I have no pets myself because...you know...responsibility. But I do love pictures.

Gibbs, Dumpling, Abby, Kekoa Mac and Starbucks. They all left little holes in my heart.

Latte Kealiʻi, Kolohe Duke and Whiskey Bear. We just adopted Latte Kealiʻi and he has made himself at home and loves his dog brothers. Kolohe Duke is the protector of all and he’s been sad after the passing of his older brothers and sister. Whiskey Bear is the bratty one of the group.

Here is one of our bearded dragons from shortly after we got him till now. I’ll have to find the pics of him “driving” a car and wearing his cowboy hat at some point.

Here are our chinchillas, Chip and Dale. Chip is the lighter colored one. I love these guys. Very fun pets. They can jump REALLY high. The downside is they poop a LOT, so you have to clean the cage daily. I think it’s worth it.

You may test that assumption at your convinience.

So yesterday we added a new addition to the family. A little orange and white male kitty. Our current kitty (charlie, female, 12 going on 13.) is NOT taking it well. She's had a thousand yard stare since the new cat came in. I know there will be a transitionary period, and it'll probably work out well since charlie is USED to living in a house with other cats... but... Still concerned for her at the moment.

Anyway, the new kitty is named "whiskey tango foxtrot", keeping with the naming convention of his now older sister "Charlene Foxtrot".

No good pictures yet, and even the bad ones aren't on my computer.

Ladies, gents and various others: Whiskey!

He had his first trip to the family vet today, the follow up of the treatments given by the SPCA. He's recently started acquiring scarring on his face, and the vets think it might be ringworm, given how he's also scratching fairly frantically at times and bathing himself very, very frequently.

But he's been here the better part of two weeks: and neither the other cat NOR any of us are showing signs, and he's been all over everything. We think it's probably a combination of ear mites and stress. Regardless, the results come back on tuesday (damnit... first time I've ever cursed thanksgiving.) and the various scars do not look like ringworm markings... and there's too many of them. And they're scabbing... So yeah. He's already living up to his name.

I'm more of a pet uncle or something. These are neighborhood strays that used to hang out at a neighbor's house, until their next door neighbor got a loud dog last winter. Now they live under my deck. From front to back, they are Gracie (neighbor told me she used to be a housecat but ran away and won't live inside anymore), and the ones I call Snark 8 and Snark 7. Snark, or SNRC - Serially Numbered Random Cats. Snark 8 has only one eye, while Snark 7 gets in a lot of fights. Gracie used to be Snark 2. In addition to food and water, I occasionally give them antibiotics dissolved in the water (after consultation with a biologist friend who deals with stray and wild animals a lot).

They have chosen you. Now you must run a critter sanctuary until the end of your days.

You get used to it.
