Been sorting mlp vids in my personal archive stored on the computer, putting them into categories. Took a break over the holidays, but back into it now. Over 800 vids processed so far, with roughly 1/3rd of those MiA on YouTube.

So... many... lost... vids. And I have many, many more to sort through. 😵

Makes me glad I have those preserved.

wonko the sane?

You may test that assumption at your convinience.

I'm glad someone took the initiative, I got maybe 150-200, but I don't think too many of them have been taken down.

It's amazing that this phenomenon, which started off as this notably whimsical and unlikely thing, was so meticulously documented and preserved. Right now we could be thinking "I never thought we'd care ten years later. We should start piecing together what we can before any more of this is lost." but no, it was preserved in real time.

So far. There's going to be a show at some point, and I'm sure there will be comics once Hasbro decides where to go after they (allegedly) dump IDW.

For now, all we have is this movie to tide us over. At least it's good.

Well Generations issue 3 is out. At least there's some stuff from the G1 side, but it didn't really wow me. It certainly didn't justify waiting so long to bring in the G1 ponies.

Is that Minty? Minty is my favorite G3 character, so I want to be kind about this. And she technically was a G1 pony...but...this is absolutely her G3 look, not her G1 look.

I like G1 Applejack. I have the toy. But considering she was only in the first special, this single-frame appearance just feels like a cheap "generation versions meet their other selves" gag just because. Transparent cheap laugh and I didn't even laugh.

Again, I absolutely love Firefly. It's nice to see her. But seeing her in this flashback when she also never made it past the first special just seems out of place.

Overall, it feels like the extent of the writers knowledge of G1 is the movie and a couple toys of characters they didn't even realize never made it past the first special.

AND THEY DIDN'T EVEN HAVE FIZZY!!!!

Dear Hasbro: you've obviously seen the writing on the wall with IDW. Please take the license somewhere else.

Apparently, IDW's keeping My Little Pony and Dungeons and Dragons.

I actually like what little we got from the G1 ponies. Although...it's weird that the G1 and Tales cast is apparently combined for this. Bon Bon from Tales is right there. And I kind of love that they reference "Up Up and Away" with her loving aliens. Although, it should have been Patch (because she was "patching" up Pinkie in the same scene). Still, now I want a one-shot about how the ponies reacted when the high-fantasy G1 cast and the mid-80s Tales cast met each other. With the 80s references, it actually feels like the writer knows more about Tales than "classic" G1.

But, I don't know. Suprise shouted SURPRISE! Lickity Split is eating. This is about all I expected from the crossover. I just kind of wanted MORE of it. I'm actually surprised that we got as many character details as we got, since we're splitting time between the G4 cast, the G1 cast, the S'monies, the Witches, and the Mayor as different sub-plots. It's tryiing to do too much.

And...did we really need to summarize the 80s movie, again? It feels like we've covered that ground before. Although, at least this time around, we got to see some G1 cameos, I guess.

But, yeah, that is just G3 Minty. It's hard not to see that. Wonder if we'll see...someone from true-G2 in the last issue? I have no idea who. It only had a video game and a toyline, and I don't know ANY of those characters, myself.

Well, the last issue of Generations is out. Only two weeks after the last one, which is strange. Makes me wonder if they rushed to get this out because IDW thought they'd lose the MLP license, too.

Feels pretty bittersweet, since this might be the last bit of G4 media we get for quite some time.

This is...a very IDW MLP finale.

The ending makes me feel like a missed a page right before the last page, it's so abrupt. The S'monies just...stop fading away because FRIENDSHIP.

I'm pretty sure they messed up Pinkie and Violet's "Best Friend" shirts. I'm thinking one of them was supposed to have one say "Be Fri" or something.

And the final boss being...evil party streamers is a little weak.

And the G1 ponies don't get a lot to do in this one. I guess...issue #4 was the highlight for using the G1 ponies. That's a shame.

