Underated anime is one of those odd things that’s really hard to quantify. Saying Utena is underrated Is a tad odd. Forgotten in the modern slew of available content sure, but its reputation still lives. I’ve never watched all of it but I know of it and more, but I’m also of its generation. Most of our newer generation don’t know as many of the older gems out there let alone some of the non shonen juggernauts. These days old guard like Tenchi Muyo, Slayers, Oh/Ah my Goddess and more are relatively not within most the newer generations view. Sure Tenchi has gotten more content even recently but who’s actually aware that we are 4 episodes into the latest spinoff?

And that’s just part of it really. Availability is definitely a factor. Granted I can’t really think of a real gem that isn’t at least streaming or available somehow legally.

But then again tastes are also subjective. Shows don’t always hit well with everyone. I may consider Record of Lodoss War to be an underrated fantasy gem, but others may just find it boring. Some people love Excel Saga, I find it to be lacking. It’s always a matter of perspective.

I just think this One Piece video is really interesting.

Are you ready for some BIRTHDAYS? Which COULD lead into some future plot spoilers?

Just to see if his predictions are correct:
September-Something big for Vivi for her first appearance. Or something with Crocodile for his birthday. Moria's birthday is also in September.

1096-Lafitte shows up and maybe we learn what his Devil Fruit is.

1097-We get Dragon giving us some Monkey family lore and Smoker returns in time for the anniversary of his first appearance. Smoker interacts with Sabo.

1100-We get some sort of backstory on Dragon and the Revolutionary Army or Ohara or both.

1103-Vivi shows up. Maybe where we find the name of the Ancient Kingdom.

1113-Crocodile/Cross Guild shows up.

1114-Something for Robin. Maybe reuniting with Saul. Or a interaction with Saint Saturn, where we might find out the name of the Ancient Kingdom.

1115-We get to Elbaf. Vegapunk explains his connection with Saul.

1123-Blackbeard.

1126-Crocodile/Cross Guild shows up.

1133-Blackbeard.

1223-Fight Blackbeard on Laugh Tale.

March 25-Blackbeard first appeared.
April 24-Blackbeard first mentioned.

So going off this theory, can we predict when some things will happen in the story? Of...whatever year these things actually happen.

Nami's birthday is July 3. And she first appeared in Chapter 8 in September 15 1997. Her flashback with Bell-Mere happened in Chapter 77 on February 22 1999. Could one of those dates be the start of some sort of backstory on Nami?

Could Blackbeard get something for HIS birthday around August 3? Maybe that third Devil Fruit he's been looking for?

Enel's Great Space Operation cover story started in Chapter 428 on September 25 2006. Could we see Enel come back around then?

Ace died in Chapter 574 on February 15 2010. Could that be around when Luffy saves Garp? Or maybe another big name death?

Luffy's Birthday is May 5. And the first chapter of One Piece released July 19. So could Luffy find the One Piece the week of his birthday on May 5? And then the end of the series could be around July 19? Although, the first version of the prototype for One Piece, Romance Dawn came out August 4. And the second version of Romance Dawn came out September 23.

So, yeah. There's a LOT of dates you COULD use in One Piece, just given how long the story has gone on. It's really hard to nail anything down, really. Especially since it's all up to Oda's whims.

And while we're at it, why not some more speculation and theories?

The true meaning of “I’m gonna be the King of the Pirates”!
Okay, so this is going to be a Japanese-language pun discussion from someone who knows ZERO actual Japanese, so take this with a grain of salt. But, this has just been on my mind recently.

So, the phrase Luffy says in Japanese is: “"Kaizoku Ou ni,ore wa naru!" Which reads, “I’m gonna be King of the Priates”

But, I’ve just started to wonder if there could be a alternate “reading” of this very iconic phrase. Oda loves puns and wordplay, so Luffy slightly “mispronouncing” something COULD be a pretty decent gag.

I just wonder if a alternate meaning/pun could be: “Kaizoku Oni, ore wa naru!” Which would mean: “I’m a pirate demon!” Oni being a word for demon or monster in Japanese, and, as far as I know, “Oni” is a false homonym with “Ou ni”. Which would tie into my theory that Joyboy or Nika might have been of the same race as Oars. Amongst other things.

It would be so totally like Oda to leave a bit of foreshadowing out in the open like this, that we just can’t recognize until AFTER it gets revealed.

Why it's always sunny around Marejois!
Okay, this is so obvious that I either didn't think about it...or I forgot someone else mentioning it. But the reason why it's always sunny around Marejois is because....The Sun God Nika Fruit changed the environment around the island permanently....probably during a fight. Maybe back when Joyboy was on Marejois, maybe even defending Imu.

Like how Akainu and Aokiji's fight permanently changed Punk Hazard's environment to the half fire and half ice island we saw.

So, yeah, that's so obvious that I just blanked it out of my mind.

