teeth and off your meds.

There are two kinds of Americans:

1) Those who are angry and disturbed by the fact that the courts have essentially given carte blanche to violent armed vigilantes to pick a fight with someone and then kill him if he fights back.

2) Those who are angry and disturbed about imaginary fraudulent voting ballots in parking lots.

And there's zero crossover between those two groups.

As always, LegalEagle breaks down in plain English why the verdict ended up the way it did.

Basic points boils down to you aren't wrong if you think him Guilty (or Innocent), it's simply the fact in the narrow spectrum of the charges leveled against him the Prosecution failed to prove beyond a Reasonable Doubt.

That's why the proper thing to do is to charge them with everything that could possibly stick, all at once, and let the jury whittle it down to the ones that actually can.

Well, along with not doing all the other ways they effed this up.
