Mayhem Transformers Discussion: If HasTak can't be bothered to come up with new titles, neither can I

Mine doesn't fall apart. But the tank mode doesn't completely peg together. Whoever decided to shrink it down to a Deluxe should feel bad.

The "Specialist" version with the metallic paint, that came in the set with Astrotrain and Octane, was as good as that mold got. It would have been worth owning for $25.

(it was never $25)

I wish there were reasonably sized images of any of those Specialist sets.

We laugh at the Absence of a Loving God set, but it gave Galvatron one of the better decos that mold got. No random orange, and it has the best purple I've seen on any official Galvatron toy.

It’s actually closer to blue than purple, similar to the specialist sets but bare plastic vs the specialisat's complete paint coverage. It's a really pretty shade that I’d like be the basis for an MP Galvy, but you know Takara’s gonna make him hugging lavender again.

Damn, those specialist sets did look great but not like $200 for those particular molds. The autobot set at least had 2/3 good ones. The Decepticons got a decent mold, a mediocre mold and Universe Galvatron.

Takara must have the world's most messed up VHS copy of TFTM. There is no way they could get Galvatron's color so wrong if they're seeing what we see.

I've had three or four different copies of the movie and none of them had the same color saturation. Yet somehow Takara still doesn't match any of them.

Supposedly they couldn't do another Voyager tank with Animated Shockwave on shelves, so Galvatron became a Deluxe.

Even beyond the original design for the walking tank, there’s a lot of nonsense decisions going on with the thing, like the hook on his shoulder that is folded up and hidden in the main tank body even in the initial walking tank design, weirdass hands or painting his clear orange rolling wheels orange and that being the only use of orange paint at all on the toy.

Even shrinking it from Voyager to Deluxe doesn't explain why it falls apart so easily. They just screwed up the tolerances on top of all the other failures.

From what we know, it was probably a rush job to downsize it, combined with CAD software being not as advanced back then complicating matters. Possibly at Voyager price point, some of the shitty joints were intended to be pinned hinges or ratchets and were budgeted out at deluxe

That's the thing though. They probably didn't just resize all the planned joints and hope they still worked. Some of the joints were probably entirely reworked. The left shoulder may have never been a ball joint until they decided the toy would be a Deluxe. They should have been able to make a ball joint for a Deluxe, but somehow even that went wrong.