The connection between Luffy and the Gorosei?
Again, just a quick thing that popped into my head. Luffy has 5 Gears…and there are 5 Gorosei. So, I wonder if Oda actually foreshadowed the Gorosei’s Devil Fruits with Luffy’s Gears, somehow. Like each Gear more or less corresponds to a form one of the Gorosei takes.

Gear 1/Luffy’s Original Stretchy form, Gear 2/Heat/Steam, Gear 3/Inflation/Gigantification, Gear 4a/Tankman/Defense/Wall, Gear 4b/Snakeman/Speed, Gear 4c/Bounceman/Balanced/Gorilla, and Gear 5/Nika/Toonworld.

So, I don’t know, just something to think about. It’s probably not worth anything, and even I don’t think it lines up with what we know so far, but it might be something to keep in mind.

Is Luffy EVER going to find out about Nika?
Again, this has just been on my mind recently, and it’s gotten me thinking. Is it possible that Luffy will just…NEVER find out about his Gum-Gum Fruit actually being the Nika Fruit? Because…I’m not sure who would actually ever TELL him? The only people who know about that seem to be the Gorosei. And MAYBE Shanks. And I could just see a scenario where Luffy just NEVER learns the truth about his fruit.

And I think I’m okay with that.

Because, I can just see the end of the manga. Where Robin’s reading off the history of the world to the other Strawhats..and Luffy’s just enthralled by the story about Nika, who he learns is probably either already reincarnated or soon to be. “Wow…this NIka guy sounds AMAZING…We’re gonna find him so he can join our crew!” And that’s (partially) how the story ends. Luffy taking the Strawhats on another around the world journey to find Nika…with no one on the crew even really thinking about Luffy actually being Nika, in the first place. Now that’s…a laugh tale, indeed.

Luffy, find out about the past, no chance, the moment you start talking about it in front of him, you'll hear ZZZZZZZZZZ and a bubble coming from Luffy's mouth!

Personally, I think it COULD be the ONE story that could rouse him from his backstory-coma. And it could pay that off as a LONG running brick joke. But, yeah, probably not. It's just something that popped into my head.

Who knows, Oda is quite the masterful storyteller at times, having created such a large expansive world.

I would NOT put it past Oda for Gin to suddenly show up out of nowhere somewhere close to the end of the story. How? Who knows?! Part of Enel's crew? As a "ghost" Brook summons as part of a giant army? Someone Bartolomeo picks up as part of the Straw Hat Grand Fleet? Working with Magellan so his poison is cured? Mind controlled by Imu? Sky(peia)'s the limit! Oda's hard to predict, no matter how hard I try.

Same for the former captain of the Black cat Pirates, the first one, Kuro, the guy who faked his own death and tried to murder Ussop's friend/possible lover

If Gin survives that massive poisoning, it completely undercuts his boss's finishing move.

But hey, anything that makes Don Kreig look like even more of a joke is ok by me. So let Gin live.

Just finished watching My Unique Skill Makes Me OP even at Level 1, honestly, its a fun series, while nothing seriously new, its just a fun series with a bit of a wholesome feel to it as the MC is pretty much living his best life in this new world where you get stuff via drops and he was a drop item himself, I recomend it if you just want a switch off your brain and have a good time series, nothing to deep!

Just finished watching the conclusion to Sacrificial Princess and the King of Beasts, honestly, its a good show, a strong romance with a steady build up, a intersting world depecting different kinds of beasts and good character devlopment, with a few action scenes here and there but its the focus on the two main leads that really helps drive the story, the ending of the series is very good, very touching!

Just finished up season 2 of Spy Classroom. Really great show and it's a shame it doesn't seem to be getting the attention of most folk. As it is we have no idea if a 3rd season will materialize.

I hope it does, it's quite the fun ride.

Binged a few shows:

Kaguya-Sama: Love is War. So that's where those memes come from! Mostly cute, though it did get annoying how stubborn they both were. Yes, I know that's the entire premise, but. Also needed more guys. Lots of side girls that weren't really needed. Not a surprise considering it originated in Jump, but. The last seasons/OVAs were meh. Maybe they tried to squish too much of the manga in too few eps?

Undead Murder Farce: Supernatural murder mystery solving. General premise is fun, but they are throwing lots of fictional/non-fictional char at this show. Not just vamps and werewolves, but Sherlock, Crowley, Jack the Ripper, etc. Also the fanservice feels icky/pointless. Would still watch it if it gets a 2nd season.

Link Click: 2nd season is done. At least there wasn't a huge cliffhanger and things were wrapped up. They did leave some threads open for a possible season 3, so we'll see. Less depressing backstories, please.

Happy to see Sei back with the start of season 2 of “ The Saint’s Magic Power is Omnipotent”. From the cold open it looks like some shit is going to hit the fan, but then we go back to the slice of life romance it’s mainly about😅.

So far most of the shows I’m interested in seem to be hitting later in the week. But seeing Sei come back was a nice surprise yesterday.
