    Going quiet for a while

Easter update: surgery went well, I am now technically a cyborg. The stitches appear to still be holding (there's no blood seepage, but I still get twinges of pain when my arm is anywhere but straight up). My arm is still in a cast and I am on strong painkillers and self-imposed lockdown for...

    Going quiet for a while

Update: I've been spending most of my time with my hand elevated on a stack of pillows; swelling and bruising are slowly going down, and I am slowly adapting (I am now able to pull up zippers and hold things in my hand, even if I can't manipulate them). I'm convinced that at least part of the...

    Going quiet for a while

I have been on a (terrible) adventure. On Wednesday afternoon, I tripped on a curb while coming back from lunch and landed badly. I had sustained cuts to my face and left hand, and a visible dislocation of my right arm (I could still move and feel my fingers, but bones were visibly out of...

    My Adventures With Superman

That's certainly the impression I got. One of the rules of drama is the "One Steve Limit," so if there's an "Alex" associated with Superman, it kinda has to be him. Maybe the one twist is that Alex is actually Luthor Junior, and his daddy (who may have gotten him the job with Ivo) will later...

Forty Years of Transformers Hot Takes

There's also my take that the Thirteen were just Quintesson-made prototypes (subject to the "glitch" that made them self-aware) rather than anything divine. (As is Unicron himself; a "Gone Horribly Right" prototype of an AI-guided planet-destroying superweapon.) As much as Super-Robot DNA is...

I liked Rung more when he was a goofy psychiatrist.

Star Trek General Discussion: Strange New Worlds new season is filming!

Yeah, the Xindi had no idea of the Sphere Builders' true plans. As far as they knew this was a straightforward "kill them before they kill us" scenario. The stupid part was giving away the element of surprise; if not for the Xindiball, Earth would've been caught completely unprepared.

Star Trek General Discussion: Strange New Worlds new season is filming!

Yeah, the Xindiball was a prototype. It was colossally stupid to field-test the prototype in an unprovoked attack when the main weapon wasn't complete yet, but I think we've all seen enough military operations in the past few years to not find it at all unrealistic.

Breaking the theme, but these two came in on Monday, so I grabbed some pics in the one part of my apartment that has decent light. (The robot-mode pics are out-of-package, so some things aren't pegged in right.) I wasn't expecting to like Bumblebee, but his robot mode is beautiful. He doesn't...

(This trope is part of why I maintain that stasis lock was the greatest and most underappreciated contribution BW made to the canon, because it means you can have the heroes defeating the Named villains and still have those Named villains around to sell toys next week.)

... Fair. In fact I have that NEST jeep sitting on my shelf. I use him as Tripwire.

    Transformers Legacy toyline

Reused almost universally as the same character in mostly the same deco (The only real exceptions being Skywarp and Hot-Rod-impersonating-an-officer). We'll probably never see any of Twitch's (*checks*) five molds reused (unless Twitch herself gets thrown into the next line as a fill-in...

    Transformers Legacy toyline

Have we been following the same EarthSpark toyline? Hasbro's been on the single-use mold train for years.

That is usually what a flatline means, yes.