But, Dark Minty will stay with me for a while. And it is pretty sweet that EVERYONE gets redeemed...though I'm not sure how the S'monies who are literally made of Smooze can just have it removed from them with no ill effects. And there are some cute lines here and there ("I, too, know what it's like to be hoofed.")

This...wasn't good. But, it could have been worse. Maybe.

I'm going to miss G4. I already miss G4, really. G5 proper can't start soon enough. I've already said my piece on the IDW comics a few pages back, but there were some good times to be had.

And...I guess we can count on more comics of some sort, in the future. I don't know how to feel about that, right now.

Ugh! 5 issue cross-overand G1 only gets a very minor part in the last two issues? It can barely even be called lip service!

And as much as I absolutely love Minty and enjoy any chance to see her, she's a G3 pony not G1. Yes G1 does have its own version of Minty, but that was absolutely the G3 design. So they didn't even get that right.

And the whole thing just felt so rushed and disjointed. I just didn't enjoy this at all. As cross-overs go, this was extremely disappointing.

I can't even remember where I had to stop with the comics due to just not being able to get to a comic store to buy them anymore. It was long before season 10 happened in them, and from the sound of everything, I'm not sure if there is anything that's all that great to go looking at.

I DO know I looked up the mini series of the CMC solving mysteries, since I loved the book series. Only to be extremely disappointed that Lilymoon and Ambermoon don't even get a single cameo.

A G1 crossover had so much potential but the g1 part ended up being shorter than Pipp.

Let this be the end of IDW's Pony comics. They were very good very briefly.

Yeah, the IDW version of Ponyville Mysteries was...strange. It's like they didn't even get a summary of what the books were about, and just assumed it was a junior detective story. A tie-in that...didn't even properly tie-in to the books they were promoting. That kind of sums up IDW MLP in a nutshell. They couldn't even win for losing.

I'll admit, there are a handful of issues that are various shades of good, nice, or heartwarming, but none that are truly "great" or "must read". Especially, from the post-Katie Cook later era of the comic. Anything with Andy Price's art is probably worth it, if only for the art.

I might recommend the 5 issue Nightmare Knights series, which has Luna forming a Ocean's Eleven-style team of anti-heroes to raid a interdimensional casino. Is it AMAZING? ...Well, it's okay. Is it as good as the manga? ...No. But, it's short, and you can probably just read one trade to get a idea if you even want to try to find more, since I do feel like this is a highlight.

And, I'll say this about the crossover: I liked the witches. They were cute characters. BUT....maybe they shouldn't have taken up half the page-space of this comic? Or maybe the "crossover" aspect should have been a fun surprise instead of a selling point? As a crossover...this did not meet expectations. I feel that's putting it lightly.

Also, random news: G5 is getting a console video game!

While I was among those who fell off on reading them, I feel the IDW comics seemed to have very specific moments when it was good or bad. There were a couple of really specific styles and tones between the different writer/artist teams to the point that the way you enjoy pony might be served up wholly based on what arc you read. And then there's the whole issue of them not having access to the show bible so there were weird shots in the dark and missteps even from those who were trying the hardest to be on the up and up.

Yeah. They didn't have the series bible, and seemingly didn't make their own. It seemed like writers and artists buddied up and worked within their own universes, with no wider collaboration between anyone who wasn't currently working together. The teams weren't hostile to each other the way IDW Transformers was often hostile to itself before the reboot, but they were insular. They worked in tiny groups with shared visions, and never had someone with a different vision check their work and say "I'm not sure this ending works."

An LO! There came more comics! G5 is getting it's first IDW comics issue on May 5

MLP-G5-01-coverB.jpg

This cover's pretty cute. Too bad it doesn't seem to have anything to do with the plot of the comic, itself.

Interesting that they're going to Canterlot, since I thought the Pegasus city WAS Canterlot. Unless this is just IDW rendering itself non-canon even faster than normal (I kid, I kid)

But, seriously, we're getting news of the COMICS before the SHOW? C'mon Netflix, give us a trailer already!
